Kestrelkit 3 Moons - Tom - StoneClan The birds circling over the meadow were making him dizzy. They had long, skinny necks, and bald heads - like someone had plucked all their feathers off. Hot, thirsty and more than a little uncomfortable, Kestrelkit squirmed in his bedding. Meadowkit was very, very ill. It scared him to see his sister struggling to breathe; Duskflower promised she would be alright, but he knew his mother was scared too. Her cough was just as bad.
Separated from the very sick cats, he tried unsuccessfully to curl up next to Meadowkit, but Dawnblossom had gently chased him out each time.
Sulking in the heat, Kestrelkit let out a few demanding, whiny mews, hoping his father was close enough to hear him. "Dad, can I go home now? I hate it here. I miss Meadowkit... Daaaad..." With a miserable sigh, Kestrelkit pushed up onto his paws and then nosed through the tall flower stalks, walking on spongy, springy beds of moss that blanketed the moss meadow. Something buzzed, catching the attention of his right ear. The kitten scurried toward the sound, watching a fat, tabby-striped winged thing land on a bright pink flower. Kestrelkit leaned in to sniff it. What are you?
BZzzt.
"OW! OW! Mom! Dad! OW!" Kestrelkit leaped out of his fur, stumbling over himself and swatting at his muzzle, where that strange buzzing thing had bitten him. With watering eyes and a high-pitched wail, he hurried back to the others. "Something bit me!" Laugh at yourself first, before anyone else can. 233 Words || @kahani, Silver || Notes

Meadowkit 3 Moons - She-Kit - StoneClanThe young calico she-kit was definitely ill, her tiny frame shook with effort every breath she took and not even the warm comfort of her mother seemed to make it better. Meadow mewed softly as she attempted to move her tired frame closer to her mother.
"Mama" the wheezed words were almost pathetic for the she-kit normally so full of life, Meadow knew that her illness had her family, particularly her brother Kestrelkit worried about her.
The kitten however was stubborn, she had told Starclan that she would not die, her family needed her to get better, Kestrelkit in particular, she had been half awake but much to tired or feverish to notice he often tried to curl up with her, much to the gentle scolding of their mother.
A loud loud whine of pain had Meadow open her eyes and blink several times to focus. "Kestrelkit?" her small voice spoke before coughing violently overtook her tiny frame and she closed her eyes, curling back into the warmth and soothing licks of her mother's belly.
"If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try."## @@ Fawn, Silver

SandpawMedicine Cat Apprentice of StoneClan He felt absolutely terrible. It had come on quickly after the gather. First was the sudden bouts of dizziness, then a fever, then the coughing. The nightmares from the fever were the worst. Still, Sandpaw had pushed onward, taking care of other cats just as sick as he was, and helping Dawnblossom when he could. He was learning the hard way that sometimes there was nothing to be done, even by the Medicine Cat. Cats had died, and the illness was still spreading across all the clans.
He worried for his mother, but he was grateful she wasn't sick like he was. He had stayed well away from her and refused to let her near him because she had been through enough without adding greencough to that. He had been tasked with keeping an eye on some of those especially effected, and he'd taken the job seriously. He knew enough about what he was doing to have which herbs would be useful, plus a few extra for emergencies. He was worried about Duskflower and Meadowkit the most right now. They were both so sick and Duskflower rarely moved around much these days.
He was heading over to check on them, head feeling like it weighed too much for his neck to hold up, when he heard the startled outcry of a kit. He also heard the buzzing and knew what had happened. Moving up carefully, he purred gently to the small kit and tried to calm him down. "Here Kestrelkit, let me help make that stop hurting. It's alright now." He gave the kit a gentle lick to the top of his head before pulling out some blackberry leaves. He chewed them up calmly before pressing them against the sting [after he made sure the stinger from the bee wasn't still in the poor kit's skin] in order to ease the pain.
He curled his fluffy tail around the kit and purred louder, hoping to offer comfort in the same manner that Dawnblossom and Duskflower often had shown him growing up. "There now, that's much better. That little striped thing was called a bee. They're weird little bugs, but they do sting so you have to be careful, alright?" He had to sit down next to the kit then, hoping that his rapidly lagging strength wasn't showing to the upset kit. He wanted to help him, not make things worse.

