Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. The moon was high in the night sky, and by now it was well past midnight. The sky was clear, so the quarter moon that hung high above the StoneClan's camp illuminated enough light so that those few still awake wouldn't have to strain their eyes to see what was right infront of their noses. Few stars were out, due to said light, but those that were visible twinkled brightly, as if welcoming and passing gaze from the cats and other creatures below.
Talonfoot, a large brown tabby tom who was currently sitting in the middle of camp doing nothing but looking up at the sky, was normally a late sleeper, if he slept at all. Tonight was no exception. He was up again, wanting to be active, wishng he could be out on patrol or hunting with clan mates. While he was a full grown warrior and allowed to leave the camp to hunt any time he pleased, he didn't exactly want to hunt alone at night. He wasn't afraid, as that would be ludicrus, but he didn't want to go alone for an odd reason. Odd for him, anyway.
The tabbby warrior was more than often a very loner type of cat. He was quiet and never really had much to talk about, if he did have the odd urge to speak with a fellow warrior. He had always just spoke when spoken to, and kept everything short and down to the point. Now he found himself wishing he had company, of whom he didn't have any secifications for. He just wanted a cat to talk to and gaze up at the sky with him, whcich was all he was currently doing. Eyes glued to the sky as he glanced from star to star, and his tail wrapped neatly around his paws as he remained in a sitting position. His ear flicked as a moth fluttered by, heading upwards towards the light of the moon, and he pondered just how high up the silly creature would go before realizing that no mouth could ever go that high. They couldn't... could they? He quickly lost interest in the subject and sighed softly as he ripped his gaze away from the stars and began to groom himself. He would most likely head for a walk around the territory, a quick walk, and see if that helped him sleep in the slightest. It had a few times in the past, and walking around would be better than doing nothing but gawking up at the stars like a kit does to their first piece of fresh prey. HERONDIVE For most of the day, thick clouds had hung over the sky, blotting out much of the sunlight and making it a rather... Miserable day. Leaf-fall was at its peak, the leafy trees on the outer edges of StoneClan's territory dropping the last of their orange and red leaves. She'd even managed to find a leaf as far in as their camp entrance; the wind had picked up in the last few days, kicking up leaves from their home locations and transporting them further than they otherwise would have gone. Mild curiosity and a lack of anything better to do had drawn the she-cat to gently pick up the orange leaf from the ground in her teeth, carrying it to her nest.
She played absently with it now in the darkness, a paw gently batting it around her sleeping space. The white and cream she-cat did her best to keep the motions small, so as not to draw attention or wake a sleeping warrior. There was no point in keeping someone else awake just because she couldn't sleep. Silly little games only lasted so long, however, the blue-eyed warrioress watching with disinterest as the leaf tumbled over the edge of her nest to disappear somewhere.
For the briefest of moments, she contemplated laying her head down and actually getting some rest... Yet her paws yearned for something more. She'd barely left camp today, only doing so to hunt for the Clan. She didn't feel like she deserved to be resting, despite the time she'd spent covering up the drafts in the nursery and medicine cat's den with her friends Honeypaw and Hazelpaw. The warriors' den suddenly felt so much more confining, Herondive unable to push aside the urge to get out, and get out now.
Rising to her paws, she maneuvered carefully around the sleeping cats until she was free. She was surprised to find herself bathed in moonlight upon exiting the den, glancing up to see the dark clouds had migrated to one side of the sky, letting a shaft of light and a swathe of stars glitter in the night sky. It was rather pretty, and she was reminded briefly of watching the running stars with Hazelpaw and Honeypaw. Her tail twitched slowly behind her as she moved, muzzle still tilted up to Silverpelt as it stretched above her. It looks endless... She thought to herself.
Her distracted mind didn't immediately register the presence of another, not until she literally walked right by him. Starting slightly, she blinked at him, her creamy ears pricked in a perfect mirror of her alarm. She looked at him for a moment, her brilliant blue eyes searching his face as though it held the answer to all her life's problems, before her attention drifted back to the stars. "Oh... Hello, Talonfoot. Sorry... I didn't see you there. Apologies if I blocked your view." She meowed quietly, sidestepping so that she was no longer directly in front of him.
