He loved his clan, he really did, but ever since he'd become Bluejay's apprentice things had been different. He was a medicine cat apprentice now, someone that was made to heal and help and go to for health related things. He thought, perhaps, that he should have kept his inner turmoil to himself. He enjoyed the work, he enjoyed the challenge of it all, but he felt smothered by his clan. A medicine cat was someone you needed to protect because a clan without one would have heavy loss of life. Bluejay was young, and really had time to take with an apprentice, so there was really no need for him right now. He didn't question StarClan's choice, he just needed away from it sometimes. Falconstorm originally had only meant to walk the borders, to walk alone for a short time to clear his head. Instead his paws had taken him back to StarClan's Claws, back to the site of an encounter with a StoneClan she-cat. She'd been under attack from rogue cats that didn't want to hunt for themselves. She had been outnumbered and it was cold and he hadn't been able to keep himself out of it. A cat in need, regardless of clan, deserved some help. Besides, as a warrior he couldn't stand by and watch a bunch of codeless cats gang up on a clan cat, even one from a different clan than his own. He wondered how she'd healed, if her paws had been frosted, if she healed from what injuries she did have. So he'd come back here, though he knew it was unlikely he'd find her here. Still, it was far from home and it was quiet. And here, at least, he could think without having someone calling for his attention. He was the MCA, but he was still himself. He was more than the path he'd chosen, and the clan didn't seem to see that. Or perhaps he was just stressed. BlooRey DVD

HERONDIVE Steady paws led her along the StoneClan border, ears flicking lazily in the new cold. Her pelt was fluffed up against the chill, the StoneClan warrioress doing what she could to stay warm while searching out prey for the Clan. Blue eyes traveled the familiar territory, jaws parting to taste the air as she moved along. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't distracted. This had been the case for some time now. There had been a brief moment in Leafbare where she'd felt truly herself again; nothing could have ruined her sheer joy at seeing Honeynose finally earn her warrior name.
But other than that, she often found her mind wandering. Hunting was embarrassingly difficult these days; instead of focusing on successfully bringing home prey to feed the Clan, Herondive found herself doing exactly what she was doing now. Wandering aimlessly and wasting time. Sighing in disappointment at her own failings, Herondive shook out her pelt and pricked her ears once more. She was near the border with StarClan's Claws. Good, at least that means I have a lot of room to chase. She thought, senses still seeking out something to chase.
A grackle ruffled its feathers a few foxlenghts away, hopping along the scent marker identifying the end of StoneClan's land. Herondive dropped instinctively into a hunter's crouch, stilling her tail as she moved forward. The angle would be strange, but in favor of keeping herself upwind of the bird, she continued moving forward. She knew the terrain into StarClan's Claws well enough; she could manage a landing without any bodily damage. Or so she hoped. Guess I'll find out soon. She thought almost grimly, muscles bunching beneath her skin as she rocked back onto her haunches. The power released in an explosion of a jump, hurling the StoneClan warrior forward and startling the bird.
The grackles shrieked in alarm, but Herondive's jaws closed around its body mid jump, moments before she erupted from the cover of shrubbery and into StarClan's Claws. Her paws churned with her momentum, sliding down the frost slicked incline and not fighting it, lest she trip herself. Only slowing once she reached the base of the incline, Herondive dropped the bird to catch her breath, shaking out her coat in the process. It was here that a strange, but somehow familiar scent greeted her nose. Straightening in surprise, her blue eyes quickly scanned the surroundings, landing on a figure standing near the TreeClan border.

