It was a beautiful night for a gathering. Beautiful. I wish I was going. I hope Hazelpaw and Maplepaw are having fun without us. Honeynose sighed a little, gazing upward at the swath of stars stretching out in all directions. With Hawkstar, Wolfclaw, both medicine cats, Skunkspots, Valiantstride (they were a cute couple!), Foxtrot, Spiderheart and Talonfoot gone, the camp felt a little... empty.
The nursery was quiet, the kits undoubtedly snoozing all snug in their nests with their mothers. Honeynose's gaze softened, and she smiled with fondness over the memories floating in on a cool breeze. She could recall it so clearly, her nursery days playing with her littermates.
What was that?
Honeynose's ears pricked forward, and she had to bashfully remind herself not to look so excited in front of Herondive; they were tonight's camp guards. The scent she had picked up was Vipertail's! But where was he going? Honeynose threw a curious glance at her best friend, rising from her seated position near StoneClan's entrance. "I'll be right back."
With light steps and quiet breathing, the tabby and white she-cat slipped away into the night, mrrowing a greeting to Vipertail as soon as she got close to him - and stopped dead, eyes widening. Vipertail wasn't alone. Redclaw, Smokestorm, Yarrowstorm and Dawnchaser were all standing around, staring back at her as if there was nothing unusual about this.
"She's coming too?" asked Redclaw.
"What? Coming where?" Honeynose frowned, looking at Vipertail for an explanation.
The handsome jet black tom, his pelt sleek under the moonlight, stepped closer, speaking quietly but determinedly. "We're going to take back Sun Stones while LightningClan's at the gathering. You can come with us if you want."
A thrill of shock rippled through Honeynose's pelt, which fluffed out in surprise. "But you can't--"
"Let's go, we're wasting moonlight," hissed Yarrowstorm.
Honeynose was left dancing uncertainly on her paws, torn between running after them or going back to guard-duty. This won't end well... Oh StarClan, protect them. What if they were hurt, because she kept her mouth shut? Even if she so badly wanted Vipertail's trust, she didn't want it at the cost of his safety.
Honeynose tucked tail and hurried back to Herondive, her voice a fluttery whisper of nerves. "Vipertail and a bunch of others are going to the Sun Stones! They're trying to pick a fight with LightningClan! What do we do, Herondive? Hawkstar and Wolfclaw aren't here. They won't listen to anyone else!" Honeynose's whiskers quivered.

HERONDIVE What. A. Night. Herondive sat near the entrance of the StoneClan camp, her haunches bunched lazily beneath her. It was a far more relaxed pose than she normally took, one of her hind legs sprawling out slightly, body twisted just so to hold herself upright. For whatever reason, today had felt like a whirlwind day compared to any other in the past few moons. It had started out rather plainly, with a hunting patrol accompanied by Honeynose. Herondive had to admit she liked all the extra time she was able to spend with her friend now that they were both warriors.
Everyone's energy level was at a bit of a buzzing peak, aware that the Gathering was tonight. Of course, not everyone got to go, but just knowing there would be gossip to hear from others soon was enough to lift almost everyone's excitement. The strange background buzz that had followed her most of the day had been quickly shoved aside when Fallenleaf collapsed just outside the elder's den earlier that night. No one could really explain what had happened, but StarClan had it kicked up a commotion. It had felt like forever before the Gathering party had finally left; she and Honeynose had been tasked with guarding the camp, and watching out for Fallenleaf to appease Skunkspots.
Now everything was stagnant. Her creamy tail dragged aimlessly along the ground as it swished, her bright blue eyes half-lidded and staring up at the sky. Although Silverpelt was beautiful tonight, she wasn't really seeing the sky. Instead, she was daydreaming about a certain pair of gray-blue eyes belonging to a large white-and-fawn TreeClan tom. Though she'd never divulge it to anyone, Herondive found she was forced to actively remind herself to breathe when her mind wandered like this. Ignoring the way her heart seemed to dance in her chest, the cream and white she-cat thought back to her meetings with the tom at StarClan's Claws.
