LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun Thornpaw had been an apprentice for all of two days; and what a hectic two days that had been. Lionstar found himself busier than ever; when he wasn't pulling his weight by hunting for the Clan, he was keeping everyone calm, checking in with Skyfall often to maintain peace and stability. The Clan was like a hive full of nervous bees; they were getting snippy with each other, worried mothers snapping at warriors who said the wrong thing at the wrong time.
It was a lot to deal with, but Lionstar had faced much worse than this. TreeClan had faced much worse than this.
Unfortunately, that meant Thornpaw's training had been... slightly neglected. He had taken time to speak to Thornpaw about the finer points of the Warrior Code -- which was about as exciting as a clump of toadstools -- but that was all he could manage until things calmed down a little.
Lionstar led the young tabby tom out of camp, trying not to feel like he was making the wrong choice by leaving the vicinity, even if it was for something as normal and necessary as training his own apprentice. Of course, two days ago, if he'd known what was going to happen, he might've given Thornpaw to a cat with more free time on their paws.
Regardless, Lionstar knew his duties. And he knew a bored kitten was going to get into more trouble than any one Clan needed.
"We have a lot of ground to cover. Drink as much as you need to," mewed the large golden tom over the low murmur of the sparkling brook. "We'll be following the brook to the shallow marshes, all the way to our border with NightClan." Lionstar wanted Thornpaw to be fully aware of the boundaries that existed in their territory before he started educating him on the more specific landmarks, such as the Great Maple or the Wildflower Clearing.
A flash of ginger-and-white fur caught Lionstar's eye a moment before the scent hit him.
Finchpaw?
"Thornpaw!" Chirped the apprentice from the other side of the brook. Lionstar's ears flattened in dismay, his voice sharp. "Finchpaw! What are you doing? Why aren't you in the hidden thicket?"
"Bluejay said I was healthy again. She told me to go home!" Finchpaw did look better. The color was back in his eyes, and he looked alert. Like any young tom his age should.
Lionstar allowed himself a purr of relief. "Is that so? And what about Zephyrfang?"
Finchpaw made a face. "He's started coughing after we got there, but he'll be back soon too. Told me to head to the brook, I could find my way home from there if I just followed my nose."
That was good news. Surely if there had been deaths, Finchpaw would've mentioned them. How's Honeysong? Lionstar longed to ask this, but favoritism would hardly be appropriate. Instead, he was faced with a decision; bring Finchpaw with them on the territory exploration, or let the tom hurry home to greet his mother.
Finchpaw might cause a ruckus if he showed up by himself. Lionstar beckoned the apprentice to them. "Come with us, Finchpaw. Gorsetail has his paws full, you can join in Thornpaw's training today." Take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem

SOME LEGENDS ARE TOLD, SOME TURN TO DUST OR TO GOLDThoRnpaW 6 Moons || Tom || TreeClan The tabby tom kit practically skipped behind his mentor and Clan leader as they maneuvered the territory. When Lionstar had divulged what their plan for the day was, Thornpaw had immediately rushed off to tell Silentsong. And tell her he did. Four times. This was it, real training. None of that stupid Warrior Code stuff or whatever that Lionstar had introduced him to the day before. Sure, he knew it was important, but all he'd done was sit around! That was boring, and stupid. He wanted to run, he wanted to see stuff, fight stuff! That was what being a warrior meant.
Completely oblivious to Lionstar's inner turmoil, Thornpaw's amber eyes took in everything the moment they stepped out of the camp entrance. This was further than he'd ever gone before. Finchpaw had even been further by this point, though he had been ill. Which was not good. Of that, he was certain. But come on! TreeClan was amazing! Curious eyes roved over the trunks of trees that reared high above his head, Thornpaw forced to crane his neck and step a little awkwardly in hopes of seeing just a little bit more of those monster trees.
Lionstar's voice roused him from his wonder, gaze focusing on the stream trickling by. Ears pricking in interest, Thornpaw bounded forward eagerly and ducked down to lap at the cold water. His long whiskers dipped into the stream, and when he lifted his head, little droplets of it spattered to the ground below. Thornpaw grinned widely, sharing a private joke with himself. It didn't last long, however, for his head shot up in alarm as a very familiar voice called his name. "Finchpaw!" The tabby tom-kit cried out excitedly, moving to tackle his brother to the ground. Lionstar's sharp voice froze him to the spot, dubious amber eyes shifting to stare at the TreeClan figurehead.