It wasn't until he heard his name that his head snapped up, ears swiveling and fur fluffing up for a moment in case he had to fight. What he saw smoothed that ruffled fur back down. "Herondive!" He greeted, loping over to join the she-cat at the bottom of the incline it seemed she'd just slid down. Stupid, late season frost. He was...oddly glad to see her. They weren't in each others territory, no law had been broken or trespass made, StarClan's Claws was neutral. He gave her a cursory look over and tipped his head. "Hunting again, I see. This time without complications of rogues, I would hope?" He kept a respectful distance between them. She wasn't part of his clan, and there was only so much one was allowed with a cat of a different clan. Still... "You look well. I'm glad to see you suffered no lasting damage from that incident in leafbare." He smelled like herbs now, but he wondered if she even knew he was a medicine cat's apprentice. Somehow, he hoped not. Pretending to just be two warriors accidently running into each other, though he was more than a warrior now, soothed his frayed nerves considerably. BlooRey DVD

HERONDIVE There was a strange falter in her heartbeat as the tom looked up and called out her name. She couldn't place why it made her feel so... Excited that he remembered her name, but she chose to ignore it for the time being, leaving her grackle on the ground as she took a few steps closer to the tom loping her way. When he commented on the fact she was hunting, the StoneClan warrioress couldn't help the sheepish look that washed over her features. Surely he didn't need to know that this was the only piece of prey she had to show despite having left camp before sunhigh?
"Oh, uh yeah, hunting again.. Not much else to do in the life of a warrior." She offered, doing her best to sound laid back as she chuckled. Though the sound was tinged with awkwardness, it was still light, and likely her most genuine laugh in some time. "And... So far no rogues in sight. A... welcome break." When he commented on her well-being, the she-cat glanced down to her paw instinctively. She'd twisted a paw in the battle against the rogues, but she'd been lucky enough that that had been her only major injury.
"Yeah, no, I'm good. Doing well. All... Thanks to you. I'd have been crowfood if... If you hadn't shown up when you did." There was a slight pause in her speech before she picked up again. "Thank you, by the way. I... Wasn't thinking that day, challenging those rogues like that. You really saved my tail. You weren't injured in that battle, were you? I didn't mean to get anyone involved... Especially not another Clan." There was a pinprick of worry in her voice, the same reflected in her bright blue eyes as she watched him curiously.
The scent of herbs drifted from his pelt, something she hadn't remembered being so obvious last time. It peeked her curiosity, the she-cat idly wondering if he'd been injured recently and forced to stay in the medicine cat den. warrior of stoneclan Justice | background image | table by phoenix Note: 24 moons

"Hunting has been much better since leafbare passed. Leafbare seems like its getting steadily worse each season, but that may just be be." He sat down where he'd stopped near her, folding his tail around his paws. "As fluffy as I am, the cold doesn't really bother me. I just worry about the kits getting sick, you know?" He enjoyed kits, though he'd never have any of his own with his current path, so there was that. Falconstorm lifted a paw for a second then put it down, sighing. "I would never leave someone to such a terrible fate. In the end, I'm glad to have been of service." He passed a paw over the top of his head and ears, pressing down his fluffed out fur. He was feeling self-concious today, for some reason. "You would have figured something out, though you would likely have lost that mouse." He gave a low chuckle. "I was and am just fine. Thankfully I was nearly twice the size of most of them, and that helped considerably." He was a big tom, and made no secret of how much he enjoyed that fact. Most of the time. "I appreciate your concern." He sighed and stood up again, looking around the area in search of something to talk about. "Its odd that we keep running into each other here, isn't it? I honestly don't usually come here. But I'm not complaining." BlooRey DVD

