"Let's go!" The deputy charged out into the ominous air. His pads pressed strongly against the ground picking up speed. His tawny pelt became a brown comet as he ran. The scent of Dawnpelt lingered, but so did the heavy scent of rain.
His green eyes were sharp, looking out for any sign of the gray she-cat. He couldn't seem to tell which direction she had been headed, stale and new scents were mixed together. He stopped and looked over his shoulder.
"Can you tell where she was headed?"

Tangleweed nodded as the deputy signalled and left the camp heading out into the darkening territory. His brown and white pelt pressed back on his body as they bounded on in search of his sister. Oh where has she gone! he thought to himself slightly annoyed at her carelessness.
He turned left and right every so often to see if he could catch a glimpse of her, the scents in the air were a mixture of stale and new, but after being with Dawnpelt for so long he could tell it was strongest here.
’I think this is the right way,’ he mewed, but the scent seemed to trail off in all directions, it was as if she was trying to confuse them or something, but why? he had to ask himself.

"We ought to start then! I think.... is that the direction of the Mountain? Are you sure it's not from last gathering?" The thunder rolled once again, and a rain drop fell onto Leafscar's nose. Then some more hit his pelt. "Okay, I change my mind! Let's go!"
The tom bounded out in the direction Tangleweed had pointed out, finding that her scent - faint but the stale one's had been completely washed away - did in fact clear out into the direction of the Mountain. He slowed down to see if Tangleweed was behind him.

As the deputy mentioned the gathering a look of dismay washed over his face, he could be right. During storms scents were always harder to follow and this was definetly causing them some problems. ’It’s worth a try isn’t it?’ he asked, clearly worried for his sisters safety.
As Leafscar bounded on so to did Tangleweed. As he caught up with the tom he stopped beside him, ’Do you think this is right?’ he asked, he was not sure himself. It was a faint scent, but that could be caused by the rain, surely the older ones from the gathering would be gone by now.
As the rain got heavier still and large droplets fell from the sky causing his pelt to stick to him more he began to wonder whether his sister’s sudden disappearance had anything to do with what they had talked about before he left for hunting. I have to get to the bottom of this, he thought, she has never been this distant from before!

Tawny fur not flattened down and almost black, the large tom padded into the clearing. The scents of the four other Clans still stood here, but Dawnpelt's had seemed to evaporate.
"She must have come in this direction and then turned off...." Leafscar muttered. It was true, since the she-cat wasn't at the last gathering her scent wasn't anywhere near the Gathering place.
His green eyes clouded with a thought. What about the Lynx-Cat, Demon? Could she have.... He cut the thought, once again picking up the smell of the gray warrior. "Here!"

The large brown and white tom followed after the tawny deputy, still following the scent of his sister, it was growing fainter by the minute. Once they finally reached the gathering spot he lost the scent. Maybe she wasn’t coming this way? he thought to himself, somewhat confused.
’Yea…’ he mewed, thinking, ’But why?’ His face did not betray his head, complete curiosity and concern in his green eyes. ’Where could she have gone from here?’ he asked in wonder. At that moment however Leafscar picked up her scent, Tangleweed padded over to where he had called him, and sure enough Dawnpelts scent was there.

He began to pick up speed, his legs heaving with effort. Dawnpelt could be in danger, he could envision the sight in his mind. The pretty gray she-cat, covered in blood. And the evil look in Demon's face. He imagined Demon to be even larger than twolegs, even a tough match and powerful enough to defeath their monsters!
Leafscar was incredibly worried, Dawnpelt could be hurt! Or dead. He concentrated on finding her, until another scent flowed into his nostrils. A cat, but he didn't think it was Demon's smell.
The tawny brown tom stopped to inhale the scent again. "What do you make of this?" He asked Tangleweed.

As Leafscar started to move faster, so to did Tangleweed, they needed to stay together in this storm. He glanced at the sky quickly, the clouds were still dark over head and the rain drops were growing heavier every minute they were out in the territory, in search of his foolish sister. Tangleweed stopped straight away at the scent of his sister, but with her, there was another scent. A confused and concerned look came onto his face, It doesn’t smell like a clan cat, he thought to himself patting up to the deputy who had now stopped as well. ’Do you think she was with whoever this scent belongs to?’ he asked worry on his face, maybe this intruder had hurt her. ’What is she playing at? he mewed again, but more to himself this time. He looked at the deputy for some answers, although he knew that Leafscar was just as confused and concerned as he was. He couldn’t help but think how the deputy would react when they did finally find her. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Another rumble of thunder boomed over head making the grey she cat flinch. Her pelt was now stuck to her body as she was out of the shelter of the tree she had been with Maverick at. She had stopped to clean herself hoping to rid herself of his scent. I wonder what they would think if they found a loner scent on me? she thought, but it was another thought that just brought back the fact that she was to have his kits.
She bounded on through the territory, looking around for any signs of danger or threats. She had become increasingly worried since she had met Maverick, she worried about him as well as herself, and now that Demon had been mentioned she was all alert.

