Fawnpaw 10 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLANFawnpaw had been 4 moons old when Berrykit, Ravenkit and Owlkit had been made apprentices. She had only known the dark-pelted tom a little while, but never when they'd both been 'paws at the same time. Partly because he was one step ahead of her, Amberpaw, Finchpaw and Thornpaw, and partly because he'd disappeared for three entire moons. Owlpaw was polite, Ravenpaw was standoffish and sarcastic. But what was Berrypaw like?
Carrying a plump vole she'd caught with Maplebrook that morning, Fawnpaw curiously poked her head into the medicine cat's den. "Falconstorm? Bluejay?" She called through the dark fur of her catch. Admittedly, she hadn't seen Bluejay in a while. I guess they're both out...
A soft hiss of pain snagged one of Fawnpaw's blue-shaded ears, and she followed it, spotting the black-furred tom walking out of camp as if he'd gotten very tired of being nest-ridden. Fawnpaw would've laughed if she wasn't a little concerned; bringing the vole over, she set it down a rabbit-length from Berrypaw. Trying not to stare at the patches of skin showing on his leg, Fawnpaw spoke up, tone slightly wheedling. "Should you be walking around like that? Falconstorm's going to catch you." As we soared above the town that never loved me I realized I finally had a family ❋ 170ish Words ❋ Hellion Justice (Falconstorm mention) ❋ Notes

15 Moons. Apprentice. TreeClan. "Don't go outside by yourself. Make sure someone can help you get around. That leg won't heal itself. Rest"
Those were and a few others were on repeat for the young tom-cat from the moment he woke up to the moment he went to bed. If it wan't Falconstorm talking to him it was Bluejay, she was by far the worst. Alway insisting she fetch him prey or seek out an apprentice to change his nest. Berrypaw might have nearly lost his leg but he wasn't entirely helpless. Grateful they both left him alone long enough for him to move about without their constant nagging, the first thing Berrypaw did was make a break for it.
It was slow going. The pain was still there and it ached a lot. Bluejay wasn't yet ready for him to start training, she insisted he needed a few more days. The trip back from Amara's home had been difficult and wore them out more then he expected. Not that he'd ever say anything.
Limping away from the medicine cat's den with the goal to find something to do just outside of camp. Berrypaw was stopped by a she-cat he didn't really know. Turning toward the sound of her voice he tried to remember her name. It alluded him but he tried to hide his confusion by offering a big smile, despite the pain.
"What Falconstorm doesn't know won't hurt him. Now help me get out of camp. You can be my escape partner, like Amara was," He told her flicking his tail in an attempt to direct her to his good side. There was a height difference but Berrypaw had been living with his leg for awhile. He knew how to walk with support and not rely entirely on the other cat.

Fawnpaw 10 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLAN"No, but it'll hurt you." Fawnpaw shook her head as the apprentice stubbornly tried to continue on. Mousebrain. She had a soft spot for stubborn cats, though; Ravenpaw probably wouldn't lend a paw to help her brother. Fawnpaw didn't know what went on in that family, but Ravenpaw didn't seem to like them very much.
"We're just going to the sparkling brook, okay?" Fawnpaw's ears flattened a little, feeling a prickling sense of unease slide into her belly. What if they got caught? She didn't want to disappoint Maplebrook, or Lionstar, and especially not her mother, Moonfeather. Yet she sympathized with the older apprentice, and found herself standing at his side, petite even for her age though revealing a little stubbornness of her own.
Stubborn to make sure he didn't do more damage to himself by trying to go alone. "We're going slow. If you do anything stupid, Berrypaw, I'll make sure Falconstorm knows you tried to escape." She'd be his 'escape partner', as he put it, but it was clear with her sweet face set in an almost comical look of sternness, that she would not tolerate any 'nonsense' from him. Age. Rank. Clan. Hearing yet another cat tell him that he would hurt himself had Berrypaw rolling his eyes. He had survived with a loner for three moons! He managed to walk home, did that count for something? Trying not to let his frustration show, Berrypaw resorted to flicking his tail back and forth. If she wasn't going to help then'd he just had to wait her out until she got bored of watching him then he'd make another break for it. However, that wasn't the case.
"We're just going to the sparkling brook, okay,"
Berrypaw's smile grew ten times bigger and a short purr escaped him. She was going to help him! Pleased by her decision to help him, Berrypaw tried not to look to excited as he moved to offer him support. He put just a little weight on her before setting off. The pace was painfully slow and his ears flicked as she gave him a stern reminder that she was prepared to tell on him.
If she hadn't agreed to help him Berrypaw would have teased her for being a goody-goody cat, but by her helping him she had earned herself a positive spot in his life.
Their arrival at the brook had taken more time then he expected but truly grateful to be out of the camp, Berrypaw moved away from her slightly. He limped on his own a bit until he could put his paws in a shallow part of the brook. The cool water was refreshing. "Thank you..uh..Fawnpaw?"He thanked her in the form of a question, a little unsure of who she was. A lot had changed in the three moons he was gone.

