Badgerpaw had done it again, but this time, it was worse. He was out of camp, and the moon was high. He hoped this wouldn't be the case, but sadly he had remembered. So, it was true, one could not forget a feeling, no matter how they wished to do so. Badgerpaw still felt like he was a burden to the clan, he couldn't remember anything. He knew he had a lesson the day before but he couldn't remember anything about it, and the only reason he knew he had a lesson, was because he woke up in the apprentice den again. The only thing he remembered about the day before, was the talk he had with Stormheart over sharing prey. Everything, he had forgot almost everything! Sure, he was willing to learn and he was willing to stay an apprentice for longer to make sure he remembered, but that would be selfish of him, to take all that time of Silverstream just for himself? He had to think of the clan first, and if he wasn't around, then Silverstream would be free to do other duties and she wouldn't have to worry about him. He was a burden, he caused more trouble than he learned. He had broken two parts of the warrior code already, what sort of apprentice was he?
Badgerpaw continued on walking slowly, he had been walking for a long time now, he had taken a few short breaks when he needed it but he couldn't stop, he knew that they would search for him because that was what the warrior code said they should do, but if they could not find him, then they would have to forget about him, and move on, and that would be best for the clan. After all, clan always comes first, and sure, he wanted to be a warrior, he wanted to have a mentor one day, but again, his memory would just do more harm than good. He sat down once more and let out a sigh. He was tired, he was very tired, and hungry and thirsty. He looked around and saw all the territories down below. His eyes widened, and he gave a small smile. The view was amazing! He looked to the moon with sad eyes and then stood up once more.
He needed to find somewhere to rest and hide for the night, then he could continue walking. He needed to get as far away as he could. It was for the clan, he had to, that was what the warrior code said and he would follow it. He looked around and soon saw a small cave, he walked inside slowly inside, and found a spring of water, well, that answered his need for thirst, but not his hunger. He took a drink and then laid himself down. He let out a soft yawn before taking one final look out the cave. He had to admit, he would miss clan life, but it was better for them. He didn't want to burden them. Badgerpaw slowly laid his head down and closed his eyes. Was his name even Badgerpaw anymore? What happened when a cat left the clans? Did their name changed? He wasn't sure, so for now, just to be safe, his name would just be Badger.

Silverscar 27 Moons. RainClan. Warrior. She-Cat. Silverscar was a mess.
After discovering her apprentice had broken the warrior code, not once but twice she'd had to give him a firm talking to. She didn't yell or even raise her voice. No she had simply given him a lecture on how disappointed she had been. A very similar one to that her own mentor had once given her, over a slightly different situation. Remembering how it had made her feel, worse than if he'd yelled she had decided this was how she would go about telling off Badgerpaw. Hoping it would drive home the point she needed to make without hurting him emotionally. She was however furious on the inside. Having to constantly remind herself that he was young and on top of being young he had a very poor memory. Neither of which made her feel much better. It was her first apprentice and he was already into trouble.
To top this all off, she'd had to stand there and listen as a senior warrior reported off her apprentices crimes. His accusing eyes boring into Silverscar making her feel more like a failure than she already did. So after that whole debacle Silverscar had left to go about her duties. Leaving Badgerpaw to stew in wrong doing, while she cooled off. She'd spent the day hunting to calm her nerves. Telling herself when she returned to camp, things would be alright. Timberstar wouldn't throw her out for failing to keep Badgerpaw in line. Cats wouldn't look at her with accusatory eyes, like she'd been the one to suggest Badgerpaw run off and share prey with a cat of another clan. All of which was completely ridiculous for her to worry about, but that didn't stop her.
However by the time Silverscar had finished hunting the sun had already begun it's decent into darkness. Warriors and there apprentices were returning back to camp. Silverscar passing by them without so much as a glance. Her guilt riddled face looking to the ground, as she dragged her quarry to the pile. Here she paused to chose something small to eat. Her belly too upset for a large meal. She'd sat off to the side of camp, barely tasting the water vole she'd chosen. It wasn't until late, that Silverscar started to wonder where her apprentice was. For she hadn't seen him around camp or coming in and out of the elder's den. Perhaps he had retired early? Tired and upset she supposed. Yet something bothered her, like an itch in the back of her mind. So much so, she found herself padding towards the apprentice den. Worry engulfing her when she peered into the den, the nest which Badgerpaw usually occupied empty.
Shocked Silverscar spent sometime searching around the camp. She checked the elder's den, the nursery. Even the warriors den, however Badgerpaw was no where to be found. Heart sinking she realized this must of meant only one thing. He'd taken off again. But this time she had a feeling it wasn't to share prey with another clan. No this was different... Had he run away because of what she had said? What Stormheart had said? Gulping at the idea, Silverscar tried to clear her mind. She needed to pull herself together. Getting her emotions under control, Silverscar went in search of Crowblaze. Simply because he was the only cat she could think of that she knew, well enough to ask for help.
She'd found the dark tabby in the warriors nest. And was relieved when he not only offered to help but suggested a good place to look for the missing apprentice. So nerves tingling, mind whirling Silverscar set off with Crowblaze at her side. Scenting along the Rainclan territory in search of the youngster.
" I shouldn't of been so hard on him..." She says breaking the long silence which had lapsed between them. " Maybe then he wouldn't of run off..." Huffing softly in the cool night air, Silverscar glanced to her large companion. Her ghastly scar illuminated eerily in the moonlight. She couldn't help but wonder what was going though his head. Was he too disappointed with her? Did he think she was a failure?

