Took a little journey to the unknown
And I come back changed, I can feel it in my bones
I fucked with forces that our eyes can't see
Now the darkness got a hold on me
Oh, the darkness got a hold on me
Description & Summary
The mild appearance of her pelt does little to reflect her driven and spirited nature; that is, instead, left to her expressive light green eyes. Her thick, soft fur is a diluted tabby color, her dappled stripes melting into the creamy white that engulfs her pretty frame. Her feathered tail is primarily a pastel ivory color, marred only by a small bit of tawny-gray that cascades above the middle of her fifth limb. White whiskers fall elegantly from her gentle maw. Topped by triangular ears decorated with wispy pearl-colored hair. Below her wide, almond-shaped eyes her nose is adorned with a smoky gray color.
A pretty dilute tabby she-cat with long fur and light green eyes.
How long baby have I been away?
It feels like ages though you say it's only days
There ain't language for the things I've seen
And the truth is stranger than my own worst dreams
The truth is stranger than all my dreams
Oh, the darkness got a hold on me
Personality
Featherstep has always been a confident cat, unafraid to speak her mind and un-intimidated by those who would silence her. She is compassionate to others, though not always gentle. It does not matter who is at her paws, she will pour herself in to her work with equal measure, whether it be her dearest friend or an enemy. She is devoted to and passionate about her duties as a medicine cat, and lets nothing stand in their way, be it her own personal qualms or the limits of authority. Featherstep is a quiet and thoughtful cat, often failing to fill silence that may make some cats uncomfortable. If she doesn't have something to say, she will not speak. Her experiences have lead her to cherish the companionship of others, but she is still a creature of the shadows, and feels at home in the still darkness of night. She follows the stars, wherever they may lead, and has stood undaunted at the base of many a mountain she was compelled to move.
I have seen what the darkness does
Say goodbye to who I was
I ain't never been away so long
Don't look back, them days are gone
History
Featherstep was born in NightClan, within the stone stronghold the cats called home. She was made a warrior apprentice, assigned to Snowlark, but it soon became clear that StarClan had other plans for the young she-cat. Prompted by visions, dreams, and omens, she was guided to Smokefur, the NightClan medicine cat, who took over as her mentor. She trained under Smokefur, honing her skills and learning her duties as medicine cat apprentice. Mere moons in to her training, Smokefur disappeared, called on a quest for StarClan. Featherpaw was then lead to Snowheart, LightningClan's medicine cat, who trained her during the two seasons of Smokefur's absence. Smokefur returned in Newleaf, bringing with her a young tom named Stonekit. They struggled to resume their previous routine, as Featherpaw had been serving as NightClan's sole medicine cat for so long. But even as things started to feel normal again, Featherpaw's dreams were visited by a cat named Feathertail, a warrior that once belonged to the predecessors of RainClan. Called upon to find a group of cats long forgotten, she began a long journey, retracing the pawsteps of ancient cats. Guided only by the stars, she sought out distant mountains. After a season of traveling in solitude, Featherpaw was anxious to meet the cats she'd been sent to find. But the mountains were vast and dangerous, and greenleaf was turning to leaf-fall when she finally found the cats she was searching for. They lead her to a cave that sat hidden behind a waterfall and she met their leader, Stoneteller. As she taught Stoneteller about the clans she came from, she learned of the Tribe of Rushing Water. Feeling at home within familiar stone walls, she lent her healing abilities to the Tribe. As leafbare began to wrap its icy claws around the mountains, she began to hunt alongside the Tribe, further honing the skills she'd developed while hunting for herself during her journey. The Tribe began to call her Steps Like Feather. Featherstep.
Newleaf brought new life to the Tribe, and Featherstep's thoughts of home began to slip further and further away as she cared for the kits and their mothers. Greenleaf came, and with it a deadly illness that tested both Stoneteller's healing knowledge and her own. They worked together to halt the greencough that swept through the cave, devastating the Tribe's numbers. Pressed by omens she could not ignore, she began to recognize the task StarClan had meant for her. But leaving the only home they'd ever known was too much for much of the Tribe to consider, Stoneteller among them. As the warm season came to an end, she conceded. But a collapse in the cave, cutting off the chamber that once connected the Tribe to their ancestors and killing Stoneteller. Injuries sustained during the collapse slowed their progress as the Tribe, lead by Featherstep, fled towards the foothills. But the onset of the harshest of leafbares forced them to wait it out in the mountains, wintering in the close quarters of a tree hollowed lightning.
As the snow began to melt, Featherstep lead the Tribe towards the valley she was born in, only fifteen remaining.
Follow me into the endless night

Show me yours and I'll show you mine

The morning seemed to drag on forever for young Featherkit. The morning before, her mother had told her that the ceremony for her apprenticeship would occur the next day. She'd managed to remain stoic and patient yesterday, but now, with the occasion nearly arrived, it was all she could do to keep from purring with glee. The fading tabby had groomed her own long fur, then been assailed by her mother's raspy tongue shortly after.
It occurred to the she-cat that her clanmates saw her every day, covered in dust with untidy fur, but her mother just tsked when she saw fit to point that out. She sat just inside the nursery, her eyes fixed upon the boulder where clan meetings were called. Allowing her mind to wander, she almost didn't process it when a small black figure padded to the top of the boulder. "Let all cats able to walk on their own four paws gather beneath the Boulder Ledge for a Clan meeting!" NightClan's leader yowled. The downy she-cat padded forward eagerly, sitting near the base of the boulder, watching with excitement as her clanmates gathered in the central portion of their camp. "Today we see a kit begin her journey to warriorhood," Ravenstar mewed, and a chill ran down the she-kit's spine. "Featherkit, you have reached six moons and it is time for you to be apprenticed. Step forward." Doing as instructed, the kit rose to her paws and padded up the boulder to stand beside her leader.
It helped that the black-and-white she-cat wasn't very big, but the kit still found her a little bit intimidating. Turning to face her clan, she peered out to the cats gathered beneath, wondering who would be chosen to teach her the warrior way. "Snowlark, please step forward." She watched, tail quivering, as the spotted she-cat scaled the ledge to stand before her. "Featherkit, from this day forth, until you are given your warrior name, you will be known as Featherpaw. Your mentor will be Snowlark, and I trust that she will pass on all she knows to you." With the small she-cat's pause, Featherpaw's light green eyes moved to Snowlark, then back to Ravenstar as she began to speak once more.
"Snowlark, you have proven yourself a capable warrior and have served NightClan loyally. You will mentor Featherpaw, and I expect you will teach her all you know." The ceremony continued, and as Featherpaw touched her dark gray nose to Snowlark's own, she glanced over into the crowd of her clanmates. Sitting at the forefront of her clanmates was a transparent cat that she didn't recognize. The cat appeared to be a gray tabby, with black stripes parting her smoke-colored pelt. The cat appeared only for a heartbeat. Featherpaw blinked, and she was gone. Curious, but unshaken, she stared at the place where the cat had been as the cheers of her clanmates rose around her. "Featherpaw! Featherpaw!"
Other: Featherpaw, when communicating with StarClan, will speak regularly (but not only) with Littlecloud, Molepelt, and Redscar, all former medicine cats of ancient ShadowClan.
