Gone were the warm, dewy mornings of greenleaf. The stones retained some heat, it was true, but that had more to do with den insulation than the strength of the sun. Feeling Hawkstar's warm presence beside her, when the sandy warrior finally stood up, she stirred as well, uncurling from their nest to follow him out into the daylight. Not before a sleepy, purring press of her muzzle into his neck.
Good morning.

StoneClan was just now starting to awaken. Wolfclaw was stretching near the entrance to the warriors' den, and she greeted him with a warm nod, before making a graceful beeline for the nursery. Without saying a word so as not to disturb Silverglade and Sandkit, Frozenrain peered in, made content by their peaceful, sleeping forms. It was a matronly instinct, to check in on the loner-queen and her kit; she was meaning to have a conversation with her one of these mornings - to get to know the young mother who had traveled so far. And her sweet little son, of course.

Engrossed in her grooming, Frozenrain kept one ear tilted for the sound of her name as Wolfclaw organized the Dawn Patrol. When the cats were chosen and herself not among them, Frozenrain enjoyed the spare moment to stretch, feeling wide awake now that the cool morning air had chased away the sleepiness. Frozenrain picked her way carefuly through the apprentices' den, mindful of kitten tails and kitten paws, a fond purr of memory humming in her throat as she recalled the day Herondive and Vipertail were first made apprentices.

"Wake up, Ashpaw. We have much to do this morning." Finding the gray tom, Frozenrain nudged him gently awake, her tail raised and brought to her mouth to indicate he was to keep quiet, and follow her out of the apprentices' den. Once outside, Frozenrain led her new pupil over to the fresh kill pile, selecting a mouse that was all that remained of last night's fresh kill pile. The morning hunting patrol would go out soon.

Frozenrain set the mouse at his paws, mewing in her clear, mature voice "Eat this, you'll need your strength for hunting in the little woods today."

I wanna hear you sing the praise

He'd been dreaming such sweet dreams, filled with cats cheering him on as he fought off an eagle, and pretty she-cats fawning over his majesty. Among those she-cats was of course, Herondive, the she-cat whom he was convinced was his soulmate. She was always present in his dreams, since that fateful encounter they'd had not long ago. He definitely wasn't complaining though, especially not when those dreams consisted of lots of cuddling and affectionate licks.

Of course, all good things must come to an end. Which seemed an awful lot like Frozenrain's life motto right now as she prodded the stone-colored tom awake. Half-awake and deeply wishing to return to his dreams, Ashpaw lifted his paw up and placed it on his mentor's shoulder to let her know he heard her. The last thing he needed was to be continually prodded by an older she-cat for not waking up fast enough.

Rising to his paws, the grey tom stretched as much as he could in the confined space of the apprentice den, before carefully maneuvering around his fellow apprentices. Once outside the den, he followed the she-cat over to the fresh-kill pile. When she presented him with a mouse, claiming that he'd need his strength for their hunting, he gave her a look of confusion. Wasn't it tradition to hunt on an empty stomach? That's what his fathers had always told him.

"Er thanks, I was always told that most warriors like to go hunting on an empty stomach though. Aren't you hungry too by the way? We could split the mouse if you want." He mewled out. It was always best to be nice to others if you can. Especially if they had authority over you. He would have gulped down that mouse in a heartbeat in any normal situation, but he figured it best to stay on his mentor's good side.

It may have amounted very little in the total education of an apprentice to most mentors, but Frozenrain was a firm believer in chivalry and politesse. That Ashpaw had not gulped down the mouse like a starving loner was a good thing, and his standing in her eyes only improved when he offered to share it. "Thank you dear, but I prefer to wait for the hunting patrol to return. We're doing more than just hunting today, Ashpaw. We're collecting feathers to insulate the apprentices' dens, which will involve quite a bit of travel."

Frozenrain smiled softly, encouraging him to eat the mouse with another dip of her muzzle towards it, giving him permission to do so. "I'll be right back, just a moment." She would have to have a word with Aspentail and Greyheart, to compliment them both on raising their son so well. That wasn't who she left in search of, however; instead, she sought out Dawnblossom, tapping her tail against the stone entrance to the medicine den to announce her presence inobtrusively. "Good morning. I'm taking Ashpaw out to collect feathers for the apprentices' nests. Did you need any?"

The medicine looked up from her herb-sorting, and by the time Frozenrain returned to Ashpaw, she had gotten a short to-do list to help Dawnblossom out. They would fetch feathers and moss for her last. I hope StarClan sends her a sign soon, she could use an extra set of paws around the den. Reapplying her focus to the ashy tom, Frozenrain beckoned him to her with a soft wave of her tail. "Have your parents given you any advice on catching birds?" She asked, her crystal-blue eyes watching him keenly.
