So let go, let go, jump in. Oh well, what you waiting for?
Dawnblossom was in the middle of her morning inventory when Batear stepped quietly into her den, standing aside for a moment until she acknowledged him. It clearly wasn't an emergency or he wouldn't have waited silently for her, but she asked what she could help him with. He gave her a respectful dip of his head before informing her that Hawkstar had asked to see her in his den. Assuring her that was all, he excused himself, leaving her to make her way over to see Hawkstar on her own.
Her whiskers twitched curiously, wondering what he wanted to see her about, but as Batear hadn't sounded too urgent, she took a moment to move a few piles of herbs back into their proper places before she left. She didn't want any apprentices getting any foolish ideas, daring each other to try one of her herbs and making themselves sick or some such nonsense. They were less tempting when they were hidden away rather than lying in the middle of the floor.
With a last look around to make sure she hadn't missed anything, she turned and made for Hawkstar's den at a brisk pace, pausing briefly outside to call in, “Hawkstar? Batear said you wanted to see me.” She stepped inside a moment later. She had been invited, after all, and she wasn't going to waste time standing around outside and waiting for a second invitation to come inside. She took a few steps in and sat to one side, out of the way should any other cat need to enter the den, curling her tail neatly around her paws. She dipped her head to Hawkstar in respectful greeting before getting to the heart of the matter, “What did you need from me?”

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains He had spent much of the night lying awake, recalling past events and pondering decisions to be made. To say he was displeased with LightningClan in recent days would have been an understatement. Their move on Sun Stones in Greenleaf had been a loss to the Clan, and had done little to quell the displeasure much of the warriors felt toward their moorland-dwelling neighbors. Quite the opposite, actually. LightningClan had succeeded only in stoking the embers of StoneClan's anger, turning them into veritable flames. It worried Hawkstar that even those too young to have been a part of the StormClan battle felt the same hatred.
The Clan had already begun its morning rituals, warriors and apprentices alike milling through camp or ducking through the entrance to the camp, performing duties as they should. And here he was, still pondering LightningClan's unpredictability. Firestar and her Clan cannot be trusted. He thought to himself. As though this thought stirred him from his daze, the sand-colored leader straightened, pale amber gaze searching the moving figures. The familiar cream and white pelt of his daughter, Herondive, caught his attention.
Still seated atop the Rock Pile, he motioned for her to come closer. Looking a little bewildered, the she-cat did as she was instructed, padding up the string of rocks a little ways so that he wasn't gazing down at her. He met her part way down, and she mewed questioningly. "Hi, dad. What's up..?" He couldn't help but note she looked at him as though she suspected she were in trouble. He purred comfortingly, touching his nose to her head reassuringly. "I need to speak with some of my senior warriors. Unfortunately, I think most have gone out already. I am looking for Hailstrike, Wolfclaw, Eagletalon and your mother, Frozenrain. Have Vipertail help you if need be."
She nodded quickly to him, disappearing to find her brother. His eyes landed next on Batear as the tom padded through. "Batear." He called loud enough for the warrior to hear. "Can you tell Dawnblossom I wish to speak with her in my den?" Receiving an acknowledgment from the tom, he turned on his paws and disappeared into his den once more. Distracted as he was, he couldn't be sure how much time passed before the familiar voice of StoneClan's current medicine cat broke through his thoughts. Straightening slowly, he called out to her. "Yes, please come in Dawnblossom."
He paused momentarily, nodding to her in greeting as she entered and let the she-cat seat herself comfortably. He dropped himself slowly into a seated position, his tail sitting atop his large brown paws. When he figured she was ready, he cleared his throat and began. "I want you to understand, Dawnblossom, that I am by no means trying to trod on your toes. I am simply concerned, as many of us are, about LightningClan's current behavior and the upcoming Leafbare. Before the ground gets too cold and prey too scarce, StoneClan will be taking the Sun Stones back."
He hesitated thoughtfully, pale amber eyes looking to her tiredly; it was not difficult to see the night had been unkind to him. He'd been worried for moons, and perhaps it was making him look older than he was. Not that he was necessarily young anymore. Regardless, he felt no need to hide this around Dawnblossom. She was a medicine cat, skilled at her job; she would see it no matter how well he hid it. "I was hoping to speak with you about your current store of herbs; is it holding well, is there anything you need. I am willing to assign a warrior the task of helping you collect more if need be. And... Have you considered taking on an apprentice? With what is to come, it might help you to have an extra set of paws to help in your duties."
