Recently we've had a few cats made with alternate sexuality which is great! We've also had NightClan's leader Dimstar inforce a new rule about mates and having kits. This has prompted me to add into the clan information about how they view various alternate sexualities and mates etc.

Post your 'head canons' we can discuss them and the ones with the most 'votes' or 'supporters' will be added to the site canon as fact.

- its already mentioned in Firestar's history and Wildstripe that there is a likely trend of perma queens having multiple mates over the course of their lives. Not saying that mates aren't aloud or frowned, but I personally see a more relaxed way of life when it comes to mates. Cats can have one single mate their entire life or a series of mates without anyone really calling them names or negative gossip. Even poly-relationships are accepted.

Considering Flashbrook and Burningleaf are a same-sex couple, I don't think LightingClan as a whole cares about the gender of the cats in a relationship. As a general statement LightingClan falls under the realm of 'free love' and as long as no one is hurt (physically) for the sake of mate / relationship then its all good.

So I randomly remembered this thread lol

Taking from Dimstar, and how the Clan operates and tends to think as a whole, blood purity and superiority is a big deal in NightClan. Therefore I imagine there are a LOT of cases of DimStarling in NightClan, 'mates of convenience' because they are a good match and would make superior kits to add to NightClan's bloodline, to make superior warriors. Many queens try to mate with toms that have proven themselves in battle (mmm yeah scars are a MAJOR NC kitty turn on xD) and/or as superior hunters, regardless of how they really feel about said toms. Romance is not a huge deal when it comes to choosing a mate in NightClan (not that it's frowned upon, it just isn't a major requirement). And as queens are generally looking for the best of the best males to mate with, they might change mates on occasion, and several queens might even mate with the same tom. This is not always peaceful xD queens would be as competitive as any cat in NightClan to claim the best for themselves, which can cause a lot of conflict for sure (fun plot drivers lol).

Since NightClan tends to have a less emotional view of mating and sees it more as a duty to further NightClan's superiority, I don't imagine same sex relationships are entirely favorable in the Clan as they generally do little to add to the future generation and can keep some of the best warriors from passing on their bloodline to the next generation. It is therefore encouraged for same sex couples to use surrogates in order to have their own kits, in which case the relationship is 'validated' in the eyes of the Clan, since it is no longer 'holding the Clan back' in any way.
