Moonshine 30 Moons, Queen of RainClan ❁❁❁
"Mother... Mom... why are you..? What about dad?.." The words of the young queen's son were the only thing she heard in those few seconds after hauling her fish from the water. Shook clouded her vision and she dropped the lifeless fish in surprise.
"Wrenpaw" she started, her mind working overtime to formulate a good reason as to why she was alone with a tom so soon after her mate's death and frankly it angered her, that her own son thought she may move on so quick. Just as she was about to teach her son not to assume things so quickly did Brookfall speak, weaving a tale of half truth about her teaching him a new fishing technique. Her surprise at both this lie and her son's arrival meant that the queen was as still as stone, her bright blue eyes flicking from one tom to the other.
"Wrenpaw sweetheart, what did your father say about assuming things?" Her maternal nature taking over as she wrapped her tail around her kit, reassuring him that she was here, that she would never leave him. Se recalled the countless time that Wrenpaw as a kit was told of by the late warrior for assuming things about other's, such as all Nightclan cats were traitors and foxhearts. a nasty rumour that Ashfoot had quickly smashed. He had always been so good with dealing with things that even Moonshine, with all her social skills could not.
All the queen wanted to do was pull her son close to her and nuzzle the sadness away but this was not a demon she could protect him from, grief was a battle that they both were dealing with. The queen did however, kept her distance from her baby. Wrenpaw was to much like Ashfoot, to proud to accept comfort from his mother like a hurt kitten in front of other's.
" Baby?" she questioned softly to her son, taking a step towards him as she saw the grief shine through his amber gaze. How could she have not seen it? the sadness that bought her son to seek her out to begin with and without another word Moonshine wrapped herself round her only kit and nuzzled him not really caring if he was embrassed or angry with her, he needed her. " It's okay, Mama's here, I know you miss him" she finished, before burying her head in her son's fur, almost entirely forgetting the fact that Brookfall was there.
"A mother understands what her offspring do not say."

WrenpawWrenpaw paid close attentions to the words strung together by Brookfall, His eyes narrowed on the tom, slightly distraught, as he quietly searched for words. Wrenpaw all but opened his mouth, ready to speak, when his mother interjected. Despite her kindness, his pain simply distorted the meaning of her words. Wrenpaw stiffened. "Father wouldn't be able to say anything. He's dead." His voice quivered under the heavy weight of his words, his attention off of Brookfall entirely. He shook his head, ready to flee just as his mother got closer, pulling herself in against her son. Her words fell deaf on his ears and the apprentice simply looked forward aimlessly, a new sullen storm brewing in his eyes. He lowered his gaze to the ground, standing rigid for a moment longer, as his mother cooed him as if he were still a kit. A moment passed and Wrenpaw separated from his mother, leaving the space for a cat in between the two of them. "My father is dead. My mentor is dead. And what hurts the most, mother, is that you don't seem to care." Golden eyes had glazed over with complacency as the apprentice took a deep breath, turning his attention towards Brookfall, "I'm sorry, Brookfall. "
Without apologizing to his mother, the small cat turned on his feet and left the clearing, to try and cleanse his mind of the cloud of confusion swirling his thoughts.

