*Caracalfang frowned at the deputy.* That's not a good way to look at it, Darksong. We want them to catch something, for the good of the clan. I want us to win too, but not at the price of some cat's meal. Don't take this so serious. It's supposed to be for fun, but I'll march right down to the river and tell them we forefit, if you see it that way. *He gave the deputy a meaningful look and slunk over the hill. He heard something rustle in the undergrowth and pounced on it, delivering a bite quickly. Well, it wasn't a rabbit, but their pile grew to include a squirrel.*
*Smoketalon reached the river just behind Foxheart.* Well, good race anyway. Even though we both know I would have won if we started at the same time. *He said playfully. He looked along the river and gave a sniff.* Oh. I smell a vole already! *He winked and slid forward on his belly. Over the next rock, he saw a the little creature snuffling at some seeds. With a big leap, he landed on the thing and dispatched it with a swift nip. Smiling around his catch, he showed it to Foxheart, then covered it to keep it safe.* There's one!

"Yes, I know Caracalfang. I just want to win. I'm a competitive cat. And with all that will be caught between the four of us and other hunters, if any, no cat will go hungry tonight." A slight smile was showing in Darksong's voice. He took pride in providing for his Clan. "Nice catch too, Caracalfang!" Darksong meowed to the Warrior. "It's my turn to catch something now..." The white deputy cocked his head and heard a small rustling. It was a vole! Crouching down, he stalked toward the vole. When he was within a tail length of it, he pounced. The wind blew and Darksong landed weird on the vole. He caught it by the tail and flung it to Caracalfang so he could finish it off.

Foxheart purred good-naturedly, "Yeah right, I am known as one of the faster cats in the Clan, you know." As he scented prey and slunk off, she sat by the side of the river, making sure that her shadow didn't fall over the water, and stared patiently into it. She hated hunting, most of the time, it was so boring... and she usually missed her prey more often than not because she got bored and her mind wandered. However, fishing might be the only way she was actually good at hunting. She could let her mind wander all she wanted but as soon as a fish was spotted it didn't take much to dispatch it. Just a quick flash of the paw and that was that.
Her ear twitched to the side as Smoketalon padded back and buried his freshly caught prey. She tilted her head toward him briefly to give him a smile before going back to concentrating on the water. Shortly, a fish swam by and one red paw flashed out, claws unsheathed, hooked it into the air and flung it onto shore. She pounced on it and endedits life quickly, giving silent thanks to StarClan for its life. She picked it up and dropped it near Smoketalon's buried catch, burying it as well "And that's two!" she purred, pleased that this seemed to be going well and wondering how Caracalfang and Darksong were doing. She sat down to lick at the paw she had caught the fish with, the water was icy cold this time of year and even for RainClan cats, it wouldn't do to go around with soaking wet paws.

*Caracalfang slammed the vole down, but hadn't been ready for the toss. The little creature swarmed away in a flurry of fur and whiskers down a nearby hole.* Foxdung! Well, I never was good at catch any way... Best move along, that clumsy attempt probably alerted everything in this area. *He turned right and headed up another short hill to try the small dip there.*
*Smoketalon chuckled.* Thought you said you weren't a good hunter. You're matched with me, so I think you're doing fine. *The grey tom strode up stream towards the trees along the bank. He intended to get a squirrel, but instead found a small mouse. Under other circumstances, he would have left it in favor of a bigger catch later, but being leaf-bare, he would take what he could get. He pounced and took care of the prey, then headed back to drop it on the pile.* Ugh, that one is a little on the tiny side. Well, maybe one of the kits will take an interest. That about all that's going to feed... *He sulkily took up a position downsteam of Foxheart, so as not to disturb her fishing, and waited for a glint to catch his eye.*

Darksong chuckled at Caracalfang's attempt at catching. It felt good to let loose. It was something he hadn't done in a while. "Ok, next time you'll throw the vole and I'll catch..." The deputy was having alot of fun with Caracalfang. At least until thoughts of Foxheart clouded his mind. Darksong's fur stood on end as he thought of Smoketalon being with her, and not he. A scurrying noise caught his attention. Crouching down, Darksong began to stalk in the direction of the sound. Nearing it, he caught the scent. It was rabbit, and by the scent, the exact same rabbit he had almost killed when Foxheart, Caracalfang, and Smoketalon had came along. This time he would catch it. As he pounced, Darksong landed on top of the rabbit and bit its neck, killing it instantly. "And that is three for team Caracalfang and Darksong. One closer to winning..."