HERONDIVE As the TreeClan tom spoke of kits, Herondive nodded her head in understanding. Though StoneClan hadn't born many kits this past Leafbare, there were other cats she'd been concerned about in the cold moons. "Some of my closest friends... The cold is difficult for them in terms of breathing. I spend a lot of time worrying about the two of them, wishing I could be stronger. Do something for them." Her ears tipped back on her head, the cream and white she-cat suddenly confused as to why in the name of StarClan she'd revealed that little fact to the tom.
Thankfully, he continued speaking, turning the conversation toward the event during which they'd first met once more. Her ears relaxed against her head, the StoneClan warrioress listening politely to what Falconstorm had to say. She smiled as he commented on his size, her own blue-eyed gaze drifting to her paws a moment. "Yeah, certainly gave you an advantage, especially considering you had to fight the most competent of them. Weird but... I barely notice. I know I'm pretty much average myself but... I guess seeing and interacting with m-" She paused a moment on the thought, before transitioning into another sentence.
"With Hawkstar every day gets you accustomed to a... Larger presence." Her tail tip twitched pleasantly as she spoke, the wariorress hoping he'd let her faltered sentence slip away unnoticed. She wasn't sure he knew she was the daughter of StoneClan's figurehead. If he didn't know.. She'd like to keep it that way. It was off-putting to some, and for some reason, she didn't want to lose the ease of conversation she felt with him. The strange spell that had settled over them shivered briefly as he rose to his paws, drawing her ears forward in mild alarm.
Feeling as though she should be standing too, Herondive rose to her paws. Her bright blue eyes followed his gaze a moment, before focusing on him again as his voice greeted her once more. "I... I used to avoid this place, if I'm honest. Reminds me of Gatherings, and I'm not necessarily a fan. But... It's a quiet place, not often visited by others. I guess my paws take me here when I'm looking to just... Get away." She hesitated a moment, casting a glance his way in her peripherals. "But in a way.. I'm glad to not be completely alone."
She meowed, rushing her next sentence to try and better explain herself. "It's nice to be able to talk to someone who doesn't really... Know me? StarClan above, I'm talking nonsense, aren't I?" She muttered to herself, her blue eyes falling to her paws again, which kneaded the frosted ground uncertainly. warrior of stoneclan Justice | background image | table by phoenix Note: 24 moons

Falconstorm34 MOONS, MEDICINE CAT APPRENTICE OF TREECLAN "Sometimes, the only thing we can do for those that can't stand the cold is keep them warm. I spent many leafbare nights in the nursery for that exact reason. As warm as the nursery stays, fragile kits need all the help they can get." He tipped his head at her and considered what she'd said. "There's a TreeClan apprentice that's very sickly. I keep a very close eye on him. But...its been my experience that those that start out weak tend to be stronger than all of us in different ways."
He pretended like the knowledge he was offering her was offhand, that it wasn't a serious breach of trust to reveal the weakness within his own clan. But she didn't seem like she was fishing for such sensitive information so it was alright somehow.
"They were desperate for food, so I think none of them were at their best." If they had been even with his size, it would have been a terrible fight.
He had to laugh at her comment regarding the leader of StoneClan. "Yes, he certainly is an impressive cat." Hawkstar was very large, though coming from a TreeClan cat that wasn't saying too much. "Lionstar, I think, is more fluff than size. Just don't let him hear you say so."
Falconstorm sighed and finally lay down on the ground so as not to seem as much of a threat to the she-cat. "I like coming here when things get too hectic at home, since like you said no one is here unless there's a gathering happening." He patted a paw next to him, using his tail to sweep aside the layer of frost on the ground. "You don't have to stand, if you don't want. I was just looking for danger." Not altogether true, but it was something that had been good to do anyway, so far from home.
He smiled again, regarding the she-cat warmly. It was odd, not feeling the need to fight with a rival clancat. "It makes perfect sense to me."