Would he be there tonight? Would Falconstorm be wondering if she would be there? The thought sent a strange thrill through her, the tip of her tail flicking off rhythm suddenly. Honeynose's voice broke through her haze, and nearly caused her to leap four tail-lengths in the air. Though every muscle in her body tensed, she managed to stay grounded, nodding her head stiffly and watching as her best friend moved off somewhere. ...Wonder where she's going. She thought idly to herself.
It was here that her brother's scent drifted to her. Ears pricked suddenly, jaws parting to draw in the air to double check. Sure enough, Vipertail's scent carried on the wind, and he wasn't alone. It was more than just Honeynose too. Antsy for a whole new reason, Herondive shifted her posture, gathering her limbs beneath her properly as she move to sit on her toes anxiously. She didn't have to wait long; Honeynose approached at a sprint, panic alight in her eyes as she hurriedly explained the situation. Herondive looked dumbfounded. They're doing what? She hissed to herself.
Aware that Honeynose was looking to her for answers, Herondive flattened her ears. Uncertainty pricked through her veins, the she-cat's powerful hindquarters pushing her to a stand as she cast a glance over her shoulder. Part of her screamed that they should go get Eagletalon, or Frozenrain, or someone. But another part didn't want to get Vipertail in trouble. That part of her naively believed she could talk her brother out of this. And as distracted as she was by all the thoughts (and cats) flicking through her mind in that moment, the latter part won. "Come on." She hissed, motioning to the entrance. "We... We have to catch up with them, try and stop them before..."
She trailed off, letting the rest of her sentence hang in the air. Before it's too late. She just hoped that their delayed start didn't negatively affect them too much. "Do you know which way they were headed?" She asked in a hushed tone, picking up speed but giving Honeynose room to lead the way. StarClan, Vipertail. She thought to herself angrily. The trial presented before them was daunting. Can we stop them? Honeynose took the lead, but her heart was trying to gallop back to camp, fearful of the confrontation and fearful of the inevitable freeze-up of her limbs. Honeynose wasn't very good in a crisis; she knew this about herself, and always put her faith and confidence into others. Into stronger warriors than she, who could fight through the fear-induced paralysis and indecision that seemed to plague her in times of stress.
As soon as Vipertail had given the signal, the attack party had covered serious ground. Honeynose's tracking abilities were sound, however, and though she was forced to slow so as not to lose the trail, she and Herondive were able to pursue them right to the Sun Stones. But even with StarClan's blessing of a clear night and bright moon, the path was rough going.
"Vipertail!" Honeynose mewed, her voice a high pitched chirp with alarm as she nervously set paw on the Sun Stones. "Would you please just stop what you're doing? This is—this is birdbrained." Her heart throbbed nervously in her throat as Vipertail's luminous green eyes fixed onto hers.
Vipertail shook his head. "Hawkstar's taking too long." He looked next at Herondive. "Besides, LightningClan's not even here. They won't expect us to take it back tonight."
"Wrong, little Viperpaw." Hissed a voice from the LightningClan border. "We are here."
Honeynose's fur stood completely on end as a LightningClan border patrol launched themselves out of the shadows. It was seven StoneClan cats against four LightningClan cats - but there was a warrioress among them, her fur as white as snow, eyes as red as fresh blood, that latched onto Dawnchaser in an instant.
Honeynose froze, staring in horror as Dawnchaser was flipped over onto her back, and her belly raked mercilessly by the albino she-cat. Dawnchaser yowled in agony, stumbled onto her paws and ran for home.
Yarrowstorm, Redclaw, Vipertail and Smokestorm flung themselves at the LightningClan patrol. Honeynose cried out, watching as Bramblethorn, Cherrypool, Tallstep and Palescreech met them in a loud, cacophonous clash of teeth, fur and claws.

HERONDIVE She'd followed Honeynose diligently, her pace never faltering as she clambered over much of StoneClan's rocky terrain. Her paws were certain, almost confident on such familiar ground, and did not betray the panic that bloomed in her chest to make her heart run wild. Blue eyes were wide as she ran, waiting, hoping, praying to get there in time. Eventually they made it, only to be confronted with Vipertail's defiant gaze. He really thinks he is doing the right thing. She realized grimly. Ears tilted back as she leveled her gaze with her brother's, opening her mouth in full preparation to beg.
