Leaf-fall Day 5 (Backdated)LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun As soon as the RainClan cats departed, Lionstar counted to twenty—and rounded on Lichenfrost. "If you ever embarrass this Clan like that again, Lichenfrost, there will be serious consequences. I don't care what's gotten under your fur lately, don't take out your nasty attitude on your Clanmates or our neighbors." The tom's large paws pressed tightly to the earth, a ripple of restraint clawing its way up through the muscles in his legs - as if he wanted to cuff her around the ears like a naughty kit. "And for the record," golden eyes pierced Lichenfrost's, holding her stare sharply. "Conflict runs both ways. You've been mistreated, I know. And I apologize for not treating you the way you deserved. However, that doesn't give you permission to act like a rabid fox to everyone in your vicinity."
Over fifty moons of her sour attitude and strained relationships were coming to a head. Lionstar knew Frost's interest in these three likely had something to do with it - but his patience had expired long ago, gone up in a burst of smoke and fire like the wildflower clearing. He looked most like his namesake when agitated, his pelt bristled, his features seeming to look more leonine and fierce than the Clan leader's usual calm, regal state. Take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem

Lichenfrost 58 Moons, TreeClan, (S) WarriorI've got a heart full of pain A head full of stress Ever since they left the Rainclan cats behind, Lichenfrost could almost taste Lionstar's anger - radiating off the tom like tsunami waves. She told herself she didn't care, she didn't care what he thought or felt towards her. Yet, deep down, there was a whisper pleading her to make things right, the whisper that belonged to the part of her that cared for her clan as deeply as a mother loved her kits. Sadly, that whisper had been ignored for way too long and once again went by unheard.
The anticipating kept her unflinching, even as the leader turned on her - his fur fuzzed up like it was charged by the static from the storm of his anger. Lichenfrost's fur bushed up in retaliation and she stood her ground, glaring back at the lion-like warrior with equal anger; although hers burned cold and quiet, unlike the thunder rumbling in his throat.
"Embarrassment? Neighbours?!" A hiss erupted from her throat, so strong it caused her pain from its force. The rest of the tom's words were lost on her mind. Maybe if she had been a calmer cat, she would've heard Lionstar's apology. Maybe things would've been better. Unfortunately, as Lichenfrost was, the blood was boiling in her ears too loud for her to hear the tom. "The only embarrassment I see is you. You act like you're so high and mighty but the only reason you're no longer ignoring me is because you were proven wrong. A true 'leader' would've seen past blood, they would've seen who I am."
The silver she-cat snarled but kept her back straight, keeping her gaze level to the tom's. "You're no leader, you aren't even fit to be foxdung! You have no faith or hope in cats. Starclan be damned, you believed your own father was a faithless tail-chaser the second a stranger said so."
A handful of anger inside my chest ❆ your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! Fawn

LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun "How dare you preach to me about hope and faith!" Lionstar snarled back, "Did I not give you a chance with Almondpaw? I believed you to be a good warrior, even with all your snark." Memories of the past raged across Lionstar's mind like a solar flare, causing his claws to slip from their sheathes. "Sorry for not trying harder to understand you. Clearly my priorities have been in the wrong place this entire time." The words were sharp enough to peel the bark off a tree, and he had to forcefully remind himself that she was still a Clanmate.
And maybe he had brought this on himself. He'd made a show of investing a great deal of effort and patience into apprentices. Maybe she'd been expecting him to reach out, get to know her better? Had he been too blind to miss the signs? Or had he noticed them and ignored them on purpose? Lionstar's tail lashed. At this point in time, when the storm-clouds had gathered and the lightning was already striking between them, he didn't care.
He could picture his mother's face, see the pain etched there when Badgerstripe's infidelity had first come to light. Sandfur had staggered back as if physically struck. Lionstep's heart had ached for her, and it pulsed with resentment for the tom he'd thought he'd known - and that resentment had spilled over onto the three half-siblings he'd never wanted. Especially the she-cat with fur as bright as starlight.
"It was more than just a word from a stranger. You're the one who looks just like Badgerstripe. If you want to be angry at someone, be angry at your mother for birthing you in TreeClan and then taking off before her nest had even cooled." Take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem

Lichenfrost 58 Moons, TreeClan, (S) WarriorI've got a heart full of pain A head full of stress "Did I not give you a chance with Almondpaw?"
"Oh congrats for such a large step, giving me an apprentice. Considering I'm over 40 moons old and most other warriors get there's within their damn twenties." She snarled. Really, really? This tom honestly thought that treating her like a normal warrior would suddenly make up for all the things he did - that's just normal courtesy, starclan damn it.
"Sorry for not trying harder to understand you. Clearly my priorities have been in the wrong place this entire time."
Lichenfrost turned her head away with a sharp hiss, trying to hide the sudden flash of hurt and sorrow that swelled within her head like an infection. No, she will not be weak now. Forcefully, she pulled her anger back to the surface, only turning her glare back when she was sure no other emotion was showing.
The next words that Lionstar growled left a deep confusion in Lichenfrost. Yeah, she looked like Badgerstripe. She also looked like Frost, and he knows what Frost looks like. Wait a second, d-did he not know?!
"First of all, I also look like Frost you dumb oaf." She said, praying to the stars that this tom wasn't dumb enough to miss that hint. Had Sprucefur and Appleshade they not told Lionstar the truth? Whatever, not her concern if this stupid ball of fluff could hardly look past his own nose. "And secondly, you couldn't scratch the surface of how much loathing I hold for that she-cat. If I ever meet her without my siblings, I'll slice her throat open and leave her for the crows."

LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun Exasperation took over Lionstar's features. "I gave you an apprentice after you were forty moons because you weren't suitable to be a mentor before now!" She'd been belligerent and immature, as well as disrespectful. No leader in their right mind, personal grievances aside, would have given a cat like Lichenfrost an apprentice before she was ready for one. "Enough of this, I don't owe you any explanations, and you've made it crystal clear that my opinion holds no weight for you."
What did Frost have to do with anything? That question was almost overshadowed by Lichenfrost's malice. Lionstar saw the usual rage and distrust he always saw whenever he looked at her, but this time, he noticed the shadows of pain lurking under the she-cat's words. Sympathy was, Lionstar was sorry to admit, in short supply when his temper was provoked to this level.
Lionstar's posture stiffened. "Are you telling me Frost is your father?" The tom's tail lashed with displeasure, a whirling hurricane of thoughts and emotions drowning out everything else. Frost was a Tribe cat. Why would a Tribe cat leave their kits in TreeClan? Why would Camelliablossom have lied in the first place? Whatever revelation Lichenfrost was trying to make him see, Lionstar was having trouble wading through the murk without any pieces to fit together.
A headache was beginning to pound against the edges of his skull. If they argued any more, the claws would come out - and no matter how much he wanted to give Lichenfrost a thorough scruffing up, he held too much pride for his place as a leader, for his role in the Clan's life, to sully moons and moons of leadership by acting like a reckless apprentice.
Take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem

Lichenfrost 58 Moons, TreeClan, (S) WarriorI've got a heart full of pain A head full of stress Lichenfrost held back a harsh hiss at his apprentice excuse. She wasn't suitable because they didn't like each other, end of. Her grey-speckled shoulders hunched upwards and her tail lashed back and forth as she tried to stifle the growl in her throat.
"Are you telling me Frost is your father?"
A look of pure, dumb surprise fell across Lichenfrost's features, masking the warrior's rage. "You really didn't know?" Once again, her frustration built up like a geyser and her voice became scolding and filled with disbelief, like a mentor telling off an apprentice for doing something stupid.
"Why on earth do you think a stranger that looks just like me would waltz into Treeclan and ask for three specific warriors that he knew by their kit names?!" She yowled, more surprised at Lionstar's ignorance than angry. You know what? Damn this tom and damn Frost, time to let the cat out of the bag.
"You know what else? Frost was once Treeclan. Oh! And Frost and Badgerstripe are brothers which is why they both look so similar, and why I look like both of them." Lichenfrost's fur bushed out, making her resemble a rage-filled storm cloud. Really? This was the kind of leader Treeclan was stuck with? She'd be amazed if he could plus one and one together and come up with two. "Are you really that dumb that you couldn't figure that out?!"

LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun Through Lichenfrost's usual vitriol, Lionstar was able to pick out the crucial bits of information. Frost and Badgerstripe were brothers. He knew the pale elder had been invited to the Clan by Gorsetail due to the weather, however, his own interactions with Frost had been limited. It mainly consisted of a brief explanation of the Tribe, Lionstar sending his well-wishes to the Tribe of Forgotten Waters when Frost had taken his leave.
Clearly, Frost had not been open about his intentions with TreeClan. With three of TreeClan's warriors, in particular. Lionstar's eyes narrowed. "There is no one alive to confirm Frost's story." And she had the nerve to screech at him about believing a stranger at their word. At least Camelliablossom was proven to have been a Clan-cat, and to have known Badgerstripe while he was alive.
This Frost...
It rankled him to know that the old silver fox was communicating with TreeClan cats, possibly spreading lies. Wouldn't it have been much simpler to speak to him first? Lionstar was not an unreasonable tom (mostly), who would be unwilling to help Frost reconnect with Lichenfrost, Appleshade and Sprucefur - so long as he was telling the truth.
Despite his deeply rooted suspicions, Lionstar dared himself to feel relief over the possibility that the cats he had previously believed to be his half-siblings, were really cousins. That his father had not been unfaithful, and that his mother's pain all those years ago... hadn't really been necessary. Unease gathered in Lionstar's eyes. Sandfur was in StarClan now, along with Badgerstripe, her first mate, and Bluestorm, her second.
If Badgerstripe was innocent, had Sandfur taken a second mate for no reason? Had his mother become the one who was unfaithful?
This was treacherous ground to walk upon, and Lionstar's attention returned to the hissing, furious she-cat in front of him. "Tell Frost to prove it," Lionstar ordered, expression dark. "Prove he was ever part of TreeClan, if he expects his word to count for anything." Lichenfrost must know where the old tom had gone. "Otherwise this conversation is over." He had grown sick of her insults, and sick of the sensation of his blood boiling beneath his skin.
The shock of Lichenfrost's words had been enough to cool his anger somewhat. Brought back to reason, Lionstar intended to put an end to this before it got further out of hand. Take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem

