Ravenstar padded along, silently, as usual, her long black and white fur softly carressed by the light breeze. Pale amber eyes grazed over the path before and around her, missing nothing. Slightly behind her trotted her white brother, Falconwing. They were the only two cats on the small patrol of the TreeClan border. To their right was the Deer Path, owned by neither Clan and pretty much a free path for any cat that wished to use it, even loners and rogues. Ravenstar hoped not to encounter any of the deer toms with the big spikes on their heads, they could be very aggressive and highly dangerous when angered or threatened. Her rival from apprenticehood, Heavypaw, had learned that the hard way, and had joined StarClan's ranks for his foolishness.
They stopped shortly and Falconwing strengthened one of the scent-markers before they moved on, "So far so good," he meowed conversationally to his sister.
Ravenstar nodded, "Yes, it seems TreeClan is respecting our border well for now. Come, we still have more ground to cover before SunHigh. We should stop to hunt on our way back to camp as well."

The pale brown tabby cat padded among the trees in her search for the correct herbs, Oh where is that marigold? she asked herself silently as she searched around every tree trunk and dug in the ground a little with her claws. Her white paws stained with the dirt as she dug, she was unfazed by this as she had done it so many times before. She paused in her search for a small rest, she sat down and wrapped her brown tail around her feet, she lifted her white paw and began to lick it clean, she had got a small twig caught between her claws. Luckily as medicine cat Mistheart had no trouble in taking it out. As she licked the small wound clean a familiar scent washed over her. It was the clan leader, she must be marking the borders, she thought at the same time Falconwing’s scent reached her.
Mistheart stood up, she placed her uninjured paw down first and then the second, it’s not too bad, just a little sore, she told herself as she began to walk, slower than usual, to the two cats. As there shapes came into view she smiled at the site of her leader. They had gotten to be good friends as Mistheart became medicine cat, the leader was always there for her when she needed it and in return she was there for her. ’Good day Ravenstar! Falconwing!’ she mewed cheerily to the pair. She knew they must be marking the boundaries of the clan as the scents were strong in the air here, Treeclan scent was stale here, the other clan had apparently not been near here for awhile.

Ravenstar paused just as they were about to move on, hearing a familiar voice, though it came from downwind and so she hadn't noticed the scent. Turning her amber gaze to the tabby she-cat coming their way, her eyes brightened and she lifted her tail slightly in greeting, "Hello, Mistheart!" She padded to meet her friend and medicine cat. Falconwing hesitated, then followed, "Ravenstar, what about the rest of the patrol?"
Ravenstar waved her feathered tail dismissively, "We can continue in a short while," she replied, looking back at him briefly before returning her gaze to Mistheart, "What are you up to so close to the border?" she asked curiously, she wouldn't want a TreeClan patrol to run into her, though her being a medicine cat was probably enough to protect her. Pretty much every cat in all five Clans knew Mistheart from Gatherings and such and medicine cats are not to be harmed if you go by the warrior code.

As Ravenstar paused Mistheart continued to walk as fast as she could with her sore paw towards the leader. Once she was close enough to hear her properly with her small brown ears that affected her hearing somewhat she stopped and nodded in greeting. ’Good day Ravenstar!’ she mewed chirpily. She did not hear what Falconwing had said but she could lip read slightly and she knew it was about the patrol. She was about to apologize for interrupting and go back to her hunt for herbs, but when Ravenstar spoke again she had no need.
As Falconwing was dismissed Mistheart smiled, her pale blue eyes shining. ’Oh I was just looking for some herbs to restock my store.’ she told the leader, ’They usually grow well around these tree trunks.’ she explained. She was more concerned about the leader so close to the border with only Falconwing by her side, if a large Treeclan patrol came near by they could be badly injured. ’Sorry for interrupting your patrol,’ she mewed respectfully.