As his brother explained Bluejay had given him the all clear, Thornpaw bounced on his toes, tail raised triumphantly above him as he lunged forward to nose his brother. "I knew you'd be okay! You're strong, like dad and ma!" Thornpaw frowned momentarily hearing that Zephyrfang was now ill, glancing off in some direction he figured might be the Hidden Thicket. Finding confidence to reassure himself that their father would also pull through, Thornpaw allowed his grin to return with more intensity when Lionstar invited Finchpaw to join them.
"Aw Finchpaw, this is going to be great! Lionstar is taking me, taking us around the territory. It was going to be cool, but with you? It's going to be awesome!" He stepped from one paw to the other in a nonsensical pattern, eyes flicking to his mentor. "All the way to the NightClan border, right Lionstar?" He purred, butting his brother's shoulder with his head. BUT YOU WILL REMEMBER ME FOR CENTURIES ~460 words Fawn Thorn is adorable XD

LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun With two young toms possessing boundless energy each, Lionstar had given himself a challenging task this morning. Keeping Thornpaw's attention on the lesson while his brother was nearby wasn't going to be easy; Finchpaw, likewise, had a mind and spirit of his own. Lionstar already kept a sharp eye on both.
After Finchpaw had drank from the sparkling brook, Lionstar set off at a brisk pace down river, engaging the ginger brother in conversation. "How are our Clanmates doing?" Clearly he meant the ones in the hidden thicket.
Some of Finchpaw's enthusiasm ebbed a bit, sobering up in the face of a serious inquiry from his leader. "Some bad. Some good. A few are recovering quickly like me. The medicine cats are everywhere at once. Dad's trying to help where he can."
Lionstar nodded slowly, processing this information. "Good. Now you two, pay attention to your surroundings, this is a different terrain than what you're used to." As if on cue, the ground beneath their paws began to get sodden, the shallow marsh retaining water on all but the driest of greenleaf days. The snow-melt that came with newleaf was still keeping the marsh partially flooded, and Lionstar couldn't resist the opportunity to give the kits something to think about.
"Watch where you step. The higher the water, the more leeches you'll find." Leeches were about as fond of cats as birds were, but Lionstar didn't bother clarifying. The youngsters could probably still find one if they looked, but it wouldn't take much interest. Both had too much fur, even on their underbellies.
It was a long trek to the NightClan border, and Lionstar slowed several times to make sure his little group was keeping up. Finchpaw reached drier land and gave himself a good shake. "Jeez, why is it so far? Are you sure we're not in NightClan? It smells weird here."
"What you're smelling is the muddy pools of their territory. That sharp odor underneath is NightClan. Commit it to memory, because if you encounter that scent on our side of the border, then something's gone amiss." Lionstar studied the dark swath of pines, gazing at the way their two forests collided. It was a trick of the light, and more than likely his habit of associating NightClan with unpleasant things, but the pine forest looked... cold, uninviting, compared to their own woodlands of aspen, maple and oak. "Thornpaw. What can you tell me about NightClan?" Mewed Lionstar, putting the tabby tom on the spot. Take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem

SOME LEGENDS ARE TOLD, SOME TURN TO DUST OR TO GOLDThoRnpaW 6 Moons || Tom || TreeClan A mix of earthy grass and water seeped between his toes, quick to fill all the gaps it could find. With this tongue sticking out the left side of his mouth, Thornpaw pulled a face that could only be called ridiculous. Until Lionstar mentioned the leeches. Tabby ears shot forward, a wicked curiosity flickering through those amber eyes. And just as quickly as it had come, it was gone. Lionstar's jewel of an information drop was safely stored away in the stone trap that was his mind, for use at his convenience. Unfortunately for the rest of TreeClan, his convenience was usually at inopportune moments for others.
Lionstar was speaking again, and Thornpaw figured he should listen. If he was lucky, this wouldn't be as boring as the Warrior Code talk he'd received yesterday. Keeping his tail raised and clear of the muddy ground, Thornpaw plodded through, glancing at his mentor every now and again. I wonder if I could get all of him if I jumped... He mused, imagining the wave of mud that would spew from under his paws if he leapt right now. Of course, Lionstar was pretty big; lot of fluff to cover. He might have better luck with Finchpaw.