Leafscar had continued to follow the two scents until he had spotted Dawnpelt. Her fur was soaked as well, now dark enough that she could pass for a black cat. He bounded over to her and yowled her name, "Dawnpelt!"
The tom stopped in front of the she-cat, his green eyes lost their dark look. He examined the she-cat; she wasn't injured, which was good. He looked over his shoulder to see what Tangleweed would say.

As they followed the scent Tangleweed kept his vigil, looking for any signs of his sister. When she was spotted in the distance he bounded over to her, his brown and white pelt stuck to him as it rained. Now his sister was here her scent was strong, but the other cats scent still lingered with her. He nuzzled into his sister, ’Thank goodness your all right!’ he mewed, but the thought of where she had been still lingered in his head, who is that other cat? ’What did you think you were playing at! Coming out here in this storm!’ he mewed firmly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dawnpelt looked at Leafscar and then her brother as he came over to her. I wonder if they suspect anything or if they saw Maverick. Were they looking for me? She hoped her grey eyes did not betray her and that her tear stained cheeks were blended with the rest of her fur thanks to the rain. ’Sorry…’ she mewed quietly, ’But I can do all that I want too, I’m not some kit!’ she added a little more firmly, she was trying to hide her upset and avoid further questions.
’Let’s get back to camp!’ she mewed as she passed the two of them at a normal speed, she knew they could catch up if they wanted but she didn’t care, she just wanted to get back to the camp in the dry and think about Maverick and her future kits.

Glancing after Dawnpelt, Leafscar began to pad after her. The rain was pelting down harder now, leaving all three cats no mercy. The deputy began to pick up speed, hoping to get back to camp and get dry.
Rather than take the way they had followed Dawnpelt, she led them on a direct pathway back to camp. Once the enterance was in sight the tom began to slow, thinking of how nice it would be to finally dry off his tawny pelt. Still, he wouldn't let Dawnpelt out of his sight this time. He wondered what she had been doing out, alone and not even close to camp when the heavy scent of rain had warned even the toms.

Silverstar motioned for Dawnpelt to follow her to her den. Once they had set down Silverstar turned to Dawnpelt." Where were you?" she asked.
She had just returned from hunting when she heard hat Dawnpelt had been missing and that a patrol had been sent out to look for her. "Answer truthfully" she added. She had a feeling that Dawnfire had been hiding a secret for awhile.

As soon as Dawnpelt took off Tangleweed threw a sideways glance at Leafscar and padded along by his side. He wanted to give his sister some time to think before she got back to camp, and she had never spoken to him like that before. ’There’s definetly something up!’ he whispered to the deputy so that she could not hear him. ’She is so… I don’t know…’ he mewed thinking of the correct words to describe her, ’distant!’ he finally decided. As they reached camp he stayed with the deputy, he might want to discuss her further or to simply be alone. Tangleweed knew this was a big deal for him though as he had been the one that had mentioned finding her in the first place. As Silverstar beckoned for Dawnpelt he wondered how the she cat would react, don’t be too hard on her! he pleaded in his head, he didn’t think she was in a fit state to deal with a mass questioning. ~~~~~~~~~~ The grey she cat padded into camp ahead of the boys and was headed to the warriors den when the voice of the leader stopped her in her tracks. She turned around to see her at the entrance to her den. Oh no what now! she thought to herself agitatedly throwing a glance at her brother and the deputy as they entered.
’I just went for a walk…’ she mewed firmly holding her ground, there was no way she could tell the leader the truth at the minute. Her heart was beating rapidly with worry and fear of what she might find out. ’I needed time to think about things,’ she mewed hoping she sounded convincing. ’I didn’t notice the rain coming.’ she added.

Leafscar immidiately groomed himself once in the safe refuge of the hollow tree. He cleared off the rain, his fur losing it's dark contrast. He eyed the passage to the leader's den.
He would need to discuss patrol's for tommorow with the leader, not to mention decide cats for the gathering. This incident might hold Dawnpelt back, if he knew Silverstar. The tom sighed and stretched, Dawnpelt would be okay for now.
His eyes flicked over to Tangleweed. The tom looked very down, and Leafscar thought about what he had said earlier. Distant.... Leafscar thought about the other scent they picked up. Could it be that scent? Is some cat after Dawnpelt.... or is she going after them? There wasn't blood and she looked fine so I don't think she was chasing off an enemy cat. I will solve this mystery, for the good of TreeClan I will!

"Make sure it doesn't happen again" Silverstar replied. "Go ahead and go to the warriors den to warm up" she added. "Oh, and I think it would be for the best if you didn't go to the gathering"she said. She had a feeling there was more to the story then Dawnpelt was letting on, but she woldn't push the issue now.
She exited her den and motioned for Dawnpelt to go ahead and leave. " Leafscar" she called, ready to discuss patrols.