36 Moons. Loner. Tom. -
"Apprentices do fishbrained things all the time," he mewed, thinking of his brother Hawkfall and himself in their younger moons. "Especially toms. If he has any sense, he'll try to find some other cats to stay with, so we'll check the Oasis first." He could see the worry etched across Silverscar's face more prominently than her namesake, which glowed under the moonlight as if determined to let no cat forget what she had been through.
Crowblaze was the worst when it came to comforting others—he could barely even comfort himself when tragedy happened—but he made the effort to stop once they'd scaled partially up the mountainside, to speak. "We'll find him, Silverscar." Memories of many moons spent by himself began to rise up around him like fog, and with each paw-step into terrain that was so unlike RainClan's, Crowblaze felt them return. Instincts renewed, a wariness descended over the large tabby warrior, as if very aware of the threats the unseen dangers of the mountains posed on two young cats (and a runaway apprentice) traipsing around at night.
Pausing, Crowblaze scented among the rocks and the short sparse lichen, his paws stepping through weathered scrub and moss. "He came this way!" He mewed, signaling her to follow him with a determined flick of his tail; Crowblaze leaped over a tall boulder, glancing back once to make sure she could scale it also before he continued.
So I was right. He IS heading for the oasis.
It was fortunate they were full grown cats; it was going to take a good portion of the night to reach the hidden loner retreat. "When we get there, no sudden moves." Crowblaze spoke again once they were close enough to pick up many loner-scents on the wind; the moon was still high in the sky, and he was beginning to feel fatigue in his legs from the tough uphill journey.
"We might be well received, or they might not like the sight of two full grown Clan cats showing up. If anyone asks, we're loners ourselves. Silver and Crow." They could pretend to be mates if they had to, searching for her lost 'little brother', Badger. There was a chance the loners of the Oasis would invite them to spend the night, or at least Crowblaze was confident he could speak with their leader(s) for permission, he wasn't envying a long walk with an exhausted apprentice back down the mountainside.
If they were not permitted to stay, they would just have to make camp elsewhere.