Brookfall 22 Moons Tom RainClan Warrior Brookfall went from participant to audience, a seamless transition as Wrenpaw all but forgot about him entirely in the face of Moonshine's efforts to provide comfort. The warrior's eyes went from mother to son, listening to the exchange - how could he not? - and reading the pain in Wrenpaw's words, as strong as an undertow the apprentice could not yet escape.
Lilygleam and Burrthorn, his own loving parents, were still alive. Brookfall couldn't fully sympathize with Wrenpaw - StarClan forbid he ever understand from personal experience - but he did understand the nature of grief. The civil war between the purists and the loyalists had given him a full education on that emotion. Wrenpaw was grieving twice over, and Brookfall watched, his mouth turned down at the corners in a thin frown as the apprentice left as abruptly as he'd arrived.
"He just needs time," Brookfall spoke gently to the queen, aware of how deep Wrenpaw's words were going to cut. "Emotional wounds take the longest to heal." Unfortunate, thought Brookfall as he gazed at Wrenpaw's retreating form. He perceives his mother's efforts to be strong as a lack of compassion.
It wasn't Brookfall's place to say, but he could not help thinking that perhaps Moonshine and Wrenpaw needed to grieve together, instead of separately and in their own way. Brookfall thought of his brother, Gorgeleap. Of the way the warrior pushed others away through a toxic combination of his words, attitude and refusal to look at anything without the lenses of a cynic. A grieving Gorgeleap...
Brookfall's expression became visibly sad, and he felt a stabbing concern in his gut for his littermate. Gorgeleap would become worse, wouldn't he? He would retreat into himself, unless Brookfall and the rest of their siblings refused to let him sink further out of reach.
"Go after him," said the warrior suddenly, changing his initial stance. "I'll bring the fish back to camp. Good luck, Moonshine."
In spite of the drenching, he had enjoyed their time together. They would have more opportunities to interact - this time, however, Moonshine's role as a mother took precedence over her role as a friend.

Moonshine 30 Moons, Queen of RainClan ❁❁❁
"My father is dead. My mentor is dead. And what hurts the most, mother, is that you don't seem to care."
Nothing could have prepared the blue eyed queen for that and before words of disbelief could leave her lips, her son was stalking away from her and she felt her heart shatter. Her precious son, her baby, thought that she did not care. He had no idea of the pain she was in everyday just to make sure he was okay, he was to much like Ashfoot, stubborn and perhaps a little inflexiable in his opinion on something.
When it came to Ashfoot hearing her only kitten's opinion on her tactics cut deep, more deep than anything could have really. That was the thing with family, they knew how to hit where it hurt the most. Moonshine's eyes watered as she broke down, sinking on her haunches and barely acknowledging Brookfall's words that her son needed time, it was for HER to decide what she would do to reconcile with HER son, but the attempt to comfort was short lived as minutes after Brookfall stated that she should go after her grieving son and that he would deal with the fish.
At this, The young queen finally met his gaze and with a quick nuzzle of his shoulder in thanks for everything he had just done for her she bolted in the direction in which her son headed. Wrenpaw was upset at his mother, so logically he would go to his father and since they were the only two that knew where Ashfoot was buried she darted in the direction of which her beloved mate had been laid to rest, paw steps light as they moved over the rich dark soil. " Wrenpaw? Sweetheart, I'm sorry " She called out loudly, hoping that her son would at least give her a clue to where he was fighting to hold back her own sobs of grief until her son was found,
Moonshine mewed softly, the way she had called Wrenpaw to her when he was a tiny kit, not that he ever left her side for long.
"A mother understands what her offspring do not say."

WrenpawWrenpaw ran as fast as his legs could take him, tears streaking his brown coat as he went. With his mind so wrapped up in what had just happened, Wrenpaw found himself almost carried by his body towards his father's grave. as he approached, Wrenpaw found himself frozen in place, a terror over the finality of what was in front of him.
More than a single part of Wrenpaw wanted to turn tail and run, in that moment, but instead he found himself inexplicably drawn towards the fresh upturned ground where his father rested. His golden eyes shut as he drew closer, step by step, and as he felt the soft dirt under his paw Wrenpaw began to cry, whimpers escaping him lips.
Grief washed over him, like a large wave, engulfing him all at once with memories, both good and bad of his father. He wondered what his father would want him to do now. Logically, Wrenpaw knew he should focus on training to become a warrior, and to follow in Ashfoot's steps, but on the other paw, he began to wonder if he would even be able to follow's his father's legacy without being constantly tormented by his death. Wrenpaw shuddered.
He heard his mother arriving long before she did, his ears very sensitive to the sounds the territory, and he paid no mind to her, simply stiffening and focusing his attention on the grave. Her apology he heard, and he acknowledged in with a cold nod.
"I don't know what to do anymore. Maybe this life isn't for me.." With a whirl of his strong muscles, the tom turned to look at his mother, standing squarely, as if defensively, between his father's grave and Moonshine. "I don't understand. He was everything, he was brave, and tough, and ready to fight all of Starclan to keep us safe... And yet, he's dead."
Wrenpaw shook his head, trying to lower the hairs raised along his shoulders, before continuing. "The world is already moving on, the clan act like its any other day, but it isn't. Dad is dead."
The apprentice let out a loud hacking sound as emotion's clamored up his throat. He looked across at Moonshine, and without the capability for any other words, simply began to cry, his body heaving as he did. There was Wrenpaw, reduced back to kithood, at the foot of his father's grave. And he felt completely alone.

