Badgerpaw wasn't stupid, he knew he had a memory problem, he had it since he was a kit, and sure, it had improved since then but it was still a problem. He needed to explore the territory himself, he needed to remember his lesson that he had today, and the only way to do that was to make sure he explored the territory again. He just hoped he didn't get lost. He nose lifted in the air softly and he gave a few sniffs. He only remembered this place because he had been here today but already, it was fading from his memory. He looked around once more and then continued to explore. Although he stopped when he got to the Stone Stream. He gave a small smile, the water looked so beautiful here. His eyes were directed towards the other territory, and he couldn't remember what it was, or had he just not been told yet? He had no idea. He stared at it for some time before looking back towards his own camp. He wondered if anyone had noticed him missing yet. He knew he shouldn't be out on his own, but he was doing Silverstream a favour. He was making sure he didn't forget the lesson she had given him. After Honeypaw's brief but exciting experience with the hawk, one would think that she would be less willing to wander to the borders by herself. You'd be absolutely right; of course, she wasn't by herself. Her mentor Crimsonshadow was hunting nearby, and after telling him what her plans were, the spotted tom gave the apprentice permission to get a drink at the stone stream.
Humming to herself (she'd already caught two finches today, and wasn't too worried about disturbing any more prey), the tabby-and-white she-cat stepped carefully through the rocky, uneven territory, ears pricking forward as the stream's low throaty burble caught her attention.
As Honeypaw bent to get a drink, pink tongue lapping up the cool water (it wasn't too warm, thank StarClan! They still weren't out of the greenleaf heat, it seemed), she saw a black-and-white image reflected in the water just nearby. Curious, whiskers speckled with moisture, the tabby she-cat raised her head to look.
"Oh! Hi!" mewed Honeypaw, surprised to see another cat. But why am I surprised? The stone stream marks a border, after all. Er... Perhaps she and Crimsonshadow should come back and mark it soon? After losing the sun stones to LightningClan, it would be a good idea if they didn't appear weak in front of RainClan too.
But enough of that. If this was a chance to befriend this new tom—he certainly looked young enough to be an apprentice like her—Honeypaw was going to take it. No cat could accuse her of being unfriendly, ever.

Badgerpaw stopped for a second when he heard somebody call. He slowly turned to see another cat, and just stared at her, not saying a word. Now, he knew this was his first time being so far away from camp, well, second since he went exploring with his mentor, Silverstream. He smiled softly, he hadn't forgotten her name quite yet. Well, he didn't think so at least. Now, he wondered, had he met this cat before? He doubted it, but it was possible. After all, he had been trying so hard to remember Silverstream's name and the territory that she showed him, maybe he had forgotten about this cat too? Honestly, he had no idea, but it was something he always had to ask himself due to his memory problems.
"Oh, hello there."
He sat himself down just in front of the border. He was tempted to go across, just to take a drink out of that water, oh, how he would love to do that but no, he couldn't. It would get him in a lot of trouble, and he had to follow the rules. He wondered what to say to this cat, since he had no idea if he had met her before or not, he wasn't sure if he should introduce himself. If he had met her and he did introduce himself, he would look like an idiot, but then again, if he hadn't met her and he didn't introduce himself, he would come across as rude. He had to chose one of the other, and honestly, he had his doubts that he had met this cat before, so, he would take the risk.
"My name is Badgerpaw. Who are you?"
He gave a relaxed and friendly smile as he continued to sit outside the border, making no attempts to cross it at all.

"Hi Badgerpaw, I'm Honeypaw. You're a RainClan cat, aren't you?" Honeypaw had never been to a Gathering before (perhaps this season would be the season? Oh she hoped so), and thus rarely got to interact with apprentices in other Clans. This would be her first encounter, as a matter-of-fact. Smiling encouragingly, Honeypaw wiped the stream-water off of her whiskers with a hasty swipe of her paw, tempted to cross the stream to talk with him properly but knowing she couldn't.
Well, she could, physically, but that would be breaking a rule. Would you risk it, Kitekit? Would you be brave enough to sneak over? But what if Badgerpaw attacks us—er, me? Kitekit never answered her, obviously (or if he did, she didn't have the gift that medicine cats had, to communicate with StarClan cats) but she always felt a little better simply thinking these questions.
It was sometimes easy and sometimes very hard to picture his answer. With every moon that passed, Honeypaw felt as if his voice, his personality, was fading away little by little from her memory...
"What's it like?" Honeypaw mewed, unable to resist. Her tail tip quivered, yellow-green eyes bright with interest. "Being a RainClan cat, I mean. What does fish taste like? Is it gross? Sorry—it just smells bad to us StoneClan cats. Not that you smell bad!" Er, a little but that's easy to ignore! Honeypaw wisely stopped talking about that unintentional insult. Had she offended? Great, her personal mission of making a new friend was off to a slightly terrible start.

