Adderfang had found her way into the black woods. The dark soot stained trees created eerie effects on their surroundings but it didn't bother her. The soot covered silhouettes of the trees and the dark shadows created what almost seemed like perpetual darkness. Adderfang loved the darkness, she felt more at home among the deep dark deceitful tendrils of darkness.
It was almost as though she was ment to be here. She still often wondered what her parents were like as when they died she was too young to remember them. Adderfang continued to wander the black woods aimlessly often leaning down to sniff an insect or two often watching their reaction to her presence. As she lies on the soft earth near the base of a tree she rests her head on her paws as her tail swishes from side to side. Adderfang looked up at the darkening sky with her vibrant green eyes, wondering what the day held for her.

64 Moons. Senior Warrior. Tom. NightClan.- First, No Sequel A mouse squealed as it was pierced by needle sharp claws, Blackwolf fishing it out of an overturned dead tree on NightClan soil, plucking the vermin from its cozy little nest followed by a swift bite to dispatch it. Four. Four mice and a frog; not bad for the beginning of leaf-fall, but he knew his luck wouldn't hold. Before too long, the Clan would be scrambling to make ends meet, especially with the abundance of apprentices they had now.
The forest should be able to support them all—as long as everyone did their part.
Burying his prey for later, Blackwolf stretched, flicking the bark off his jet black fur and the mud out from under his claws. Jaws parting again, he caught the faint scent of more frogs, as well as the familiar whiff of a Clanmate. It was neither Hollowcry nor Poisonleaf, his mate or any of his kits, so he ignored it temporarily. Circling through the black woods with a low, practiced ease as he searched out more prey, his stalking did eventually bring him closer to the owner of the Clan-scent.
"Adderfang," he mewed, some scorn in his voice as he realized she was laying around idling while the Clan needed to be fed. His blue-and-gold eyes settled on her coldly. "If this is your idea of a hunting technique, you need to go back to the apprentices' den." Blackwolf wasn't in charge of making sure the Clan's younger warriors did their part, but he wasn't about to let it go without another comment. "Go hunt. The Clan needs it, but I shouldn't have to tell you that." Do the Math, No Equal

Adderfang was mostly keeping to herself watching the day go by slowly as she basked in what was left of the sunlight. She smelt Blackwolf before she saw him but she wasn't worried as she could tell that he was a member of her clan. She didn't move till he called her name as she was far too comfortable. She turns her head at the sound of Blackwolf's grouchy voice. Ears flattening against her skull for a moment, clearly not impressed with the way that he had spoken to her. However she did get up and turn to face him and proceded to lower her head to him almost like a short bow. It was her way of being respectful, he was after all far older than her. " You are right of course Blackwolf, but you should know by now that i hunt better in complete darkness."Adderfang spoke softly and respectfully to Blackwolf not wishing to get onto his bad side as looked like a cat not to be messed with. "I am sorry if you see me as being lazy, hopefully i can change your opinion of me one day."----------------------------------- Fawn

64 Moons. Senior Warrior. Tom. NightClan.- First, No Sequel The black warrior snorted. "You can improve my opinion of you by bringing back some fresh kill." He saw no point in waiting around until true nightfall descended upon the Clan; there was still prey active, and during the evening, there was always a chance of catching a bat or a mouse that was late to reach their nests.
The frogsong was loud in his ears, competing with the evening bird calls that dominated the black pine forest. Blackwolf ignored her for a few heartbeats, trying to detect prey through the all-too-familiar scents of wet marshland, damp nettles and the musty odor of fungi. Quite suddenly, the appearance of a blackbird, all glossy obsidian feathers and jet black beak managed to land near a clump of reeds in pursuit of an unfortunate cricket.
Ears pricking forward, Blackwolf gestured with a decisive tail flick for Adderfang to stalk it from a distance, not wanting to chance the bird getting away by hunting it solo. You can impress me by not screwing this up. He kept those thoughts to himself, gaze transfixed on the blackbird. Powerful shoulders flexing, he crept through the mud like a panther, body low and his concentration perfect. He would attempt to catch it, however, if it took off too soon, he expected Adderfang to make her leap also. two pairs of front claws ready to rip it from the air seemed better than one. Adderfang chuckled she knew that Blackwolf was less than impressed with her at this moment in time but she knew that she could make it up to him. Adderfang watched Blackwolf carefully while taking in the scents and sounds of her surroundings. She could hear all the night animals begin to wake up and some of the evening animals make their way to their nests for the night. When Adderfang saw Blackwolf flicked his tail and signalled for her to stalk the bird she did so without hesitation. She slowly snuck around the bird so that she was angled towards the head of the bird. She wasn’t directly in front of it because she knew that if she was it would pick up on her movement a lot quicker. Adderfang was silent she was very careful where she placed each foot. She made sure not to make any sudden moves and not to make any noise that could startle the bird. Rather than signalling to Blakwolf she remained silent. Blackwolf was the lead hunter on this she would wait for his signal before pouncing on the target. --------------------------------------------------- FawnWord Count: 189