And... He'd forgotten to listen. Mind scrambling to piece together bits of what he'd half-heard, Thornpaw blinked his amber eyes at the TreeClan figurehead. Muddy pools. NightClan. Bad smell. Should not be in TreeClan. Eh, close enough. Dragging his gaze to the territory he could see looming behind Lionstar, the tabby tom-kit's tail waved thoughtfully, a gesture strangely reminiscent of his mother. The cheeky grin that split his features soon after, however, was definitely his father's. "You mean other than they live right over there?" Hearing Finchpaw stifle a laugh, Thornpaw grinned innocently at Lionstar. Yes, it was complete with flattened ears.
"I think Gorsetail and Feathercloud told us some stories about NightClan. Don't they like... Do stuff at night? Kinda like TreeClan but nightier. And smellier." BUT YOU WILL REMEMBER ME FOR CENTURIES ~320 words Fawn Lionstar, you poor chap

LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun "Don't they like... Do stuff at night? Kinda like TreeClan but nightier. And smellier."
Like TreeClan but nightier. StarClan help me, thought the golden tom, three parts irritated, one part exasperated. Once upon a time, he was Thornpaw - cracking jokes and showing off to keep his friends (and the she-cat he'd liked) entertained. Thornpaw had a permanent audience in his brother, Finchpaw, which meant this young tom was going to be incorrigible if he kept them together.
This is the last time, for a little while. He wanted Thornpaw to focus, engage his obviously witty mind in a way that proved constructive. For TreeClan, not just Thornpaw's circle of friends. "Yes, NightClan is nocturnal. Try again, Thornpaw." Intending to push him, Lionstar wanted to see what Thornpaw really knew if he gave it serious thought.
Able to see how Thornpaw and Finchpaw had embodied qualities of both their parents, Lionstar couldn't remain agitated for long. They were good apprentices - when they weren't getting into trouble. Fortunately, Lionstar was confident that he could bring Thornpaw to adulthood with a stronger sense of boundaries and respect for the Code than Zephyrfang ever had.
Did Thornpaw even know who the leader and deputy of NightClan was? Lionstar considered that necessary information. Identifying the high ranking cats in each Clan was a good starting point for learning more about their neighbors. If Thornpaw did not, and was humble enough to say so, Lionstar was happy to enlighten him. The golden tom's gaze rested on Finchpaw briefly, letting him know wordlessly that he was free to answer if it came to him before his brother.

SOME LEGENDS ARE TOLD, SOME TURN TO DUST OR TO GOLDThoRnpaW 6 Moons || Tom || TreeClan Amber eyes landed back on the TreeClan figurehead, and the tom-kit frowned. Pulling his paws out of a rather sticky puddle of mud, Thornpaw flicked his furry tail. Sensing that his mentor was a little on the agitated side, the brown tabby Maine Coon considered tempering his comments. Yet, at the same time, that sounded so exhausting. Casting another glance toward the NightClan territory, Thornpaw started again. "Well, you know, momma never really says much to us." An amber gaze, flecked with mirth, spared a glance at the huge lion-like tom. "And pappa doesn't know as much as mamma does about the Clans."
With a flick of his paw to dislodge some mud glued to his paw pads, the young apprentice continued. "So, mamma gets Feathercloud to talk to us most times. She talks mostly about TreeClan, or StoneClan 'cause of her adventure." The silver tabby she-cat certainly liked talking, but sometimes veered off course in favor of gossip. "Feathercloud says that NightClan's leader freaks her out. Not as mean as the tiny one, R... Ravenstar? Something 'bout his eyes, I think? Haze? Nah, that's not right.." He frowned thoughtfully, his tail tip flicking above his back. "Dull... DIM! Dimstar, I think that's what she called him. Weird name, if you ask me."