Badgerpaw laughed a little as she spoke, he wasn't offended at all, and even if he was, he'd probably forget by sunrise. He sniffed the boarder for a second and slowly rubbed his feet on the ground. He looked up back to her and wondered to himself. Shall he dare? He wanted to cross over to her to talk to her, but he wasn't sure if he was brave enough. After all, he knew he wasn't allowed. he looked around to see if anyone was looking, before edging a tiny little closer, but not quite crossing over. "Yes, I am a Rainclan cat, and it is nice there. It is easy to relax. The fish taste very nice, it isn't slimy as I thought it would be but with it being wet and all, it does go down very easy. You get used to the smell too if you stay there and eat the fish a lot. You really should try some, I would love to bring you some but I don't think the clan would like that, besides, I have never hunted before. I only just been made an apprentice. You don't have to worry about the insult though, I will probably forget by sunrise." He laughed softly once more as he watched her from across the boarder. How much he'd love to go over and meet her, but he could not. He followed all the rules, he had to. He wanted to be the best apprentice he could be, and to do that he had to work hard but surely, a bit of a break wouldn't be so bad? After all, he was going to be working twice as hard as any other apprentice, he had to with his memory problem. Fawn

”Aww, I wish I could try a fish too! ….How about we trade?” There’s nothing in the rules against that, is there? ”I’ll bring you a lizard, and you can bring me a fish, that way no one can accuse us of stealing or not bringing back any food!”
It was a good plan. It seemed like a good plan. Honeypaw briefly thought of her best friend Heronpaw, now Herondive, and there was a tickling tendril of worry in the back of her mind that Herondive might not approve… But if we can be friends with RainClan, then at least that’s one Clan we share a border with that won’t attack us in a hurry. Honeypaw knew about the StormClan battle. It was impossible to grow up in StoneClan and not know; perhaps it was the fact that she had been born well after the initial conflicts those seasons ago, but Honeypaw had a hard time imagining it.
Well, that wasn’t entirely true. It was just beyond the scale of her imagination, even for a kitten who had seen the stars run and hawks swoop down out of the sky as if to carry her off like a mouse. Yet… she could also picture peace, too.
And Badgerpaw seemed peaceful. He even forgave her for the silly slip of the tongue about RainClan’s scent. Glancing at the stream that separated them, Honeypaw briefly wondered if dead lizards could float. Can dead fish float?
”Maybe we can find something to float the prey across with? Can you think of anything in your territory that floats?”
Honeypaw didn’t bother glancing around. She was a StoneClan cat. The only thing that floated in StoneClan was feathers. And they couldn’t exactly hold up a lizard.

Badgerpaw listened to her and his head tilted slightly at her suggestion, actually, it wasn't bad. He would still be bringing food back, and she would be bringing food back to her camp. He always wanted to try lizard, He then heard her question and slowly began to look around unsure what could possibly float. He was still quite new to the area, and he hadn't explored everywhere yet. "I love that idea, let's do it. I don't know what floats, but we can cross territories just for a second to trade and then return back to our own boarders. There shouldn't be a problem." He smiled happily, he backed slowly, waiting for her approval. It was a brilliant idea and he was willing to try it, especially if it meant trying out a lizard for the first time, and she would be able to try a fish for the first time. It was perfect, a plan that couldn't go wrong! Fawn

Honeypaw's ears twitched excitedly. Oh I hope we don't get into trouble for this~ She wasn't going to lie to herself and say this wasn't... kind of fun. Why shouldn't she be able to have friends in another Clan? And if Crimsonshadow asked her where she'd gotten the fish, she'd just say it was a very very lucky catch.
"Okay, I'll be back as soon as I can find a lizard!" Throwing a big smile at the RainClan apprentice, Honeypaw slipped away, traveling over the rocky terrain with the intent to hunt. It wasn't until she calmed down enough to realize she was making a racket with her paws that Honeypaw started to hunt for real.
She'd forgotten how hard lizards were to catch. Trying to recall what Herondive had once said to her about shadows and body temperatures, Honeypaw, in a stroke of luck, glanced under the shadowy overhang of a large outcropping of boulders. She tensed, scenting the air. Lizard! But where in StarClan was it? The brown body of the reptile was blending in so well with the stone, that she stared, bewildered into the gloom until her eyes adjusted.
Then she found it. Ah ha! Caught you!
Honeypaw bopped it once on the head to stun it, then nipped it quickly on the back of the neck, frowning in concentration as she had to bite more than once to make sure it was dead. She'd forgotten that lizard skin could be a little tough. She'd have to warn Badgerpaw about it as soon as she got back.
Returning quickly, she kept a wary eye out for Crimsonshadow as Honeypaw bounded over to the stone stream. "I got one, Badgerpaw!" She whisper-yelled over the boundary line.

