Brookfall 22 Moons Tom RainClan Warrior Brookfall had multiple reasons for going to the sand bar in the late afternoon. The first, was that he wanted to scout the location of what was going to be his first training session with Wrenpaw. Growing up in the Purists' encampment, Brookfall had little experience with the sand bar; he couldn't recall the feeling of damp sand, warmed by the sun, under claw as he dodged an opponent's strikes. Simply because those memories didn't exist, like it did for two of his three siblings.
Brookfall's second reason for going to the sand bar had much to do with the first. Now that he was a mentor, he would have less time for family. And, unfortunately, less time for her. So he chose to soak in the last of his leisure time with his loved ones, having invited Stormfeather, Silverfrost and Gorgeleap to the sand bar for nothing more than a bit of fun. They could talk, fish, swim, and enjoy each other's company like they had in the first two moons of their apprenticeships, before the civil war had unwittingly divided them.
The silver tom forded the narrow channel of water surrounding the rightmost side of the sand bar, shaking some excess water from his pelt as he set paw on the sun-warmed island. It was calming here. Ironically, he found a place meant to turn soft-pawed kittens into hardened warriors to be one of the most relaxing spots he'd ever been in. Hearing a faint splash, Brookfall's becalmed expression gave way to a beatific smile. "Afternoon, Stormfeather." He purred, greeting his sister with a fond gaze. He wasn't the only one in the family that felt a big-brotherly, overly protective aura whenever she was around. Stormfeather was perfectly capable of standing on her own two legs - but Brookfall, like the others, couldn't help wanting to keep an eye on her.
And on everyone that interacted with her. "Who do you think we'll see next? My prey's on Silverfrost." Brookfall's yellow eyes glittered, showing mirth. "If Gorgeleap doesn't bother, we'll have to drag him here by his ear-tufts."

After her patrols for the day were done, and the freshkill pile was stocked with her share of the catch, Stormfeather silently slipped out of camp. Greenleaf was finally here, and the entire camp was filled with the afternoon chatter of her clan mates as they basked in the warmth of the sun and shared tongues with one another. She was grateful that she was able to exit the camp unnoticed, as she hurried her way toward the sandbar.
Brookfall had requested Silverfrost, Gorgeleap, and her to meet him there in the evening and Stormfeather hoped she wouldn't be late. Although she didn't know quite why her brother wanted them all to meet up, and it didn't really matter to her either. The young she-cat had missed their times together, and there wasn't really a lot of time to bond with their duties and responsibilities in adulthood.
Once she reached the narrow channel of water that separated the sandbar from the rest of the land she could already see Brookfall waiting on the other side. Stormfeather dipped into the cool waters, and swam her way to the small island. As she set her paws on the familiar warm sands, her presence caught the tom's attention.
"Afternoon, Stormfeather." He purred, ""Who do you think we'll see next? My prey's on Silverfrost. If Gorgeleap doesn't bother, we'll have to drag him here by his ear-tufts."
"Brookfall." She greeted her brother back, a purr rumbling in her chest as she brushed her flank along side his. There was nothing in this world that she loved more than her siblings, not even the clan itself. Her kin would always be the center of her life.
"I think we both know best that Silverfrost will be the next to show up. Now that we said that though, watch Gorgeleap show up and surprise us both." Stormfeather laughed at the thought of irony, as she sat beside Brookfall in the warm sunlight awaiting the arrival of their brothers.

Brookfall 22 Moons Tom RainClan Warrior Brookfall snorted, whiskers twitching. "For safety's sake, I don't think I'll be holding my breath." It would be amusing if Gorgeleap proved them wrong, but... Brookfall felt like he knew his brother. If anything, Silverfrost might be bringing Gorgeleap with him if only to pester their sibling into actually getting out of camp to enjoy himself.
Gorgeleap's idea of 'enjoying himself' was probably sleeping in.
"How have you been?" Brookfall asked of his sister, his haunches folding neatly into a sit. While she collected her thoughts, Brookfall recounted the past few days while he had a willing audience. "I've struck up a nice friendship with Moonshine - Ashfoot's widow - and nearly caused a scandal in the process." His expression revealed a mixture of humor and remorse, as if he would change what happened if he could - but knew it impossible, and was trying to chuckle now that it was over. Now that it was dealt with.
"Her only kit, Wrenpaw, caught us fishing by the river. I think we gave him the wrong impression."
He didn't blame the younger tom in the slightest, for jumping to conclusions. After his father's untimely, tragic death at the teeth and claws of Demon, and then his mentor, Sandfalcon's, rapidly deteriorating health, Wrenpaw had been... out of sorts. It was easy to see shadows everywhere, when you weren't looking for light.
The subtle flicking tail-tip hinted at an unsettled conscience, but Brookfall pushed those feelings aside. "The situation was corrected," Brookfall smiled. "But let me tell you, Stormfeather, I don't enjoy being something of a nest-wrecker. I'd be more worried for my reputation if I wasn't confident the matter had been put to rest."