As he'd said before, the StoneClan leader meant no disrespect in any of what he said. He simply harbored too much worry concerning his Clan's well-being recently. A fleeting thought crossed his mind, of TreeClan and their help in taking back StoneClan moons ago. Perhaps they would appreciate a warning surrounding LightningClan's ambitious activity as of late... leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | tagged | table by phoenix@zen

So let go, let go, jump in. Oh well, what you waiting for?
Dawnblossom gave her leader her full attention as he began speaking. She became briefly confused, wondering how sharing the information that he planned to take Sun Stones back before leaf-bare was trodding on her toes, but it seemed as though there was more he was going to say, so she remained quiet for the time being, waiting patiently for him to continue as she studied him in the dim light of his den. She fought the urge to ask him how he had been sleeping. She could tell, even in this light, but if Hawkstar told her himself it would be easier to deal with. She wondered if a few poppy seeds might be in order to help their leader get a decent night's sleep tonight. It was important for Hawkstar to get proper rest, or how else could he be expected to make decisions with a clear head?
He continued at last, and Dawnblossom's ears perked as he asked about her herb stores and if she needed any assistance. And then brought up the reason she might think he was 'trodding on her toes' as he had put it. She took no offense to it, however, for she had been wondering about taking an apprentice for some time now. “Actually Hawkstar, I have been thinking about taking an apprentice... I just wasn't sure if it was... too early for me.” As StoneClan's medicine cat, she had plenty of doubts about her decisions, but like Hawkstar, she was a figurehead and someone all other cats looked to for guidance (at least on health and spiritual matters), and she was not one to let others ever see her doubt.
But Hawkstar knew that burden well, and she felt as though she could let her guard down with him, if but a little, in the hopes that he might also feel comfortable doing the same with her. Hawkstar had a mate and deputy he could confide in, but Dawnblossom wasn't sure how much of his own burden he allowed himself to place on either of them. If she could add herself to the mix so perhaps he could spread that burden out so he didn't feel like he was heaping too much of it on one cat, than she hoped he would be able to trust her enough to do so. She was fairly new to her post, so she wasn't sure she had earned that much trust from him yet. It was also her short time as medicine cat that had her unsure if it might be too early to take an apprentice.
“However, hearing you feel the same way has me a bit more confident about it,” she paused and glanced down at her paws, thinking of Ivywhisker. She swallowed the rise of grief and lifted her gaze back to his, “The loss of Ivywhisker was a heavy one for StoneClan. There are some things I... I never got to learn firstpaw, and I do not wish to leave StoneClan in such a vulnerable position again.” Her gaze hardened slightly, “With LightningClan acting so predictably dishonorable, stealing territory on a sacred night of peace, it only strengthens my resolve to take an apprentice. Who knows where and when they might strike next. The sooner StoneClan has another medicine cat, the better. We'll be far more secure, and if hostilities are to escalate, I will certainly need the extra set of paws."
"As for my herbs,” she glanced briefly back out of the den, in the general direction of her own, “For now, my stores are in good shape. I have been careful to keep them very well stocked since LightningClan claimed the Sun Stones. Petalrain has been helping me quite often.” A soft smile managed its way onto her muzzle at the mention of her daughter. It still made her proud each time Petalrain volunteered to help her, knowing how few warriors ever enjoyed such tasks.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains He smiled at the she-cat warmly as she admitted having considered taking on an apprentice in recent days. He listened to her quietly, his head dipping in respect as she brought up the topic of StoneClan's previous medicine cat, Ivywhisker. There was a somber glint to his eyes, remembering the young she-cat, but he said nothing, instead letting Dawnblossom finish her piece. It was interesting, to him, hearing her speak of LightningClan as she did. Most of StoneClan was on edge about their moor-dwelling neighbours. It would seem even medicine cats were not immune to the effects of LightningClan's aggression.
Briefly, he wondered what LightningClan's medicine cat's position was currently. Were the medicine cats truly neutral in all of this? Or did Rookfrost play a part in LightningClan's current ambition? It was difficult to say, as an outsider. Refocusing on Dawnblossom, he felt relief flood him, hearing that her herb store was not in dire condition. As she mentioned her daughter, he nodded understandingly. "If you should ever feel as though Petalrain needs a break, do not hesitate to take another warrior in her place. If they have an issue with the task you've assigned them, they can come speak with me." He assured her.
With a thoughtful wave of his tail, he backtracked a bit to the beginning of her speech. "I regret that you were forced to step into Ivywhisker's paws so soon in her life. However, you have proved yourself to be skilled at the job, just as she was. In my eyes, you have proven yourself to StoneClan, and should be respected in return. Therefore you should not fear my judgment at any moment; my ears are always open to you, Dawnblossom." Offering her another smile, he dipped his muzzle slightly to her. "I look forward to hearing who your choice for apprentice will be."