"Viperta-" She didn't even manage to utter his name before a distinctly unfamiliar voice sneered at them from the shadows. One of LightningClan's red-eyed demons emerged at the head of a patrol, totaling four vengeful looking cats. Her heart sunk, a heavy stone dropping right into her stomach as she watched. Herondive never had a chance to think to herself that the LightningClan cats were outnumbered; the albino she-cat moved rapidly and handled Dawnchaser as though she were no heavier than a kit. Effectively incapacitated and definitely terrified, the warrioress fled the scene, blood dripping from her torn skin.
And then the two patrols were on top of one another, four against four yet significantly unbalanced in skill. Dismay froze her body for several heartbeats, watching as Yarrowstorm attempted to grapple with Cherrypool. Vipertail was wrapped in a confrontation with Palescreech, while Redclaw faced off with Tallstep. Smokestorm, on the other paw, struggled with Bramblethorn, the fierce tabby senior warrior having pinned the younger StoneClan warrior. Without thinking, she shot forward, bounding up onto a spattering of taller stones and leaping off them with one powerful shove of her hind legs. Tearing through the air, she collided heavily with the tabby she-cat, knocking her to the side and off of Smokestorm.
Bramblethorn hissed at her, lunging with ill-intent reflecting in her gaze; in her best attempt to avoid unforgiving claws, Herondive reared back slightly, swatting away the LightningClanner's paws with her own heavy ones. Bramblethorn recovered quickly, and Herondive found herself locked in paw-to-paw combat with the more experienced warrioress, forced to deflect more rapid blows than she could manage to fire off herself. By some stroke of luck, Herondive saw her opening. She'd been forced back, her weight sitting mostly on her hind legs, so when Bramblethorn's body shifted to open her side, Herondive didn't hesitate.
Leaping forward and crashing into the she-cat, Herondive used her momentum to springboard off of her opponent and tackle Tallstep off Redclaw. The LightningClanner staggered with the force of the impact, allowing Herondive enough time to recollect her wits. Bramblethorn, however, wasn't through with her yet. An irritated yowl ripped through the air, before Herondive's shoulders sunk beneath Bramblethorn's weight as the senior warrior landed on her back. Feeling needle sharp claws dig into the skin there, Herondive wrenched her body around, teeth snapping at thin air in an attempt to latch onto Bramblethorn's paw before the she-cat could do any real damage.

Honeynose trembled where she stood, a cornered mouse in a battle between rats. Their ferocity frightened her; how easily Dawnchaser was dispatched frightened her. Now, oh StarClan now, she understood the horror and woe of StormClan's attack on StoneClan so many moons ago. The elders told tales of a white-furred warrioress and a white-furred warrior, their eyes as red as a gushing wound, their hearts as black as a night without stars.
Those warriors were real.
Dying here, for something as silly as a few slabs of warm rock, was real.
The fight was playing out both in horridly slow intervals, and so quickly it made the tabby-and-white she-cat's head spin. But, when she wrenched her gaze away from Vipertail grappling with Palescreech, Honeynose became witness to something that shocked her into action.
Herondive, her best friend Herondive, was in trouble. With a warbled battle cry that wouldn't have frightened anyone but made Honeynose feel better, the young warrioress flung herself at Herondive's attacker. Her moves were untidy - she had clearly forgotten most of her training in the heat of battle - but her speed and enthusiasm were not.
"You--Get--OFF--OF--HERONDIVE!" She screeched between strikes, battering at Bramblethorn's face and ears, feeling her claws snag sensitive skin and fur. Bramblethorn hissed, forced to unlatch from Herondive's back now that she was facing two opponents instead of one.
Honeynose pressed her muzzle into Herondive's shoulder, trying to help her get her bearings back - until a yowling body crashed into her from above. Honeynose squealed in pain, bumping her head on the stones as Tallstep landed tail-over-paws on top of her. The two warriors separated - Tallstep limping, and Honeynose whimpering in pain and confusion.
She thought she heard Redclaw apologize, but Vipertail's commanding yowl drowned it out.
"StoneClan, retreat!"
