Warrior of RainClan. She-Cat. 20 Moons
Owlflight was having a bit of a bad day.
She had headed out to hunt early that morning, eager to try and gather some food before leaf-bare started to really sink its claws into the land. She had started out bright and chipper, had managed to catch a few unsuspecting voles that were sluggish with their impending hibernation, but then it had happened.
The hare.
This little ground-rat had had the audacity to bite her on the nose as she had caught it, and then had wriggled out of her grasp as she had yowled in pain, skittering off into the distance. It had been wounded however, and Owlflight had felt that this was personal. With her nose still smarting, the she-cat had begun to track the wounded rodent as it limped along, eyes narrowed in a silent vengeance.
The tracks were easy enough to follow, and with a hare being large enough to feed several cats, Owlflight wasn't going to let herself give up easily. As time had gone on she had drawn closer and closer to it, with the hare growing weaker with each passing hour. She had managed to track it to the stream close to camp, and with a hardened glee she saw salvation before her. Revenge on that dratted beast.
With a leap, she jumped onto its back, dealing the final blow before bouncing back on her paws with an uncharacteristic show of outward emotion,
"TAKE THAT YOU DAMN FURBALL! THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR BITING ME ON THE FOX-DUNGING NOSE!"
She puffed a little, gathering herself
"WHOO!"

Creamy, fawn colored paws itched to be out of camp just then. Her heart beat a strange tattoo in her chest, restlessness prickling through her fur as though something were crawling on her. With an uncomfortable shiver, Minnowsplash rose from her nest almost as though her rear end were on fire. Half-skipping, half falling out the den's entrance, she spared a moment to readjust herself, lest she fall face forward into the dirt. Flicking her tail in embarrassment, she glanced around to identify anyone who might have seen her. She noticed a soft smile and a shake of the head from the elder's den, but...
I think I'm in the clear? She thought to herself, slinking forth with her ears against her head. Still itching for something more than wallowing in camp, Minnowsplash sought out white fur, although... She couldn't decide what color eyes she wanted to meet. There was always a deep longing somewhere in her to see those stunning, ice blue eyes she knew to belong to Coldrush... But he always seemed so distant. The gentler, greeny eyes of Shellstep, on the other paw, were welcoming, and he'd once shown what she thought to be genuine concern for her.
She'd promised him not to go off into the territory alone, and she intended to uphold that promise. It was only logical she be searching him out then, right? They'd made a playful little pact after all. Despite her yearning, white pelts seemed to remain out of sight today. With a defeated sigh, Minnowsplash paused, uncertainty filtering through her. She couldn't just do nothing. ...Surely visiting the camp stream's edge wouldn't upset Shellstep, right? She'd be close by, close enough to be heard if she needed any help. Deciding that was a good alternative, Minnowsplash padded just outside of the camp's main area, keeping to the water's edge.
Swishing a paw in the cool waters, Minnowsplash found herself reassured by the gentle rustle of water tumbling over itself. It wasn't long before she lost track of how long she spent staring into the little rapids, and StarClan knew how long she might had remained there had it not been for a slight commotion on the other side of the river. Gently roused from her dream world, Minnowsplash was in the process of dragging her gaze up to investigate the shuffling sound she'd heard when a voice split through the silence.
"TAKE THAT YOU DAMN FURBALL! THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR BITING ME ON THE FOX-DUNGING NOSE!"
Had it been physiologically possible, the RainClan warrioress would have leapt straight out of her fur. Constrained as she was, however, Minnowsplash was left only to leap, and to leap surprisingly high and off balance. "AH!" She cried in alarm, her body twisting mid-flight as she struggled to right herself... Only to stumble and fall face-first into the river when she did land. An onslaught of ungraceful flailing betrayed her location to any bystanders, the she-cat desperate to get out of the chilly waters, and get out fast.
Gasping for air as she scrabbled to the opposing bank (turning around hadn't even crossed her mind at this point), Minnowsplash clawed her way out after a few more moments spent unintentionally rolling about in the stream. Wide-eyed and wet fur sticking on end, she glanced around wildly to see.... "O-Owlflight? StarClan above, I think I left my fur on the other s-side of the r-river!" She mewed, teeth chattering slightly with the leftover adrenaline and cold. Flopping into a graceless sit, Minnowsplash let the water drip out of her fur as she struggled for breath. "A-Are... You okay?" |

Warrior of RainClan. She-Cat. 20 Moons
It was Owlflight's turn to be startled. The warrior hadn't noticed Minnowsplash while she'd been wrestling with the hare and yowling her triumph, and as the other warrior fell into the river Owlflight gasped in shock, her own fur fluffing up in alarm as she saw Minnowsplash thrashing around in the water.
Is she okay!?
She thought, rushing up to the side of the river as Minnowsplash clawed her way out and onto the bank, looking like a drowned rat and twice as startled.
"I- I- Erm"
Owlflight stammered, caught off-guard by the situation as she tried to piece together what had happened. She had had no idea that she was so close to camp, and she was ashamed that someone had seen her have an emotional outbreak like that.
"I'm fine Minnowsplash. I just- erm- I don't like hares."
She managed, hoping that it would all just be left at that.
"Are YOU okay? You must be freezing, I'm so sorry I scared you like that- I- I'm never normally- Ah-"
She mewed, trying to change the topic as she padded forwards to lick Minnowsplash's fur, brushing it roughly and in the wrong direction in order to puff it up and dry it faster.
"Just look at you. I'm so sorry."
She mumbled between licks, genuine worry for her clan mate colouring her voice and she bustled around Minnowsplash with a motherly air.