Badgerpaw smiled, and when she ran off, he did too. He ran quickly going towards the river where fish would be. Once he was there he sat down beside it and stared, he could see fish, but question was, how did he hunt? He hadn't been taught that yet.....or had he? Had he been taught to hunt yet? He didn't think he did? He stared at the fish and when once came close he tried to catch it with his mouth but that didn't work. He tried several times, but he couldn't quite catch one. He stared at the fish, then slowly looked to his paw. He unsheathed his claws and stared at them for a moment. "Will this work?" He looked to his claws, and then to the fish before trying to swipe at them. They were fast, and they weren't easy to catch, he had to admit. He kept trying, and luckily, he actually managed to get one! Finally! He picked it up in his mouth and then quickly ran back, once there he saw Honeypaw and gently placed the fish down. "I have the fish! Now, which one of us should come over? I have never swam before, have you?" He looked around and gently shook his head. That was a stupid question. She was in Stoneclan, and they didn't swim.....did they? He was in Rainclan, he should be able to swim. He grabbed the fish and quickly jumped in, then began to swim slowly over the border, it wasn't as easy as it looked! His head went under a few times but he was doing ok, enough to get across anyway. Once he was over the border he placed the fish down.
"There that wasn't too hard. Nice to meet you Honeypaw."
He smiled, he hadn't forgotten her name yet! That was good, he was happy about that. He looked around and gave a few sniffs, he was actually in another territory now! This was amazing! He just hoped nobody saw him here, otherwise he would get into a lot of trouble.

STORMHEART Thank Starclan that the heat was slowly becoming less unbearable, because the gray and white tom had begun to wonder if the heat wouldn't eventually suck his soul from his body and send him straight to Starclan! As it was, he was getting older for a warrior, but a lively lifestyle and lack of major injuries had left him luckier than most. So he sensed very little muscle and joint pain, even as the mornings began to get progressively cooler. Stormheart had decided to do some reconnaissance, simply wandering around the rebels camp and trying to figure out how far into Rainclan territory they were probing, and would they soon become a problem for competing supply. Bluewave was just so busy with Timberstar... so Stormheart had volunteered. Besides, he joked, at least the clan wouldn't be losing young prime warrior flesh if he was captured or hurt. However everything seemed pretty much the same. The Purists were keeping close to home, although a few scents led out into territory, and he recognized a few of his own loyal clanmates scents. While he was alarmed, he debated if he should tell Bluewave or not. With how tense it was, it was natural that some cats would seek to try and contact friends or family in the other camp. But was it possible that there could be a spy? No, the Purists would have done something if they had known about Timberstar's sickness. Once he came within sight of a Purist patrol he decided it would be best to retreat. But it was still early, and he did not particularly wish to return to camp with what information he did have, so instead, he turned towards the outer borders, wondering if Stoneclan had been up to any mischief. To his dismay as he padded out of the trees to the edge of the water he saw two apprentices chatting just over the Lightningclan border on the opposite bank. Badgerpaw was in Stoneclan territory.
"Badgerpaw, return to Rainclan territory immediately!"
Normally Stormheart would not be so harsh and so abrupt, particularly with a cat who was not his own apprentice, but that apprentice was breaking the code. Rainclan did not need another conflict, nor did it need one of their apprentices saying something which could be used against them. So he stood tall, his spine crooked slightly, and fur fluffed up, tail lashing. Instead of anger and rage on his muzzle though, was incredible gravity and wariness. Hopefully no Stoneclan cat would come by and make this a crossclan incident.

"I have the fish! Now, which one of us should come over? I have never swam before, have you?"
Honeypaw had shaken her head, no, she didn't know how to swim--and even if the stone stream was relatively shallow, Honeypaw didn't know if she wanted to take her chances trying to cross. "Be careful!" She mewed softly to Badgerpaw, and her heart jumped into her throat, quivering like a startled bird as she watched the RainClan cat swim the width of the stream.
The fishy smell was even stronger up close (big surprise), and Honeypaw grinned cheerily at him. "Nice to meet you properly, Badgerpaw! Be careful when you eat the lizard, okay? The legs aren't very good so you can just ignore t-those..."
Honeypaw's pleasant babbling abruptly trailed off as an enormous gray warrior appeared, spine arched, on the RainClan side of the border. She fluffed up immediately, though her short tabby and white coat was nothing compared to the hulking tom hissing at them both.
Freezing, she glanced back to Badgerpaw with wide eyes. What do we do? Should she take the fish? Would that get him into even more trouble? Nervously scanning the nearby horizon for any signs of a StoneClan patrol or her mentor, Honeypaw quickly whispered. "We'll try this again later, okay? I don't want you to get into more trouble!"
Honeypaw picked up the lizard, backing away slowly to give the RainClan apprentice some space. In an effort to nullify some of the trouble he was in, Honeypaw bravely tried to stick up for him. "It was my idea! I wanted to see how a RainClan cat swam! Please don't be angry with him, he was just trying to show me." Would that work? Honeypaw made no mention of the prey, and hoped the gray warrior wouldn't put two-and-two together (or was that fish-and-lizard together?) and realize they'd been about to exchange.

