Berrypaw & Amara "The border is right ahead right?" Was the soothing voice of Amara the tom beside her limped heavily but managed to nod. Berrypaw was finally strong enough to travel back to TreeClan after spending a good moon of life yowling in pain and waiting for his wounds to heal. Amara had did her best to tend to the black tom-cat but there was little she could do. She didn't know how to heal, which explained Berrypaw's current condition.
His left hind leg was scarred and fur hadn't fully grown back yet. Memories of the attack were fuzzy but Berrypaw had a good idea that Demon had swung him about by that leg. Berrypaw still winced with every few pawsteps because of the pain but it was getting better. What he needed was time. Amara turned to look back at him. The russet coated she-cat was a gift from StarClan as far as Berrypaw was concerned. She had saved him from Demon's foul mouth by coming to his rescue. She claimed that Demon had tossed him into a thicket near his den and she heard Berrypaw's yowl and without fear rushed to help him.
Berrypaw made few memories of the early days in Amara's care. The she-cat had used moss to give him water, brought him food when he was hungry and generally nursed him back to health but couldn't do anything for his pain. Amara offered plenty of times to carry him back to TreeClan but Berrypaw declined. Amara's den was near Demon's and that meant the lynx could be on the prowl at any moment. He didn't want to risk being caught again by him and end up getting Amara killed in the process. They had to wait until he was healed enough to move faster then a half-dead snail. That took nearly all of leafbare simply because the lack of food made growing stronger difficult.
"Can we go the entire way into camp? I don't want to wait at the border," He asked her, which she nodded in agreement. Slowing down to allow the tom to lean on her a little more, Amara walked with him into TreeClan's territory.
The walked in silence for awhile, Amara remained vigilant about the area around her. Berrypaw tried to focus on walking without limping, the more he favored the limb the worse it would become. The walk from the edge of the valley territory down into TreeClan's territory was uneventful. As the scent of home hit his nose he became more and more excited, his tail lashing happily until he saw the entrance to the camp.
Trying to run toward it, it quickly became apparent the best he could do was an awkward skipping sort of run. Amara kept close to him, nervous for being in TreeClan's territory and surprised no one had caught them. She blamed it on the fact they were returning in the early hours of evening, most likely everyone was a sleep.
"I'm back!" Berrpyaw yowled as he crashed into the camp clearing, Amara right behind him. She tensed up at the sight of various eyes poking out of the dens. This was only her third time in TreeClan's camp and she didn't feel welcome even if she was bringing home one of their Clanmates.

Now tell me all about your pain, down to the detail...
Yowling in the camp had Magpiewing jerking awake, along with many of his Clanmates. Another moment to listen made it clear they were not under attack, though some of the other warriors were murmuring about it as they stumbled from their nests, claws unsheathed and ready to fight. Magpiewing pushed past those still waking up and out of the warrior's den. A young black tom stood in the center of camp with an older she-cat. After a moment, he realized he recognized that young tom. His yellow eyes widened in surprise and he realized the Clan would be expecting quite a show from him tonight.
He took a step forward, hesitant, “... Berrypaw?” He knew it was Berrypaw, but he kept his voice carefully disbelieving. It wasn't hard at all, considering how shocked he really was that his second son still lived. How had he escaped Demon? His gaze flicked briefly to the she-cat with him. She seemed vaguely familiar, he was sure he had seen her before, but he couldn't recall her name. There were murmurs around them as the rest of the Clan began to recognize him, and he felt their eyes on his back, waiting to see how he would react to this miracle.
He stepped slowly closer, still keeping up the disbelieving act, “It really is you.... You... how are you still alive...?” He rushed the last few steps to complete the joyous reunion and pressed himself against his son's side, a purr erupting in his throat, “You're home... you're safe... thank StarClan! Your mother will be so happy.” He leaned over to rasp his tongue between Berrypaw's ears and looked around at his gathered Clanmates, appearing absolutely jubilant to any cat who saw him, “Berrypaw is alive!” He looked back down at his son once more, really looking him over, “You're hurt... someone needs to fetch Falconstorm!” He wasn't sure who, however. He would have volunteered himself, but it seemed more logical that he would want to remain with his miraculously returned son. He was sure the rest of the Clan would understand that. But whoever went would be exposing themselves to the sickness... and possibly bringing it back with them.