Foxheart purred softly in amusement, "I said I wasn't the best hunter, yes, but fishing is a different story." She kept her tone soft so as not to scare away any potential fish or anything. Her paws were freezing just from that one fish though. Maybe fishing wasn't the best idea in leaf-bare, but the Clan needed to fed and the river always held plenty of fish, even when prey ran scarce. It was part of the reason she really enjoyed being a part of RainClan; it wasn't often that RainClan cats went to bed with growling bellies. When he moved a bit downstream, she focused once more on the water rushing by, or rather, past the water and into its depths. After quite some time of sitting there and no luck with a fish swimming by, she blew out her breath and stood up.
Covering their current couple catches with some pebbles and sand and snow from the shore suddenly turned to Smoketalon, her green eyes bright, "Hey, Smoketalon! I have a... sort of secret fishing place my brother and I found as apprentices.... We could go there and win the contest for sure, there's always lots of fish there!" Her tail twitched in excitement and as she turned from the river, "Come on, I'll show you!" She would then pad swiftly away, though it was only a brisk pace, not one hard to catch up with. She would lead the tom along the bank for a while before they came to a place where a couple stones broke the surface of the river, though it was covered with ice.
Carefully, she leapt from stone to stone, trying her best not to slip. "Watch out, the ice may look steady, but its pretty thin," she called back to him. After a couple more leaps, she was on a secluded bank. In new-leaf and all through to leaf-fall, it would be surrounded by thick reeds and ferns, as well as nettles and brambles that were hard to push through without getting at least a few scratches, which was why no cat really knew about this place. Once more on the bank, she slapped at the ice covering the river, which after a couple more slaps, broke off, and she dragged them from the water to reveal a nice hole for them to fish from. Almost as soon as she had removed the ice, a fish's tail flopped above the water briefly. The water here looked somewhat green, and Racoonmask had said there must be a lot of aquatic plants down there for the fish to eat or something. After a couple moments more, Foxheart had already caught another fish, "See, this place is great!"

*Smoketalon grinned as she took off to the 'secrete spot'. She was coming alive, he saw it in her eyes. Plus, He loved to fish, so this was a nice turn for him. Really, he had only gotten the few pieces of land prey for the cats who would want something different. And, a fishing trip was what he and Caracalfang had set out this morning for anyway. Foxheart's warning tipped him off to the slipperyness of the rocks, but his paws still stuttered a bit on the rocks. He looked quickly to see if she noticed, but she didn't seem to and he was glad. By the time he made it across the river and through the brambles to sit next to her, she had cleared away the ice and was pulling a fish out of the water.* Nice catch! And, yeah, this is an awsome spot, thank you for sharing it with me. I promise to keep your secrete. *He kept his voice low to keep from startling the fish. He gave her a wink and moved to stare over the water. Suddenly, his paw lashed out and he pulled up a large fish. He added it to the pile she had started and smiled at her.* I think that makes up for that dinky mouse I brought back.
*Caracalfang padded up the hill with a smile as he saw Darksong bring down the rabbit.* You think, my friend. We don't have any idea how much the other two have caught. *He went a few paces forward and saw a mouse snuffling in the leaf litter. He sank down and began to stalk forward to it. The mouse picked it's head up and looked around, and Caracalfang became worried it sensed him. He froze as he waited for it to relax.*

"Ah, my friend, but I have this internal sense that we will win. Not really. Anyways, this is good for the Clan." Darksong was walking along when all of a sudden, he heard a large rustling in the trees. Hmmm... I'll go check that out... He thought. The tom stalked over to the tree and began to climb until he reached the top. Sitting on a branch, he looked for the source of the disturbance, but it was gone, so he climbed back down the tree and saw Caracalfang stalking something. Freezing midstep, he urged Caracalfang forward, for he had suddenly felt a tingle of foreboding.