HERONDIVE "Not a word from my mouth." She promised, the cream and white StoneClan she-cat watching as the tom sunk back to the ground. She was still smiling softly at his comment about Lionstar being more fur than bulk. TreeClan's lion-like figure head always made for an impressive image, but he showed a different strength than that which she saw in her father. Whereas Lionstar's strength burned fierce and bright like the sun, Hawkstar demonstrated the strength of the mountains; quiet, but sturdy and ever-present. Falconstorm's voice pulled her from the her contemplative thoughts, bright blue eyes refocusing on her current companion.
Knowing he understood her feelings on escaping her own Clan... For some strange reason, it brought a surge of reassurance to her chest. She'd been worried he'd think her strange, yet he felt the same way. His paw's motion drew her attention, and she hesitated uncertainly a moment. Her fur warmed inexplicably as he swept his tail over the ground, sweeping away the top-most layer of frost to create a more welcoming patch of earth for her to settle upon. She stepped toward him slowly, sturdy StoneClan paws testing the indicated earth as she search for the perfect spot to settle down.
Powerful hind legs folded beneath her as she dropped into a sit, letting her forepaws slide out from under her. Her previously caught prey lay a few tail lengths away, out of the way yet close enough she could defend it should the need arise. But the prey was otherwise forgotten as she shifted into a more comfortable position, subconsciously ensuring their fur did not brush despite their closeness. Momentarily, her thoughts drifted to how easy it would be for her to imagine he was just one of her Clanmates, and not a warrior from an opposing Clan.
Clearing her throat softly to force herself out of her thoughts once more, she let her blue eyes drift across the clearing as though she too was scanning for danger. With nothing drawing her attention, she returned her gaze to the white-faced tom. "I'm... Glad you think it makes perfect sense. I probably spend too much time worrying I'll say something that'll make someone look at me like I've grown a third ear." She laughed almost nervously, busying herself with drawing little lines in the frost by flexing her claws. "Things like.. The question I'm about to ask you. Do you have a favorite type of prey?"
Her fur warmed again, unsure as to what in StarClan's name possessed her to ask such a kit-like question. But honestly? This tom drew her curiosity. She found she wanted to know more about him, despite not knowing why. Even if that something was something as silly as his favorite thing to eat. warrior of stoneclan Justice | background image | table by phoenix Note: 24 moons

He chuckled first at her comment about her worrying and then at the very innocent question she asked him. He tipped his head and smiled, feeling something inside of him settle and soothe out in a way it hadn't been in a long time. He felt, perhaps for the first time in awhile, at peace. "I get that reaction sometimes, when I ask a question and everyone thinks its something that should be obvious." He shook his head. "I like birds the best, mostly for the challenge there is in catching them. You can't pass apprenticeship without being able to climb a tree. So bird catching goes along with that." At least that was how he'd been taught. He sighed, looking up at the sky. "I should be getting back soon, they'll send a patrol after me if I'm not back by sundown. I look forward to seeing you again." He flicked his tail so that it brushed against her side. "I'll come here when I can, maybe we'll encounter each other that way again soon. Be well Herondive." HERONDIVE Birds. Birds are his favorite type of prey. For a reason likely unknown even to StarClan, that little fragment of knowledge created a flutter of joy through her chest. His explanation for it made perfectly logical sense too, but she was too wrapped up in knowing that his favorite type of prey was the same as her favorite type of prey. Smiling at him she replied softly. "In StoneClan, we're typically forced to leap after them. No trees to climb to get them." With hind legs built for propelling herself into the air, Herondive was good at it, and therefore quite enjoyed it too.
Her face fell fractionally as Falconstorm mentioned that he should be heading home. She glanced toward where her grackle lay a tail-length away and felt a small pang of guilt. She should be returning to StoneClan too; she'd been out far too long as it was, with only a single grackle to show for it. She definitely should have caught much more than that by now, but her mind had proved quite the distraction. Despite the dismay at having to depart, her heart fluttered strangely in her chest as he continued. He looks forward to seeing me again!
Now, there was a chance he was simply being polite; that was something polite you said to others when leaving. But thinking about it as something he truly meant... It made Herondive feel a little more lively that she had in moons. With a smile returning to her features, she nodded her head. "I'll.. Come by here when I can too. Take care, Falconstorm and... I too look forward to seeing you again soon!" Stooping to pick up her grackle, she began padding away, hesitating to glance over her shoulder at him. One final wave of her tail bid him farewell before she picked up speed and scaled the incline out of the StarClan's Claws clearing and back into StoneClan territory.
A smile bordering on a goofy grin nearly caused her to drop the grackle mid run. She couldn't ignore the way her fur prickled excitedly where his tail had brushed against her shoulder as they'd said goodbye. warrior of stoneclan Justice | background image | table by phoenix Note: 24 moons