They were beaten. A reckless act of rebellion had turned into a bloody disgrace; Honeynose squeezed her eyes shut, frightened by the way the world was spinning. When she opened them again, she saw Herondive's tail on her shoulder - guiding her - and Honeynose was grateful for it.
Vipertail's ear was bleeding. Yarrowstorm was breathing hard, his flanks bloodied, scoured by Cherrypool's unforgiving claws. The others were wild-eyed and frightened, but able to flee with the rest of their Clanmates at Vipertail's signal.
The black warrior was silent on the way home, but his paw-steps faltered as soon as he saw the impressive figures of Hawkstar, Wolfclaw and Eagletalon running towards them.

HERONDIVE Herondive was always glad to see Honeynose; it was only natural, seeing as the other she-cat was one of her best friends. But in that moment, Herondive was really glad to see Honeynose. Faced with the StoneClan warrioress' shrieking blows, Bramblethorn was forced to relinquish her hold on the cream-and-white warrior's shoulders, and Herondive sighed in relief. Whirling to deflect the LightningClan senior warrior's retaliation, Herondive missed Honeynose being toppled by Tallstep. Mid-way through lashing out at her opponent's face, her brother's shrill retreat command tore through the sounds of battle and caused her to stumble. Bramblethorn took the opportunity to land one last blow on Herondive's shoulder, causing the cream and white she-cat to hiss.
Ducking away from any further confrontation, she hurriedly collected her disoriented friend. Worry flashed through her blue eyes, the warrioress ignoring the stinging in her shoulders in favor of caring for her friend. She was aware of the whole group glancing backward repeatedly, making sure they weren't being followed. Eventually, as more and more distance was placed between them, the group slowed. Not one of them had escaped unscathed, except, apparently, Vipertail's pride. Her black-furred brother looked just as sure as he had before, if not a little more stone-faced.
That is... Until he looked like he'd seen a ghost. Cream ears flicked up in alarm, and she followed his vibrant green eyes to see... Their deaths. Their deaths were approaching in the form of three of StoneClan's most respected toms. And at the head of the group, with amber eyes so ablaze that the moon could not compare, was Hawkstar. Her heart sunk to the depths of her core, and for a brief moment she wanted to turn tail and run. Fighting the LightningClan patrol single pawed would be favorable to facing the wrath she could see burning behind her father's eyes. warrior of stoneclan Fawn | background image | table by phoenix Note: 24 moonsHawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains Heavy paws thundered on the ground as he ran from camp, flanked by his deputy and his brother. Not long ago, the sand-brown tabby had returned from the Gathering with a group of StoneClan warriors, Wolfclaw included. Upon arrival, he'd been approached by Eagletalon and Frozenrain, their gazes alight with worry. It was then that he registered Honeynose and Herondive, the two warriors he had assigned to guard the entrance for the night, were not at their post. Eagletalon quickly provided the names of five other warriors currently unaccounted for.
Dawnchaser's sudden appearance, staggering through the camp entrance bleeding from several wounds, filled in the blanks. Assigning Hailstrike and Frozenrain to fill the empty guard spaces, and leaving his mate in charge of camp while they were gone, Hawkstar took Wolfclaw and Eagletalon toward the Sun Stones. Despite the exhaustion pricking at the back of his mind, Hawkstar kept up a rapid pace, teeth grinding against one another as he fought to control the competing distress and fury threatening to tear him apart. Silence reigned amongst them, both accompanying toms able to read the situation; right now, conversation was not high on Hawkstar's to-do list.
Only when a ragged patrol of warriors staggered toward them did Hawkstar slow his charge. The StoneClan figurehead stalked forward, broad shoulders accentuated with the heavy steps he took, and his chilling stare connected with each of the warriors in turn. When they were within hearing range, the massive leader fixed his son with a silencing gaze. "Not a word." He ordered, his tone warning against any attempted explanation. He was not in the mood. With one sharp wave of his tail, the sandy leader took point, Eagletalon and Wolfclaw fell to the rear. Tension crackled in the air around them, Hawkstar very much aware of the unease all six participants of this skirmish regarded him with.
