Curled beside his best friend and mate, Hawkfall nuzzled the soft fur of Shadowdance for a moment. He almost didn't want to get up and face the cold howling wind outside, but Hawkfall had promised his apprentice he'd take her out training. His maw opened wide in a yawn before he clapped it shut, rising up out of his shared nest. A final parting glance to his sleeping mate's form, Hawkfall smiled. It was all new to him, to consider Shadowdance his mate. New to him in a way Shadowdance was still his best friend, but the stolen gestures of affection made the relationship unique.
Without a goodbye, Hawkfall left the warrior's den to brave the cold wind of the outside. He wasn't a fan of the wind considering it bit at his face and made it difficult to see. But the wind itself wasn't a challenge. StoneClan was at the base of the mountain and often times cold winds would travel down and chill the hardiest of StoneClan warriors.
Not bothering to waste too much time, Hawkfall made his way to the apprentice den and poke his head inside, searching for the form of Cricketpaw among all the tests. Once he pinpointed the apprentice he careful moved into the den to gently move her awake with a brush of his paw.
"Cricketpaw, time for your last battle training. You can invite along a sparring partner if you want," Hawkfall told her before leaving the den to stand and wait near the camp entrance. He would provide Cricketpaw a chance to eat a meal if she wanted, otherwise the two, possibly three cats would walk to the sandy plateau.

Birds-eye view, awake the stars 'cause they're all around you 9 Moons : She-Cat : ApprenticeCricketpaw felt a paw gently pushing at her, and in response immediately turned over onto her side and arhced her back sleepily. She blinked open her eyes tofind her mentor who was already mid-sentence. Suprised, the young she-cat immediately scrambled to her paws, ears flickering with embarassment, and avoiding looking directly at her mentor.
"M-morning. Uh okay, I'll see who's around."
He left then, before she could say anything more, and she stared at her paws for a moment. Her embarassment however was soon forgotten and replaced with excitement and elation. Her last battle training! Soon she could be a warrior, just like her brother.
And then she realized she knew exactly who she should take with her. Cricketpaw turned and poked her sister, harder than she might have intended.
"Honeypaw, Honeypaw! Hawkfall is taking me out for battle training and told me to bring a partner. Want to come?"
As she spoke, her stomach complained with a little gurgle and she giggled.
"Okay, maybe we should stop for some prey first, so we dont go into battle on an empty stomach. So are you coming Honeypaw?"
Cricketpaw was nearly bouncing on her toes from excitement.

Honeypaw slept like a bear with hearing problems. There could've been a thunderstorm going on outside and she would have been none the wiser, lost in her dreams of chasing mice and going to gatherings (some of which she may or may not've been leading herself). Only a few persistent prods from Cricketpaw broke through her slumber, and she sat up, drowsy, with twitching whiskers and flat ears, as if trying to hold on to the last vestiges of sleep.
When the words sunk in, her yellow-green eyes grew round, quickly blinking away any sand that had collected in the corners. "Sure! I have a lot to show you, Ospreywing's been working with me a lot lately." Honeypaw's tone was light, and her words were positive, but she hid a few unpleasant memories behind them. The last battle training session with Ospreywing had ended in an argument about StormClan, and she had been forced to confront the truth that she and Ospreywing just didn't see eye to eye on the other Clans.
She couldn't stay upset for long, however, even if she had a lot on her mind right now. The promise of fresh kill on a cold morning was worth getting out of her nest. With a quick shiver to rid herself of any moss bits and twigs, Honeypaw trotted after Cricketpaw to the fresh kill pile, seeming to siphon some of her sister's energy with each paw step.
"Is Hawkfall a good mentor?" She mewed brightly, her heart panging with joy at the chance to catch up with her littermate. "He seems really nice! Does he ever talk about RainClan?" His mother had been StoneClan's deputy before Hawkstar, and her departure from the Clan to join her mate in RainClan had been a huge scandal. Sometimes the elders still grumbled about it, and Honeypaw couldn't help soaking up any gossip she heard.
For the tabby and white she-cat, it didn't make her think any less of Hawkfall. He was a StoneClan cat, and her sister's mentor; that meant he was good in her book. Honeypaw's personal approach to others was to keep an open heart, and so far she hadn't been burned yet.

Birds-eye view, awake the stars 'cause they're all around you 9 Moons : She-Cat : ApprenticeCricketpaw nodded quickly, trotting off as soon as her sister was on her paws. This would be great! At least her opponent would be someone her age, and maybe even someone her skill level. Honeypaw would be a lot better than Valerianleap. He was her brother sure, but he was also a bit harsh.
Her sister followed her to the freshkill pile, and just as Cricketpaw had managed to snap up a piece of prey, Honeypaw asked what Hawkfall was like as a mentor. Halfway through a bite, Cricketpaw took a second to swallow and then answered with a quick look around to make sure the tom wasnt hovering.
"He's not a bad mentor, just pretty busy. I mean he has a mate now, it cant be fun having to take me out for training instead of spending time with him. But that will be over soon I think. We'll be warriors before we know it, and maybe this sparring session will be our last one as apprentices!"
Cricketpaw grinned, pushing a piece of prey towards her sister.
"Let's eat, Im ready to go!"
She wolfed down her food, tail tip twitching with anticipation, before standing by her sister as she waited for her to finish. She glanced over at Hawkfall signally with her head she was ready to go and he could lead the way.

