blinded by the light of a new sun take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem Despite the uncharacteristically warm weather, there is a cough going around TreeClan. I hope to StarClan that doesn't escalate into a real problem. Everyone, to his untrained eye, seemed fairly healthy with the exception of Feathercloud, who was still recovering from her leg injury.Lionstar buried the bones and feathers of the finch he had been eating, turning seamlessly to the Ancient Stump. It was time for a very important couple of announcements; glimpses of the queens, fussing busily over the over-excited kits, could be seen from the nursery. The tom smiled heartily, always appreciating this part of his job as Clan leader."Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather at the Ancient Stump!"His heart swelled, filling up with pride as warm as the sun's rays as he watched his Clan gather. He gave Finchkit and Thornkit stern looks, commanding the kits to settle down as they tried to push to the front of the crowd, Silentsong and Zephyrfang hurrying after. Well, Silentsong was hurrying. Zephyrfang looked incredibly smug."I'm sure you've noticed how crowded the nursery's been lately," Lionstar addressed the multitude of cats, chuckling over his understatement. "To spare the warriors any more den maintenance, it's time we welcomed a few more apprentices into the Clan. Amberkit, Aspenkit, Fawnkit, step forward. Finchkit, Thornkit, step forward. The time has come for you all to become 'paws. I have faith that you will serve your Clan well and listen to the cats I have chosen to be your mentors."Golden eyes pierced the night, finding the selected cats he had picked for this special occasion. "Amberpaw, your mentor will be Mockingbird. Aspenpaw, yours will be Birchfrost. Fawnpaw, Maplebrook. Finchpaw, Gorsetail will be your mentor. And I will mentor Thornpaw."Mockingbird's eerily familiar yellow eyes found him in the crowd, and Lionstar suppressed an inner shiver. He hated how much she reminded him of Grayowl. Hated it. Yet she had proven herself to be a good warrior, and her kits weren't... terrible. She could be trusted with an apprentice."Mockingbird, Birchfrost, Maplebrook, Gorsetail - you have all shown yourselves to be fine warriors. I know you will train these apprentices well."Mockingbird approached calmly, and touched noses with Amberpaw. As the other mentors came forward to do the same, Lionstar went to the edge of the Ancient Stump, and touched noses with Thornpaw - amused at how tall the young tom already was. He would grow big, like his father. With any luck, he'd be less trouble, but Lionstar knew better than to rely on luck.Fawnpaw's eyes were glowing, and the kitten gazed wonderously around at the crowd as they began chanting the new apprentices' names."Amberpaw! Aspenpaw! Fawnpaw! Finchpaw! Thornpaw!"leader of TreeClan Note-If Duskpaw's training is finished, Duskpaw will be made a warrior for this ceremony -Moonfeather may get her outsider ceremony too Please note that Gorsetail is (mildly) sick with greencough. Now tell me all about your pain, down to the detail...
From his place lounging in the shadows, doing his best to avoid the unrelenting sun, Magpiewing watched. His sharp yellow gaze caught notice of the slightest details around the camp, anything that changed, anything out of place, any motion was given its due attention, which was for the most part less than a heartbeat. Yellow eyes flickered over the commotion in the nursery before shifting quickly to Lionstar, finishing his meal. He would call the Clan together soon and proud queens would parade their immaculately groomed kittens out for the whole Clan to celebrate as they reached perhaps the least impressive milestone of their lives. Apprenticeship was not earned, as warriorhood was. If you had the good sense and the good luck to reach your sixth moon whole and healthy, any cat could claim it. It took no skill or effort. Perhaps that was part of the reason all apprentices took on such a dull and unimpressive name... 'paw'.
A black plumed tail twitched as yellow eyes turned their attention elsewhere. It was too hot for ceremonies, if you asked him. With a medium length coat of night black, Magpiewing was anything but comfortable on this particular day, even amongst his favored shadows. He mused briefly on Pinkcloud. She had preferred the shadows as well. It was something they had 'bonded' over, once upon a time. His tail twitched again, flicking away any further thought of her. She had ceased to be interesting moons ago. Had she survived, perhaps she could have entertained him further for a time, but he seriously doubted it.
A fly buzzed about his ears until he gave them a good flick and sent it on its way. Movement caught his eye as Lionstar stood to bury the remains of his meal. He watched the larger tom, anticipating his ascension to the ancient stump and the familiar summons. He remained where he was, watching as his Clanmates filed out from their own shadows or dens. His gaze lingered on the black pelt of Nightsky, his young warrior son who looked so much like him. Then Mockingbird appeared and he finally rose from his place, weaving through the gathering cats until he was at her side. He let their pelts brush briefly, they were mates after all and displays of affection were to be expected before the Clan, but it was too hot to maintain the contact for long.