Good. He thought to himself with an imperceptible tightening of his jaw. Eventually, the camp came into view, but the StoneClan leader wasn't finished yet. Veering to the side and signaling for the wounded group to filter into the secluded area just outside of hearing range from the camp, Hawkstar waited for all of them to pass. His hardened gaze observed each of the young warriors, briefly ensuring none of them was in danger of death in the near future, before he stepped forward. Eight pairs of eyes total turned to him, six full of something akin to fear and two closer to pity. Closing his eyes and taking a seat, the tom's lip twitched as he grasped for the final thread of self-control remaining in his body.
When he spoke, he did not raise his voice; in fact, he spoke dangerously softly. And this made it so much worse. "What." He demanded, eyes snapping open to fix them once more. There was a terrible ringing in one ear that haunted her all the way to camp, right until Hawkstar, Wolfclaw and Eagletalon made their appearance. The shock of seeing them so suddenly was enough to either take her mind off the ringing, or provide her with a little bit of mental clarity.
Either way, the internal noise faded, and Honeynose instinctively pressed close to Herondive, shrinking into the ground under the gargantuan weight of Hawkstar's wrath. She had never seen the tom so angry; none of the cats that were part of the patrol had either, given by their shocked, worried expressions. The way they failed to make eye-contact. The way it was all left to Vipertail to speak up.
Honeynose hung her head with shame, looking at her paws as if they were the only thing that mattered.
"With..." Vipertail cleared his throat, gazing at his father with solemnity. "With LightningClan at the gathering, it seemed like the best time to... take back the Sun Stones." The black tom's tail-tip twitched, revealing some of the frustration brewing inside of him like a storm-cloud. "They've had Sun Stones for over a season now."
Oh no. Oh no Hawkstar thinks we were part of the group on purpose! Honeynose threw a horrified stare at Herondive, willing her friend to speak up. She didn't have the courage to say anything herself; she could scarcely look at Hawkstar, and Wolfclaw and Eagletalon. The two senior warriors were silent, their expressions neutral. There would be no help from them here.
The punishment, in their eyes, must've seemed well deserved.
Vipertail suddenly stood up, his voice loud, impassioned. "Don't punish the others. It was my idea. Herondive and Honeynose tried to stop us." He looked at them, the apology clear. "I thought we could win, but I was wrong. Is Dawnchaser okay?"
Honeynose trembled, the adrenaline finally starting to subside and leaving a quivering husk of a she-cat behind. She hated battles; they were messy and frightening. She couldn't recall being more scared of anything in her entire life. Feeling dead on her paws, Honeynose fidgeted, awaiting Hawkstar's sentencing.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains The huge StoneClan figurehead had to force himself not to step forward aggressively, instead funneling the energy into a sharp snap of his tail. Amber eyes still blazed with the rage boiling within him, the fire only stoked by his son's reply. But he waited, allowing Vipertail to finish his lines before he spoke, as it was evident no one else was inclined to speak up. "Warriors of StoneClan do not stoop to the level of LightningClan. We do not toss the Warrior Code over our shoulders at our convenience. I am beyond disappointed in your actions, all of you. And I will not tolerate this sort of insubordination again." He growled lowly.
From the corner of his eye, he could see Herondive move to stand above Honeynose protectively as the other she-cat seemed to sink to the ground. Under normal circumstances, he might have felt apologetic. In this moment, however, he couldn't find it within him. "The delay in retaking the Sun Stones is my fault. I do not enjoy delaying the event. But the well being of StoneClan as a whole is far more important to me than a spattering of rocks. In disobeying my wishes, you not only disrespect me, but you disrespect Wolfclaw, Eagletalon, Dawnblossom, Frozenrain, Hailstrike, and the rest of the senior warriors I confided in each time to validate the decision."
Perhaps they'd learned their lesson by now, but there was a pawful of other issues the sandy brown leader wanted to address before he relieved them of his wrath. "Though the idea might have been yours, Vipertail, the rest of you made your own choices. Each one of you had the opportunity to say no. I care not who's idea it was, I care about the choices that were made and the lives that were endangered. What if Dawnchaser's wounds had been a little deeper? She is badly wounded as it is, under Dawnblossom's care."