He nodded as Cricketpaw went to find a partner. As he waited the brown tabby tom began to wipe away the lingering bits of sleep from his face. He kept getting distracted by his desire to return to his nest and sleep into the late hours of the day. Leafbare made him sleepy, he blamed it easily on the cloudy weather.
Hawkfall watched for a brief moment as Cricketpaw manged to catch up with Honeypaw. Hawkfall waited as the two she-cats made their way to the freshkill pile. He was pleased that Cricketpaw would have a sparing partner, it was better then her going against him. He had years of experience over the she-cat and his added bulk would make the two of the sparring very one-sided.
Seeing that Cricketpaw was ready, Hawkfall rose to his paws and flicked his tail for the she-cats to follow.
"Hurry along, we don't want to take all day,"] Hawkfall stated before he picked up his pace and trotted toward the sandy plateau.
Upon arriving at the designated training ground, Hawkfall paused and directed the two she-cats to sit across from him.
"Alright, so this is the last of Cricketpaw's battle training. The two of you will spar. Remember no claws and careful of drawing blood. You will go on my count. Remember, right now you aren't siblings you are rivals. Protecting your Clan with your life." Hawkfall explained, moving to be a few tail lengths from the she-cats. He mentally counted in his head to ten to ensure they had enough time to also prepare themselves mentally.
"Go!" He meowed watching with careful green eyes.

No sooner had Honeypaw swallowed the last of her finch then Hawkfall was already leading them towards the Sandy Plateau. All remaining dregs of sleep cast off, Honeypaw gently nudged her sister's shoulder with her own, the friendly light in her eyes enough to convey her excitement. They'd never had a practice fight before; truth be told, Honeypaw felt better fighting her sister than some other cat. It wasn't that they wanted to hurt each other, it's that she knew Cricketpaw wouldn't get carried away. Or competitive and try to make her look foolish or trip her so she fell flat on her whiskers.
It would be a fair fight, for sure!
"Alright, so this is the last of Cricketpaw's battle training. The two of you will spar. Remember no claws and careful of drawing blood. You will go on my count. Remember, right now you aren't siblings you are rivals. Protecting your Clan with your life."
Honeypaw's eyes widened, looking at Cricketpaw with a purr of surprise. Her last training session? Already? I'll do my very best, then. The last thing the tabby and white she-cat ever wanted was to disappoint Cricketpaw or not put all her heart into making this a good mock battle. Making sure to stretch first, Honeypaw bounced on her toes, warming up her muscles before taking up position where Hawkfall had directed.
"Ready?" She mouthed to her sister, but the StoneClan warrior had already given them the signal, and Honeypaw - rarely the first to lash out - waited, one paw partially off the ground to see what her sister was going to do first. I'll bet she's really fast. Or she can leap really well. With a nervous twitch of her tail, Honeypaw darted forward then back-stepped almost as quickly, trying to antagonize Cricketpaw into making the first move.

Birds-eye view, awake the stars 'cause they're all around you 9 Moons : She-Cat : ApprenticeCricketpaw followed her mentor dutifully, with a bounce in her step. But she was quiet and her tail twitched uncertainly. This was it, this was her last training session before her assessments, and she was fighting her sister! Maybe she should have thought this through a bit more. Her brother would have laughed at her and told her to suck it up.
When they arrived at the sandy plateau, Cricketpaw stood off to one side, her fur prickling uncomfortably and her claws sliding in and out of her paws. Hawkfall made his quick speech, and Cricketpaw caught her sister's glance. It made Cricketpaw almost shrink. She hoped that Honeypaw would be made a warrior too, but she didnt know what her sister's training was looking like, since she had changed mentors a couple times.
When Hawkfall called the start, Cricketpaw froze for a second, her mind going blank.
When Honeypaw made a move though, Cricketpaw reacted immediately. As her sister stepped back, Cricketpaw darted forward, hoping to shove her and catch her off balance. It was hard to keep her claws sheathed, but she managed, and once she was up close, aimed for her sister's feet to drive her further and further back and press her own advantage. At this point there was no backing off, and she realized that she might have made a mistake by closing so early. Depending on how Honeypaw responded, Cricketpaw guessed they might end up grappling.

The instant that Cricketpaw started towards her, retaliating exactly how she'd expected - all the training she'd ever had seemed to flow right out of her head. Honeypaw skittered back, kicking up a loose bit of sand as she tried not to lose her footing on the wide, flat plateau. Ears burning with embarrassment, Honeypaw tried to save face by batting at her sister's neck and shoulder. Determined to let her gain no more ground, Honeypaw's heart was beating as fast as a hummingbird's wings. Secretly, she was relieved that Vipertail and Valerianleap were nowhere near the training area.
Stop thinking of her as your sister, think of her as your enemy!
Enemy. Cricketpaw was her enemy. No, not Cricketpaw - Locustpaw. Locustpaw from NightClan. Having to engage both the creative part of her brain and the rational part to really get into the right mindset, Honeypaw let out a hiss for effect. What if I try to knock her over? StoneClan cats had strong legs, everyone knew that. Strong paws from leaping over rocks and boulders, and climbing steep hilly land. Honeypaw tried to improvise, by darting to the side and getting her head under her sister's belly - trying to flip her like a turtle.
It wasn't the wisest strategy, but Honeypaw could only think and plan so quickly.

Hawkfall didn't know it was like to spar with a sibling. In fact Hawkfall didn't have many friend growing up but that didn't matter anymore. He was happy.
Watching as Honeypaw prepared for her sister's attack, Hawkfall let a smile warm his face as Cricketpaw moved forward. Even if it felt strange for the two of them. Hawkfall's own warrior training happened intermittently because of that fact that StoneClan had taken refuge in the mountains. The brown tabby was glad that neither of the she-cats in front of him knew the struggle that was living in the mountains.
He was impressed with Honeypaw's skill. Even if Cricketpaw was closer to being made a warrior, Hawkfall wouldn't be surprised if they were named at the same time. His green eyes studied them for a moment. He considered for a brief moment to call out some pointers for them both, but he decided to wait until one of them pinned the other.