Lichenfrost 58 Moons, TreeClan, (S) WarriorI've got a heart full of pain A head full of stress Ever One of Lichenfrost's ears went crooked in confusion. What? He wants proof? She let out a sharp hiss. There was barely any proof that Badgerstripe was their father - the main piece of evidence was her damned coat colour.
"Tell Frost to prove it, prove he was ever part of TreeClan, if he expects his word to count for anything. Otherwise this conversation is over."
Lichenfrost's pelt bristled - no way! She didn't want to willingly seek out that old cat, he'd caused enough disturbance for a moon. The silver she-cat wondered how on earth Lionstar wasn't aware of his own uncle, seriously, this cat was denser than the ground her claws were digging into.
"No way! Send one of your precious warriors. I'm sure they'd roll over for such a perceptive leader." Her eyes narrowed and she growled. "And why are you suddenly so damn interested in our personal stuff? It's none of your business, or are you just trying get rid of me?"
Lichenfrost rolled her eyes, meaning the last question as a sarcastic joke. Yet still, a small part of her kept its gaze on Lionstar, eager and fearful of his response.

LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun Lionstar's frustration boiled over. "Do you ever get tired of being an obnoxious pain that no one wants to deal with? Does it ever get through that head of yours that you're impossible to be around?" She was just so... so... Stubborn and hostile. He growled. "Yes Lichenfrost, I'm trying to get rid of you. Maybe then TreeClan can have a moment's peace." If she kept showing her teeth to every cat she ever interacted with, she was going to find herself alone. StarClan had been kind, giving her littermates.
Otherwise Lionstar was certain she would walk this valley utterly alone, otherwise.
He scoffed. 'Our personal stuff'. If Frost was really his uncle, then that made this a family matter whether Lichenfrost approved or not. It seemed to the golden tom that they were going to be kin no matter which truth was the real truth (Frost's word, or Badgerstripe's infidelity), and they just had to accept it.
This matter had gotten under his skin, and he walked away first, determined to go breathe some clean air and listen to the sparkling brook. Anything to regain a sense of peace. This feeling like his claws were constantly coming unsheathed was bothering him, he had to constantly remind himself that they were not going to fight. That he wasn't going to strike a fellow Clanmate, or take his frustration out on a living creature.
He put several foxlengths between him and Lichenfrost, tail irritably flicking as he left. If I don't see another silver cat for the rest of my life, that would still be too soon. Take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem

Lichenfrost 58 Moons, TreeClan, (S) WarriorI've got a heart full of pain A head full of stress "Do you ever get tired of being an obnoxious pain that no one wants to deal with? Does it ever get through that head of yours that you're impossible to be around? Yes Lichenfrost, I'm trying to get rid of you. Maybe then TreeClan can have a moment's peace."
Lichenfrost froze, as if every part of her was made of stone. She stared at Lionblaze through narrowed eyes - remaining silent until the golden tom scoffed and walked away. As soon as Lionstar's pawsteps faded beneath the background hum of the forest, Lichenfrost broke.
She didn't wail or cry. No. She was not weak. Her fur lay flat and her tail stilled, and for the first time in a while... she looked like a small kit again - unsure and doubtful of everything, especially herself.
The truth stung but she didn't expect it to also crush her. The silver she-cat sat still until the sun had moved to the horizon. Her memories hummed with Lionstar's words and images of cats floated throughout her mind like angry bees; the tom himself, Feathercloud, Rushwhisker, haha near every single one of her clanmates.
For the first time in what seemed like forever, Lichenfrost reflected on Lionstar's words. Every hostile encounter, every barbed sentence, every unsheathed claw. Those memories clogged her mind until she felt like she was suffocating.
Maybe... Maybe Lionstar was right. Lichenfrost turned her green gaze upwards, staring at the skies. A single shooting star burned overhead, falling behind the mountains. ...Treeclan would be better off without her. Sprucefur and Appleshade too, and their future kits - they'd grow up loved in a clan that wasn't afraid of their venomous aunt.
Fogsight.... the she-cat that lingered in the back of her mind ever since Lichenfrost first learned her name, she'd be better off too. She could have a better friend than the silver she-cat had been, someone who wasn't her.
"Okay.” Lichenfrost finally answered Lionstar, her voice echoing unheard in the sleeping forest as the moonlight glittered onto the floor below. The silver she-cat stood slowly, her tail brushing against the ground. Slowly, like a snake drawn from slumber, Lichenfrost turned around and began to walk towards the mountains - she began to walk towards Frost.