He took a seat beside her, his tail laying loosely around his paws as he gave Lionstar his attention for the time being, though his attention was never truly devoted to any one cat or thing at a time. He was very aware of the cats still settling around him, of their shifting and murmurs to each other. His ears were pricked and alert, not to hear Lionstar's words, but to catch any stray whisper from his Clanmates that might become useful knowledge. His ears twitched slightly as Lionstar expedited the ceremony. With five apprentices to name, Magpiewing didn't blame him, and was quite thankful he wasn't dragging it out with the traditional monotony. For a brief moment, as his mate's name fell from Lionstar's mouth, his leader had his full attention.
His bright yellow eyes narrowed in the slightest. Well... Lionstar did have some surprises in him, didn't he? The golden leader's distrust for Mockingbird was no secret, least of all to Magpiewing. He hadn't imagined Mockingbird or himself would ever be given an apprentice while Lionstar ruled TreeClan. He watched his mate approached her new apprentice, Amberpaw, with some amount of interest. He gave his voice over to calling the new dull, unimpressive names, once each for the five of them, before making his way closer to Mockingbird to see what sort of cat her new apprentice seemed to be. He donned his usual mask, friendly and charming as he purred, “Congratulations, both of you.” He gave Mockingbird's cheek a quick, affectionate nuzzle before looking down at Amberpaw, “Lucky you, getting Mockingbird as your mentor. You'll be a great warrior in no time at all.” Such nonsensical drivel was expected from 'normal' Clanmates, after all.
Don't say it's love, your fragile heart feeds my contempt.

Maplebrook "Follow your dreams sweetheart, they know the way"
' Oh Starclan, please let everyone be alright from this sickness' The young warrior silently prayed to Starclan as she made her way to the Ancient Stump that Lionstar had called the clan to. The female knew what the meeting was for before her leader even spoke, she remembered the buzz of excitement amongthe parent's at her own 14 moons earlier.
This was an apprentice ceremony and while Maplebrook was not sure whether it was wise to bring the whole clan together while there was sick cats around. The beautiful she-cat would never question her leaders judgement directly and could only hope Starclan spared those at the ceremony the pain of greencough, or even worse redcough. As Lionstar spoke the female listened carefully and could not help but notice the uncomfortable stare off that was happening between Mockingbird and Lionstar.
The young warrior had no idea why the leader seemed to not trust the queen but as he spoke she could not help but allow her jaw to drop as Lionstar not only appointed Mockingbird as a mentor for a kit but Maplebrook herself. Glancing over to the excited looking kits, she pinpointed her new apprentice, who was seemingly in awe at the clan cats chanting her name.
The stunned female slowly rose to her paws and made her way over to the younger female. "Congratulations, Fawnpaw, My name is Maplebrook and I will be your mentor" The warm tones of the female's voice almost purred to her seemingly delighted apprentice. Maplebrook made a promise to herself that she would train this apprentice as best she could, the small female did not have to be the best but she would have to try and Maplebrook was honoured to be the one to teach her. Loner - Queen - 23 Moons
She'd heard the call to come to the stump, something that meant everyone was to come together to hear what Lionstar had to say. Moonfeather padded over quietly, herding her three kits with her since they were now old enough to come to these things. She knew what was going on, since Lionstar had spoken to her about the apprentice ceremony for her kits.
She perched where she could see and gave each of the three a quick grooming before sending them off to get their new names and a mentor. The young she-cat felt her heart constrict watching her quickly growing kits move on to the next part of their life adventure. It was bittersweet, while at the same time she was proud of herself for getting them this far.
She even called out their new names with the rest of the Clan. Her precious kits were moving on from her, but she was their mother and as she had recently been told, they would always need her.
The cough she was starting to hear worried her, because sick kits went downhill very quickly, and well she knew. It would kill her to see her kits get sick and potentially die like the others in their litter. She didn't know who to pray to for help, since she didn't really believe in Lionstar's StarClan, but she hoped whatever it was never touched her precious kits.

52 Moons, Warrior-Queen of TreeClan
The tortoiseshell she-cat's throat rumbled with amusement as her two sons practically vibrated on their paws. She'd spent the better half of the afternoon grooming them, spending an annoyingly long time with one unruly clump of Thornkit's fur. Eventually, his squirming forced her to stop fretting, smiling fondly at her two kits as they circled one another, their eyes alight with anticipation. As the pair barreled outside, the warrior-queen slipped out after them all the while flashing her brightest smile at Zephyrfang's large frame. "Dad, dad, dad!" Thornkit's voice shattered any illusions of silence as the large tom-kit collided with his father.