"I don't understand. He was everything, he was brave, and tough, and ready to fight all of Starclan to keep us safe... And yet, he's dead."
"The world is already moving on, the clan act like its any other day, but it isn't. Dad is dead."
The words that left the maw of her grieving son made Moonshine's oh so careful barrier's shatter into a million pieces and without waiting for permission she was by his side, curling her tail protectively around her only offspring. Licking his ears in an attempt to comfort, tears falling freely down her face as she offered a weak purr in an attempt to make him feel just a little bit better.
" I... wanted to be strong.. for him.. for you darling... I failed to see that we need to be together on this" her words were shaky, full of emotion and grief as she continued to just hold her baby close to her, let him know that she wasn't going anywhere. Moonshine was not know to have emotional breakdowns but here, with her son at the foot of the grave of a tom, who would have moved mountains to make them happy.
The normally perfectly put together queen lost her composure, breaking down and sobbing softly into her son's perfectly tawny brown coat, her cream fur slicked with tears and small droplets of water from her fishing attempt. The happy female from the lake with Brookfall was gone, this was Moonshine, letting her grief finally be released.
"I don't understand it either Wrenpaw, but if there is anything that I do understand it's this, your father loved you, I love you and one day you are gonna find a she-cat and have kits of your own. The one's we love never really leave us son, they stay in our hearts and thoughts forever" She said softly, nuzzling her son lovingly, her bright blue eyes shiny with greif and adoration of both her offspring and the tom, laying almost peacefully in the freshly dug grave beside them.
" Your father would want you to be happy darling and it doesn't matter what that might mean for the clan, I want you to know that we are both so proud of you sweetheart, I love you more than anyone in the whole world so please darling, know that while the rest of them move on with their lives we stand tall and we follow the path we want, knowing that Ashfoot is watching over us and will protect us from everything that may wish to harm us"
The queen stopped her speech there as a lump formed in her throat and she just pulled her son closer to her and bathed him with adoring licks and purrs, wanting so desperately to see her precious kitten smile again.
"A mother understands what her offspring do not say."

Wrenpaw
" I... wanted to be strong.. for him.. for you darling... I failed to see that we need to be together on this." Wrenpaw didn't make any attempt to move as his mother approached him, instead he simply stayed where he lay, pawing her tail closer to his body as he wept. He heard Moonshine begin to cry, and inside he felt his heart shatter, an urge to try and make his mother feel better, overwhelm him. Wrenpaw slowly readjusted himself, as his mother spoke, as she spoke of the possibility of Wrenpaw one day having kits. He had never really thought about kittens, always focused on training and his family. His sobs stopped for a moment as he imagine his mother, running around with grand-kits, and he couldn't help but hold onto that image as she continued to listen to his mother. She nuzzled him softly, and without thought he nuzzled back, before looking at her, on even grounds. He couldn't help but notice the sadness in grief echoed in her eyes, and suddenly all claims he had made earlier seemed ridiculous. He let out a soft meow and licked his mother cheek, as she would have one done to him, " You're too beautiful to cry, Mother"He couldn't help but just listen to her words as they both sat at this father's grave, unwilling to move and unwilling to continue on with the day. His tears had slowly started to dry up, however as the family spoke. " I wonder what Starclan is like, Mom. I hope dad is happy in the stars. One things for sure, I bet there's no greencough there." He meant the comment is a sort of joke, feeling guilt as he remembered many cats were still deathly sick with the illness. Momentarily distracted from his pain, he turn to Moonshine, his eyes golden with hope.
"Mom, I want to train again. I want to be a warrior. Can you please help me? I don't know what to do, But I'm ready."Wrenpaw grinned, trying to cheer his mother up, although it came off as less than sincere. "I'm going to make you and dad proud, by becoming the best Rainclan cat, there has ever been."