Glancing behind her, he frowned slightly. "That is all I had for you specifically, unless you have any questions yourself... I was hoping Herondive would have found the others by now, but it seems that is not the case." A pale amber gaze returned to meet hers. "I hope to discuss our current LightnignClan... Situation." He meowed, stressing the last word as his gaze narrowed. "I would be honoured if you attended the discussion, so that you might be kept up to date on StoneClan's current affairs. Otherwise, I will not trap you in this den." wolfclaw deputy of stoneclan The silver-backed tom crouched behind a stone, green-gold eyes fixed on the thrush pecking at the sparse grass. Shifting the weight in his hind legs, he pounced, ending the bird's life quickly with a bite to the neck. He straightened, the bird dangling from his jaws, glancing around for the rest of his patrol. Swiftstrike, Earthstep, and Dawnchaser were already gathering at their predetermined rally point gathering up the prey they had stashed. Wolfclaw padded over to them, long strides closing the distance quickly. Seeing that everyone had already gathered up most of the prey, Wolfclaw reached down to pick up the other bird he had managed to pin down. Sweeping his tail around in a 'follow me' gesture, he strode back toward camp, setting a pace easy for the smaller cats to follow.
The camp was in sight when a fluffy, dark-furred cat came bounding out. The cat glanced around a bit, then caught sight of Wolfclaw. Waving his tail, he bounded over. "Wolfclaw, Hawkstar wants to see you." Wolfclaw nodded, and the young cat hesistate a moment before speaking up again. "Do you know where Eagletalon and Hailstrike are? I couldn't find them in camp."
Wolfclaw signaled with his tail for his patrol to go on ahead and lowered his two pieces of prey to the ground. "Eagletalon is leading a border patrol along the RainClan border, and Hailstrike is hunting with her patrol in the woods." Vipertail nodded, giving a quick 'thank you' before heading off toward the border, stretching into a run soon after leaving. Wolfclaw picked up his birds, finishing off his journey into camp.
As he dropped his prey onto the fresh-kill pile, he looked around. The members of his patrol had dispersed, going off to eat or share tongues or find other duties to tend to. Not catching sight of a certain tortoiseshell, Wolfclaw refocused his attention to Hawkstar. With confident motions, Wolfclaw bounded up the rock pile to the leader's den.
Announcing himself, he paused a moment before stepping inside. He dipped his head to Dawnblossom, turning to Hawkstar afterward, dipping his head again. "Vipertail said you wished to see me?" It wasn't phrased quite like a question, but there was still an edge of specualtion at the end of his words. After receiving confirmation, he moved to find a place to comfortably settle, wrapping his tail over his paws and waiting. for the strength of the pack is the wolf and the strength of the wolf is the pack background image | rudyard kipling | Fawn , Phoenix , Insidious , @zen , BlooRey DVD | table by phoenix

65 Moons // Tom // Senior Warrior // StoneClan Had Herondive not found him sooner, the patrol along the RainClan border would have otherwise taken a little longer than usual to return. He’d been about to allow the party of 5 to hunt at their own leisure on the way back, when the ginger-and-white she-cat he had personally mentored ran up to greet him.
”Hawkstar wants to see you.” Said Herondive, breathless.
Eagletalon flicked the tip of her ear with his tail, smiling. ”Thanks kitten, I’ll go see what the old tom wants.” It must’ve been serious if Hawkstar had actually sent out a warrior to find him.
”You’re in charge, Batear.” He nodded once to the smoky black tom, passing the role of leadership over before he started for camp. ”Any clues on what this is about?” He mewed, fierce amber eyes glancing her way.
Herondive shook her head, still regaining her breath.
I bet a dove’s wing and two lizard tails this has something to do with LightningClan. If it didn’t, then he and Hawkstar definitely needed to have a talk. Parting from the young warrior once they were safely within the stone barrier of the camp perimeter, Eagletalon joined two other cats already in attendance beside Hawkstar.
”Dawnblossom, Wolfclaw.” He had a nod and a smile for them both, combining respect with his usual ‘casual’ attitude. They were all the same rank, in his eyes. He’d earned his place in the Clan, both beside and apart from Hawkstar; he knew that if his brother hadn’t felt the same way, he wouldn’t have called him here for what seemed to be an important meeting.