A shrug of his shoulders accompanied the last piece of his statement. Beside him, Finchpaw bobbed his head, evidently agreeing with the selected name for the NightClan leader. "Don't think Feathercloud ever talked much 'bout the deputy. But... I think she said the medicine cat's been around for a bit? Fog... Mist... No, not right. Smmmmmm..... Smoke? Pelt? Coat? FUR! Yeah, prooooooobably Smokefur." BUT YOU WILL REMEMBER ME FOR CENTURIES ~260 words Fawn I have nothing to say XD

LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun On one paw, Thornpaw eventually made it to the right answer. On the other paw, Thornpaw was noisier than a flock of crows fighting over a dead squirrel. Lionstar drew in a breath, held it to a count of five, and then released it slowly. "Dimstar is NightClan's leader, Smokefur is their medicine cat, and Redcloud is their deputy. One more name to remember, and that's Shadowpaw, Smokefur's taken a new apprentice." Unless there had been any shake-ups in hierarchy between the last gathering and this morning, Lionstar was confident that his information was correct.
'Well, you know, momma never really says much to us.'
Cheeky little...
Lionstar chuffed under his breath, and signaled both toms to keep up with him as they walked the scent-border along the edge of NightClan's territory. The golden figurehead paused to renew the markings, and then addressed his dual pupils again. "You'll be getting the same question when we reach LightningClan's border, so you have plenty of time to think about your answers." Especially you, Thornpaw. Time would tell if Thornpaw chose a deliberately obnoxious answer, or if the tom could smarten up if he really felt like it. Lionstar suspected the latter, but he also kept in mind who this kit's parents were. Thornpaw and Finchpaw both seemed full of surprises, though the ginger kitten had been relatively mild-mannered thus far.
No sooner had he thought this, however, then he spotted Finchpaw trying to climb a tree that straddled the NightClan/TreeClan border.
"Finchpaw, get down," Lionstar ordered, trying not to lose his temper.
"I just want to see more of the territory!" The youngster called back.
Lionstar, remembering all too well the sickening fall of Feathercloud's apprentice, Sparrowpaw, circled at the base of the tree like a starving wolf. "Finchpaw, there's more to tree-climbing than just sinking your claws in. Get down here."
Finchpaw's tail flicked in annoyance, and Lionstar saw the young ginger tom pause, uncertain.
For the love of...
"I can't." Finchpaw called back, ears flat with embarrassment.
Lionstar rolled his eyes skyward, looking for patience, and then immediately addressed Thornpaw. "Stay here, I'll get him. Keep an eye out for a border patrol." That would be the last thing they needed right now - to be accused of spying on NightClan. Take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem

SOME LEGENDS ARE TOLD, SOME TURN TO DUST OR TO GOLDThoRnpaW 6 Moons || Tom || TreeClan The tabby Maine Coon kit puffed out his cheeks at the slightly reprimanding tone filtering into Lionstar's voice. Lush tail weaving behind him, Thornpaw trailed behind Lionstar's large frame, grumbling to himself under his breath. "Stupid NightClan... And LightningClan. With their nightiness. And lightninginess." The apprentice found himself torn between looking up at the fabulously unfamiliar territory around him (it was awesome!), and staring straight down at his paws. The ground was just as unfamiliar to him as the rest of the territory, and there were so many roots! If he wasn't careful, he'd find himself tripping over one of them.
Wouldn't that be something, a TreeClan cat, bested by a tree of all things. That would be like... A LightningClan cat getting struck by lightning. But worse, because lightning wasn't all that common, and he had a feeling it was difficult to predict where lightning would strike. A tree on the other hand, weeeell. They didn't move. So, yeah, him tripping over a tree would be way worse than a LightningClanner having the misfortune to get struck by light- GREAT MOTHER OF STARCLAN! Thornpaw nearly jumped out of his fur as Lionstar's command ripped through his train of thought.
Blinking his amber eyes and struggling to refocus himself, Thornpaw finally caught sight of just what had pissed Lionstar off. Plopping his rump down, if only to get a better view, the dark brown tabby brother titled his muzzle upward to watch as his sibling rather awkwardly scaled a tree. Lionstar said something about keeping an eye out, but the tabby kitten was too wrapped up in his brother's escapade to pay it much attention. It was for this reason Thornpaw missed the appearance of a ginger tabby tom on the opposite border. The NightClanner blinked twice, evidently at a loss for words.