"Oh, it's no trouble," she glanced back over the border and back again, "It seems like TreeClan hasn't been this way yet today. Besides, I don't really expect any trouble from them at the moment. They've been pretty peaceful with us lately." As she spoke, Falconwing padded forward and sat slightly behind her, his ears perked and alert unless any TreeClan cats did come by this way and decide to cause trouble.
"You don't need any help, do you? We can always continue the patrol in a short while if you do. It isn't that urgent of a matter. Falconwing can keep watch on the border." She glanced at him briefly and he nodded.((ugh, sry, no muse ))

Mistheart smiled at the leaders kindness, she was glad she hadn’t minded her interrupting their patrol. She glanced over the border as well, there was still no sign of a Treeclan patrol, and hopefully it would stay that way for the rest of the day at least, but she knew this was unlikely as both clans had a border to protect.
At her offer to help her she thought for a moment, she was not in desperate need to get the herbs, but it would have been nice to have the company. ’Hmm, I think I’m alright for now,’ she mewed friendly to Ravenstar, ’Maybe if you finish your patrol first? Then we know that you won’t run out of time to finish?’ she finished. It would put her mind at rest knowing that she had not caused the border to be unmarked and a potential threat from Treeclan to arise. Mistheart flicked her brown tabby tail cheerfully at the leader’s kindness, her blue eyes glistened as she looked from Ravenstar to Falconwing.
((no worries, mines not that great either))

Ravenstar nodded, her idea was certainly logical, "Will you still be in about the same place when we finish? Or would it be easier for you to go back to camp and meet us when we return?" she asked, Falconwing standing and readying himself to take off along the border once more.
"Though, I'm sure it wouldn't take me long to scent you out if you're not going to be going very far...." She looked at Falconwing, who was a bit restless to get going. She knew he hadn't had time to eat yet today and was probably hungry and wanted to get back to camp for some fresh kill. She spoke to him while she waited for Mistheart to decide, "Why don't you start off without me, I won't be long and I'll catch up. Just be sure to stay clear of TreeClan's side of the border; I wouldn't want one of their patrols to find you even a pawstep over it while you were alone...." Falconwing nodded and turned, heading off at a slow and steady pace so that Ravenstar wouldn't have any trouble catching up.

Mistheart smiled as the leader nodded her agreement. ’I think I will still be in the same place, I can’t seemed to find it so I will keep searching.’ she mewed happily, ’I’m sure you could pick up me scent,’ she smiled as the leader mentioned it.
As Ravenstar sent Falconwing off ahead of her she did not hear what she had said, they had been too far away for her small, not so well developed ears to hear. She wasn’t bothered however; it was obviously none of her business. She looked to the clear blue sky with her blue eyes while she waited for her to finish. ’There is not too much more border to mark is there?’ Mistheart asked interestedly, she had never travelled all the way along the border before; she had never had the need to and she wondered just how long the leader would be before she helped her. Not that it mattered, she was just wondering.

Ravenstar shook her head as Falconwing disappeared from sight, "No, not much more, but enough with only two cats on the patrol. We'd get done faster if we had three or four but... everyone else was busy either training apprentices or out hunting and restocking the fresh kill pile or resting from the last patrol." She shrugged it off, it didn't much matter really. She and Falconwing were getting it done just fine.
"Well, if you'll still be around this area by the time we finish, I'll be back to find you. See you soon, Mistheart," she dipped ehr head in the slightest of farewells and turned, padding away to catch up with Falconwing. The sooner they could finish the patrol the sooner she could be back to help Mistheart out.

Mistheart smiled, her blue eyes gleaming. ’Well then, you had best get going then!’ she mewed happily, she was looking forward to spending time with her friend and leader. It seemed a pity that the other warriors were too busy to help on the patrol, Mistheart thought it seemed quite entertaining, it had to be better than training apprentices to fight! she thought to herself, she was completely against the fighting part of the clan as it wounded many and sometimes cost lives.
Mistheart nodded at the mention of her being in the area, ’Yes, I will still be around here somewhere looking for those herbs.’ she mewed with a chuckle before the leader went to catch Falconwing up. She padded back into the safety of the trees and immediately began searching for the marigold amongst the tree trunks.

Ravenstar had hurried the patrol a little, finding few signs of TreeClan at all and feeling statisfied that hurrying wouldn't cause any trouble for the Clan. Now she was back, scenting around for Mistheart's familiar scent to make sure she was alright and to help her find whatever herbs she might be looking for. Her scent wasn't hard to follow as she was very familiar with it, being a rather close friend to Mistheart. Soon, she saw the medicine cat, still looking for herbs it seemed.
"Mistheart!" she called loudly, hoping it was loud enough for her to hear. She padded up slowly, giving her time to notice her so she wasn't startled. Looking up through the pines, she found it was easy to see the sky and the sun in this part of the forest. The pines weren't nearly as thick near the TreeClan border and ground level plants grew much better here, not deprived so much of the sun. Of course, that was probably why Mistheart was looking for herbs here; if herbs grew in number anywhere in NightClan territory, it was near the TreeClan border, either that or the RainClan border where things were moist and, like by the TreeClan border, the dark pines not so thick.