”Did I miss the best part?” Eagletalon’s gaze glinted as he took a seat beside Wolfclaw, his thoughts threatening to distract him as he realized, with a small spike of happiness, that Duskflower was Dawnblossom’s sister. Of course, he hadn’t forgotten, and he could never forget the pretty calico that had hidden in the cave with him. It would be silly to ask her to say hello to Duskflower for him; it would be birdbrained, even.
Just say hello yourself! StarClan, he was like an apprentice who didn’t know how to talk to she-cats.
Turning his focus back to more serious matters, he glanced around Hawkstar’s den at the other faces, trying to gauge the mood. So far no important plans seemed to have been made without him. That was good, because he had quite a bit of input as far as LightningClan was concerned.

Frozenrain returned to camp with a hare and made a beeline for the freshkill pile, but on her way, she nearly collided headfirst with her daughter, Herondive. She made a small, startled noise, but it was sufficiently muffled by the piece of prey in her mouth. Lowering it to her paws for a moment, she purred softly and pressed her nose against Herondive’s cheek. She hadn’t seen a lot of her daughter since she became a warrior, but she couldn’t blame her for being excited about her new duties. Herondive said something about Hawkstar wanting to speak with her in his den, and even though her eyes lit up in momentary concern, she nodded and thanked her daughter for passing on the message. Before they parted ways, she made sure Herondive promised to spend tomorrow afternoon with her so they could properly catch up.
She placed her catch on the freshkill pile, and then traveled across camp to her mate’s den. Before she entered, she was greeted by Wolfclaw, Eagletalon and Dawnblossom’s scent. With all of the high ranks present (as well as another senior warrior), she felt a little out of place, but she knew Hawkstar wouldn’t have sent for her if her presence wasn’t vital. She announced her arrival with a polite clearing of her throat, and then ducked inside. She smiled warmly at Dawnblossom, dipped her head to Wolfclaw, and let her tail lay delicately against Eagletalon's shoulder as she walked by; she didn’t hesitate to move fluidly across the den to claim a seat at Hawkstar’s flank.
She pressed her nose against his cheek, but was quick to draw away and settle for resting the tip of her tail on top of his paw. In company, it felt inappropriate to make an overwhelming show of their affection. “Herondive said you wanted to talk?” She assumed he had meant alone, but she knew better than to forget he was StoneClan’s leader as much as he was her mate. If their deputy and medicine cat were present, it meant that he had something important he wanted to discuss; she was thankful he trusted her enough to want her opinion on the matter, whatever it may be.

five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain With leaf-bare just around the corner and her desire to support the clan as strong as ever, Hailstrike had volunteered to lead a hunting patrol and in doing so, doubted that she had surprised anyone, least of all her former apprentice who appeared at her side a moment later. Wolfclaw had given her permission to drag whatever lazy warriors she could find still laying around the den along with her, and she had led the rather reluctant group toward the small set of trees in the corner of their territory. Now, however, the icy eyes that had fixed her clanmates with a glare daring them to do something other than their job were focused on a plump mouse nosing through the undergrowth. Muscles tensed under pale fur as she collected herself. Just one more moment, and… The sound of thundering paws reached her ears and the mouse, suddenly aware of its perilous situation, bolted for the closest hole in the ground. Wildly she swiped at it with unsheathed claws (missing by a long shot) before rising to her paws and looking around for the culprit, thoroughly irritated at losing valuable prey.
Piercing blue eyes locked unforgivingly on Vipertail’s gray form, and the young tom, as if sensing the gathering storm, spoke up and quickly relayed his message. That had her pausing, and curiosity began to replace ire. After asking the messenger if he had anything else to do and receiving a negative answer, she told him that he was now busy; he was to take her spot on the hunting patrol, for they could use every paw they had. She finished the instructions with a pointed look and a, ”Perhaps, if you’re lucky, you’ll even find that mouse you chased away.” Moments later, she was approaching a different cat on the patrol, a gray and tan feline with whom she was very familiar. Demeanor softening ever so slightly as something like fondness and pride entered her gaze, Hailstrike told Graniteclaw that he was now in charge of the hunting patrol because she was wanted back at camp. She would bring back her own prey.
The journey back was faster than the one out to the woods, because, unlike her clan mates, she had no desire to waste time by leisurely strolling through their territory. At a steady pace, she made her way home, slowing only when she entered the camp. After depositing her fresh-kill on the small pile, she padded over to Hawkstar’s den. The sound of voices coming from the interior told her that she was likely the last to arrive, and politely acknowledging the other cats present, she slipped into the den. Quite the prestigious group had been assembled, she noted, with the leader, deputy and medicine cat standing beside each other. Frozenrain, whom she remembered moments later was also Hawkstar’s mate, and Eagletalon were the only other senior warriors present, and she glanced at her old friend curiously, wondering if he knew anything more than she did.