"It's today! We're finally going to be apprentices! I'm going to be the best!" Silentsong wove her way through the flailing limbs of her two boys, pressing her nose under her mate's chin and rubbing her head against him as she purred affectionately. Before Thornkit could continue assuring his father that he would be the greatest thing to happen to TreeClan since moss nests, Lionstar's voice cut through the air. Silentsong giggled silently as the tabby tom-kit leapt ten fox-lengths in the air and darted forward, calling out to his friends. "Finchkit! Fawnkit! Amberkit! Aspenkit! Let's go!"
With a shake of her head and a smile to Zephyrfang, the tortoiseshell warrioress followed after her overexcited sons. She settled down near the front of the group, plume-like tail wrapping around her paws. With a quick glance over her shoulder, she made sure her mate was just behind her. As he settled down beside her, she pressed her side against him, relishing in his closeness and, admittedly, letting some of her kits' overflowing excitement trickle through her. Ears pricked attentively to the sound of Lionstar's continuation, Silentsong holding her breath to stop herself from trembling.
Gorsetail! Gorsetail is going to train my Finchkit! Her voice purred in her mind. But another thought quickly replaced it, hazel-green eyes flicking to her other son. Sure enough, Thornpaw was looking at his brother dubiously. Oh Lionstar... Surely you know how competitive Thornpaw is... She worried silently. That is... Until Thornpaw's mentor was revealed. She could see the strain it took her son not to leap the height of the Great Maple in that moment, his body shivering with glee as he flashed a grin and forced himself to rise slowly to his paws. Silentsong hung back, allowing the new mentor-apprentice pairs to greet one another, and for the Clan to call out triumphantly.
"Amberpaw! Aspenpaw! Fawnpaw! Finchpaw! Thornpaw!" Skyfall's booming voice cut into Silentsong's thoughts, the white tom seeming to materialize at her mate's side. The usually-stoic tom offered the pair a smile, dipping his head slightly as he murmured. "Congratulations to the both of you. You must be proud." With an answering beam, Silentsong nodded enthusiastically before looking almost sheepish. Touching her nose to Skyfall's in thanks, she turned tail and bounded first to Gorsetail's side. Pressing her head to the tom's shoulder, she hoped he could feel her purr of affection.
Not wanting to keep the deputy too long, and not wanting to leave Lionstar without her appreciation, she scampered over to the Clan leader and dipped her head just so before giving him the same treatment she had his deputy. It was as she pressed herself to the lion-like tom's side that she heard her firstborn son's triumphant mew. "Mom! Mom! I'm Thornpaw now, and Lionstar is my mentor!" Silentsong, Thornpaw and Skyfall are all here!

Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather at the Ancient Stump!"
Birchfrost really wanted to be happy when he heard Lionstar's voice resonate around the camp. An apprentice is going to be a lot of extra work though. He thought grumpily, lingering along the outside of the crowd. Sure, training an apprentice would satisfy one of the well-known deputy and leadership requirements, but Birchfrost's mind was wrapped around the fact that mentor-ship meant longer, harder days. The slightest thought of certain and evident responsibilities contingent to holding a high position made his stomach twist. Yeah, He thought. that's definitely not for me. Although patience won't be a problem for the tom, Birchfrost was well aware of the painful, obvious reality of education: that a successful student requires effort from both parties. So there he sat, away from the apprentices and their haughty supporters, digesting, and perhaps internally complaining, about his future. I wish Lionstar would have chosen someone else. He caviled silently. Despite the silver tom's pathetic internal tribulations, he seemed poise, waiting readily for his apprentice to any outside eyes. Birchfrost's amber gaze searched the apprentices, looking over each one of the proud kits as they sat waiting for Lionstar's announcement, trying to stomach his woe.
"I'm sure you've noticed how crowded the nursery's been lately," Lionstar spoke lightheartedly, ending his cute remark with a chortle. "To spare the warriors any more den maintenance, it's time we welcomed a few more apprentices into the Clan. Amberkit, Aspenkit, Fawnkit, step forward. Finchkit, Thornkit, step forward. The time has come for you all to become 'paws. I have faith that you will serve your Clan well and listen to the cats I have chosen to be your mentors."
Birchfrost lined up next to the other to-be mentors, edging in closer to the apprentices, some almost bursting from their own ego. "Amberpaw, your mentor will be Mockingbird. Aspenpaw, yours will be Birchfrost. Fawnpaw, Maplebrook. Finchpaw, Gorsetail will be your mentor. And I will mentor Thornpaw."