Don't say it's love, your fragile heart feeds my contempt.

55 Moons. Senior Warrior. TreeClan. It was the evening after the quarantine had been called. Appleshade, like so many other warriors, had run herself ragged trying to keep up with everything that had happened. Her pelt was dustier than it usually was, and Appleshade's paws ached from checking up on everyone; the emptiness of the nursery was scary. She knew Meadowleaf, their former deputy, was frightened for the health of herself and her future kits. She was ready to start kitting any day now; this greencough couldn't have come at a worse time.
There was one cat who was working even harder than she was, however, and he made it look so effortless.
Skyfall lay beside her in camp, and by mutual agreement, they were sharing tongues under the dying glow of the evening sun. She had been halfway through working a burr out of the white tom's pelt when a yowl split the air like a falling tree. Fur fluffed, she was on her paws in an instant, wide-eyed at the prospect of attack.
But instead of an enemy patrol, it was--
Berrypaw? And--"Amara!"
Appleshade looked at Skyfall's mismatched eyes, her gaze full of disbelief but relief. Magpiewing was already moving forward on stiff legs to greet his son. "Oh StarClan, it's a miracle. He looks like he's been through the dark forest and back," she mewed, heart panging greatly for the brave little tom.
Shaking off her fatigue, Appleshade hastened to greet Amara, purring and rubbing her flank briefly against the russet she-cat's. "You're here! and you brought Berrypaw home. Oh you don't know what that means to Mockingbird and Magpiewing." Her eyes were soft, moist in the evening light. Appleshade looked around for a beautiful calico in particular. "You must want to speak to Zephyrfang, hm? I'm afraid he and Finchpaw--one of his sons -- are not in camp right now. I'll explain later... but Silentsong and Thornpaw, his other son, are here!"
Hoping to catch the attention of Zephyrfang's mate or progeny, Appleshade waved her feathery, fluffy tail at the apprentices' den.

SKYFALLWhen it crumbles, we will stand TALL and face it all together
He felt guilty, making Appleshade lay outside with him. Although the sun had long since begun its slow descent across the sky, it was still warm out, bordering on too warm. When he'd seen the pretty pale-furred she-cat trudging into camp earlier that afternoon, he'd felt worry trickle through him. She looked as exhausted as he felt, and he failed to recall seeing her take a moment to rest at all today. And so he'd invited her to rest with him, but in the interest of keeping an eye on the activities of the healthy Clan cats while Lionstar rested, he'd been forced to request they remain outside the relative comfort of the warrior's den.
By some miracle, she'd agreed, and they'd settled down together to groom each other's fur. He'd been enjoying the gentle rhythm of her tongue through his fur, though his mind did wander occasionally to his apprentice. Her father had joined StarClan due to this sickness, and he worried for her. For now, she was spending time with the family she had left, and he did not want to disturb that. Part way through rasping his tongue over Appleshade's pelt to ease some of the day's stress from it, a yowl split the air.
Skyfall rose rapidly and stepped protectively out in front of her on instinct. Mismatched eyes quickly landed on the two cats who'd disturbed the quiet of the Clan, shock and something akin to disbelief filtering through him as he recognized the young, injured tom beside Zephyrfang's sister. Appleshade's recognition was quick to spark as well, the she-cat running out from behind him to greet Amara. Skyfall approached more slowly, giving Magpiewing the chance to greet his son while simultaneously assessing the situation. Magpiewing is right. He thought. Berrypaw will need a medicine cat's attention. But who will go?
Before he could say another word, a silver flash of fur materialized from the warrior's den. Feathercloud's usual spark, which she had just been recovering from the incident with LightningClan, was nowhere to be seen. Exhaustion clung to her every move, and was reflected in her once-bright blue eyes. But there was a grim defiance in them too, staring at him as though daring him to contradict the words she'd not yet spoken. "I'll go." She rasped, straightening her stance slightly. The white furred tom frowned just then, steeling his voice before meowing sternly. "Not yet." There was a warning in his eyes, before he turned to Amara, Berrypaw and Magpiewing.