The NightClan tom didn't announce his presence; evidently, he was aware of the concentration required in this situation to ensure the safety of all parties involved. Something the grounded, younger tom did not. "Just because your name is Finchpaw, doesn't mean you can fly! Mamma's gonna kill you if she hears of this!" BUT YOU WILL REMEMBER ME FOR CENTURIES ~330 words Fawn -facepalm-

FinchpawFinchpaw flexed his claws deep into the bark of the tree, looking over the land. A small breeze caught in the leaves of the tree, encroaching over both Treeclan and Nightclan territory, and for a second Finchpaw felt truly alive. The wind through his thick fur rustled all of his organs, so many of which were telling Finchpaw that this wasn't the place for cats, and yet his heart told him that this was the true taste of Freedom.
Finchpaw let out a loud howl, swatting a paw in the air as if to mimic flapping wings. "Thornpaw, you need to feel this, I feel like a hawk. I'm unstoppable!" This sentiment however was sobered instantaneously as Finchpaw slipped slightly, sobering his mind.
His big ears flattened against his head and the tom readjusted, uneasily flexing his claws as deep into the bark as they would go. After a few deep breathes and hearing Lionstar's commands, Finchpaw slowly started trying to descend. He moved his front paws down first into the soft bark, confident for a a moment, stopping dead in his tracks as he tried to readjust his back legs.
Fear suddenly overtook the large apprentice and he found himself bolted to the tree; a shiver ran up his spine setting his hairs on end. He sat there for a moment, ears flat, and his flanks hot with embarrassment. What if I fall? What if I die? If I die mom is going to kill me.
He sat for a moment still before looking down at his brother and Lionstar, making notice for the first time of the new arrival. Suddenly he felt even more embarrassed and without thinking he slightly loosened his grip on the tree. Finchpaw slid down the tree at an alarming rate, unable to drive his claws back into the tree, the tom simply closed his eyes and clenched his jaw, waiting for the end. I guess mom can't kill me if I'm already dead.
Finchpaw made a quick prayer to Starclan and had accepted his fate, just as he encountered one of the heavier lower branches of the tree. The thud of the impact sent a pang of pain through the tom's body but for the most part his was in one piece. Looking down, Finchpaw assessed the distance between himself and the ground and prepared to pounce to the ground, with a loud howl.
He landed with an awkward thud and mew of pain, and brushing them both off as best as he could he turned to Lionstar. "See? I'm the greatest tree climber there ever was. I'll probably be a better warrior than Thornpaw too." He shot his brother a quick glance, followed by a sheepish smirk, forgetting the Nightclan cat in an attempt to one up his brother in front of their leader.

LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun The sheer recklessness of Finchpaw made the hairs on Lionstar's neck stand out, his mane made full by indignation - and horror when the youngster plummeted to the ground. Fully prepared to catch Finchpaw or at least break his fall, Lionstar had placed two enormous front paws on the tree, gripping, his hind legs tensed to throw himself vertically up the trunk.
Before he could mount a proper rescue, Finchpaw was, again, taking matters into his own paws. The ginger apprentice hit one of the lowest boughs with an uncomfortable thud, howled more for bravery's sake than pain (he hoped), and leaped down the remaining distance to the ground.
Lionstar's teeth showed as he spoke, appearing larger and broader of shoulder when agitated. "Don't ever do that again. Finchpaw, Thornpaw. Both of you look at me. You do not climb trees until you've properly learned how. I have seen apprentices fall and break their legs. And worse. You were very lucky, Finchpaw. StarClan spared you once." Don't tempt fate again.
Irritated enough to call the territory exploration over, he forced his bristling neck-fur to lie flat, turning a peeved eye into the pine forest just across the scent line. He caught glimpses of an audience - a ginger warrior with short fur, and a black warrior with semi-long fur. The ginger warrior looked blank, but the black furred warrior was openly smirking, a gloat in her leaf-green eyes.
There was something very familiar about her, but Lionstar gave it no more thought. Instead, he turned a cold shoulder and nudged both toms ahead of him. Maybe if he kept both eyes on them this time, he could prevent further catastrophe.
The most annoying part about that near-scare, was that he was not confident Finchpaw or Thornpaw had really gotten the message. He knew what kind of apprentices they were; they had to touch a thorn bush before they knew well enough to stay away from it - regardless of anyone else's words. Lionstar began to walk off the tension, watching Finchpaw for signs of injury.