So let go, let go, jump in. Oh well, what you waiting for?
Dawnblossom had never really spent any time with Hawkstar. Even since becoming medicine cat, she had busied herself trying to make sure her own duties were in order rather than better familiarizing herself with her leader. She realized now that had been a mistake on her part. As medicine cat, she was a leader to her Clan when it came to matters of their health and spirit. And there was always the chance that she would receive some sign from StarClan about the future of the StoneClan as well. She would need to work closely with Hawkstar when it came to such matters.
It was important they develop a good relationship and that they could understand and trust each other. So she was grateful that he seemed the kind of cat she could easily get along with, as he listened intently to her speak, giving her his full attention. He assured her he would stand behind her, should she need help from any warrior in the Clan and they gave her any trouble about it. She didn't anticipate that being a problem. They could grumble all they wanted, it didn't bother her, but they always helped out in the end anyway, seeming to realize that it was important for the Clan. But she appreciated his support regardless.
His reassuring praise was met with a small smile and she dipped her head, “Thank you, Hawkstar. I will be keeping my eyes open for the right signs and you will certainly be the first to know once I've found the right cat for the job. And,” she paused, looking back up at him, “My ears are always open for you as well, Hawkstar. I am your medicine cat, and I will support you however you need me to do so.” If that simply meant lending an ear so he could release any pent up frustration or stress that came with being a leader, then she was more than happy to listen, and would keep anything he told her strictly to herself.
She shook her head as Hawkstar asked if she had anything else to say to him. She was quite satisfied with their short meeting. Her ears flicked back briefly as he mentioned LightningClan, and made no move to leave after he invited her to join the discussion he was about to have with his chosen Clanmates. Instead she stood and moved a bit closer to him, ensuring there was more room for whatever cats were about to join them, “I would be glad to stay, thank you.” She settled herself down again as Wolfclaw entered the den first, curling her tail back around her paws and returning the deputy's greeting with a polite dip of her own head.
She nodded in greeting as each of the rest of the cats Hawkstar had invited for the meeting filed in, but otherwise remained quiet, waiting for Hawkstar to speak and begin the meeting. She wasn't entirely sure just which cats he had invited, but after a decently long pause in which every cat settled themselves inside the den in one way or another, she looked expectantly at their leader, assuming that the last invited cat had arrived. The den was a tad crowded with so many cats, but so long as no one else was joining them it wasn't uncomfortably close.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains Tired amber eyes lit up with a trace of a smile as the StoneClan leader dipped his head to the medicine cat before him. "Thank you." Two simple words carried the weight of his gratitude as she rose to move slightly closer to him. Approaching pawsteps drew his attention, ears pivoting toward the entrance as he looked up. It was as though a whole new cat suddenly appeared in Hawkstar's place. His back straightened, pulling himself to his full height as exhaustion slipped behind the mask of the strong leader he wore before his Clan.
The third figurehead was the first to appear in the entrance of the den. Nodding his acknowledgement to the gray deputy, he answered the question offered by Wolfclaw. "Yes, I sent him and Herondive to fetch some of you. Thank you for coming so quickly." With a wave of his tail, he invited Wolfclaw in. Simply having the gray tom in the same area seemed to help Hawkstar relax, if only fractionally. It felt like he had someone else to share the weight of his burden with. ...Not that he wished his burden upon anyone else. Eagletalon, was next to arrive.
With a chuckle, the sand-colored tom shook his head. "No, I promise you have not missed the best part, brother." He assured his friend. The tension visibly melted from his shoulders when a familiar gray and white she-cat padded into the den, coming to press her nose to his cheek. Resting his head momentarily on hers, he rumbled a greeting. Her tail resting against his paw was a comfort he'd not realize he'd needed. Offering his mate a smile, he nodded. "Yes, I did." As the last member of his requested group arrive, he nodded to Hailstrike and continued.
"I wish this discussion could be on more... Upbeat matters." His voice was steady, strong as his gaze lingered on each member of the assembled party. "But the focal point of this meeting is LightningClan." Feeling the energy shift and voices surfacing, the StoneClan tom waved his tail to recollect the silence he sought. "Some of you might not have agreed with my decision to allow LightningClan to take the Sun Stones from us in Greenleaf. Believe me when I say I understand." He paused, a heavy sigh escaping him as his pale amber eyes slipped closed. "But try to understand my perspective."