At his comment about the mouse he had caught earlier, she purred in amusement, her voice soft as his was, "Any prey is good prey in leaf-bare." She hunched down beside the water once more, leafy green eyes watching the water for the quick silver movement of a fish. The moment she saw one she leaned forward slightly and lashed her paw out once more, flipping it back up onto the land and ending it with a swift blow of her paw. "We'll definitely win!" She flattened her ears a moment after she had spoken, her voice had come out much louder than she had meant it to. "Oops...." One ear twitched with embarassment, "Sorry," she whispered with yet another purr of amusement, laughing at herself.

*Caracalfang was about to spring toward the mouse when he heard a shuffle behind him. Apparently, Darksong had not been paying attention. And if the tawny warrior heard it, the mouse for sure had. He leapt forward, but the mouse dodged and slipped down a nearby hole. The tom raised to his feet and swatted at some leaves in frustration.* Missed it by that much. *He smiled over his shoulder wanly.* I am much better with fish. I think we got enough though. Let's go meet the other two.
*Smoketalon purred with laughter at Foxheart's slip. She was cute when she was embarassed. He gestured towards their fish with his tail and a smile.* I think you're right. And I think, you know, since you scared all the fish, *his eyes twinkled and his voice held the joke,* we should probably head back to meet Caracalfang and Darksong. It will be getting dark soon, at any rate.

Darksong saw the tabby warrior throw up the leaves and realized that he had scared away his mouse. Cursing his clumsy feet, he twitched his tail in frustration. "Sorry I scared the mouse away... I guess we should go meet the others." He was hoping that all of their prey had been enough to catch Foxheart's attention. He was obviously more deserving of it than Smoketalon. His eyes narrowed at the thought of the warrior being on a hunting trip alone with Foxheart.

She purred at his playful insult, then nodded, "I suppose. I think between all four of us we'll have quite a bit to feed the Clan. Cherrystar will be happy. Oh... don't tell anyone I brought you here... Racoonmask thinks we're the only ones who know about it," she purred softly again. She and her brother had always been close and always would be, she would hate to burst his bubble by telling him she had shared their secret fishing place with another cat.
She stood and took up the fish she had caught, leaping lightly back onto the stones, even more careful now with the prey she was carrying. Once she got back to shore, she picked up the one fish she had caught before heading to the 'secret spot' and waited briefly for Smoketalon to do the same before heading back toward where the four of them had all split up. It had been a pretty good day. She had had fun and the Clan was going to eat well tonight. It wasn't often she had fun while hunting... it was generally a rather boring and frustrating task for her as she got distracted too easily and tended to scare away her prey.

*Caracalfang nodded politly to the deputy. It would be good to get back after the good hunting they had had. And if Smoketalon had gotten even half of what they had (though he doubted it would be that small an amount) the clan would be very well fed this night. He padded to the places he had covered his prey, gathered it carefully, and led the way to the appointed meeting spot. He smiled around his jaw full as he thought of Foxheart and Smoketalon spending the day together. He hoped it had gone well. In his oppinion, it was time for his son to find some cat.*
Don't worry. I'll keep your secret. But, you have to promise to bring me back sometime. I will keep away unless you are with me. This is your place. *He smiled before stretching his jaws and scooping up his prey, which was mostly of the land variety. He pad behind her happily as they made their way to the spot, confident that they had the winning pile. He flipped his tail to Caracalfang as he saw him lay his catch down up ahead.*

Darksong followed Caracalfang and uncovered his prey. He couldn't wait to get back to the Clan. He was determined to prove himself to Foxheart. Darksong was getting irritated with Smoketalon. It was time for the claws to come out. This battle has not started... But it's going to be a tough one. He thought, eyes narrowed.

She nodded, "Sure, next time we have a contest to win we'll come back." She flicked her tail against his shoulder playfully. When she spotted Caracalfang, she trotted ahead and dropped her fish, then stood to one side and waited for Smoketalon to drop his prey onto their pile. She was excited to see if they won or not. "So did you two find good hunting without me there to scare away all the prey?" She purred and sat, licking her cold paws to warm them a bit after their excursion into the leaf-bare cold water.
(blah... so short! sorriez.... Funny how Foxheart is so oblivious to both Darksong and Smoketalon's intentions... lol)