Badgerpaw smiled at Honeypaw then looked to the older tom as he was told to go home. The next thing he knew, the deal was off. He was actually looking forward in trying lizard. He looked to Honeypaw before looking to the older tom and slowly picked up his fish. He thought about going back, but he promised Honeypaw that he would let her try a fish. He quickly ran up to her and dropped in front of her with a small smile.
"I promised you. Take it."
He then grabbed the lizard and ran back and quickly jumped in the river. He swam as fast as he could until he reached the other side, and when he was finally back he placed the lizard down with a soft sigh of relief. He looked back to the older tom and spoke once more.
"Sorry I crossed over. I meant no harm."
He looked back to Honeypaw before looking back to the older tom. He didn't know how he would react, but the deal was done, they had made the switch, now it was time to try the prey, he would do that very soon.

STORMHEART This was getting out of hand. Stormheart watched in disbelief and frank fury as the two apprentices swapped prey, and then Badgerpaw swam over again. There was no look of repentance, no sense of chastisement. The tom just casually dropped the prey, Stoneclan prey, onto the bank.
Then he said he was sorry.
Stormheart forced his back to relax, and his fur to lay flat. He stared the apprentice straight in the eyes.
"You had better thank Starclan I am not your mentor. That said, despite not being in a place of authority over you, I am still a senior warrior who just saw you break the code not once but twice." The gray older warrior looked back across the border, staring down the apprentice with the hope that she would leave. He did not need to deal with a Stoneclan patrol coming by and the apprentice concocting some ridiculous story to save her own skin.
"Badgerpaw, you broke the code in two ways, one, you disregarded clan borders, and crossed them without permission or due reason. Two you took prey, our prey, and you traded it to a cat in another clan. You took prey from another territory. I know you are young, but even kits in the nursery are taught the code." There was a reason you were supposed to start educating your kits early, so that something like this didnt happen.
"Not only did you break the code, you also put yourself and your clan in danger. What do you think Stoneclan would do if they found out that Rainclan was divided? They would take advantage of our weakness."
In many ways, Stormheart believed, Stoneclan had more of a right than anyone to be angry, after all Rainclan had driven them from their home. He still winced at the memory of that decision. But one did not question one's leader... until recently.
"While I cannot punish you as fully as your mentor or Bluewave may, I will report your actions to them. Also that prey that you seem to be so excited about, do not forget another part of clan code. You do not eat until the queens and elders are fed. I will make sure you take that directly to the elders."
Was he being harsh? Maybe. But he had not cuffed the tom over the head as he might have been considering, nor had he punished him nearly as much as he deserved for so blatantly breaking the code. He flicked his tail at the apprentice to ensure he followed him back to camp. @savagewolf Fawn

He's so brave! While the large gray tom veritably ignored her words of reason, Badgepaw quickly left her the fish and swiped the lizard in its place, dashing back across the border before she could protest. Afraid of getting into worse trouble and still able to hear the warrior's strong voice scolding Badgerpaw, Honeypaw dipped her head in thanks before hurrying back to her own mentor.
Good luck, Badgerpaw. I hope I can see you again! She liked being friends with cats in other Clans, but why did it have to be such a risky endeavor? Why did it have to be frowned upon? Surely her mentor, Crimsonshadow, still had friends in TreeClan. How could he leave his whole world behind, otherwise? There must've been parts of it he was still holding onto. There must've been cats he was still friendly with.
The fish tasted strange on her tongue, but she didn't mind, carrying the present over StoneClan's dusty territory without error. Maybe she could see Badgerpaw at the Gathering and thank him for the fish. Her nose wrinkled in amusement now that she was far enough from the stone stream to relax. I hope he remembers not to eat the legs.

Badgerpaw looked down towards the floor, his ears flat as he said nothing. He waited until the male had finished talking first, and only when he was done, did he slowly lift his head. He noticed Honeypaw had left, then he looked back to the male once more.
"But I brought back prey! As long as I bring prey to the clan, isn't that good enough? Does it matter what prey it is? Honeypaw has got prey for her clan, and I can prey for our clan. It's as if nothing was lost. Can I have just one nibble? Just on little taste? Please? Honeypaw said the legs aren't very nice, I could have a little taste of them!"
He looked down for a moment, not saying another word. he really thought he was doing a good thing, sure he crossed over for a second, but he was still bringing prey back, why was that a problem? It shouldn't matter if it were prey from their territory or not.