Moonshine 30 Moons, Queen of RainClan ❁❁❁
Moonshine could not help the small smile that appeared on her face as her son told her she was to beautiful to cry and then he continued. This time speaking about what Starclan must be like and if Ashfoot was happy there. "I'd like to think that he is happy sweetie, that he watches over us" She spoke softly, her throat still a little tight with the weight of her emotions and grief. She hated letting her son see her in such a state, to breakdown and need him when she was his mother, she was supposed to be this strong she-cat but right now, all she wanted to do was curl up around Ashfoot's grave with her only offspring and go to sleep.
Wrenpaw's next words however drew her out of her depressive thoughts, her son's determined words to make his parent's proud had her tears stop flowing for a minute " Darling we are already proud of you, you have grown into such a handsome brave tom that even Starclan itself is in awe" she spoke, her kind words were accompanied with an affectionate grooming of her son's fur and a gentle purr that she reserves usually for upset kit's, Wrenpaw would always be her kitten, no matter how old he was.
" I can help you continue your training, but you might need to speak to Stormstar about getting a new mentor, as your mother, I am not really allowed" She felt guilty, perhaps a little angry that she was not allowed to teach her only kit the necessities of life in the clan, that her maternal skills were called into question enough that some overgrown puffer fish like Stormstar decided that she was not allowed to mentor Wrenpaw.
However this did not deter her, her son said he wanted to be the best and such Moonshine would not expect anything less of the new mentor for her precious offspring. She had not really liked his old mentor, but that did not matter now, greencough had claimed him to early and she did grieve the loss of a clan mate. " You will get the best mentor my darling, I promise you that" she assured her beautiful kitten that was pressed against her, sadness evident in his entire being, thought he had tried to brighten up for her sake.

WrenPaw I SAY I AM STRONGER THAN FEARSix Moons, Apprentice of RainClan, Wrenpaw nodded as his mother spoke about training, his mind purposefully focusing on the conversation at hand, trying to forget that they were sitting on Ashfoot's grave. His golden eyes, narrowed on his mother's blue ones, as he listened to her say that she would not be able to be the one to train him. While he had come to expect that much, the words still stung just a little bit.
However, as she continued on about finding him the best mentor, he couldn't help but grin sheepishly, excited. Certainly mother has a senior warrior in mind, maybe Stormstar himself; Wren wouldn't mind Rushwhisker either, but he definitely needed the best to become the best.
Excitement shot through his body as he continued to think about his new mentor, his body visisbly relaxing as the two continued to sit near eachother. "Thank you, Mother." Wrenpaw managed, before pushing himself into a standing position. Dusting himself off, with a quick shake of his pelt, Wrenpaw slowly moved forward away from the grave and his mother, turning back to face her from a cat's length away. He smiled "Mom, I can't wait. I'm going to go back to camp, clean my bedding and get ready." Wrenpaw's eyes wandered towards the territory around him, Well maybe he'd back after a quick run.
As he veered and quickly vanished into the forest, towards Rainclan he couldn't help but let out an excited purr. Soon, once again, he'd train.

Moonshine 30 Moons, Queen of RainClan ❁❁❁The queen smiled in sastisfaction as her son walked away, seemingly a lot happier than he had been when he first came to this part of the riverbed, where so many memories were buried in it's dark rich soil. Moonshine glanced at the freshly up turned earth where her beloved mate lay, peacefully, resting and awaiting the day she joined him in Starclan.
The former apprentice of the very tom that lay in the soil stood and without a tear or even a sniffle she made her way back to camp, determined that she would find her son the perfect mentor. Obviously Stormstar would have to be notified of Sandtalon's death, the tom had been her son's mentor after all, even if Moonshine despised him.
Who would she pick? there were many perfectly capable candidates to mentor her son, but somehow her mind keep taking her to a particular tom. Not because he had impressed her with looks or even warrior skills but because he had done something that no other tom had managed to do besides Ashfoot, he made the blue eyed queen trust him and hopefully her fishing teacher would be up for the task and honour of teaching her only son.
