LIONSTAR
leader of treeclan
Blinded by the light of a new sun
"Let all cats well enough to leave their nests gather around the ancient stump!" Lionstar's voice filled the hollowed out tree as he stood on the stump just a fox-length away from the opening. Slow at first, the cats of TreeClan began to assemble--Mockingbird's three kits, as rambunctious as always, were herded along beside the Clan's elders, the apprentices and warriors all joining from every direction. Lionstar caught sight of Ashwhisker fastidiously grooming both Sedgekit and Fernkit one last time before their big moment; a purr spilled from the golden tom's throat, though too low for anyone to hear.
"Cats of TreeClan, I am sure you have questions about our guest, Moonfeather, and her two kits. I appreciate the patience you have shown, and the respect you have given her thus far. She will be staying with us until newleaf. Treat her no differently than you would treat any other queen of our Clan; because Moonfeather has shown an interest in learning our ways, I want every cat to be welcoming and helpful if she has any questions. I know some of you may be wary of allowing a loner to join our Clan--" he glanced at the gray-furred she-cat in the entranceway to the nursery, a benign smile on his face"--but if that is what she chooses, then we will respect that choice. We have accepted outsiders into the Clan before, and we are stronger because of it."
Lionstar locked eyes with his deputy and his medicine cat, trusting their counsil above all others, especially when it came to decisions like these--though nothing was etched in stone yet. Whether Moonfeather stayed permanently or only until the spring, Lionstar intended for the Clan to treat her well no matter her decision.
"Now, I believe there are two kits who have finally outgrown their place in the nursery." Lionstar gestured for Sedgekit and Fernkit to approach, their parents beaming with pride. "Fernkit, Sedgekit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Fernpaw and Sedgepaw." Lionstar raised his gaze from the two new 'paws to find the two she-cats in the crowd, beckoning them with a sweep of his tail. "Rowanberry, you have done well with Emberflower in the past, it is time for you to take on another apprentice. Sparrowdawn, you have been a loyal warrior of TreeClan for many moons now. You getting your own apprentice is long overdue. Rowanberry will mentor Fernpaw, and Sparrowdawn will mentor Sedgepaw. I hope they will pass down all they know on to Sedgepaw and Fernpaw."
Lionstar watched as the mentors and apprentices touched noses, while the Clan took up the chant of their new names.
"Fernpaw! Sedgepaw! Fernpaw! Sedgepaw!"