Fawnpaw 10 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLAN"Fawnpaw. Amberpaw's my sister, Aspenpaw's my brother. Maybe you remember Moonfeather?" Her mother, of course. They had played together once or twice, with their mothers keeping an eye on their antics to make sure the larger kittens (his litter) didn't completely squish the smallest ones in the nursery (her litter). Her memories of those days centered around her siblings and Silentsong's two, Thornpaw & Finchpaw, more than Mockingbird's litter, but she remembered him being... playful?
Unfortunately, that was all she remembered of him.
Approaching the sparkling brook, Fawnpaw gently dipped her front paws into the water, surprised at how, well, hard it had been to support another cat this far. How that loner, Amara was her name, right? had done it without anyone's help impressed her. Fawnpaw's gaze settled on the water, watching the sunlight filter through the leafy canopy above, making a collage of little patches of light and shadow across the brook's surface.
Fawnpaw's tail-tip twitched, and she made a sidelong glance at Berrypaw, a question on the tip of her tongue. As we soared above the town that never loved me I realized I finally had a family ❋ 173 Words ❋ Hellion BlooRey DVD ❋ Notes

12 Moons. Apprentice. TreeClan. Now he remembered! They were smaller then him and Moonfeather often reminded him that Amberkit, Fawnkit and little Aspenkit were smaller then him. It was hard for him not to play rough with the smaller ones. He didn't quite understand that his paws were bigger and he had better control of his body. It wasn't really a fair fight. Not that ever stopped him. He could remember a few times Moonfeather gave him 'the look' which was one all queens had once they had kits to suckle. It could send a shiver up even the toughest warrior's spine. Berrypaw had been on the receiving end of it for more times then he'd care to admit.
He relaxed further in the shallow waters before stepping out. He did a series of slow circles before sitting down, his hind leg out at an awkward but oddly comfortable angle. The muscles ached and the scars formed on the limb weren't pretty. He hoped that the fur would start to grow. In a display of self conscious behavior, Berrypaw groomed the tender scars before turning to look at Fawnpaw. She looked like she wanted to ask him a question. Not one to beat around the bush, he titled his head slightly.
"You can ask me about it if you want. I've told the story a million times already. One more time won't hurt," He told her before he returned to groom his overall pelt. Flinching once when he moved too much and caused a sharp pain.

Fawnpaw 10 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLAN"You really don't mind?" He clearly didn't, judging by how casually he groomed his pelt (rather, the skin underneath it), and how little he actually thought of the story. Am I the only one that hasn't heard it from Berrypaw himself? She had the general idea... He'd gone off to Demon's den on a dare... and never come back. Obviously the lynx had gotten him.
But somehow, he'd survived. "How did you escape? Demon must have caught you." Wide eyes darted to the scars on his hide. "It looks like you were either really really lucky, or that Demon made a mistake." Fawnpaw wasn't foolish. She knew better than to think one apprentice, no matter how much training he had, could take on a full grown lynx. She'd heard the elders talk of how big it was.
Of how cruel the teeth, of how long the claws. Fawnpaw shivered, withdrawing her paws from the cool water to sit on the bank nearby. The blue-shaded kitten didn't know whether to think him completely stupid for taking such a dumb dare, or brave, for that exact same reason.
One thing was for sure, though. Fawnpaw didn't mind looking the other way when her denmates started doing risky things, but if she'd been around to hear Sedgepaw's and Fernpaw's mousebrained dare, she would've told someone. Maybe they would've caught Berrypaw in time before... Before the lynx had first. As we soared above the town that never loved me I realized I finally had a family ❋ 235 Words ❋ Hellion ❋ Notes