64 Moons. Senior Warrior. Tom. NightClan.- First, No Sequel The blackbird wasn't as stupid as some of the others he'd encountered. Sensing danger encroaching from all sides, the blackbird braced to fly away—Blackwolf lunged, forcing it to flap in the direction of Adderfang, his leap the signal she needed to take down the prey herself. He didn't enjoy flushing birds; Blackwolf was more of the 'sneak up until your breath can ruffle its feathers, then kill it' type of warrior. He didn't care much for partner-hunting, but that was Clan life—you either adjusted or you left.
Prepared to give support, Blackwolf turned on the floor of pine needles and flat, cool soil to join up with Adderfang, mismatched eyes fixed on the struggling prey as the warrioress brought it crashing back down to earth. It was difficult to bite with the wings beating frantically around Adderfang's head, but he saw that she dispatched it after some time. Blackwolf didn't nod, but trusted her to add her prey to the fresh kill cache he'd already started; "We have to move. The bird frightened everything away." They'd have to try their luck near the branch trail, though he was cautious of hunting under the trees during times of high wind and rain. Some of the branches were thin and would cause a nuisance if they fell; and some of the branches were dangerous enough to kill a cat. Do the Math, No Equal

Adderfang had killed the bird with little to no difficulty the flapping wings and the panicked screech of the birds did make it a little difficult. The sound of the birds pained cry’s did hurt her sensitive ears but she ignored it and when the opportunity presented itself she killed the bird swiftly. Once the bird had stopped making noise she put a paw on one of its wings and made sure that it wasn’t playing dead before picking it up and finding the prey pile to put it in. She would then proceed to cover the pile with dead leaves and then proceeded to pull a dead rotting log on top. She wanted to hide the food storage pile from other predators roaming about after all the food was for nightclan only. When Blackwolf spoke she nodded that was the only thing with hunting birds, fail or succeed their panicked screams will always alert the surrounding prey in the area. Adderfang liked to hunt birds but she only tended to do so in her odd bouts of spare time. When hunting for the clan she tended to hunt things that live in groups such as mice, rats or rabbits Adderfang has even learned to follow circling crows. It often meant there was food near them, and even though she wasn’t as lazy as she looked she would not pass up a free kill to add to the pile. Adderfang would follow Blackwolf hoping he would lead her to some rich hunting grounds. _______________________________________________________________ FawnWord Count: 260

64 Moons. Senior Warrior. Tom. NightClan.- First, No Sequel Blackwolf gave approval in the form of a singular curt nod, before he led the way towards the ambush pond. They would try their luck around NightClan’s major water source; it was better than sticking around out here, where no birds would be dumb enough to show up with two NightClan warriors on the prowl.
A familiar scent on the wind had Blackwolf slowing down, and he snorted, recognizing it to belong to his son, Bonetail. ”I hope you’ve managed to catch more than pine needles.” He growled as the white-furred tom walked into view; he was hopping on three legs, and if it weren’t for the irritated expression on Bonetail’s face, Blackwolf would’ve thought him injured.
He could tell by the smell that Bonetail had stepped in pine-sap. The sticky mess was stuck to one of his paws, which he held up to avoid getting even more forest debris trapped in the hardening sap.
”A grackle and a starling,” he replied irritably, and Blackwolf flicked the tip of his son’s ear with his tail. ”Wash that mess off in the pond. Let’s keep moving.” There was no reason for Bonetail to avoid joining their impromptu hunting party, and he could tell by the flash of annoyance in Bonetail’s eyes that his son might have wanted to protest, but knew better.
Bonetail fell into step beside Adderfang, the two warriors not far apart in age, though not particularly close. The two toms said nothing on the way to the pond, though Blackwolf hissed a warning when Bonetail’s splashing grew louder in the tom’s efforts to get the sap off his paws, and Bonetail began to work more quietly, plucking at the pine needles with his teeth to pull them free. Adderfang noticed Blackwolf's nod of approval. She and Black wolf both knew that after killing that bird they were unlikely to find anymore prey in the area. Adderfang followed him at a steady pace and was careful about where she placed her paws. Soft and cautiously she padded along behind him. it seemed as though they were heading to a water source. One that she wasn't on good terms with as she remembers falling in as a kit.
Soon the scent of another warrior was in the air, thankfully it was one of their own. She recognised him but she hadn't ever really introduced herself to him or strike up a conversation. To her he seemed like the type that was constantly irritated. Although she could see Bonetail hopping she wasn't worried as she noticed the the pine sap that was stuck to a paw. She knew that if Bonetail didn't hurry he would have a very difficult time removing the sap.
only a grackle and a starling? she thought, although she could hardly talk she'd only caught one bird. So she stayed quiet as she watched Blackwolf flick Bonetails ear. was that affection? i didn't think Blackwolf was known for his affectionate nature? she thought to herself.
Adderfang just observed Bonetails efforts with mild curiosity.