"I'll fetch Lionstar. He will make the decision on how to proceed. For now, help Berrypaw into a clean nest, so that he may begin resting. Feathercloud, you are to wait here until Lionstar tells you otherwise." With that, he turned to stride to Lionstar's den, his mismatched eyes glossing over the confused tabby form of Thornpaw. The apprentice must have seen Appleshade's motioning, for he was approaching curiously, tail held high and making the tall kitten seem even larger. "Appleshade..?" He mewed, amber eyes flicking uncertainly to the unfamiliar faces.
Skyfall paused at the entrance of Lionstar's den, calling into it. "Lionstar, pardon my intrusion, but I think you need to come see this." Waiting until the TreeClan figurehead joined him, he descended back toward the grouped cats, quickly filling in the details. "Amara has reappeared with an injured Berrypaw. Magpiewing is rightfully requesting the presence of a medicine cat to tend to his wounds. Feathercloud has... Volunteered to be the one to to fetch Falconstorm in the Hidden Thicket. I thought it best you determine how to proceed in this situation." 62 Moons. TreeClan. Senior Warrior.

9 Moons. Apprentice. TreeClan.
Hearing his name Berrypaw's attention rocketed to his father. A smile warmed his dark features as he stood proudly before him. Carefully hiding his torn up back leg. It helped if he didn't move around too much. "Yep! Its me! I'm back now!" He added with a whip of his tail. Beside him Amara carefully took a few steps back. She didn't wanted to be in the reunion but instead offer a polite greeting and farewell once she got him settled. She knew her presence wasn't exactly welcomed despite the reason of her being there.
Berrypaw let a purr escape him to match his father's. It was nice to be back and not fear that he'd never see them again. Had Magpiewing been so easily surprised? Taking the credit for himself, Berrypaw busied himself with rubbing his head under his father's chin. Being reminded of the comforting scents of kithood cemented the feeling of being back at home. He could irritate his father for seasons to come!
The mention of his mother had the black tom turning to look for her. Unsure why she hadn't joined them already, his brow furrowed. Where was she? The confusion lasted as someone was told to fetch Falconstorm. Why Falconstorm? Wasn't he a warrior? Looking at all the cats gathered, Berrypaw felt the camp was lacking. Considering the time of day he expected at least ten more cats for the celebration of his return. Did something happen?
"Whats going on? Where is mom and my sisters?" He asked fixing his father with a concerned green gaze.
~
Amara had thought about just turn tail and taking off but that didn't happen. Instead her name was called prompting the she-cat to look toward Appleshade. Relaxing at the sight of the other she-cat, Amara greeted her with a short nod of her head. Accepting the praise about bringing Berrypaw back with an additional nod. "He did all the work, I just hunted for him and kept him warm. It was his strength that kept him going," She paused for a moment before offering a shy smile to Appleshade. "His spirit helped too."
Hearing the news of her brother forced the smile to fade quickly. She knew that Silentsong was pregnant and while she knew it was impossible for her to be apart of their lives, Amara still wanted to hear about them but not like this. "Is there a way for me to see either of them? I'd like to offer my support to Silentsong and to Thornpaw. If possible could you take me to see Zeyphrfang and Finchpaw?" She asked unsure if she could take no for an answer. She didn't have to listen to Clan rules. She could easily do what she wanted as long as she had a general idea where they were.
~ Berrypaw heard Skyfall insist that he'd be taken to a clean nest but he declined with a flick of his tail.
"I want to see my mother first, tell her I'm home," He told the older warrior, hiding the fact his entire body was starting to ache. The trip back home was more exhausting then he first thought, but he was determined to see her before he rested.

Falconstorm34 MOONS, MEDICINE CAT APPRENTICE OF TREECLAN He'd been resting in the medicine den, something he was forcing himself to do so as not to worry Herondive with his ragged state. He was still exhausted, but for now at least no one needed him. He had almost nodded off when someone started calling for him, startling the medicine cat apprentice onto his paws as he rushed from the den.
Berrypaw, they were saying. Mockingbird's son, presumed killed by Demon. StarClan...if the kit was alive...then that was a morale boost that TreeClan sorely needed right now. "Keep him still I'm on my way." He told the cat that had come to get him, barely paying attention to the cat as he darted back into the den to gather a few herbs for tending wounds since he didn't know what shape the youngster was in. That done the long-limbed tom made a run for it, following the commotion and the cat that had come to get him.