12 Moons. Apprentice. TreeClan. He barely managed to stifle a yawn. It wasn't a mockery of her question but a sign he was actually tired. His leg kept him up late most of the time, he rarely slept through the night. The walk to the brook was tiring now that he wasn't driving himself forward on pure stubbornness. Lazily flicking his tail, Berrypaw lowered himself more to relax a bit more. The more stretched out he was the less pressure was on his leg. Making it more comfortable all around.
"I think StarClan has bigger plans for me. When Demon caught me he grabbed me by my messed up leg and tossed me around, at some point he let go or lost his hold. I'm not sure on that bit. I kinda went into shock, so a lot of it is fuzzy. Amara must have heard my yowling and came to see what was going on. I'm not sure how she did it but she pulled me away from Demon and told her little den. He paused for a second in the middle of his story. A flash of blood and pain rocking through him, forcing the tom to claw into the soft dirt of the brook bank. They were phantom pains an unfaded memory. He sometimes got them normally they went away as quickly as they came as long as he was somewhere he knew. He had to remind himself he wasn't dear Demon's den.
"I uh..lived with her for awhile. She became my friend. Did you know Amara used to live in the mountains with a bunch of other she-cats? Her mother used to lead this group of fierce fighters. Amara probably could have killed Demon if she didn't save me,"Berrypaw explained, lazily flicking his tail back and forth. "I bet Thornpaw and Finchpaw are jealous that I'm closer to Amara then they are!" Berrypaw added with a chuckle, thinking of the look on their faces. Would Thornpaw glare at him and call him a liar or would he insist on getting to know his aunt for himself.
"Are you close with them?" He asked her with a smile. Duskrose was the oldest apprentice in the den, with her and Dunefang gone, Berrypaw and his siblings were the oldest. He considered himself closer, friend wise, to Dunefang then to Duskrose. Not that he was opposed to making friends with the younger group in general.

Fawnpaw 10 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLANFawnpaw's pelt fluffed up. Demon was playing with him! Why else would he toss Berrypaw around like a moss ball? That was terrifying. She didn't want to be... a toy for some monster cat. Amara truly was a hero. "It's too bad she's not a Clan cat. I wish we could get to know her better. And you should do something nice for Amara later, when your leg's all healed. Maybe bring her some feathers for her nest, as a thank-you." Fawnpaw purred, hoping he'd like her suggestion.
That's what she would have done for a cat that had saved her life. Her mother had taught her to be polite and respectful. And she was a Clan cat. Nobody would ever accuse her of being rude on purpose, not if she kept her head on her shoulders.
Mention of Thornpaw and Finchpaw made her smile immediately. Too bad they're not here with us. Any time she spent with one or both of them usually meant good spirits and lots of laughs (or eye-rolls, if Finchpaw was involved). "After Amberpaw and Aspenpaw, they're my closest friends." Fawnpaw paused, considering. "Thornpaw's probably my best friend." He was always willing to go along with her plans, or convince her to follow one of his.
Fawnpaw swept her tail around her paws, looking at the dark-furred tom. "But that doesn't mean we can't be friends," the kitten mewed. She didn't want him to think that she only wanted to hang out with her siblings and Silentsong's litter. She'd be happy to call Berrypaw a friend, so long as he wasn't a jerk. Fawnpaw had nothing against any cat; Owlpaw was mature and nice, and it would be nice to spend time with him too. Ravenpaw.... Er... She was about as friendly as a burr, but it wouldn't be so bad to hang out with her. As we soared above the town that never loved me I realized I finally had a family ❋ 310 Words ❋ Hellion ❋ Notes