With an awkward twitch of her ear, she cleared her throat softly. "It's... Really pretty out." If that wasn't the lamest conversation starter to ever be offered up in the history of the valley, then she wanted to hear the worst. Because that was terrible. She winced inwardly. Why am I even trying? I'm not exactly a social butterfly! ...Too late to back out now. warrior of stoneclan @silverwing | background image | table by phoenix Note: 18 moons

Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. The dark tabby tom stopped his grooming to glance up at the she-cat before him. He was horrible with names, but it wasn't enteirly his fault. He didn't talk much and the rare times he did it was with patrols or simply making coments about a situation. The creamy she's name was on the tip of his tongue... "It's fine, Herondive, you didn't block my view." He said with a flash of a smile towards her, he was in a rather good mood considering how late it was and how badly he wished he could just fall asleep instead of feeling so energetic.
"It is pretty out tonight, I suppose." He wasn't one for scenery, but upon occasions like so he would ponder thnings and look up at the seemingly endless stretch of sky before him. It gave him something to do, at least, so he didn't have to sit up alone all night bored out of his head as if some newly made warrior on vigil, desperatly awaiting for the sun to rise so he could finally go about his buisness.
He could tell that she was uncomfortable with something at the way she cleared her throat, though he couldn't be sure on what it was. Perhaps she hadn't ment to start a conversation, or perhaps she wanted to keep it going? Too bad he couldn't read minds.
"It's rather chilly too, don't you think? The next few gatherings will be even colder... It will be odd, cuddling up with other clan's members to get warm on the full moon nights to come, but then again it's better than freezing your fur off." He smiled again, allowing it to stay this time as he flicked his tail, wrapping it around himself the other way. TAG: | WORDS: 311 | NOTES: MEL @ ADOXOGRAPHY

HERONDIVE For a moment, she thought the awkward conversation would end there. Five seconds before rising to her paws, however, the tabby tom spoke up again, leaving her muzzle to angle in his direction as she listened politely. The mention of Gatherings had her tail twitching unpleasantly, blue-eyed gaze returning to the sky above. With a derisive snort, Herondive let her needle sharp claws dig into whatever they could find purchase in on the stony ground. "Given a choice between freezing my fur off and 'cuddling' up to a bunch of LightningClan Clan cats?" She mewed evenly, though a hint of displeasure colored her words.
"I would gladly become a hairless cat." For a she-cat who'd been as curious and carefree as she in her younger years, there was a surprising amount of venom behind her words at the mention of the moorland-dwelling Clan. She no longer bothered containing her near-vengeful dislike for the LightningClan cats. The exception, of course, was when Hawkstar, Frozenrain, Wolfclaw or Eagletalon were present. She knew her father would not approve of such disdainful talk, the proud StoneClan leader more inclined toward pacifism than violence; and that included verbal. As for her mother, the Clan deputy and her former mentor... She feared they would end up telling Hawkstar.
With a forced exhale to calm her prickling fur, Herondive tried to push away her bitter feelings. Maybe this is why you have so few friends, Herondive. She scolded herself silently. It's a miracle that Honeypaw and Hazelpaw actually tolerate you, really. "Uh... Sorry Talonfoot, that was probably.. Inappropriate of me to say. It has quickly gotten colder, and I almost pity those who are selected for Gatherings to come." With a pause, she flicked her ear in something akin to amusement. "Just watch, Hawkstar will know I've said that, and I'll get dragged to a coming Gathering."
She paused a moment, mulling her words carefully as though unsure she should actually speak them. "I'm going to apologize again, Talonfoot, but... This is really off topic, yet I can't seem to shake the question. Do you ever think of anything, anything about the world, about your life, even about yourself, that... That you would change if you could?" Again, she found herself confused by the words tumbling out of her mouth. Talonfoot was a pawful of moons older than she was, the tabby tom having left the apprentice den around the same time she'd been born.
And yet... Talking, as awkward as she might feel, actually felt... Good? warrior of stoneclan @silverwing | background image | table by phoenix Note: 18 moons

Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. Talonfoot understood the she's little rant. Though he didn't completely understand the specific dislike for LightningClan. Probably because he was never one to gossip or ask other cats about what their buisness was. He was surprised that she had the feeling aswell, but he should expect something as such from a fellow warrior of StoneClan. He decided that he liked this she, so far anyway.
"No need to appologize, it's completely normal to think that way. The other clan's smell awuful and are all around unplesant." He let out a mrrow of amusement at the mention of Hawkstar choosing her for the next gathering. If the all justice leader found Herondive speaking such then he would most definetly sign her up for the next gathering, as he had done to Tallonfoot for something simmilar once before when he was still an apprentice.
"Don't worry. I won't tell on you." He said as if a kit keeping a secret, his ear twitched slightly and he raised a paw to his chops, licking his tongue over it beforre running it over his ears a few times. "I have very simmilar views anyway, though my focus is on all other clans or cats outside the clans, a bit more than the normal cat's simple disliking. I think it's safe to say I hate every one else. I sound like a gru,py elder, don't I?" He admitted openly, figuring she would understand the dislike.