Stormfeather RainClan Warrior Stormfeather quietly listened to Brookfall speak about the current events in his life. She couldn't help but to find it amusing, and at the same time wonder how she was that out of the loop with clan gossip to have not heard anything about it.
"To be fair, I don't see how it makes you much of a 'nest-wrecker' when her mate is deceased, to be frank." The she-cat meowed, with a hint of confusion. "I am curious though, how were you able to correct the situation?"
"As for me though, I've been good. There's really nothing interesting to report. I'm still waiting to receive my first apprentice." There was a slight pause as Stormfeather debated to admit the next part of what she was going to say to her brother.
"I also wonder if I'm ever going to find a tom someday to settle down, and have kits of my own with. There's not even so much as rumors about me and another tom going around the clan." The she-cat ended on a playful note, shooting a teasing glance at Brookfall.
Stormfeather glanced back toward the water and let out a small sigh. The evening was gorgeous, and warm. The weather was perfect, and she'd finally be able to have much needed bonding time with all three of her brothers whenever Silverfrost and Gorgeleap show up. She hoped to StarClan that Silverfrost thought ahead and was coaxing Gorgeleap out of camp himself. Fawn Justice BlooRey DVD | background image | table by phoenix

Brookfall 25 Moons Tom RainClan Warrior "To be fair, I don't see how it makes you much of a 'nest-wrecker' when her mate is deceased, to be frank." The she-cat meowed, with a hint of confusion. "I am curious though, how were you able to correct the situation?"
"I think we can all admit that the timing was... insensitive," Brookfall replied, his sheepish smile fixed in place. Even when she asked him the specifics. "By telling the truth," which was, in complete honesty, an absolute lie. He had lied to keep Moonshine's secret safe, lied to reassure Wrenpaw - and he lied now, to his own sister, to ensure those previous lies remained intact.
I should have been named Spiderfall, for all the webs I've been weaving. He didn't precisely know how to stop telling them. The truth was so hard to share, even if there were no obvious signs of detriment to himself if he did... Yet something always stopped him.
Perhaps it was the fear that once he started, he wouldn't be able to keep anything to himself until everything was out in the open. And Brookfall couldn't allow that. Moonshine had her secrets, but he had secrets of his own, too.
Thankfully, the conversation veered away from him even before he could nudge it in a new direction. Brookfall purred, throwing a supportive glance Stormfeather's way. "The only reason you haven't found a mate yet, Stormfeather, is because there are few toms, if any, in RainClan that deserve you. Between you and me, I think they know it."
There were few warriors around their age that Stormfeather wasn't related to. Piketooth was one, but Brookfall would rather cut off one of his extra toes than allow that insufferable, rude, needlessly aggressive warrior anywhere near his sister, let alone near her heart. He was confident Silverfrost and Gorgeleap shared those sentiments. Jaycry and Vinestripe existed on the upper end of the spectrum, both close to senior warrior status. They were potential suitors, but Brookfall still felt a strong sense of loyalty to Stormfeather, and felt she didn't deserve to settle.
They were all so young, still. A cat would turn up, likely one they'd accidentally overlooked.
"Have you been to see Dewkit and Fernkit? Fernkit looks like her father, right down to the whiskers." Brookfall thought fondly of his nieces, and of Echoshade, their mother.

Tear the whole world down, tear the whole world down WARRIOR OF RAINCLAN || 22 MOONS || TOM Mixed brown paws plodded a path through RainClan's territory, pale green eyes half-lidded as the large tom moved. Despite the lazy appearance of his motions, the RainClan warrior moved at a surprisingly steady pace, covering more than enough ground to arrive at his destination in a timely manner. The thick fur on his tail streamed out behind him, a banner announcing his arrival. It was warm out, far too warm for the tom to have been out on his own accord. Brookfall, however, had requested his presence at a sibling gathering of sorts out on the Sand Bar.
A more sentimental tom might have found it endearing to know his brother sought out the company of all his siblings. Gorgeleap didn't mind spending time with Stormfeather, Brookfall and Silverfrost. It was the location of the desired meeting that inconvenienced the Maine Coon. He was very much looking forward to arriving, knowing the water would be cold as ice on the swim to the Sand Bar. Maybe then I won't feel like a trout left out in the sun too long. He thought to himself dully. His broad muzzle swung to the left, green gaze scanning the surroundings to pick up out any familiar presences.
As he approached the river, he rapidly identified Brookfall's lighter pelt, and Stormfeather's slimmer build. Noting idly that Silverfrost hadn't arrived yet, Gorgeleap directed himself to the river's edge, several fox lengths up from where the Sand Bar jutted through the river. Without hesitation, dark striped legs bunched and propelled him into the water. The river surged around his frame as he disturbed its course, feeling its strength tear through his pelt in an attempt to drag him downstream. Large paws splayed wide, creating paddles as he expertly maneuvered them through the cool water.
For such a large tom, Gorgeleap moved surprisingly smoothly through the rushing river. He paddled hard, pale eyes flicking to his left every moment or two as he judged the distance between himself and the Sand Bar, as well as his general location in reference to it. Rhythmic paddling ceased suddenly, the strong current seizing him and pulling him downstream with no apparent forward motion until.. At the last moment, he surged forth again, claws digging into the Sand Bar's base as he pulled his heavy frame from the river's grasp. Despite the thickness of his pelt, much of the water rolled off his RainClan-characteristic pelt, the remainder of which was quickly shaken off.
Flattening his chest fur with a pawful of licks, he moved to close the distance between himself and two of his three siblings. As he approached, his observant stare noted something pass between them. They also appeared to regard him with a nearly incredulous stare. Narrowing his eyes just so, the tom stopped a few tail lengths short of them. "... What?" ~440 Words || Justice Fawn @shady ||Couldn't resist him proving them wrong XD

Even the hourglass stops Take my breath away I was born to shine
He needed a break. A break from the grief that lingered over the clan from the ravages of greencough, a break from the responsibility of his apprentice, just a break. He wanted to go swimming, to forget he had anything to do other than swim and waste the day away. He'd go swimming, then dry out on a rock warmed by the sun all day. Then he'd go home and go back to life as usual. What he didn't expect, when he arrived, was to find his siblings already there ahead of him. Blue eyes widened slightly before a grin spread across his features and he darted forward. It had been ages since they'd all hung out together. This was even better than going swimming alone!
"Stormfeather, Brookfall, Gorgeleap!" He called out to them, trotting forward and headbutting his sister in greeting. He did remember that she'd wanted to meet with him, but he'd forgotten that it was today until just now. No reason to tell them that. Stormfeather RainClan Warrior Stormfeather was about to reply to Brookfall's question about Dewkit and Fernkit, but was interrupted by the arrival of Gorgeleap. The she-cat tried her hardest to suppress her shock, as to not seem rude, while she exchanged glances with Brookfall.
Being the observant cat he was however, Gorgeleap could sense the surprise between the two as he inquired about it. "Oh nothing." Stormfeather purred, "It's just a delight to see you come here by your own will, I'm glad you didn't decide you had better things to do." The she-cat joked to her brother, keeping as much tact as possible.
As if on cue, Silverfrost was the next to arrive as he padded across the channel of water and strode toward the three of them. The tom called out to his siblings as he headbutted Stormfeather in greeting.
"I seem to be a bit late." He meowed to the group.
"Nonsense!" Stormfeather mewed, "It's nice that we're all here now. It makes no difference who came when, us being together is what is most important." Her light green eyes gleamed with warmth at her brothers, it had been so long since they've all been together for reasons other than clan work. Brookfall 25 Moons Tom RainClan Warrior Well, it seems I should've held my breath after all. Brookfall's handsome features relaxed into a soft grin, letting some of his humor over being proven wrong masquerade as being happy to see Gorgeleap. He was happy to see him, but there was a glint allowed in the silvery tom's sharp yellow eyes that had nothing to do with the pleasant reunion.
No sooner had he flicked Gorgeleap's tail with his ear - a very brotherly gesture - than Silverfrost was crossing the river to reach them. Good. We're all here. Brookfall, as the one who had arranged this meeting, fell naturally into the role of leader. With other cats, he would not have felt it was his place to lead anything (unless that's precisely what they wanted him to be, Brookfall the leader), but this was his family. He could not be entirely himself, in their presence, but he could be more himself than what was strictly normal throughout the course of his day.
And this version of Brookfall enjoyed the company of his siblings, eager to share in their joys and sorrows and keep tight the threads binding the kits of Burrthorn and Lilygleam.
"Chin up, Gorgeleap," he mewed to their tabby brother, who was easily the largest of the four. "We're going back into the water. We're not NightClan cats, after all." Why sit around on the sand bar, when they could enjoy themselves in the shallows? It was warm today, and they would all find relief in the soothing flow and ebb of the river through their pelts. With a playful flick of the tail to Stormfeather's flank, Brookfall went to the opposite bank they had arrived on.
He could see the sunlight glinting on the shallow ends, the water shimmering so invitingly. "Last one in is a slow slug - or have you all matured too much for a bit of fun?" They were all still so young. Yes, he had an apprentice now - so did Silverfrost, and soon enough Gorgeleap and Stormfeather would as well - however, there was a time and a place for taking on the role of mentorship.
A pleasant family outing on the sand bar wasn't that place, or the time. Brookfall drank deep of the nostalgia, his ears standing tall and avoiding the flecks of water churned up by his entry to the river. We were lucky. Greencough took from us nothing more than some time and our stamina. Thank StarClan, their family was still whole.