Apprentice of TreeClan | Tom Young hearts, out our minds Running 'til we outta time Berrypaw nodded at Fawnpaw's suggestion to bring Amara a gift, something to show how thankful he was. It was nice to know that no everyone was hostile toward his savior and treated her as one. Amara was the reason he was still alive. Moving sligthly to alliviate some of the pressure off his legs, Berrypaw got even more comfortable. He suspected only a few more days of nest-rest before he'd be allowed to normal apperntice things. He didn't mine sneaking out, he just didn't want to do it all the time.
"I will do that for sure. I'll have to find out where she is staying now, it's Greenleaf so I'm sure she is looking for a new place to make a den," Berrypaw told her, lazily flicking his tail back and forth. He wondered if he could track Amara down by himself. He hadn't been much of a tracker but it didn't seem to hard.
Then the mention of Aspenpaw had Berrypaw flicking his ears forward. Aspenpaw? The cat was smaller than his sister but Berrypaw hadn't heard anyone talk about him being a runt. He also didn't seem that small now, most runts stayed small. Shrugging away the tangent, Berrypaw smiled as she suggested they'd be friends.
"I think I like you better as an escape partner. Go to gal when I need help escaping Falconstorm's watchful eye," Berrypaw replied back, flashing her a warm mischievous smile.

Fawnpaw 10 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLAN"I think I like you better as an escape partner. Go to gal when I need help escaping Falconstorm's watchful eye,"
Fawnpaw's skin burned a little beneath her pelt, as she was caught in the crossfire of his mischievous little smile. Against her better judgment, she felt her heartbeat start to gallop. He's cute when he smiles like that. Said the part of Fawnpaw's brain that was just now beginning to recognize toms as interesting.
But trouble, said the other part of her brain that wasn't at all sent into a swoon by Berrypaw's reckless charms.
Not making any promises to be his 'go-to-gal', Fawnpaw allowed herself to smile — and then change the subject. "So! Who is your new mentor going to be?" After the greencough epidemic... Berrypaw's mentor had gotten sick and died like so many of their Clanmates. It was a bittersweet topic. Fawnpaw felt a few dregs of regret over bringing it up, but Berrypaw acted like a cat who took things in stride. He seemed more upset over his leg than anything. Apprentice of TreeClan | Tom Young hearts, out our minds Running 'til we outta time The lack of answer didn't bother Berrypaw. He had a feeling his charmed work on her and if it hadn't he'd still try. Fawnpaw had been the first not to get Falconstorm at the first istance of him wanting to do something. She might try to follow the rules but she also seemed pretty okay with bending them. Just how he liked to.
His ebony tail flicked back and forth as the question came from Fawnpaw. He hadn't given it much thought to who his mentor was going to be. His last mentor had died during the greencough outbreak. Berrypaw was sad for the loss of them, but he honestly didn't know them that well. He was hurt not long after becoming their apprentice.
"I have no idea. I figured Lionstar will want to pick a cat that is patient enough not to get frustrated with me for being so slow at least until I get my strength back," Berrypaw explained to her, relaxing back a little. The one thing he feared was losing the ability to ever properly walk. He didn't want to be slow-poke all his life. He wanted to get back to climbing trees and fighting.
"I kinda wish I could be my dad or mom. I know it is usual but they are both great warriors," He told Fawnpaw as he looked toward her with another toothy smile.
"Do you like your mentor?" He asked sweetly, to keep the conversation going. * Wild child's lookin' good Living hard just like we should