A sharpness had returned to his eyes when they snapped open again, his voice growing strong as he continued. "Greenleaf prey was plentiful amongst the rest of StoneClan's territory. Apprentices and warriors alike consistently returned with prey to add to the pile; what good would senseless battle, senseless risk of precious lives have been to us then?" The question was very much rhetorical, but the weight of his gaze was enough to make others think. "Even so, the Sun Stones are not a piece of land I wish LightningClan to own permanently. We will be taking back the Sun Stones. As Leaf-fall grows cooler, and Leafbare draws near, we will take back what is rightfully ours."
A thoughtful twitch of his tail was the only element to disturb his stillness. "With that comes preparation. I will require all of you, save Dawnblossom, to be my ambassadors. Patrols will increase in frequency, and everyone, apprentices and warriors alike, will train in sparring matches. Our skills must be as sharp as our claws. But that is not all I ask of you. I ask now for your opinions, your concerns and your questions." wolfclaw deputy of stoneclan "Thank you for coming so quickly." Wolfclaw dipped his head; he would never fail to answer Hawkstar's calls, not while there was life still in him. He settled, waiting for the others summoned to arrive. Eagletalon stepped in with a question that brought a smile to his muzzle, as well as to Hawkstar's. Frozenrain entered, moving immediately to her mate's side, and Hailstrike entered soon after. Wolfclaw offered a nod and slight smile to each cat as they entered, and once everyone was settled he turned to Hawkstar.
As Hawkstar spoke, Wolfclaw's expression fell from ease to sober, eyes darkening at the mention of the loss of the sun stones. Hawkstar continued to explain his reasonings, Wolfclaw forced himself to pause and really evaluate his leader's motives. With the promise of reclaiming their land, his ears pricked forward to listen closely.
"Patrols will increase in frequency, and everyone, apprentices and warriors alike, will train in sparring matches. Our skills must be as sharp as our claws. But that is not all I ask of you. I ask now for your opinions, your concerns and your questions."
Wolfclaw lifted the end of his tail from his paws briefly to signal that he wanted to speak, and lifted his head from the slightly bowed position it had rested in. "I'll make sure to rotate warriors evenly for the extra patrols, and make sure that every warrior not hunting or patrolling brushes up on their skills." He paused a moment. "I also think group training sessions would be helpful; work on tactics and teamwork." He turned to Eagletalon and Hailstrike. "Eagletalon, Hailstrike, would either of you like to help organize these group sessions with me?" He waited for them to respond, then turned to Hawkstar again.
"At some point, I'd also like to spar with each warrior to evaluate their skill levels, that way we can decide who is more suited to the frontlines, who is better for reinforcements, and who is best to defend the camp." He raised his tail slightly again before anyone could speak up about is well-being. "Not all at once. Just sometime before we decide to attack."
He rested his tail over his paws again, letting his gaze drift over the remaining cats. He dipped his head slightly, silently announcing the end of his piece, reopening the floor for the rest of the cats. for the strength of the pack is the wolf and the strength of the wolf is the pack background image | rudyard kipling | Fawn , Insidious , Phoenix , @zen , BlooRey DVD | table by phoenix

65 Moons // Tom // Senior Warrior // StoneClan ”Of course,” Eagletalon mewed with earnest enthusiasm. As far as battle training was concerned, Eagletalon would always volunteer to help pass on his knowledge to the younger generations. Seeing Hawkstar take this so seriously—seeing Wolfclaw live up to his title—it was a sight to behold; it was a shame the rest of the Clan could not be present for this council session.
He would speak up on their behalf, however; as a non-ranking warrior beyond his senior status, Eagletalon liked to believe he represented many of the other warriors by being here, right along with Frozenrain and Hailstrike.
”You know I trust your judgment, Hawkstar, in damn near everything.” Eagletalon rose to his paws with a mixture of solemnity and fervor, the light in his eyes making it clear even if his body language hadn’t that he wished to speak. ”But I think we need to do more than just take back the Sun Stones. Firestar needs to be taught that StoneClan isn’t afraid of her or her penchant for almost breaking the Code.” With a glower, he recalled with near perfect accuracy the memory of battle upon the Sun Stones, the look of shock and betrayal in his Clanmates’ eyes when they realized they were badly outnumbered. It brought to mind other, more vicious battles.
And perhaps that was why he wanted to make such a statement this time.
”We need to strike right at their camp, Hawkstar.” Eagletalon quickly raised a paw, as if to hold back any upcoming protests. ”Now hear me out. LightningClan and RainClan both drove us away all those moons ago, and we all thought Redstar was a fair leader. What we have on our paws is a new kind of LightningClan, that isn’t afraid to spill blood for the sake of land.” It was frightening, but it also filled him with a kind of energy he hadn’t felt in moons. ”What if we launched an attack right on LightningClan’s camp, and took all of their fresh kill?” Eagletalon’s eyes glittered with a kind of dark mirth. ”And if Firestar even dares complain about lack of food at the next Gathering, you can always tell her to go try hunting in the Sun Stones, since she wanted it so badly.”