"Our border with NightClan is called the deer path." Lionstar sniffed the ground, looking for tracks in the trodden grass. "These are deer tracks. They're large hoofed animals. Too big for a cat to catch. Demon, the lynx in the mountains, is the only thing that hunts them. They won't hurt you if you give them their space." Half anticipating Finchpaw to proclaim that he could hunt a deer, Lionstar's tail flicked, but he gave the tom a chance to surprise him with an intelligent question. Take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem

SOME LEGENDS ARE TOLD, SOME TURN TO DUST OR TO GOLDThoRnpaW 6 Moons || Tom || TreeClan For one horrifyingly long moment, Thornpaw's heart leapt into his throat. He dropped to his paws, staggering slightly as he could do nothing but watch the orange-furred streak that was his brother plummet through the air. If he could remember how to breathe, Thornpaw might have thought to shut his eyes and turn away, to avoid seeing the impending thud. But all he could do was watch, until Finchpaw collided with a larger tree bough, slowing his descent. The dark brown tabby kitten flinched, shaken out of his stupor enough to bound forward a paw step or two, wanting to make sure his brother was actually okay.
Lionstar's booming voice was enough to momentarily stall the darker kitten, ears flashing backward as his motion faltered. His tail, usually as boisterous as it was lush, stilled completely and amber eyes were cast quickly to the ground. Figuring it was best not to say anything right then, Thornpaw pressed his teeth together to determinedly stay quiet, falling into step with his brother and letting their pelts brush together. The Clan leader continued, voice tight but refocused on the lesson. At the mention of the hoofed animals, Thronpaw's dark ears pricked forward and his eyes brightened.
"Deer! Their babies are what Fawnpaw is named after, right? Skyfall says they're really fast and nimble, just like Fawnpaw! She's so light-footed and graceful, that's why I call her Fawnstep when we play Fall of NightClan." He stopped a moment, amber eyes flashing to Finchpaw. "Maybe I should start calling you Finchfall instead." A cheeky smirk rippled over the young tom's features, the apprentice dropping into a playful crouch, complete with a wriggle of his haunches and a flick of his extravagant tail. Let's start a riot tonight, A pack of lions tonightFinchpaW 6 Moons || Tom || TreeClan Finchpaw found himself in silence as Lionstar scorned him, biting back him remarks fiercely. As much as it pained the tom to stay silent he managed for a moment, his breathing still shallow and uneasy after the stumble he had just partaken in.
The apprentice tried to focus as Lionstar spoke, absorbing the information that he was presented with. For a brief second the tom found himself admiring the deeply trodden path, looking over the hoof prints with a certain awe dancing through his amber eyes. The silence, brought on by marvel, was only short, and just as Finchpaw was ready to ask the Treeclan leader more about deer he heard Thornpaw speak.
Finchpaw swerved, his sights narrowing on his brother as he listened to him fawn over Fawnpaw. He rolled his eyes slightly, pawing the trodden ground with his slightly sore claws, his tail flicking back and forth in mild annoyance. Things had always been better for Thornpaw and Finchpaw before Fawnpaw. But now, he often found his brother lost in his thoughts of the she-cat, she had truly already poisoned his mind with her elegant she-cat wiles.
The apprentice was about to reply, ready to shut down his brother incessant Fawnpaw rambling, when Thornpaw's attention turned on him. For a second, he held his stare with his brother's, however as soon as Thornpaw spoke, Finchpaw broke his amber eyes off of his brothers, protest growling in his chest.
He looked over at Lionstar, almost apologetically, before returning to Thornpaw, "I mean, It doesn't have the worst ring to it. And I mean, at least I'd be a warrior, I can't say the same for you, forever Thornpaw." The apprentice let out a devious purr as the words dripped off his tongue, returning his brother's crouch, threatening to bowl him over, as they had often done for play as kits. LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun He had to remind himself they were fresh out of the nursery. Fall of NightClan. Lionstar smirked faintly (and when they weren't looking at him), as he thought of a particularly runty black and white she-cat, NightClan's former matriarch. He would have loved that game as a kit, though he had gotten very good at in his adult moons, if NightClan's cautious silence was anything to go by.
It had been a long time since their shadowy neighbors had bothered them.
Half-listening to the toms' bickering, Lionstar his gaze locked onto Finchpaw, watching the ginger kitten take up a playful stance. He seemed intent upon causing more trouble, even with stinging paws. Heh. At that age, a wounded pride hurt worse. He would know. He'd been... somewhere in between Finchpaw and Thornpaw as Lionpaw, a fierce, arrogant, fat-headed tom who wanted to be the best warrior StarClan had ever sense.
