68 Moons // Tom // Senior Warrior // StoneClan
He stayed with Duskflower for as long as he could, though it wasn't long before Wolfclaw assigned him to lead a patrol--with a slightly apologetic look, too--and Eagletalon was forced to say goodbye to the she-cat who had his heart trapped right under her dainty little paws. He smiled at the thought of her, and wasn't as sharp on the border patrol as he should have been; his thoughts were elsewhere.
It took a stern word from Thistlerock to jarr him out of his romantic troubles. With a quick word of apology and a long stride forward, Eagletalon resumed command, making sure to scent-mark their new border with LightningClan. Just thinking about the Sun Stones battle had him on edge again; we were outnumbered. I could have died there. Died and then what? Be forced to watch from StarClan as his Clan grieved for him and Duskflower settled down with someone else? Someone like Ashflame?
Truth was, Eagletalon had no idea how many moons he would have left. If they were many. If they were few. If leafbare would even happen for him... I don't want to miss something wonderful. He didn't want to leave this earth without finding out if what he and Duskflower had could blossom into something so much more.
When the patrol ended, he didn't seek out Duskflower--not right away; instead, he went to the medicine cat's den, calling softly so as not to alarm her. "Can I have a word with you, Dawnblossom?" When the tortoiseshell healer invited him, Eagletalon dipped his head courteously and stepped inside, the scents of so many herbs he did not know the names of surrounding him.
"It's about Duskflower," he blurted, never one to beat around the bush. "I like her. I like her more than anyone else I've ever had feelings for. I think she could be the mate I've always wanted." Sandy ears twitched, betraying his nervousness. The normally wry, humorous warrior's gaze was somber. "I don't want to go forward without making sure this is alright with Silverstorm. Can you talk to him? Next time you're at the Moon Tree... Just ask if he wouldn't mind the two of us?"
Eagletalon searched her face for any kind of confirmation, agreement that she would do ask he requested. He did not fear the repurcussions of going on without Silverstorm's blessing, but call him old fashioned, he would definitely prefer to have it. Even if Silverstorm said no... Duskflower was worth the risk of upsetting a StarClan cat. She was worth so much more than that.