The silver tabby tom made sure to greet his new apprentice politely. He didn't want to start off his relationship with Aspenpaw unkindly; being a complete foxheart was asking for more complications and work throughout their temporary acquaintanceship. Well, what's done is done. Birchfrost thought, looking at Aspenpaw with his calm, amber gaze as Lionstar finished addressing the clan.
"Mockingbird, Birchfrost, Maplebrook, Gorsetail - you have all shown yourselves to be fine warriors. I know you will train these apprentices well."
Birchfrost never did appreciate being the center of attention. Everyone has such high expectations for the class act. He thought, trotting hastily towards the fresh-kill pile after a brief encounter with his new apprentice, grabbing a starling and a mouse from the top. I might as well fill up. This mentor work is going to be hard. He assumed, the plump tom crouching over his snacks happily.
At least I can start off this adventure with a fully belly. The stout tabby thought thankfully, not letting despondency sour his voracious appetite.

blinded by the light of a new sun take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem The camp had exploded into a flurry of excitement - in varying degrees. At one end, there was Thornpaw, who could be heard boasting to his mother about having Lionstar for a mentor. On the other, there was Birchhfrost who had greeted Aspenpaw well enough--and then somehow found himself back at the fresh kill pile. If it hadn't been such a harsh leafbare, Lionstar would've scolded the young tom for being such a greedy-gut.Waiting until much of the chatter had died down, Lionstar waved his tail for silence, speaking over the horde of TreeClanners. His eyes found Moonfeather. "For the past couple of moons now, TreeClan has sheltered a loner called Moonfeather and her two, now three kits." There was a purr in his throat as he looked at the batch of new apprentices. "Now they have joined the Clan proper, and are well on their way to becoming proud, loyal warriors of the Clan. However, I think it's time we gave Moonfeather a ceremony of her own."Lionstar beckoned the she-cat forward, knowing she wouldn't like the attention, but hoping she could appreciate what it meant. The whole Clan would soon see her as a Clanmate, and absolutely nothing short of StarClan intervening would take that away from her. She was home."Spirits of StarClan, you know every Clan cat by name. I ask you now to look upon one who is not of this Clan by birth, but by heart and spirit instead, and deem her worthy. Moonfeather, do you swear to abandon the life you led as a loner and embrace the ways of our Clan and creed?"He could sense Fawnpaw's awe as she sat beside Maplebrook, her eyes fixed on her mother's form as the ceremony commenced. The pride was now mutual; Moonfeather was proud of her kits, and her kits, likewise, were surely proud of her. That there was no horrible goodbye in the nearby future hanging over their heads anymore.Lionstar continued. "Do you swear to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your new Clan, even at the cost of your life?" He had spent the morning going over the finer points of the Code with her, filling out her education as best he could in such a short time. She was an attentive student, and he had answered questions as well as asked a few of his own.Confident of the answer his Clan would give, Lionstar addressed them all. "Are there any who oppose Moonfeather becoming a member of TreeClan?"There was silence, shaken heads, and a few "No's" from the crowd.Lionstar gave a singular curt nod. It was decided."Then by my authority as Clan leader, and with the approval of our warrior ancestors, we acknowledge her name as a Clan cat's name and welcome her into the Clan. From this moment on she will be known as Moonfeather, a fully recognized warrior of TreeClan."The chorus began again, this time for Moonfeather.Fawnpaw rushed to her mother's side and nuzzled her, practically bouncing on her toes with delight.Lionstar signaled that the Clan meeting was over by hopping down from the Ancient Stump. He'd let everyone get settled before he gave the apprentices and Moonfeather his well-wishes. Lionstar smiled, hanging back to watch this moment play out.leader of TreeClan

Now tell me all about your pain, down to the detail...
When Lionstar didn't leap down from the stump, Magpiewing's ears twitched as he turned back toward the leader, wondering what else he had to say. The apprentice ceremony had been obvious, but he had no idea what else needed to be addressed. Finally the rest of the Clan quieted themselves as they seemed to realize their leader had more to say and Lionstar continued, speaking of Moonfeather, whose kits had just been apprenticed. He stood beside Mockingbird and her new apprentice throughout Lionstar's official 'welcome to the Clan' ceremony and remained silent when he asked if any cat opposed Moonfeather joining their Clan. Blood purity meant nothing to Magpiewing, though he eyed a few cats who he was aware it DID mean something to. They did not look entirely pleased but had no GOOD reason to object, so they remained silent as well.