64 Moons. Senior Warrior. Tom. NightClan.- First, No Sequel While his son was splashing around like a kit in a puddle, Blackwolf was on the search for frogs, skirting the fern-choked edges of the ambush pond for the scent or sounds of prey. He left Adderfang and Bonetail to do as they liked--they didn't need him barking orders. If they did, then they should've stayed apprentices.
Blackwolf's diligence was rewarded, and with more speed than most cats his age, the black warrior caught not one, but two frogs -- one of which had been trying to escape while the other was killed. He saw the pond-scummy mess of frog eggs on the surface of the pond and snorted. Frogs. Why have tadpoles in this weather? They must've been too stupid to realize leafbare was coming.
A litter of kits was different; they could be protected and insulated from the elements. A bunch of tiny frogs in the cold wasn't anything more than fish food.
There was a low hiss nearby, followed by an even larger splash. Blackwolf knew without looking that Bonetail had fallen in. "For Ravenstar's sake," he snapped, looking to the sodden warrior. "Was all your training for nothing? Get out of there and get back to camp." Frogbrain. Despite his son's brief moment of incompetence, Blackwolf swept the fern leaves off of Bonetail's back as the white tom shivered and hissed his way towards home.
"That's enough hunting for now. We'll collect all the prey and go home." Blackwolf's mismatched eyes fell upon Adderfang; he had given the frogs to Bonetail to take back with him, that left Blackwolf's own cache of three mice and a frog, Bonetail's grackle and starling, and Adderfang's blackbird.

Adderfang watched as Bonetail splashes his paw in a puddle. Adderfang wanted to laugh at Bonetails feeble efforts to get rid of the sap from his paw. She held back her laughter and watched as Blackwolf head off towards a pond to continue hunting for the clan. Adderfang didn’t need to be told to continue hunting she caught the jist.
As Adderfang watched as Blackwolf walked towards the pond for more hunting she decided she would do the same. However she was going to hunt in the tall grass surrounding the pond. Adderfang was looking for rodents, lizards, small mammals and birds. As she stalked through the long grass she was careful about where and how she placed each paw. She was silent as she stalked through the grass. She placed each paw with careful thought and care.
Adderfang soon came across a small clearing where a blackbird and a pigeon were pecking at the ground for worms and grubs. She takes note of her surroundings. She wanted to take out both birds at once but she knew that it would be difficult. She would wait till the bird had their back to her then she would pounce. Launching herself a the two birds. She would aim to knock out the blackbird and swiftly kill the pigeon. She would swipe at the blackbirds head knocking it to the ground while she latched onto the pigeon’s neck with her teeth, breaking its neck. She turns to the blackbird and bites its neck, just to make sure that its dead. She would then proceed to drag both to food pile just as she heard Bonetail fall into some water.

64 Moons. Senior Warrior. Tom. NightClan.- First, No Sequel While Adderfang went off on her own, Blackwolf busied himself with two prey trips back and forth between camp. He acknowledged his daughter, Hollystorm, and his mate, Ghostlight, the two she-cats gossiping near the Camp entrance, though he didn't stop to chat. Depositing the fresh kill onto the pile, Blackwolf flicked an ear at some unruly kits squealing and tumbling nearby - shooting their mother a look when the kits nearly tripped him up (she hastily shooed her kits away) - before leaving the cavern once more.
With this final trip, Blackwolf's path crossed with Adderfang's, and he nodded curtly to the she-cat as she moved into view, noticing her haul - a fat pigeon and a blackbird. She seemed to have some difficulty dragging both birds back to camp, but Blackwolf, with his own last two mice to collect, already had his jaws full.
Instead, he outpaced her on the way back to the camp entrance, pausing once to glance over his shoulder to check his progress. If she really was struggling, then he'd send that useless lump of fur Ratfur to go help her, but she'd proven herself...unexpectedly effective as a warrior. Blackwolf had not an ounce of concern; Adderfang could look after herself. With a decisive flick of his tail, the senior warrior deposited the last of his kill and went to join the rest of his family in the cave.

Adderfang almost choked on a pigeon feather when she heard Bonetail fall in, but she was also a little irritated as if had fallen in earlier he could have scared the birds she was hunting. Adderfang shook off her irritation as she Blackwolf passed her, giving her a short nod of approval. It seemed as though she had impressed him. Well she had told him that she wasn't a complete slacker.
It wasn’t long before Blackwolf had out paced her. He passed her with mice in his jaws. She was a little annoyed that he didn't ask her if he wanted any help, she didn't need it but she would have liked to have knowed that he was considerate enough to ask. She just continues to drag the two birds back to the prey pile in the camp. The pigeon was heavy so she got to the camp a little while after Blackwolf. _______________________________ Thread: yh this can be the end of the tread if you want.