Badgerpaw sighed as he continued to rest, he couldn't sleep, this place wasn't as comfortable as the apprentice den. He rolled himself over, before rolling once more. Eventually, he got himself up and stretched himself out with a yawn. He was hungry, very hungry. He needed some food, but he didn't know where to look. He sniffed the air but no prey scent came to him, and even if some did, he would have to catch it first. Silverstream hadn't taught him how to do that yet, and he only caught the fish by sheer chance. He can't even remember how he did it. He looked down as his stomach rumbled and he licked his lips softly. Maybe it was his hunger that was keeping him awake? If he found some food, perhaps he could sleep and get some rest? For now, that would be the best idea. He walked out the cave slowly, and sniffed the air softly before looking around. For now, no familiar scents came to him.

Silverscar 27 Moons. RainClan. Warrior. She-Cat. When Crowblaze spoke, she was relieved to find no hint of accusation in his voice. Instead, he dismissed the young tom's actions of that of a silly apprentice. His words designed to make her feel better did little to calm her worried mind. Thoughts of what could be happening to her little apprentice flashing in her head. He was so young to be out all alone, anything could happen! The idea made her walk closer to Crowblaze her sleek body looking puny beside his large thick one.
Ascending the mountain side, Silverscar glaced up from her paws when Crowblaze spoke again. His voice gentler this time, more comforting. Telling her, assuring her they would find him. Blinking she nods her skull at him. Believing in his words whole heartedly. Her fear though was when they found him, he wouldn't be alive. " I hope so." She whispers to the tom. Her throat feeling dry, her heart beat pounding in her ears.
They'd only climbed a short ways more when Crowblaze called out. Seconds after, Silverscar too caught the scent. Hope rising in her heart as she dashed after the larger tom. Her long slender limbs allowing her to sail gracefully over the boulder, keeping pace with him. Her jaws parted to draw in the familiar scent of the black and white apprentice. Hang in there Badgerpaw were coming! She thought desperately.
The scent of strange cats drifting to them on the wind, only made Silverscar that much more worried. What if he was attacked? What if he got taken? These thoughts and more swirled in her mind. Broken only by the calm voice of her companion. " Right." She murmurs, trying to hide how on edge she was. It had been a long time since she had been outside of the clan. So long, she'd nearly forgotten what it was like.
Muscles aching, breaths becoming heavier Silverscar pushed herself to keep climbing. Her vibrant gaze fixed determinedly in the direction of Badgerpaw's scent. Nothing would keep her from her apprentice. Nothing and no one! Ears twitching Silverscar turned to glance at Crowblaze as he spoke. A little surprised by his words at first. But after giving it a moments thought she knew he was right. For her it had been many moons since her loner days. For him it hadn't been all that long ago.
" Whatever it takes." Silverscar says, her voice breathy. Her body cursing her for all this up hill cardio. Rainclan cats were built for swimming, not climbing. Despite this, the pair pushed forward. Silverscar's eyes scanning their surroundings for any signs of Badgerpaw. Wishing she could call out, she refrained. Knowing full well it would attract unwanted attention from the very cats they wished to avoid.