The chanting began anew for Moonfeather, and he generously called her name not once but twice. Lionstar descended to the ground afterward, officially ending the meeting. As the Clan began to break up and return to their duties, Magpiewing slipped away from his mate and headed toward Lionstar, weaving around his Clanmates purposefully until he made it to the leader's side, “Lionstar! I wanted to thank you....” He glanced back at Mockingbird and her new apprentice, careful to insert the right amount of fondness into his yellow gaze before turning back to Lionstar, “I just want you to know how much it means, to both of us. Mockingbird getting her first apprentice. We....” He trailed off and looked a bit sheepishly down at his paws briefly, as if embarrassed by what he was about to admit, “Well... neither of us really thought you trusted her enough for this....”
Then a bright smile lit up his features, “But I'm so glad we were wrong. So many cats in the Clan mistrust Mockingbird unfairly just because of who her father is, I had been so disappointed thinking maybe even YOU were one of them. I knew you were better than that, Lionstar.” His tail waved happily behind him, “I really hope you giving her this chance will make others see her for who she is and not who her father was as well. It can be so awfully isolating for her... it's even reflecting onto our kits, and they never even met Grayowl.” He had a moment to look a bit dismayed at how the Clan had been treating his kits, but then he waved his tail as if wiping away such negativity, “Maybe this will help them too. Thank you.” He dipped his head respectfully, his voice drenched in gratitude on behalf of his mate.
Don't say it's love, your fragile heart feeds my contempt.

She was happy for her kits, for the acceptance of the Clan towards them, sighing since now she didn't have to worry so much about their future. And then Lionstar announced her own ceremony, different from the kits to apprentices. Her ears immediately flattened to her skull as she slowly crept forward, overwhelmed with all the attention and not sure what to make of it all. She would be batting Lionstar's fluffy ears later for this, though she knew it was necessary. The green eyed she-cat eventually let her ears lift just slightly at Lionstar's encouraging words, still embarrassed and not at all enjoying the attention. She tried to look excited, but she felt she ended up looking terrified instead. But he questioned her and she had to answer. "Yes." Her voice shook, but at least she'd been able to speak. She felt a little furry body press against her side, though she knew it was probably against the rules. Amberpaw. Just that slight presence, knowing her kits were watching and wishing her happiness, eased the knot that had clogged her throat and flattened her ears. She took a breath and her ears flicked up, letting the press of Amberpaw's tiny frame be her strength. No more goodbye in their future, a family now made whole forever. "To the best of my ability." It wasn't the standard answer, she was sure, but it was honest. Everyone made mistakes, and in this she knew she'd probably make her share of them. But she was going to give it her best. When it was over, and everyone shouted her name, the gray feline just basked in having her kits with her, grooming each of them a little in greeting and thanks and nuzzling the top of Amberpaw's head for coming to her when she needed her most. With that done she was ready to get out of there, to walk with her kits before they became too busy with training for time with their doting mother. @zen Fawn BlooRey DVD @kahani @jet

Maplebrook
The silver tabby cat watched as not only did her new apprentice approach her but the kit's mother was called up in front of the clan. Maplebrook's emerald gaze shifted to her leader with a look of confusion but that quickly faded with the tom's words. The emerald eyed warrioress smiled softly at the queen before the clan, a sense of encouragement to the perhaps uncomfortable feline. Maplebrook did not bother to glance around when Lionstar asked if the clan was uncomfortable with the whole outsider joining the clan business. There were a few cats in Maplebrook's mind whom would definitely not agree but much to her surprise they stayed silent. Perhaps not brave enough to go directly against their leader in front of the entire clan.
Maplebrook was about to make her exit from the gathering, telling her apprentice that they would start training within the next few days when a voice caught her attention and the young female could not help but listen in. The voice belonged to Magpiewing, a tom in the clan that Maplebrook had little to do with. It was not that she hated him, he just ave her a strange feeling, like he wasn't who he said he was but with no solid proof or reason to openly dislike the tabby just settled with being cordial with the male and his mate Mockingbird.
As the male before her went on to say about how he wondered if the leader had not trusted his mate enough with an apprentice had Maplebrook subtly roll her eyes in annoyance. If she was leader, she would not trust him with an apprentice but his mate, was a different story. It was not her fault who her father was and Maplebrook held no ill wishes towards the she-cat or her family, even despite the fact that she found Magpiewing insufferable and fake with his unnerving yellow eyes.
The female slowly approached the pair with an expressionless face, her bright green eyes locked onto her leader's as she gave both a polite nod. She would wait for the interaction to end before she stated her own little discussion with the leader, simply because that was polite and there was no reason to start a whole vendetta against the one tom simply because of a 'feeling' she had about him.