Talonfoot was again surprised by the she's spoken words, though not sure why she kept saying sorry. Warriors were allowed to voice what was on their mind, and she was no exeption. Though the question was indeed something deeper to think about. Why was she asking it? He shifted his weight from paw to paw and lashed his tail before speaking, thinnking carefully about his words. This could be a piece of advice that she would remember.
"Well, there are lots of things I could change if I had that ability, I certainly wouldn't chnage myself. No one should be upset over who they are unless you're some merciless murderur. Simple things like I'd go back and change that one time I talked back to my mentor, or tell my self to stay downwind that oe time I missed a great catch... But no, things happen and we learn from them. Our choices, the choices of others, and the world around us is what shapes us and helps us grow as warriors. If I went back and changed how I talked back to my mentor... Well then I'd probably talk back to him some other time. If I went back and changed to downwind while hunting prey, I'd probably forget it instead of learning. See what I mean?" He was perplexed with himself. He didn't think he could go on like that over a simple question given to him by a young warrior that he hardly really knew. He was also proud of himself for being able to do it. That question was one that made him think for a moment, so it s=deserved such an answer. His amber eyes searched Herondive's expression and eyes. He wished he could see into her head and know how she took his words, but he just quietly awaited her to internally mull them over so and patiently waited for her to give some sort of responce. HERONDIVE Herondive's ear flicked as Talonfoot revealed his own ill thoughts concerning the various Clans of the forest. A silky tail waved behind her thoughtfully, blue eyes scanning the tom over before offering him a smile. "If you ask me... Most of the Clans are making it really easy to hate them. So... No, you don't sound like a grumpy elder. You just kinda... Sound like the thoughts I try not to voice in my head." Her shoulders lifted and fell in a shrug, muzzle turning back to the stars up above. They glittered in the darkness, their captivating nature enough to enchant the unsuspecting.
The white and cream she-cat felt only unease. How was it that, when her time came, she was supposed to join StarClan and exist with cats who'd sought to do her harm in the living world? How did that make any sense? She felt as though a stone were sitting heavy in her belly, the she-cat unable to hold back the sigh that escaped her. The cool night air collided with her warm breath to form a mist-like plume of steam that dissipated into the night. Talonfoot filled the silence between them again, the leader's daughter glancing his way to listen.
His words struck a chord with her. They made sense, and they sounded strangely like something Hawkstar would say. But making sense and easy to accept were two completely different things. She still wished she could change things, that she could end the tumultuous despair that plagued her day and night. The warrioress hesitated, analyzing her paws as though they might reveal some long-sought after answer. In the end, she slid down to the ground, her forepaws crossed before her as she lay down beside him. Her white chin slowly connected with her paws, blue eyes straining upwards to see the stars from where she lay.
"I know that we're shaped by the world around us. I know it makes us unique and it makes us who we are. But... What if you don't like who you've become? What if you don't like what the world has made you? ...What if you're scared you'll be stuck like this forever? Sometimes I wish none of the Clans existed. That we were all just... One Clan. Wouldn't that make it easier? We wouldn't feel hostile just because someone is from another Clan or this or that."
Her voice trailed into nothing, the she-cat's ear twitching again from where it sat atop her head. "Sorry... Don't really know why I told you all that. I must just sound like some sad, pathetic she-cat to you." warrior of stoneclan @silverwing | background image | table by phoenixWords used: #10 - enchant #19 - mist Note: 18 moons

Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. The tabby warrior wasn't usually one to sympathize, and he certainly was never one to be tender or show sympathy towards others, not since when he was little. He didn't think such things made cats weak, certainly not, he just didn't ever feel the need to be caring and gentle with words or actions. He certainly felt that way now. This she cat beside him sounded like she needed help. Not help in a battle, or help hunting, or hep with any manual duty. She needed guidence and advice. Advice that Talonfoot knew he would struggle to give. He wasn't good with words of a more gentle and meaning nature, and he was well aware of such things. Normally he wouldn't think twice to tell some cat to suck it up and deal with their problems, to get over it and know that they have something ahead of them if they're willing to acheive it. That kind of talk, those kind of speeches, were needed for apprentices or arragont warriors. He was utterly lost on how to try and work Herondive's emotions to underdtand, or how to work his words to make her feel better. His expression was blank for several moments. If he wanted to help, which he did, he would have to pry and ask questions, something he was sure this she-cat probabaly wouldn't be comfortable with doing. Best to try and see what he could get out of this... experience.