Fawnpaw 10 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLAN"They're great, but they might not push you very hard." Fawnpaw couldn't help her observations, the words tumbling out in a thoughtful tirade - though she hadn't missed his question. "If you think about it, what cat is most likely to go easy on you during battle training? Or forgive your mistakes? A parent. Besides, Mockingbird's training Amberpaw." Lionstar wouldn't really assign Berrypaw to his own mother, would he? Fawnpaw didn't want her sister's training to be completely halted.
There were plenty of other great warriors in the Clan that could help Berrypaw catch up to his siblings. Fawnpaw caught that toothy smile, and the end of her tail twitched. He's grinning at me again... It was nice, though. Maybe not as nice as Thornpaw's, but still nice. "Maplebrook's great," she mewed, the pride and fondness for her mentor showing through at once. "She's more like an older sister than a teacher - but I'm still learning plenty. I can't wait to start battle training. I want to see what I'm made of."
I want to see if it's something I can be good at. The pink pads of Fawnpaw's feet began to itch, and she fought the urge to seek out her teacher to beg a battle lesson from her ahead of schedule. She was sure Maplebrook had her own plans and her own ideas of when Fawnpaw would be ready for that part of her apprenticeship - but Fawnpaw couldn't pretend she wasn't impatient.
She wanted to be a great warrior. She wanted to be good at so many things.
"Does Ravenpaw ever visit?" Fawnpaw turned the conversation back around, attempting to satisfy her curiosity. She wasn't very familiar with Mockingbird's family - at least not since their time together in the nursery - and that made them interesting. They played such an important part in her and her sister's lives, why not get to know them better? That's what she was doing right now, with Berrypaw. Apprentice of TreeClan | Tom Young hearts, out our minds Running 'til we outta time Berrypaw had to nod in agreement. She had a point, but he didn't find it important to voacalize his agreement. As she went into a queston, Berrypaw had to think on it a moment. He knew plenty of warriors but didn' really know them. In fact he didn't think he could consider any of the older cats his friend. They were really just cats he that lived together, Berrypaw would defend them but at the same time he didn't trust them with his woes. Flicking his tail as he thought more about the question he gave up finding an answer and just shrugged.
"I don't know who could train me. I know I don't want a someone grumpy and thanks for reminding me. I almost forgot about Mockingbird training Amberpaw. " Berrypaw explained with a smile, which hid his discomfort about the uncertainty of his future mentor.
Berrypaw kept his ears flicked forward as he listened to Fawnpaw talk about Maplebrook. He was glad that she had a decent mentor. Maplebrook was one of those warriors that he admired as a young kit, watching them train but overall knew very little about them. "I'm glad that Maplebrook has been a good mentor," He added with another smile.
For a moment they sat in silence but he sensed that Fawnpaw had a question and as she asked it, he turned his attention away from her. He loved his siblings because they were family, but Berrypaw realized he hadn't been a very good brother. He almost gotten himself killed, his family mourned for him. All he had to show for it was a busted up leg and scarred flank.
"To be honest I don't see any of my siblings much. I assume they are both pretty busy, but it leaves me time to hang out with other cats. Like you," He told her with a toothy grin, again hiding the discomfort at the lack of family time in the recent days.

Fawnpaw 10 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLANWhen a cat smiled that much after every answer, they had to be hiding something. Fawnpaw wanted to pry, to peel back the bark and see what was inside, but she knew better. He didn't need her being intrusive. He must be worried about his future. About his leg. About his mentor. About being made a warrior on time... It was a little sad to think about, but Fawnnpaw realized that she and her siblings might actually become warriors before Berrypaw did.
He was spirited, and had survived a lot - but what if that hurt his self-confidence? Fawnpaw didn't want to be the reason for anycat's suffering; yet she couldn't let things outside of her control make her unhappy about her own ceremony. I hope it's soon, but not... too soon.
"Berrypaw, Fawnpaw."
The pale-furred huntress turned around in astonishment to find Mockingbird gazing at them sternly. "You are not allowed out of camp by yourselves. And Berrypaw, your leg is still healing." With fur like ash and golden eyes as bright as the dying sun, Mockingbird went to her kit, encouraging him to rise. "And Fawnpaw, your mother is looking for you."
"Oh--okay." Fawnpaw threw a sympathetic glance at Berrypaw. He was obviously in trouble. "Bye Berrypaw. We'll have to hang out more when your leg's all better, okay?" I'll visit again soon. With Mockingbird taking care of her son, Fawnpaw was left to find her own way back to camp.
That was fine with her. Berrypaw had given her a lot to think about. As we soared above the town that never loved me I realized I finally had a family ❋ 254 Words ❋ Hellion ❋ Notes: Finished!