Claws sunk into what soft ground them could find as he steadied himself, shoulders still wrought with tension. "All of you are to return to camp immediately. You will present yourself to Dawnblossom for treatment, and you will apologize to her, for needlessly taking her time and herbs because of your recklessness and impatience. Herondive, Honeynose." He saw his daughter tense up slightly, blue eyes daring to meet him for a moment. He was fairly certain she was holding her breath too.
"Once cleared for duty by Dawnblossom, you are to report to Wolfclaw. You will be on the next Dawn Patrol. You will also advise Dawnblossom and Sandpaw that you are available to them for any herb-picking needs that might arise in the near future. The rest of you." He dropped his daughter's gaze and moved to observe the rest of them. "Once cleared by Dawnblossom, you will also report to Wolfclaw. If you are going to act like apprentices, you will be treated as such. You are not to leave the camp without instruction. Wolfclaw will assign you to duties as he sees fit."
He glanced to his deputy, who nodded just so. "If you wish to join a patrol for which you are not scheduled, you are to request it from myself, Wolfclaw, or, in the event of our absences, Eagletalon. Should you wish to contest your sentencing in a civilized discussion, I'm sure you're all aware of where you may find me. I do not want to hear anymore of this until after sunrise. You are all dismissed. Follow Wolfclaw straight to camp." Rising to his paws, he stepped to the side to let the march of warriors begin.
They fell into line behind the StoneClan deputy, directed the short way back to camp. He was certain Wolfclaw would ensure they all visited Dawnblossom and Sandpaw tonight. As the small hollow cleared of young ears, the large tom's haunches dropped to the ground with a long side. "Eagletalon." He rasped, voice drained of all previous anger. "Why does StarClan test us so in the form of young, rebellious minds?" There was a hint of tired laughter in his voice, an attempt at a joke falling flat with the weight of his exhaustion. 74 Moons // Tom // Senior Warrior // StoneClan Eagletalon touched his tail to Hawkstar's shoulder, watching the single-file line of young warriors follow Wolfclaw back to camp. Their reprimand had been well deserved. That didn't mean he couldn't chuckle a little, finding a bit of light humor in a dark situation. "Because old ones like us know better. We have to keep them on the right path so they end up just as old as we are." Eagletalon looked at his brother, mirth glinting in liquid amber eyes.
"StarClan knows I would've done something like that at his age. Stars, I would've probably gone right to LightningClan's camp and taken all my friends with me." Eagletalon could only shake his head, half-annoyed, half-amused by old memories. He'd been a fool of a young tom, living moment by moment, barely able to think beyond the next couple of days. His ability to look into the future, to make plans, were pretty much non-existent.
At least the young cats' hearts had been in the right place. Eagletalon knew without having to analyze himself too much that he would've challenged LightningClan as a young tom purely for the thrill of it. For 'pay back', not something anywhere near as noble as trying to restore the Clan's honor and standing.
"You still made the right decision to wait, Hawkstar," he mused after a while. "We'll gather our strength, and then LightninClan won't know what hit them."
Making plans to check in with Dawnchaser later on, Eagletalon rose to his paws, prepared to walk home with Hawkstar, side by side, like always. --- Word Count: 259 Words Tags: BlooRey DVD Notes: Done?

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains The touch to his shoulder drew the sandy tom's attention, meeting his friend's strong gaze with with a tired smile. Returning the touch with his own tail, Hawkstar managed a rumbling laugh. "You're probably right. And I'd have been stuck trying to drag you back out by your tail. StarClan, I probably would have wound up like Honeynose and Herondive; caught in the middle of it because I tried to stop you." His pale gaze drifted to where the line of young cats had disappeared, tail tip twitching thoughtfully. He'd relieve them of their duties soon. Let them learn their lesson first.
Flicking his tail tip, Hawkstar bobbed his head along to Eagletalon's words. "Let's just hope it hits them before another group of young minds decides to take matters into their own paws." With a motion of his muzzle, the StoneClan figurehead signaled to his friend that they should move forward. "Let's return home." And the two brothers padded back toward camp, a slow pace side by side. No words needed to be exchanged; they took comfort in each other's presence, in each other's strength.
As he moved, the StoneClan figurehead couldn't help but glance up at the sky as night began to recede.