Kestrelkit 3 Moons - Tom - StoneClan Kestrelkit had squealed in complaint when Sandpaw rubbed the gross leafy stuff on his face, but it made the stinging start to subside... So his noises of protest dwindled, and he accepted the comfort the medicine cat apprentice provided with his tail draped around him and the soft purring in his ears. "Bees are stupid," Kestrelkit sniffed, looking mutinously at the wildflowers that surrounded them. "I want to stay with Meadowkit," he added suddenly. "Make sure she doesn't get stung too. Is she getting better yet? And what about my mom?"
"What's going on?"
His father's voice cut through the sounds of coughing and wheezing just behind them. Kestrelkit's ears swiveled forward, and the kitten hurried out of Sandpaw's gentle embrace, reporting the day's events. "I got bit by a bee! I wasn't doing anything and it just bit me in the face, and then Sandpaw rubbed plants on it." Kestrelkit's head swung back to look at Sandpaw in thanks, but his attention span was as fleeting as a dragonfly, there one minute, gone the next.
"Meadowkit and mom are still sick." He added sadly, sobering up. "I want to go home. Can we go home soon?"
Eagletalon had brought fresh prey with them, and he nudged over a mouse for Kestrelkit and a plump finch for Sandpaw. "Share that with your sister and mother. I want to talk to Sandpaw for a moment." The scarred warrior looked at the medicine cat apprentice, smiling grimly.
He caught Kestrelkit still watching him, and gave a commanding flick of his tail. Go on.
Kestrelkit grumbled under his breath and picked up the mouse, bringing it to his sister and mother. "Dad brought food. Can you eat it, Meadowkit?" With care, Kestrelkit bit into the mouse, pulling off a piece of the meat and setting it gingerly near her mouth. "Go on. It's good. Really." Please get better... Meadowkit 3 Moons - She-Kit - StoneClanThe young calico cat was asleep once more, her breathing heavy as her tiny body struggled to get enough air in her lungs and even in her fever clouded state, she could still make out the voices of Sandpaw and Kestrelkit and then the wonderful deep voice of Eagletalon as he spoke to the medicine cat apprentice.
Her eyes remained closed as a familar scent broke through the sharp tang of illness that surrounded both Meadowkit and her mother. After a few seconds and a great deal of effort the young calico opened her pale green eyes to meet the concerned gaze of her brother, smiling weakly the female kept her attention on her sibling.
Meadowkit knew that the both of the tom's in her family seemed to stand guard of the mother and daughter duo at all times, even when Aunt Dawnblossom kicked them out.
When Kestrelkit attempted to shove a mouse under her nose, Meadowkit turned her head and scrunched up her nose in distaste before coughing into her side.
" I... I'm... noo...not ..hungry" She mewed softly. She just wanted to sleep, recover from the illness that sapped her energy and caused her to want to just say curled into her mother all day.
However the kitten knew that if she didn't eat something Kestrelkit would refuse to leave until she did.Slowly the female reached out and nibbled the mouse, hoping that it would satisfy her brother enough.
"If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try."

Duskflower Queen of StoneClan
Normally the sound of so many cats around wouldn't have roused Duskflower, but she was just so tired lately. Her entire body hurt from all the coughing and she was exhausted from worrying about her family so much. She heard the exclamation from Kestrelkit, but could only manage to lift her head up slightly before she laid it back down at the warm tones of Sandpaw coming to take care of things. She raised her head again when Meadowkit moved a bit and shifted against her. She purred weakly and licked the top of the kit's head when she noticed her taking a few bites of food. That was good, she needed her strength.
Duskflower knew she needed her strength as well but couldn't bring herself to do more than sniff at the offered food as her body rebelled against it. Her head felt like led and even Meadowkit's soft weight against her was almost too much for her to handle with how hot her body felt. It was like her skin was too tight around her bones and she didn't like it. She knew that at least her mate and one of her kits had begun to recover from this horrible illness and for that she was distantly glad. Then suddenly her energy was spent again and she put her head back down, curling her long tail around Meadowkit and letting unconsciousness claim her once more. Anywhere you go let me go too. That's all I ask of you. Notes // Tags // Words
SandpawMedicine Cat Apprentice of StoneClanSandpaw quietly watched as Kestrelkit was sent off by Eagletalon and he knew the Warrior wanted to speak with him privately. Taking a deep breath to steady himself once more, he turned tired eyes on the older tom and once Kestrelkit was out of range, he wasted no time. "You had something to speak to me about?" Green eyes turned towards where Duskflower rested with Meadowkit and he knew he looked as deeply concerned as Eagletalon must feel about the pair.
Forcing his face back to calm, he turned his gaze back to Eagletalon and waited patiently to see what he wanted. If he was honest with himself, and he often was, he missed his mother desperately now that he was so sick himself. He knew it was silly as he was an Apprentice now and to the Medicine Cat to boot, but he couldn't help but feel that his mother Silverglade would make him feel better like she always had.
He wanted to curl up next to her and have her wrap her fluffy tail around him while she told stories of StarClan and the adventures she'd been on before he'd been born. Realizing his mind was drifting again he mentally cursed and again made himself focus on his companion. ## @@ Tags: Fawn @kahani