36 Moons. Loner. Tom. -
The scents of many loners surrounded them on all sides; in truth, it was mostly cats passing through, stopping briefly at the Oasis for water, rest and food if anyone felt generous enough to share. Crowblaze had no intention of relying upon the hospitality of loners; long ago he might have begrudgingly considered them friends, Crowblaze was too well acquainted with the 'fend for yourself' mentality of the solitary cat's life to expect to be well received as if they were old denmates.
"Haven't I seen you before?" Mewed an enormous solid brown tom, his muzzle flecked with gray but his green eyes keen, steady.
"Probably." Crowblaze replied, stopping so Silverscar could catch her breath. "Are you the leader here?"
"I might be. Depends on who's asking." The brown tom cocked his head to one side, body acting as a barricade to prevent them from moving any deeper into the Oasis. Crowblaze's temper flared, showing in the narrowing of his eyes.
"I'm Crow, this is Silver. We're looking for someone." He tried being 'nice' one more time, keeping his shoulder pressed to Silverscar's fur, making it clear that if anycat got any bright ideas about fighting, they were going to have him to deal with.
Just then, however, a pretty brown tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat appeared from a very narrow cave hidden in the cleft in the mountainside, her belly swollen with kits yet to be born. "Newcomers, Rock?"
"Yeah, they're looking for someone." The big brown tom gestured for the queen to come closer, and he adopted a friendlier tone, nuzzling her cheek briefly before introducing the pregnant she-cat to them. "This is my mate, Heather. If you're after any cat in particular, talk to her. She knows the name of every cat here." Rock dipped his head cordially to both cats. "You're welcome to stay if you mean us no harm."
"They smell like Clan cats," growled a one-eyed loner.
”A lot of cats smell like that lately,” Heather replied chipperly. She turned back to Crowblaze and Silverscar, her rounded face warm. ”Who are you trying to find, dears?”
Crowblaze, who had thus far done all the talking, trusted Silverscar to glance amongst the small group of loners to see if she could spot a familiar black and white tom while he answered. ”Small tom, black with white markings. Silver’s little brother.” And if he has any sense at all, he won’t go by his Clan name.
”Do you mean Badger?” Heather tilted her head to the side curiously, and Crowblaze’s orange gaze locked onto her. Yes! "Is he here?”
Heather nodded, and called sweetly towards the rest of the group. ”Badger! Silver and Crow are here to see you!”
Crowblaze waited, a flicking tail-tip betraying his impatience. What if he doesn’t recognize the names? Hopefully the tom came out from wherever he was hiding; he could at least recognize Silverscar.

Forgetting is easy, but remembering is almost impossible.
Badgerpaw's ears perked when his name was called. He was about to go and find some food, or at least try to... He slowly stepped toward the loners, who he still didn't know. He couldn't remember their names. Once he stood by the loners, he stared at Silverscar and Crowblaze. He didn't recognise Crowblaze, but he knew Silverstream, well, only that she was his mentor.
"Silverstream what are you doing here?"
He still knew they were clan cats, they wouldn't leave the clan, right? He wasn't a clan cat, not anymore, but honestly, he knew why they came for him. They had to.
"The warrior code. Silverstream, you can just say you couldn't find me, nobody will know. I don't want burden you anymore. I'm just more trouble than I'm worth."
He lowered his head and then looked to the other loners before stepping back a little. He sat down away from them, but just close enough in which he could hear them.

Silverscar 27 Moons. RainClan. Warrior. She-Cat. Silverscar felt uncomfortable amongst all the loners. She might of been one herself long ago, but she'd lived a secluded life then. Sure she'd had her run ins with other cats, but never so many strangers in one place. To her this was all too strange. But Crowblaze seemed to know exactly what to do, where to walk and how to act. Something Silverscar was very grateful for as she followed him up slope towards the Oasis. She did her best to mirror his actions, keeping her head down and staying close. Hoping her ghastly scar wouldn't attract too much attention.
They weren't far from the mouth of the oasis when a voice called out to them. It was deep and distinctly male. It took Silverscar only seconds to spot who it belonged to. An enormous brown tabby, he was as large if not larger than Crowblaze. Forcing herself to remain calm, Silverscar slowed to a halt at Crowblaze's side. Her triangular ears flickering to catch the conversation between the pair. Her breath catching in her lungs. Was their cover blown? Would this loner chase them from the Oasis?
Keeping close to Crowblaze, Silverscar does her best to keep still. Her tabby tail however flickers some, her vibrant eyes flicking from Crowblaze to the loner. Noticing with a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach that the dark tabby was now blocking their way completely. Resisting the urge to unsheathe her claws, Silverscar feels Crowblaze press his shoulder to hers as he introduces them as loners, seeking her brother. Silverscar smiles some, nodding her skull. Knowing full well there was worry written all over her face. She hoped this loner would see it as worry over her 'missing brother' and nothing more.
When a second unfamiliar voice joined the fray, Silverscar felt herself involuntarily press closer to Crowblaze. Her sleek body sucking up the warm of his muscled frame. Starclan, how many of them are there? She wondered as the cat appeared over the slope. A heavily pregnant she-cat, who seemed to sooth the suspicious brown tabby she'd called Rock. Feeling better about the whole situation now, Silverscar straightened pulling from Crowblaze's side she smiles gratefully at the pair. " Thank you." She says softly, hope raging in her chest. Badgerpaw had to be here! What were the chances they'd recently met a 'loner' named Badger?
Moments later her apprentice appeared. His black and white form cresting the hill. Walking down towards them. Silverscar couldn't remain still any longer. She darted to her apprentice, thrusting her muzzle into his neck fur. A purr escaping her throat. " Badger!" She exclaims, her relief of finding the tom alive and well trumping all other feelings. It didn't last long though as her apprentice spoke, his words ruining their cover in five seconds flat. Ears flickering back, Silverscar placed her tail over his maw.
"Badger! I told you not to play such silly games!" She says, pretending like this whole thing was a game. " Now come on Badger we have to get back home its late!" She mews, her vibrant eyes darting around them. Wondering if she'd saved the day or if the loners would attack. Swallowing a lump in her throat, Silverscar looks to Badgerpaw. Lowering her voice she whispers. " Just play along, we'll talk when we're away from these cats." She whispers, her eyes pleading with the young tom. Begging him to come with her and Crowblaze.