"You're a farily young warrior, I don't think you're pathetic at all. Right now you just seem a little lost, which is understandable. Think of it this way, you have a lot of time left ahead of you. I don't know what you could have done, or why you don't like what you've become, or if you're asking for some one else or what... But, it's never too late to change who you are as an individual." He said in a soft tone, slowly falling to his haunches besidethe creamy she warrior. The way this conversation was going, it felt like they mightbe there for a little while longer. May as well make himself comfortable. The second part was even more confusing. He again had to think over her words carefully. What if everything had all been just one clan? He interntally started making pros and cons list, and said it outloud as he thought.
"Somethings would be easier, I agree, but things would also be harder in some ways. We wouldn't have to worry about fighting other clans, or territory, and we'd be reat in numbers. But there are a good pawful of cons to a one-clan settlement as well. First off, one leader leading over all of those cats would just be one giant mess. Secondly, we would have to find one camp big enough for us all, thirdly, we would have to learn all the same battle moves, all the same huntig techniques, all the same every thing. We've been split for a reason, whatever that reason may be we will most likely find out when we reach our time among the stars." He glanced to either of his paws before he looked over to Herondive.
"You seem like a very bright warrior, who is just going through a rough spot. I'm not much one for helping with personal problems, but I don't mind listening and thowing in what I think... I hope I'm giving good answers to all of this, I don't want to upset you or offend you in any way." MEL @ ADOXOGRAPHY

HERONDIVE The tom's words seemed to placate the she-cat for a moment. She was quiet, her blue eyes staring at the rocky terrain stretching before her as she mulled over Talonfoot's words. The more private part of her begged her to stop talking, told her to just crawl back into her nest and pretend as though none of this had happened. Maybe if she did that, Talonfoot would also do the same, and she could continue her life as normal. But another part of her, curled in on itself as it was in the back of her mind, called out desperately for help, for an impartial observer to talk to.
And this is what she had found in Talonfoot. Just as she knew him by name and little else, he knew very little about her. He would not soften his words just because they were friends, or because he was her father's friend. To him, she was just another warrior, and it was relieving. Slowly, she peeled her muzzle off of her forepaws before tucking them closer to her. "You... Dislike the other Clans, yet you accept their existence, and the need for them..." She spoke each word carefully, as though trying to understand the meaning behind each one.
"That is both incredible and confusing." She admitted with the slightest laughter and shake of her head. "And I guess you're right about the one-Clan settlement; it would be pretty near impossible to control. But... I don't think we would all have to learn the same battle moves, despite being in the same Clan. We're all a little different, and we all have to develop our own little style anyway. I can't fight the same way my father or my mentor do. I probably can't fight the same way you do either. The ideas may be... Similar, but they aren't the same." She mewed quietly.
A creamy tail swished at her side thoughtfully, Herondive tilting her head up to gaze at the stars once more. "You say there is a reason we were divided as we were... I just wish I knew that reason. Maybe understanding could dull this... This... This." A paw reached out to motion vaguely, the she-cat unable to tack a word onto what she was feeling. "As for personal problems... Believe it or not, I'm not good at discussing them. I'm usually the strong silent one, I guess? My friends, Honeypaw and Hazelpaw, do most of the talking, especially Honeypaw." She smiled fondly thinking of her two apprentice friends.
"Not seeing them as much now that I'm a warrior... I guess it has worn on me more than I cared to admit... Needed someone to talk to." Blue eyes flicked to the tabby tom, and the she-cat offered him a smile equal parts apology and sheepishness. "I didn't mean to steal your alone time, but... Thanks for listening to me. If you'd prefer to, uh... Continue your night in silence, I can get out of your tail fur." warrior of stoneclan @silverwing | background image | table by phoenix Note: 18 moons

Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. Talonfoot thought his own words over again for a moment before adjusting how he was sitting and sighing. "I dislike the other clans heavily. I think it's safe to say I hate them. While I am not fond of them, doesn't mean that they're any less important to the land we all call home. I agree with the ... feeling of 'Why?" but as confusing as it may be, and it is very confusing, StarClan has their reasons for keeping us this way. " He wondered what it would be like when he got to StarClan, having tot share land with all other territories and all other clan cats that he had once found visciously in battle. All of the insults and words he had spouted wouldn't just be forgotten and forgiven as if they had never happened, would they? He wish he knew how it worked himself now. This she had gotten him to think deeper than he had ever really cared to before.