A smile tinged with equal part sheepishness and embarrassment pulled at Minnowsplash's lips. Ducking her head as the other she-cat began furiously licking her pelt dry, the she-cat stammered out a response. "I'm f-fine, really. I.. Should have been paying more attention.. G-Got caught up in my own world again..!" Laughing almost nervously, Minnowsplash dropped her shoulders slightly in an attempt at keeping Owlflight's rasping tongue away from them. "J-Just... Watch the shoulders... Petalfall did quite a number on them..." Her voice fell away as she spoke, weighed down by the sadness she felt so often when thinking about RainClan's recent betrayal. She still couldn't believe it had happened.
Figuring she might as well help out, the fawn-colored she-cat ducked her head to lick at the sodden fur on her chest. Owlflight was helping her warm up though, the steady friction doing wonders to aid her RainClan pelt in drying even more rapidly. With every rasp, Minnowsplash's chattering teeth seemed to die down, until the she-cat stopped altogether. Rising to her paws, she purred her thanks to the slightly older warrioress. "Thanks, Owlflight! That's much better now." With a quick shake to let her coat find its natural orientation again, Minnowsplash blinked off-green eyes at her Clanmate.
She hesitated a moment, her tail flicking uncertainly behind her as she seemed to weigh her words. "Hey, um... I don't know if you'll think this weird but it... Feels like the right thing to do? You'll probably just say you were 'just doing your job as a Clanmate', but... Thank you, for saving me. First when Leopardyowl tried to grab me after.. Duckquack..." She swallowed then, recalling the horror they'd witness that day. "And... Again in the final battle not too long ago... Petalfall would have done way worse if you hadn't jumped back in..." |

Warrior of RainClan. She-Cat. 20 MoonsOwlflight kept away from Minnowsplash's shoulders as requested, letting out a quiet indraw of breath followed by a sigh,
"I know what you're talking about. She bit rather deep into my leg, I still feel like I can't quite walk right."
She mewed, glad as Minnowsplash joining in with the task of drying her off. There was something oddly therapeutic about sitting down and sharing tongues, and she let her mind drift of a little while they finished the task. The river sounds calmed her, and she let herself move past the initial embarrassment of Minnowsplash having heard her lose her cool, and as the other warrior got up with a purr of thanks, Owlflight smiled back calmly, body barely moving to betray anything that she may be thinking.
She glanced at Minnowsplash, noting that she seemed to be feeling rather awkward, and raised her brows in surprise at what she had to say,
"You thank me? Bless you Minnowsplash, but if you hadn't smashed into Petalfall in the first place she would have had her teeth in my neck for sure."
She mewed, taking a step towards her clan mate and raising her tail,
"You're welcome, but I owe you as much as you owe me. It's been an awful past moon or so, and I'm really grateful that I've had cats like you standing by me."
She dipped her head as she said it, voice level and cool,
"How have you been holding up by the way? I know it's technically over, but StarClan knows that kind of bloodshed isn't going to be forgotten in a hurry."

With a sheepish smile, Minnowsplash flattened her ears against her skull. "To be honest..." She mewed quietly, off-green eyes glancing to the side embarrassedly. "I'm surprised I did that. I... I'm not really that brave, and tackling cats in the heat of battle is really not something I ever e-expected to do..." Lowering herself into a thoughtful sit, Minnowsplash curled her tail tightly around her paws. "But I guess... I just kn-knew I had to do something to help you. Kind of like... I'm not that great a hunter when I'm really trying to do something but... If a fish surprises me, I somehow manage to strike it clear of the river and onto the bank!"
With a nervous laugh, she ducked her head, clearing her throat to kill the sound when Owlflight spoke up again. Uncertainty flickered in Minnowsplash's eyes then, the RainClan she-cat's gaze dropping to focus on her paws. "I.. I'm okay, I guess? I mean... Things are really different now.. The whole Purists thing... I think it made things really hard on my brother. He... He's different. Angrier, I guess? I don't know... He's not the same, and that's kind of scary to me... I don't know what to say to him, you know?"
Shaking her head softly, she pawed at the ground below her absently. "And then there's the fact that some of the Purists are living among us again... I'm not saying I have a p-problem with them being pure blooded, and I know that... N-Not all of them knew what Leopardyowl and the o-others were doing, but... It's a little unsettling to th-think that.. There are those who believed in the division of pure blood versus not was... Was okay. I don't like it much at all..." She admitted with a sigh.
Flicking her ear, she spared the other she-cat another glance. "What about you..? How have you been holding up?" |

Warrior of RainClan. She-Cat. 20 MoonsThe corners of Owlflight's mouth twitched in a shadow of a smile and the grey tabby flicked her tail at her clanmate playfully,
"You'd be surprised what you're capable of. We aren't all born as confident as a crow."
She mrowed, pausing as she listened to Minnowsplash talk of the Purists and nodding sombrely, a touch of sorrow chilling her heart like a shadow.
"I think we've all changed."
She mewed, surveying her clanmate sadly,
"After seeing what we saw, going through all that slaughter, and then the politics of everyone from both sides trying to live side by side again... I think it will be a very long time before any of us feel normal again."
She smiled sympathetically, noting the discomfort the whole topic brought to Minnowsplash,
"I understand what you mean though. I myself have a Purist apprentice now, and it has been hard for me to bring together the images of the massacres in my mind with the idea that Goldpaw is now under my wing."
She mused, mind flitting back to a conversation with Crowblaze,
"The best we can do is try to move on though. At least now we can settle these issues as a united clan, talking them through and living with each other instead of using mindless violence."
She glanced back at the water, flicking her ear in acknowledgement of Minnowsplash's question,
"Better than I was before, I think."
She paused, listening to the rippling of the currents for a moment before continuing,
"I fear I'm like your brother. I feel angry more than anything, but I'm hoping that time will soothe it."