Kestrelkit 3 Moons - Tom - StoneClan I got her to eat! Kestrelkit felt a surge of pride as he watched his sister take a small bite of the morsel. Even he knew at 3 moons that a cat needed more food than that to survive, but he felt like maybe... maybe she was going to be okay. "Sleep now, okay Meadowkit? You'll be better soon, and we can play again." He touched his nose to his sister's ear. Turning a hopeful gaze upon Duskflower, he brought over a morsel for her too, gently nudging his mother's cheek with his nose. "Food, mom. Please eat it."
But Duskflower did no more than shift a little at his touch, and Kestrelkit's heart fell to the bottom of his chest. Anxious, the young beige-colored kitten went to his mother's belly and gently kneaded, watching to see if she would respond to the gesture. But she didn't. Instead, she felt hot to the touch, and Kestrelkit backed away, concern making his tail bushy. I-I should tell Sandpaw.
With a quiet, anxious gulp, Kestrelkit turned to approach the medicine cat's apprentice, and saw that Sandpaw was still talking to Eagletalon. Curious, Kestrelkit lowered his body to the ground and crept closer, his ears pricked to pick up their words as he hid in a clump of weeds. 74 Moons // Tom // Senior Warrior // StoneClan "I need to know, Sandpaw," said Eagletalon, his voice grave. "Is Duskflower dying? And..." Anguish crossed the scarred warrior's face, and for the moment, he looked far older and more tired than he ever had before. "And Meadowkit?" He needed to know. He needed to prepare Kestrelkit for saying goodbye. For life after the loss of his mother and sister so young.
He needed to prepare himself for this, too. They had been mates scarcely longer than Meadowkit and Kestrelkit had been alive; it was too soon to lose her, but he knew the world did not care about things like that. This was a painful, heart-achingly painful reminder that it isn't how much time you have, but how you choose to spend it.
Eagletalon gazed forlornly to where his family lay, and he listened with a dry, tightening throat to their heavy coughing. He wouldn't wish this feeling on anyone. The sense of dread. The sheer weight of worry threatening to crush him to dust. Eagletalon wanted to go to her, lay down next to her and claw the sickness away. But this was not an enemy he could fight.
This was not a battle he could fight for her, though he'd gladly trade places if it meant their kits would grow up with their mother.
And little Meadowkit... She'd stolen his heart the moment she'd been born, a tiny scrap of calico fur that had no sooner squeaked her first word as she'd wrapped him around her paw. Eagletalon's gaze swung back to Sandpaw. He would do anything to save them. Anything. But sometimes that wasn't enough.

SandpawMedicine Cat Apprentice of StoneClanGreen eyes widened slightly at the question presented to him and the vulnerable emotions he could see in the eyes of the Warrior that had asked it. He looked back towards the den that held the pair in question, considering everything he knew. His ears tilted forwards and backwards and he listened intently to something only he could hear before turning his gaze back to the distraught frame of Eagletalon. Taking a deep breath he forced his fever-hazed mind to clear and offered the gentle words he knew were needed. "Meadowkit shows all the signs of moving over the worst of her illness. She's tired, but that's expected. She seems to be taking well to the treatments we've been giving her."
He took a deep breath, gaze travelling back to where he knew the larger frame of Duskflower rested. She worried him with her fever refusing to break like it was. She wasn't coughing much anymore, which was a good thing, but the fever...Deciding to be positive and share that with the worried Eagletalon, he turned a gentle smile to the Warrior. "Neither of them are going to die, Eagletalon. Your girls are both very strong and you just need to have faith in them; I do. Duskflower is weak now, and her fever hasn't broken yet, but she's already much better than she was before. And I think..." He considered the Warrior seriously for a long moment, looking for all the world like he might say something was really wrong with the queen and he was just trying to be positive.
Instead though, he gave a gentle purr and nudged Eagletalon with his tail. His words were soft and full of reassurance. "I think you should go and lay with her for a bit. She may not like the extra heat with her fever like it is, but I'm sure she'll find comfort in being close to you again. And the extra body heat will help break her fever. You can tell Kestrelkit that too, I know he wants to help her feel better too, after all. And the next time she's awake make sure to get her some water. Even if she doesn't eat, so long as she keeps drinking like she has I know it's only a matter of time before the four of you will be heading back home to continue living your lives as you're meant to."
He meant his words to, and his tone said that he had faith that things would come to pass just as he'd said they would. The family wouldn't be broken apart anytime soon; at least, not by this. No one but StarClan knew what the future held, but at least in this Sandpaw was glad to be able to offer much needed reassurance to a Warrior that had helped him more than he'd ever know. ## @@ Tags: Fawn @kahani