What had always motivated him, however, was a cleverer mentor, Sagefur, who knew precisely what to say to keep him focused. He challenged him, both mentally and physically, and Lionstar always counted his lucky stars that he had been given a mentor who actually knew what to do with him. Someone with wisdom and experience to pass on.
Now, as he cast a critical eye over Thornpaw and Finchpaw, his expression calm, he realized it was his turn to be the 'clever mentor'. "I'll make you two a deal. If you can pay attention long enough for us to reach the LightningClan border, I'll show you how to renew the scent markers. Then LightningClan will have two new future warriors to worry about." That would appeal to Finchpaw, at least. Finchpaw was the more antagonistic of the two; Thornpaw joked, and laughed, but it was the ginger tom who was hot-headed and stubborn.
He would make sure they didn't so much as set one whisker across that border. "Come on. Prove you can keep up - and keep quiet. If you disturb anyone else's hunting, I'll let you both explain to the elders why their bellies are empty." While he could not scent anyone nearby, Lionstar put stock in his empty threat. They were young enough that they could not scent as strongly as a warrior could, and they must have still been memorizing the different scents of their Clanmates.
The world was opening up before their very eyes, and Lionstar would play into their newness as long as necessary. Just until they wised up, and he'd have to be even more creative in how he kept Silentsong and Zephyrfang's two boys in line. Take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem

SOME LEGENDS ARE TOLD, SOME TURN TO DUST OR TO GOLDThoRnpaW 6 Moons || Tom || TreeClan "HA! As if!" He responded instantly. "I'll become a warrior before you, just watch!" He growled playfully, pouncing at his crouching brother. They tousled a moment, just like they had when growing up, two young minds still stuck in their kit-hood ways. Only StarClan knew how long they might have kept up their little play fight had it not been for Lionstar's voice suddenly cutting through the quiet air. Freezing with his jaws opened wide over Finchpaw's ear, Thornpaw's amber gaze slid over to his mentor as the tom offered them a challenge of sorts. Stepping away from Finchpaw with a final swat of a paw, the dark tabby apprentice flicked his bushy tail.
When Lionstar finished, Thornpaw couldn't help but grin as he glanced toward his brother. Finchpaw seemed to wear a similar expression, a silent question in his eyes. Whispering to the orange tabby, Thornpaw agreed. "You're so on." And then he was off, bounding to catch up to Lionstar. Just you watch, Finchpaw! He thought to himself with satisfaction. I'm going to pay so much attention, I'll put kits listening to the elders' tales to shame! Brown ears pricked toward Lionstar, the tabby tom kitten narrowing his eyes as he willed himself to pay attention. To Lionstar, to the surrounding, and especially to Finchpaw.
I'm gonna win. BUT YOU WILL REMEMBER ME FOR CENTURIES ~220 words Fawn @minxxy I'm good with ending too!

Let's start a riot tonight, A pack of lions tonightFinChpaW 9 Moons || Tom || TreeClan Finchpaw scoffed as his brother pelted himself forward, a grin creeping widely across his lips as he and Thornpaw fought playfully right on the outskirts of Treeclan territory. The apprentice could have gone on for days, relentlessly playing with his brother in hope of coming to best him once and for certain. The gloating over that kind of victory would be wonderful, he thought to himself.
And yet, as quickly as the fight started it also ended, by Lionstar's harsh words. Finchpaw instantly relented from his brother's attack, turning stoically to face the current leader, his predecessor, squarely. "Come on. Prove you can keep up - and keep quiet. If you disturb anyone else's hunting, I'll let you both explain to the elders why their bellies are empty." Finchpaw focused in on Lionstar, dismissing Thornpaw with a quickly flick of his ears and a fluff of his ginger fur.
The apprentice was very innately focused on the task ahead, unwilling to let his brother's words get the best of him. Finchpaw simply nodded and followed after Lionstar, trying to pass off the awkward tree incident, he would for certain have to reevaluate trees at a later date. For the moment however, time passed like liquid around the apprentice, letting the rush of greenleaf fill his lungs, and send his body into a sense of exhilaration as he focused on reaching the Lightningclan border.
In this world he who stops won't get anything he wants #258 Fawn BlooRey DVD I'm cool with ending <3