36 Moons. Loner. Tom. -
Was he fishbrained? Badgerpaw was right about causing trouble--but what the kitten didn't realize is that he was causing them more trouble now than he ever could've back home. While Silverscar rushed over to greet him, Crowblaze maintained a nonchalant attitude with Rock and Heather, the aforementioned brown tom staring at him suspiciously. "Are you Clan cats?" Rock mewed, and Crowblaze parted his jaws to lie as though their lives depended on it, but they snapped shut as he sensed a new cat approach, a wiry gray tom sniffing him and dancing back. "They smell like RainClan! They are Clan cats!"
Heather gasped, and Rock quickly stepped in front of her, hissing. "Take 'Badger' and go. Your kind are not welcome here! If you think we'll fight for you again, you're dead wrong. Get out!"
Crowblaze's eyes narrowed into orange flames, and he nodded coldly to Rock before herding Badgerpaw and Silverscar out of the Oasis. What is that lump of mud talking about? The tabby warrior searched his memory for anything that would match Rock's distrust and anger towards them... MountainClan...
MountainClan had fought on StoneClan's side, against StormClan--which he now recalled, had been made up of LightningClan and RainClan cats--Crowblaze had been an apprentice at the tom, and had not been allowed to participate in that battle. With good reason. Maybe RainClan had always been sour to the core? Like a bad apple. These cats were clearly the remnants of MountainClan, which explained their grudge against Clan cats. He understood it from their perspective; strange, bossy cats who claimed to own the whole valley, who created rules and then broke them. Who asked for help from cats not necessarily prepared to pay the price in blood...
In case Badgerpaw protested, Crowblaze nipped the back of his heel. "Move. We're going home." He was not above dragging the young tom home by the scruff of his neck fur, and he knew the loners wouldn't stand up for Badgerpaw now that they knew he was an apprentice of RainClan. Aware that at the end of the day, Silverscar was still Badgerpaw's mentor, he held his tongue, letting her scold him first.

Forgetting is easy, but remembering is almost impossible.
Badgerpaw watched as Silverstream rushed over to him and began to speak, then the other cats began to speak. Before he knew it, things were getting bad. Crowblaze then nipped the back of his heel which made him jump forward a little. He turned back to him and stared at him sadly, before hanging his head and walking on. Once they were away from the loners Badgerpaw spoke sadly.
"You shouldn't of come looking for me. My cursed memory only causes more problems. I would of understood if you just forgot about me, I would of done the same for you, whether I wanted to or not."
He continued to hang his head as he slowly walked on. He knew that they were going to look for him, but honestly, he didn't think that they'd find him so quickly. Word Count: 154 Tags: Fawn @teeks Notes:
