TreeClan || 23 Moons || Warrior-Queen So much had happened since she'd chosen to move her kits from the place of her birth to the valley she now resided in. She had become part of a Clan, a group of cats joined together beyond the ties of family. She had raised her remaining two kits and a third motherless kit successfully, and now she had the chance to give back to the group that allowed her the ability to do so. TreeClan had given her so much, and its leader Lionstar had helped her and given her direction beyond that of protecting and providing for her kits. And that was something she would never forget, a debt that would never be fully repaid.
Today was about doing what she'd promised Lionstar she would; trying to do better. She didn't have many friends, and she had been very abrasive to some of the cats around her. She had a long way to go, but she could at least start with TreeClan's deputy. She'd disliked Gorsetail on sight, or more specifically the first time he'd said anything to her. And it hadn't been deserved.
So she was looking for him, wandering camp to figure out where the often busy cat was at this particular part of the day. He'd done much to change her mind as well. He'd been kind to her kits while they were sick, and he'd brought them home to her. He was a good tom, he should be apologized to.
Maybe, if she did right, she would have another tom in her acquaintance that she could trust as she did Lionstar.

Gorsetail Deputy of TreeClan i wish everyone was loved tonight and somehow stop this endless fight It had been a long day. Training Finchpaw was a vastly different experience from training Pinkcloud and Nightsky, and while he had found it very easy to metaphorically fall into step alongside the latter two, the former was an entirely different matter. At times, it seemed like they were exact opposites. Where the deputy did not mind walking quietly through the forest, his apprentice seemed incapable of going anywhere without announcing his presence. Still, Gorsetail would be the first to admit that he was fond of the younger tom who reminded him a little of his two brothers when they were apprentices. There was something endearing about his energy and enthusiasm – even if it took a little while to find. But he could not deny that merely keeping up with his apprentice made training ten times more tiring than he remembered it, and as much as he enjoyed spending time with Finchpaw, some days definitely seemed longer than others. Today was one such day, and it was with a longing glance toward the warrior’s den that he dismissed his apprentice for the rest of the afternoon. As Thornpaw was likely out training with Lionstar, he was hopeful that he would not have to worry about the camp falling to ruins by letting his apprentice have some free time. Green eyes surveyed the camp, lingering once more on the warrior’s den as their owner pictured his comfortable nest within, before being torn away to size up at the fresh kill pile. It was looking a little small, but with the hunting patrols due to return later that day, he was not particularly worried about that. Casting another glance around the area, he concluded with some satisfaction that there was nothing pressing that required his attention and turned away with the intention of heading to the sparkling brook for some peace and quiet. In doing so, however, he awkwardly caught Moonfeather’s gaze and hesitated. She had a weird expression on her face, and he wasn’t sure what to make of it. Maybe she wanted something? He figured that he should probably ask, just in case, but experience had made him wary of unnecessary interactions with her. Although he could never figure out what he had done, she never seemed to enjoy his presence, so he had made himself scarce and let Lionstar introduce her to TreeClan. His fur prickled along his spine as he flicked his tail indecisively before making up his mind. Mentally preparing himself for the snappish rebuke that he was likely to face, he changed course and headed toward her. ”Everything okay?” He asked, green eyes studying her expression for a moment. ”Can I help you with anything?” Abruptly, Gorsetail realized why her expression had looked so strange at first: it was because the usual distaste that usually accompanied her interactions with him was no longer evident.

TreeClan || 23 Moons || Warrior-Queen When she noticed him coming towards her Moonfeather reminded herself that there was no logical reason for her not to like him. And now that she thought back on it, she couldn't remember what it was exactly that had set her off before. Something about all the new cats and everyone telling her what to do maybe. She took a breath and padded over with her head held high and catching his gaze. The first step was always the hardest.
"Hello Gorsetail." She offered almost shyly, not really sure how to deal with this tom after being so averse to his presence before. "Everything is fine, I was looking for you actually." She took another breath, fur fluffing out a little before settling. "I owe you an apology." She ducked her head, actually realizing she was ashamed of how she'd treated he and many others. "When I first came here I'd been alone with just my kits for a long time. I didn't know how to deal with other adult cats, I was heartsick and starving and I just wanted to make my kits safe." She sat down, folding her tail around her paws. She was a small cat, or perhaps Gorsetail was large? She didn't really know anymore. "Where I came from it was more likely that a tom would attack and even kill a she-cat with young kits, to lessen the competition for food in the area. I went from my family unit to surviving on my own and starting my own family, all when I was the age that most of the Clan cats were still either new warriors or even apprentices still learning their paws."
She looked at him again, green eyes considering. "I know I acted irrationally, and I'm trying to make it right now. I'm a little behind on my social norms, but Lionstar has helped me allot. I want to stay here, I want to make my life in TreeClan with my kits. And to do that I have to be able to trust the cats around me. So, I'm sorry for how I treated you when we first met. It was uncalled for and I should have gotten to know you before getting defensive. And...thank you. Thank you for looking after my kits while they were sick. It soothed my heart to know someone was there for them."
Moonfeather got back on her paws, head canting just slightly. "That's all I wanted, I don't want to take up too much of your time." Though if he chose to continue the conversation, even forgive her, she wouldn't be adverse to talking to him. After all, Lionstar trusted him.

Gorsetail Deputy of TreeClan i wish everyone was loved tonight and somehow stop this endless fight Oh? His striped tail flicked lightly by his paws as he blinked at her words. A faint smile had reflexively turned the corners of his lips upward at her reassurance that everything was fine, but as she continued speaking, his expression turned into one of polite curiosity. She was looking for him? That was new. And then – an unexpected apology. Almost instantly, his face heated up as if it had been lit on fire, and something like shocked embarrassment crashed over him from head to tail. Green eyes glanced away from hers as the deputy ducked his head to give his chest fur a quick swipe, as he let all of the words and the explanations sink in. Out of everything he had expected the she-cat to ask of him, forgiveness had not been high on the list, though not because he thought so poorly of her. Rather, there had seemed to be nothing to apologize for; he had simply taken her hostility in – albeit a somewhat confused – stride and moved on, attributing her distaste to any number of reasons that were no less worthy simply because he did not understand their origin. Having spent a childhood as the victim of relentless bullying by Grayowl’s former prodigy, Gorsetail was no stranger to being on the receiving end of a sharp tongue, and though he would much rather everyone get along, the nightmare of his youth had thickened his skin. If he had learned one thing from being the target of Crimsonshadow’s aggression, it was how to avoid the attention of a cat who clearly did not want him around. So it was with practiced ease that the deputy had fallen back on old habits, though instead of evading the now-StoneClan warrior, he had made himself scarce around the new she-cat – and he had thought nothing of it. He could not deny that he had been a little hurt, at first, by Moonfeather’s complete denial of friendship, but it wasn’t as if he hadn’t faced worse. The moons that she had spent with TreeClan had shown him just how protective she was toward her kits, and it had reaffirmed his theory that she had likely been overwhelmed by the all the strange cats in the clan. It was a valid enough reason – certainly more valid than any excuse a young Crimsonpaw might have offered for his actions in any event. Before he had left for StoneClan, an older and more mature Crimsonshadow had pulled both him and Lionstar aside to apologize for the behavior of his youth, and it was to the memory of this somewhat awkward encounter than the deputy found his mind wandering. In a manner not entirely different from this one, he had been surprised by the regret that had other tom had voiced, but he would forever be glad that they had parted on good terms. If he could forgive his childhood bully, then he could certainly forgive the defensive she-cat who only wanted to protect her kits. But then, there hadn’t really been any question about that. ”Ah – Thank you,” He managed, once he remembered how to talk. Green eyes glanced up at her earnest expression as he sat beside her, and the deputy offered her a small smile. ”I appreciate it.” What else could he – should he – say? Accepting apologies and compliments had never been a particular talent of his, and it never helped when he did not know the other feline well enough to move on beyond the dance of polite small talk. In cases such as these, he believed that silence was often the best answer, but he made sure to keep his expression warm and open. As it turned out, it was just as well that he had kept his part short, for Moonfeather continued, thanking him for looking after Amberpaw and Aspenpaw. Any lingering awkwardness in his smile disappeared. ”It was no trouble at all,” He mewed warmly, a burst of fondness sparking through his chest at the thought of the younger apprentices. ”You should be proud of all three of them. They’re strong cats and they have good hearts.” Just like their mother. Even as she climbed back to her feet, Moonfeather seemed willing enough to continue the conversation, and in the spirit of this new beginning, he found himself just as inclined to reintroduce himself and give things the opportunity to go as they should have gone the first time around. ”Let’s start over, shall we?” An ear flicked and he tilted his head slightly to the side, meeting her eyes. A quirk of the lips, and then a light: ”Hi. I’m Gorsetail. It’s nice to meet you.”

TreeClan || 26 Moons || Warrior-Queen "I am proud of them." She ducked her head. At least he'd forgiven her, and seemed amiable enough to continue talking to her. "I gave them everything I could, what else can any mother give to her kits?" She smiled, and it lit up her face and brightened her green eyes. She loved her kits, and was very happy to have found a good place for them. Moonfeather paused there, using a paw to smooth out the fur of her chest in an absentminded gesture.
The she-cat blinked at the large tom, head tipping as he reintroduced himself. It took her a few moments to figure out if he was being serious about 'starting over' or not. Then, deciding he was, she played along. "Moonfeather." She flicked her tail at him.
She came alongside him and butted him with her side, before taking a few steps forward. "Won't you walk with me? It's nice today." She took a breath. "I almost wish there was more of a water source here. I still don't hunt very well, but I fish. I've been bringing small fish back for the fresh kill pile since Lionstar said I could stay." She took a few steps and actually tripped, barely managing to keep her paws. "Stupid legs." She actually growled. "My brother and sister used to tease me that I was only suited to the water because on land I look like a sun-bleached frog."

Gorsetail Deputy of TreeClan i wish everyone was loved tonight and somehow stop this endless fight Inclining his head slightly, the TreeClan deputy made an agreeable noise as he accepted her offer with a quiet, ”Certainly.” As confirmed by another cursory glance around camp, there was nothing pressing that required his immediate attention; he could afford to spend some time in Moonfeather’s company, if only to show his willingness to their new beginning. A few moments later, his words were followed up with a pleasant, ”It sure is.” Indeed, even with almost an entire season between him and the last of the leaf-bare cold, a part of him still basked in the light and heat of the sun as if the snowy season had never ended. Today, in particular, had warmed up very quickly, as the rising sun had effectively chased away the lingering chill of the night, and Gorsetail had opened green eyes to a pleasant morning that had persisted throughout his entire training session with Finchpaw. Climbing to his paws, he stretched for a moment before moving to step up beside her. As she spoke of her fishing ability, a skill with whom he knew RainClan cats were far more familiar than those of their own clan, he found himself glancing at her with interest. He could say with reasonable confidence that she was likely the only cat in TreeClan who were more successful catching prey in water than on land, and the tabby tom felt rather impressed. ”Well, I think you’re the only cat here who can fish well,” Gorsetail mewed with a small smile, ”So I wouldn’t feel too bad. But if you want, I might be able to give you some hunting pointers.” He paused, considering his next words. Although he was interested in learning her particular skillset, he was reluctant to ask for help so soon after offering his own; he did not want to make it seem as though his proposal would only stand if she paid him back in knowledge. But there were a few water sources in TreeClan that, at least to his inexperienced mind, had potential to be good fishing spots, and he wanted to be able to take advantage of them. ”And no pressure to do so,” He finally added hesitantly. ”But maybe you could also show me how to fish sometime? I would definitely be interested in learning.” They set off – and then stopped. One moment, she was there, right beside him, and the next, she was gone. Gorsetail turned just in time to see her stumble gracelessly over her own paws. A jolt of concern shot through him, but just as he had moved back to help her, she righted herself with a frustrated growl. ”Happens to the best of us.” A pause. ”And having stumbled upon one once or twice in my lifetime, I can say that you certainly look nicer than a sun-bleached frog.” The words were spoken softly, and they lingered for a moment before he changed the subject. ”I’m not sure where you might have been since joining us, but have you seen the Great Maple yet? It’s a beautiful sight, especially during leaf-fall; when the sun catches it just right, it looks like it’s on fire.”

TreeClan || 26 Moons || Warrior-Queen "Hopefully that doesn't mean I'm the only cat in this clan that can swim." She thought that all cats should know how to swim, if only in the case that the local water source overflowed and they needed to swim to higher lands. Of course, this being TreeClan, they'd probably just climb the trees above the water line. But she was practical.
He wanted her to teach him to fish? "I certainly wouldn't mind, provided you swim decently already. The easiest way is to get in the water and wait, I've found." Of course she could hold her breath for a good while to wait for them to come to her then snatch them. But she'd been doing this her entire life. It made her beam happily that he was even willing to learn something so unlike that which was normal for a TreeClan cat. And he wanted to try to teach her. "I'd like that." She flicked her tail a little, tapping him with the tip of it playfully. "I need to feel useful, Gorsetail."
Their paws had taken them from camp now, and she felt far better outside the camp. She liked being out in the open, where she could just run around and not have to try being better all the time. She had promised to try her best to be nice to the other cats, to get better acquainted with the clan, but it was a tiring process for a cat that was used to only a pawful of other cats being around her at any given time. And most of the toms still made her pelt crawl. It was just instinct honed from how the loner toms where she'd been born treated the she-cats. She was slowly coming to realize that the toms of TreeClan weren't like the ones where she'd been before, but it was a slow process.
At least he hadn't laughed at her for her nose over tail stumble. That got him a few points in his favor. His comment about her looks got him a grin and she gently rammed her side into his, clearly feeling playful. "Thank you. I have to say though, I don't much like climbing trees. I know I have to learn at some point, and if pressed I can climb and haul a kit as well with me, but I don't like it."
Her eyes lit up at the mention of the Great Maple. "I remember taking the kits to the meadow when we first came here, but I don't think I've been to the Great Maple yet. I haven't had much time to explore." Being a queen had been a full time job, and now she was learning her paws as an adult without a queen's duties, as a huntress and a warrior. She still didn't think she'd do very well in a fight, but she'd certainly try. "The grotto where I was born had four large trees that had grown so that their leaves intertwined with one another and the leaves would fall down on us when the season changed. I haven't seen a tree that big since I came here, so..." She wanted to see it.