Meadowkit 3 Moons - She-Kit - StoneClanThe young she kit was just finishing her last nibble of mouse when her mother had licked her head, an attempt to comfort her offspring before the queen wrapped her tail around the young calico kit and drifted back off to sleep, Meadowkit yawned, a slight cough echoed from her chest but it was not nearly as bad as it had been. Lifting her head just slightly to look at her sibling Meadowkit offered him a small purr of appreciation.
"Kestrelkit, please come snuggle with me" She mewed at her brother softly, no longer did she care for Aunt Dawnblossom's restrictions. The young cat wanted her brother, her litter mate and her best friend to be there with her. She felt bad enough, spreading her illness to her mother and she wanted .... no needed the comforting words of her sibling, he knew she blamed herself for what happened to Duskflower. The young kit could only look at her mother with watery eyes. This was all her fault and she had no clue how to fix it.
If she was completely honest, she had missed her brother and father, probably as much as they missed her. The young female was not blind, in the short times she had been awake while in the den,she has seen the worry in her father's eyes each time he came in to see them, the heartbreak he must feel looking at his mate, the kit's mother laying there, battling an enemy that none could see and none could fight for her.
"If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try." Meadowkit is starting to feel a little bitter and the guilt sets in. 288

Kestrelkit 3 Moons - Tom - StoneClan Kestrelkit's legs shook, feeling a strange kind of light-headedness as Sandpaw's words washed over him. Creeping out from his hiding place, he sneaked back to Meadowkit's side in time to hear her soft mew. With a new sense of hope like a beam of sunlight keeping his heart warm, Kestrelkit wriggled against Duskflower's belly, curled up next to Meadowkit. "You'll be better soon, Meadowkit. Sandpaw said so."
Kestrelkit touched his nose to his mother's fur, breathing in her comforting scent. "You too, mom. Then we can go home." Without meaning to, the tabby tom placed his tail over his sister's back, a protective gesture as if he could shield her from getting sicker.
He wasn't very sleepy, but he managed to lie still. A normally fidgety kitten, Kestrelkit could sense that Meadowkit and Duskflower both needed him to be well behaved right now. They were sick, they needed rest. Eagletalon would insist he needed rest too. Still feeling the heat from his mother's body, Kestrelkit gave her pretty calico fur a few concerned licks. Laugh at yourself first, before anyone else can. 169 Words || @kahani Silver || Notes
74 Moons // Tom // Senior Warrior // StoneClan Gradually, that tight, uncomfortable weight in Eagletalon's chest began to loosen. Like a boulder that was now crumbling, its strength gone, he was able to take a deep breath, letting it out slowly in a relieved exhale. "Thank you, Sandpaw. I trust you." Who knew he would one day have placed the lives of his family in this young loner-born tom's paws? Eagletalon rested his tail on Sandpaw's shoulder, seeing the fatigue written in the ginger face of the medicine cat apprentice. "Thank you for not giving up on them. Take care of yourself too, understand? We can't have you collapsing from working so hard. I'll bring you water too."
It was the least he could do. The absolute least. Eagletalon looked past Sandpaw then, seeing his kits snuggled against their mother as if they were newborns again, and the scene looked so heartbreakingly peaceful, his paws were pulled towards them of their own free will.
Eagletalon, gently purring, rubbed his cheek against the top of Duskflower's head before settling in behind her. He leaned over her flank to lick each kit on the ears, and made sure they heard his warm purrs. The fear had not fully retracted its claws from his heart, but Eagletalon felt like he could sleep without nightmares now. He wasn't going to lose them.
They were strong. He shouldn't underestimate Duskflower, and especially not Meadowkit. She was a mix of both of them, after all. It would take a lot to keep his daughter down. Eagletalon did not close his eyes right away; instead, he rested his head on his paws, listening as his family's breathing began to take on that deep, even rhythm of slumber.
He would fetch water for all of them - Duskflower, Meadowkit, Kestrelkit, Sandpaw - as soon as they woke up. --- Word Count: 300ish Tags: Silver @kahani Notes: Thread finished?