"I'm here, I'm here. Where is he?" The tom announced after setting down his bundle of herbs. He nudged at the group of cats, getting through them until he could look over their newly returned apprentice. "So it is true." He approached the younger tom and sniffed at his wounds, the worst of which seemed to be the mauled leg. "I want you to come to the medicine den, you need to be treated." He was lucky the limb hadn't gotten infected or simply rotted off. The limb was supporting his weight, so that was a good sign. His ears flicked again. "I'm sure someone has sent for Lionstar as well, but you are my priority young tom." He turned his gaze to Magpiewing. "I'll make sure to tell Mockingbird and Ravenpaw when I return to the quarantine zone next. I'm sure they will be thrilled." For now, though, he wanted this apprentice settled in the moss bed of the medicine den.
He'd fallen quickly into the roll as the medicine cat, the moons of training kicking in as he'd dashed about helping the clan survive this newest outbreak of greencough. This had helped him settle his nerves about his worth as a medicine cat, and taught him patience. He still hadn't learned to balance being a medicine cat and taking care of himself, but that would come with time. Right now Bluejay needed him to keep going between the two groups with herbs and other essentials and the Clan needed him to bring word of how the split family groups were faring. Overall he was running ragged, but it was worth it. Now, back to Berrypaw.

55 Moons. Senior Warrior. TreeClan. While Skyfall went to get Lionstar, Appleshade was left in the company of Amara, Berrypaw, Magpiewing and now Thornpaw. She beckoned the young tom closer, smiling between aunt and nephew. "Thornpaw, this is your brother's sister, Amara! Come say hello to your auntie!" This was a much-needed burst of good news. The pretty red-shaded warrioress nearly got whiplash, however, as she watched Falconstorm burst on the scene; where in StarClan had he been hiding? He must've been in the medicine cat's den, though the tom was going back and forth from camp to the hidden thicket so much, they were having a hard time keeping track of him.
Appleshade flashed a look of apology at Feathercloud. I'm sorry. You'll see Sprucefur soon.
Amara quickly caught her attention again, and Appleshade's tail swept around her paws, the she-cat sitting with a look of remorse. "You could go see Zephyrfang and Finchpaw, but that wouldn't be very wise. Greencough has hit us hard, so hard that a lot of the Clan has been sent to the hidden thicket to control the sickness." Her ears pinned back. "Including Zephyrfang, Finchpaw, and my brother, Sprucefur. But they're strong," Appleshade quickly countered, giving her chest fur a self-soothing couple of licks. "They'll be back in no time."
Think you're all about me but I'm all about you
blinded by the light of a new sun take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem Berrypaw was alive. A ripple of shock passed the length of Lionstar's body, and the golden tom was quickly on his paws, his plans to nap forgotten. That was nothing short of a StarClan-given miracle, he thought as they stepped out of the ancient stump and into the buzzing center of camp. There in the middle was a bedraggled looking black tom kitten, who gave off the appearance of considerable weariness. As if he'd been dragged backwards through a thornbush for the past three days. Lionstar watched then, as Falconstorm appeared, and he nodded approvingly before his gaze at last settled on Amara. It was very kind of her to have brought Berrypaw back; it was more than kind, it was a selfless act, and he was impressed by her willingness to help. "Falconstorm was nearby, thank StarClan." A glance at a familiar silver tabby warrioress told him everything he'd needed to know. Feathercloud's chance to see Sprucefur was dashed. "This is very quickly going to get overwhelming." Lionstar turned to his temporary deputy, thoughts doubling in pace to make up for this unexpected situation. "Please tell Amara that she is welcome to spend the night here, and to join our hunting party in the morning. We could use an extra set of paws, and with any luck, Zephyrfang and the others will be returning to us soon."Lionstar planned to break up the crowd by wrangling a few warriors together for a border patrol; Berrypaw clearly needed rest, Falconstorm needed space, and Amara looked uncomfortable with so many cats. leader of TreeClan 209 Words | | notes Posting Order: (to minimize confusion)Fawn Zeneka Bloodrose Heli Justice