He didn't quite understand the feeling of not being able to be denmates with a friend. He hadn't been close friends with any of the apprentices he had been with, and the one or to who he got along with had become warriors before him and then left him to himself after that. Herondive seemed like a slightly more social butterfly though, especially considering how one of the names she had mentioned was Honeypaw, a she cat whom he knew was very... ernergtic. She was a pawful to handle, to say at the least. "They will join you in the warriors den in time. For now..." He cleared his throat, shifting on his paws slightly, "I suppose you may refer to me as a friend. You're not bothersome, and I was actually glad that someone came to take time from me tonight. While I usualy prefer to be alone, at night like this I'd much rather be able to share a moment like this with another Clan Mate. I don't mind listening to your troubles, so if you ever have something like this on your mind then go on and talk with me again. I think I can manage to say that out of the many younger and bothersome toms and shes to talk with me, you're a welcomed change of conversation." He flashed a smile back at her and then turned his gaze star-wards again.
"And I wouldn't call this wasted time. Had I been sitting here alone all night just looking at the sky with nothing but battle tactics in my head... Well then that would have been time well wasted. Instead I got to know one of my clan-mates a little better and hopefully some of the things I've said tonight have cheered you up in some way. Time well spent, I think." MEL @ ADOXOGRAPHY

HERONDIVE She paused a moment, considering what Talonfoot had said. She wanted to believe him, wanted to believe that StarClan had its reasons for everything. But... She found it so hard to. Because then she had to believe StarClan had allowed StoneClan to be chased from their home by StormClan all those moons ago; then she would have to believe that StarClan had some unknown reason for letting LightningClan take the SunStones. Her father had once told her StarClan rarely meddled in things; they provided guidance when it was needed most, but they could not control the world at the wave of a tail.
Even then... Why had StarClan not done anything for them in their time of greatest need? Her tail tip twitched at her side, blue eyes fixated on her paws again. She might have been trapped in her soured thoughts had Talonfoot not spoken up. Lifting her head a little abruptly, she blinked at him. She laughed softly to herself, a creamy ear flicking atop her head. "You only think I'm not bothersome because you had to deal with Vipertail for six moons." She meowed. She would be the first to admit that Vipertail was... A character.
"But... Thank you. I'd be honored to call you a friend. You're a strong warrior, and StoneClan is fortunate to have you." She delivered her compliment as evenly as she could, the she-cat not exactly knowing how to give a good compliment in the first place. Shifting on her paws just so, she pondered the sky a moment longer. "You're right... Getting to know your Clanmates is never wasted time." She mewed, mentally noting she should make more of an effort to interact with other Clanmates. Otherwise, she was in for an extraordinarily quiet, and likely pretty lonely life despite her current friends.
"What you said tonight... I think it did help. I still have lots to think about now, but... It doesn't feel like the sky might fall on top of me overnight. So... Thank you." She told him honestly. He hadn't magically been able to disperse all her worries like a bothersome fly, but... It was a start. Jaws parted in a yawn suddenly, Herondive feeling the tiniest pinprick of exhaustion creeping up on her now that her heart didn't feel so restless. Rising to her paws, she dipped her head respectfully to the older tom.
"I enjoyed talking to you, Talonfoot. But, knowing my luck... I'll be assigned to the Dawn Patrol tomorrow morning, so I should try to get some rest. I... Hope you enjoy the rest of your time out here tonight, it's a beautiful night." Summoning her warmest smile, she waved her tail to him in farewell. "Goodnight, Talonfoot. I'll see you around, I'm sure." And with that, she padded back to the warmth of the warrior's den, and the familiar comfort of her nest. Even as she drifted to sleep that night, her mind filtered through the discussions she'd had with Talonfoot, finding some form of relief in their interaction. warrior of stoneclan @silverwing | background image | table by phoenixEnd thread? Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. Talonfoot smiled at the mention of Vipertail. "True. Your brother was quite a pawful." He comented with a purr in his tone, and remained in place as she complemented him. "You are a valuable asset to the clan as well. StoneClan should be proud to have a fine young warrior such as yourself."
It wasn't every day he felt a little closer to some one just through a little conversation, but with Herondive he felt a more than a little bit closer. "For your sake I hope you don't get dawn patrol, or if you do maybe we could have the luck of being on the same patrol?" He said half jokingly, "Goodnight, may you have plesant dreams." He watched her pad off towards the warriors den and then turned his head back up towards the stars. Perhaps he would ask her to hunt with him some time, or share prey? MEL @ ADOXOGRAPHY