Mistheart continued to dig in the grass and dirt around the tree trunks looking for the herbs she was lowest of in her store. She had given up on finding the Marigold and was now looking for Burdock root; this would mean more digging for her. She scented the air and continued to search, she could scent it nearby but it was just a matter of locating it amongst the grass the grass that looked deceivingly similar.
As she heard the familiar voice of her leader, as faint as it was, she lifted her head to see her. The leader was approaching her slowly, apparently deep in thought about something. ’Hello Ravenstar,’ she mewed padding up slowly to her with dirt stained white paws. ’The patrol go well I presume, you are finished fast!’ she mewed happily when she reached her, she had abandoned the ground she was digging at but it was easily to spot as a small pile of dirt lay beside it.

Ravenstar nodded as she approached, jolted from her thoughts by Mistheart's voice, "Yes, there was no trouble, of course, I didn't expect any." Glancing around, she spoke when her gaze came to rst once more on Mistheart, it looked as if she had been digging due to the dirt on her paws, "Would you still like my help? I'm prepared to get my paws dirty right along side you," she purred, her tail curling upward in amusement.
"Afterall, I haven't been doing as much as I should be for the Clan lately... everyone will think I'm lazy if I don't start doing more, soon." She shook out her fur lightly. She had just been preoccupied with her own thoughts lately, mainly wondering how much longer the peace woud last.... It was good for the Clan, but Ravenstar was a realist, and knew it could not last forever. Actually, that was part of the reason she wanted to help Mistheart gather herbs, some of them might be badly needed if a battle broke out soon.

Mistheart nodded, a satisfied look on her face, ’That is good news then!’ she purred happily. She hated battle, it caused completely unneeded injury and death and she believed the whole world would be much better without the unnesecary blood shed. She chuckled at the leaders remark on the matter of the dirt on her paws. ’Are you sure you don’t mind getting dirty?’ she asked, afterall she was the leader.
Mistheart shook her head in disagreement, ’You do all you can for the clan! Without you they would have fallen apart long ago! she stated clearly from her thoughts, this was what Mistheart truly believed, that Ravenstar did more work for the clan than she realised, raising spirits, Misthearts herselves on many occasions did wonders for the clan and only a true and loyal leader could do as much as her.
’Well… we could go back over here and look for this, it is so difficult to tell apart from the large blades of grass!’ she explained, ’I don’t think it’s here though,’ she mewed kicking the small pile of dirt back into place. She padded over to a very small pile of the herbs she had collected, poppy heads were always the easiest to find, she also had a few Burdock roots but knew she needed more. ’You can pick up the scent from these, ‘ she said poking the roots with her dirt stained paw.

Ravenstar shook her head, "Dirt doesn't show well on my black fur, and the little bit of white is easy to wash. I don't worry about dirt much." She flicked her tail dismissively at the thought, "Besides, it's for the Clan, and dirt never hurt anyone." She purred in slight amusement.
As Mistheart stated what she felt about her leadership, she felt slightly assured that she wasn't doing so bad afterall, "Thank you, Mistheart. I'm just grateful that I wasn't the one who had to lead our Clan here... Russetstar was a brave cat to have done it." She glanced around at her territory, the only one she had ever known. She wondered what it would have been like, traveling here, leaving all she had ever known, leading her Clan to some unknown place, "I know I could if I had to, but still... I admire Russetstar greatly for what she must have gone through." Her pale amber gaze came back to rest on Mistheart as she spoke now of finding herbs.
Ravenfeather followed the medicine cat over to the pile of herbs she had already collected, opened her mouth to draw in their scent and nodded, "I'll see what I can do then. Hopefully I'll be able to add a little more to pile." She opened her mouth and began to scent the air, padding around slowly, attempting to find the scent Mistheart had showed her, watching the ground for any signs of the herbs she wanted.
After a short while, she called back to her, "How do you do this, Mistheart? Day in and day out, just herbs and more herbs.... It seems awfully monotonous, don't you ever get bored?"