Tear the whole world down, tear the whole world down WARRIOR OF RAINCLAN || 22 MOONS || TOM Gorgeleap's ear twitched as Silverfrost approached from behind, bounding over to their siblings with much more enthusiasm than he himself. Lumbering after their silver-furred brother, the large brown tom touched his nose to Stormfeather's shoulder in greeting. Though not as outwardly affectionate as Silverfrost's headbutt, it was something Gorgeleap had begun doing when they were kits, reserved only for their sister, and it had stuck despite their separation as apprentices. Brookfall was the next to greet him, using a small gesture that, to Gorgeleap, was just as important as the one he shared with Stormfeather. Not that he would ever admit that.
Rolling his eyes and flicking his ear at Brookfall, Gorgeleap lifted a paw to prod his brother with, simultaneously tapping Silverfrost's flank with his tail in silent greeting. His pale green eyes were on Stormfeather, however, rumbling out a seemingly begrudging answer to her earlier statement. "I figured you lot had greater potential for something interesting than the Clan did." He lowered himself into a half sit, haunches collected beneath him though he was too warm to actually be comfortable. He could only imagine it would get progressively worse as his coat dried off in the sun too. Fantastic. He thought grimly.
Brookfall's voice caught his attention just then, the mixed brown tom's eyes snapping to the lighter tom. His gaze narrowed fractionally at the words Brookfall opened with, for they reminded Gorgeleap of something you would say to a kit. But he stayed quiet, figuring his brother was going somewhere with whatever it was he had to say. The promise of water had his broad shoulders relaxing fractionally, tail tip twitching from beside him. The group leader's taunt fell on deaf ears when it came to Gorgeleap, the tom making no jarring motions to catch up. Instead, he rose to his paws, before motioning with a sweep of his fore paw for Stormfeather to follow.
She-cats first, or something of the sort. Waiting until their sister bounded after Brookfall, Gorgeleap followed in a gait reminiscent of a badger's, tail writhing slowly from one side to the other behind him. "Surely you know, Brookfall, that I'm an elder in a young cat's body." He meowed flatly, an impassive stare focused on the lighter colored, long-furred tom. "We're not all graced with boundless energy, as you are." His tail tip flicked Brookfall's shoulder as he passed, large paws stepping into the water.

Stormfeather RainClan Warrior Stormfeather's ears perked up at Brookfall's taunt, and she couldn't help but to let a small smile form on her face. The young she-cat was glad to see that even after all this time, there could still be light moments and playful banter between the four. They had grown up, but had not grown old.
Well except maybe for Gorgeleap, though Stormfeather suspected there was still a lot of youth lingering inside of him even if he didn't show it. As quick as Gorgeleap had gestured her to follow, she was already bounding past him, in pursuit of Brookfall.
"No fair!" Stormfeather called out to Brookfall. "You got a head start on us!" She mewed as she followed behind him, reminiscing on simpler times when the four of them would play, back before things ever became complicated; before responsibility ever loomed over their heads.
Upon reaching the shoreline, Stormfeather crouched on her haunches, springing herself into the water, making sure the splash was big enough to soak Brookfall. Once the dark gray she-cat surfaced, she blinked open her eyes to look at her brother who was now just as drenched as she was.
Stormfeather's eyes gleamed, as she let out a carefree laugh, playfully splashing his face with water by a single swipe of her paw. She could easily be an annoying sister sometimes, but Stormfeather knew her brothers could never be mad at her over small things. "It was your idea to be in the water!" She mewed teasingly to Brookfall, glancing back to see if Gorgeleap and Silverfrost were following. Fawn Justice BlooRey DVD | background image | table by phoenix