It was leaf-fall, not leafbare. If it were the worst season of the year, Eagletalon wouldn’t have suggested such a bold tactic to rob their neighbors of fresh kill. However, the prey was still running, and Firestar was probably still scheming for the next piece of StoneClan territory she wanted to sink her claws into. The idea of LightningClan cats having to hunt tirelessly all over again to restock their stolen prey pile was too good to pass up.
The questions were clear in Eagletalon’s mind as he glanced briefly to each cat in the circle before his gaze rested upon Hawkstar. What do you think, brother? Can we get away with this? Damn, he hoped he said yes. Eagletalon felt like he had fire-ants in his fur, he was practically itching to teach LightningClan a long overdue lesson. --- Word Count: 515 Words Tags: BlooRey DVD , Insidious , @zen , Amber , Phoenix Notes: xD Next post will be WAY shorter, just wanted to get the general plan posted.

Frozenrain tensed at mention of LightningClan. She had wrongfully believed Firestar would be a fair, and noble leader, but she supposed there was nothing a dedicated leader wouldn’t do for their Clan—it was just a shame she felt the need to take something that didn’t belong to her when there didn’t seem to be a genuine reason behind it. As far as she knew LightningClan was bountiful in prey, as were most of the Clans, so Sun Stones should’ve still been in their possession. Hawkstar assured everyone in the room that they were going to take it back, and she offered her agreement and support in the form of a sharp nod. She had never been the kind of cat that supported senseless fighting, but this wasn’t senseless; Sun Stones belonged to StoneClan, and they had every right to make retaliation.
Her eyes landed on Wolfclaw as he spoke in a show of respect for his input. She liked his idea, and when he reopened the floor, her eyes were drawn to Hawkstar’s next in search of his opinion. However, it wasn’t long before Eagletalon spoke up, and what he sought to add to the conversation alarmed her greatly. She immediately opened her mouth to disapprove, but he silenced her with an urgent wave of his paw. Her eyes narrowed, clearly unimpressed, but she listened quietly just like everyone else until he was finished arguing his case. She could see why he wanted to aim an attack directly on LightningClan’s camp. If they succeeded, LightningClan would realize StoneClan wasn’t to be trifled with again, but what would the cost end up being?
“It’s just as you said,” Frozenrain abruptly raised her voice, “it’s a new LightningClan that isn’t afraid to spill blood over land, so imagine what they would be willing to do to us if we launched an attack on their camp. We want Sun Stones back. That’s our goal, and we shouldn’t stray from it in order to prove a point.” No senseless fighting. She lifted her eyes to Hawkstar’s once again, hoping he’d see where she was coming from. “I understand your motivation, Eagletalon, but it doesn’t seem worth the risk. We steal all of their prey, and then what? LightningClan won’t let that slide. Firestar will organize a retaliation of some kind, I’m sure of it, and what if it’s ten times worse? Are we expected to keep going back and forth until someone gives?” Frozenrain shook her head. She wanted no part in it.
The last thing she wanted was for young StoneClan lives to be claimed. Herondive and Vipertail would undoubtedly take part in those battles, and she wouldn’t be able to handle it if something bad happened to either of them. Of course, if Hawkstar wanted to lead a patrol into LightningClan’s camp, she would stand by his decision and support him, but there were a lot of factors to be considered. She wasn’t sure she would be able to forgive him, or Eagletalon, for quite some time if it went terribly, terribly wrong.

five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain Piercing blue eyes watched Hawkstar as she considered the leader’s words. Their apparent willingness to let LightningClan’s claim go unchallenged had not gone unnoticed, and it had been another hard pill to swallow. But Hailstrike was – grudgingly – getting used to that. Though the idea of letting their neighbor walk all over them again put a sour taste in her mouth, she had had to trust that Hawkstar had his reasons, so it had been with great interest that she listened when he began to divulge them. They had been as sound as she had expected, but it was the promise of retaking Sun Stones that had a small grin stretching across her lips. It’s about time.
The tom mentioned in increase in patrols, and Wolfclaw brought up the idea of group training sessions. Shifting her attention at the sound of her name, she inclined her head, casting a short glance across the way to Eagletalon. ”We can get started on that right away,” She offered resolutely, pleased with this new task, but she barely had time to consider how they might actually go about that before Eagletalon spoke up again. Undoubtedly, his idea was radical and controversial, but his words sparked within her a similar drive for revenge; in an instant of clarity, she understood perfectly the need that drove him to such an extreme conclusion. Pale blue eyes met glittering amber, and the energy she saw there had her lips curling up into another small grin. It was very easy to be swept up in the emotion that resonated in every fiber of her being, but something held her back from immediately jumping up and agreeing with her old friend.
Frozenrain hit it directly with her cool voice of reason. Turning to look at the other she-cat, the senior warrior felt as though her mind and her heart were pulling her into two different directions, and she tried to find a balance between the two. ”We need to make some show of strength,” Hailstrike pointed out, eyes straying back to Eagletalon. ”LightningClan seems to think that they can just keep taking our land, and we need to show them that we’ll fight back and are capable of defending our borders. Reclaiming Sun Stones is imperative to showing that, but is it enough?” Taking back stolen land was expected of any clan, and as such, it didn’t pull the same weight as launching an offensive.
Why? Suddenly she had an answer.
”So far everything we’ve done has been in response to something LightningClan has done,” She explained after a moment. ”We show that we’re strong enough to fight back, but refusing to truly retaliate for the wrongs against us doesn’t warn the other clans from trying something again.” Her tail flicked. ”They lose nothing by attacking us if we don’t go on the offensive ourselves. See? If we beat LightningClan back, they’ll only return to what they’ve started with; they haven’t lost anything overall. There are no overall consequences, nothing to stop them from trying again as soon as the weather is warmer.
”We need to do something.” Here she paused again, considering her next words with care. ”I don’t know if that needs to be – or should be – as drastic as attacking their camp, but I don’t think we can keep sitting back and taking it.” The prospect of not attacking LightningClan out of fear of retaliation had her pride shifting uncomfortably. LightingClan was certainly a strong clan, but so were they.

So let go, let go, jump in. Oh well, what you waiting for?
Dawnblossom listened silently to the conversation as it bounced from one cat to another. Eagletalon suggested a raid on LightningClan's camp, a show of strength on their part. The part of her that loathed and feared battle wanted her to open her mouth to protest, to be the voice of peace and reason, but the part that hated LightningClan with a righteous passion for all the wrongs they had done and continued to do her Clan kept it firmly closed. She felt a flash of guilt. She was a medicine cat, she was supposed to stand outside of Clan rivalry. And it was that guilt that kept her from opening her mouth in agreement with Eagletalon's suggestion.
Frozenrain spoke up in protest. Dawnblossom's own gaze softened slightly, for she understood completely where the other she-cat was coming from. As a mother, you never wanted your kits to be put in harm's way. She thought of Petalrain, the only kit she had left, the only part of Brackentail that remained with her. What would she do if Petalrain was part of the attack on LightningClan's camp and something happened to her? Something she couldn't fix? She stared down at her paws, fear and anger tumbling over in her mind like two warriors doing battle.
She looked up again as Hailstrike spoke up. She also seemed to be a bit torn about the action Eagletalon had suggested they take. She found herself nodding agreement to the vague middle ground Hailstrike alluded to. It seemed safer even though it wasn't a concrete idea. “I agree with Hailstrike. I am a medicine cat,” she conceded, looking around at every cat, “so I do not feel it is right, nor is it my place to offer suggestions on planning attacks. However, I agree that StoneClan should do something to show that we can do more than just sit back waiting to defend what is ours from being stolen over and over.”
Her pelt ruffled with barely concealed anger, “LightningClan has already used dishonorable tactics against us. StarClan may not have covered the moon during the Gathering Firestar schemed to take the Sun Stones, but I cannot believe they at all approved of her methods. A true warrior would never stoop so low.” Her voice had taken on a hint of a growl and she paused to allow herself to calm down, “I worry just how far she is willing to bend the Warrior Code until she snaps it like a twig and tosses it aside completely. Better that we prove our strength now, before that happens. Hopefully a few stones will end up being worth less to her than the threat of bloodshed in her own camp.”
She turned to Frozenrain with an understanding nod, “I share your fears, Frozenrain... but if we do not take the fight to them, then who is to say they will not keep pushing until they have brought it into OUR camp instead?” Her voice dropped low, “So many innocents bathed in the blood of their kin the dawn StormClan attacked our camp and chased us away. I never want another StoneClan kit or apprentice to share that experience ever again.” She looked up to meet Frozenrain's eyes, her tone resolute, “Our kits are grown, they are warriors... and warriors do what needs to be done to protect their Clan.”
