Description:
Everything about Honeypaw brings to mind tidiness. Even her white whiskers are of a neat length, with no hair out of place or a tabby marking that shouldn't be there.
With the least amount of white of her siblings, Honeypaw looks the most like their father Thrushtail, with the same brown tabby body, white chest, underbelly & throat, and warm yellow-green eyes.
Her most distinctive feature (and just one reason behind her name) is the warm brownish-ginger shading on her muzzle, as if she's poked her head into a beehive and tried to take some honeycomb out with her teeth.
Her nose is pinkish brown, with the reddest coloring on the bridge.
Honeypaw's tabby fur is comprised of a few shades of brown, darkest on the stripes and along her tail, with lighter shades underneath; her eyes seem 'highlighted' by rings of light brown fur underscoring the bright irises.
She's pretty in an understated way, and always looks the best in warm lighting.
Unfortunately, she's prone to freezing easily in the winter; her coat is not as all purpose as it looks. Though she can roll out of her nest without having to do much grooming, she can't tolerate very cold temperatures well. Which can be a problem if you live in cool, rocky dens.
Description Summary:
Small brown-and-white tabby with light yellow-green eyes and a distinctive ginger-brown muzzle.
Personality:
Oh, she doesn't have Kitekit's leadership qualities, or Cloverpaw's enthusiasm or diligence, but what she does have is a passion for life. After coming so close to dying before she'd ever gotten the chance to live, Honeypaw now tries to greet each day with hope, gratitude and a kind of quiet determination to make the most of it.
She isn't quite as good as Cloverpaw as keeping her spirits up, instead she daydreams, going down emotional or fantastical tangents as it suits her, whether that's imagining the lives of mice or picturing her brother Kitepaw waiting for her in the apprentices' den, no matter how impossible that seems.
In an attempt to live the life of two apprentices, Honeypaw balances her own wants and hobbies (scavenging, daydreaming, socializing) with the wants and hobbies of a far braver cat—such as battle-training, exploration and incredible curiosity. This can put her a little at odds with herself, and it's likely clear to Lotusrain and Thistletail that she's trying to be Honeypaw and Kitekit, but it's not something so easily stopped.
Though born in a litter of four, Kitekit and Honeykit were especially close, more like twins than two siblings out of a larger litter; his death has left a lasting impression on Honeypaw. Being still so young herself, Honeypaw is struggling to figure out who she is, and how to justify the two personalities she's trying to embody.
Despite trying her best, martial improvisation will never be a strong suit of hers, but she will excel at memory games and memorizing fighting moves, though her execution may need work. Hunting and finding things is something she is much, much better suited for, and she loves a good scavenger hunt for things like feathers or nuts or plants Dawnblossom might need.
Though trying to live up to her brother's memory, being in charge or taking the lead in any group is a sure way to make Honeypaw uncomfortable. She'd much rather let someone else do that, and be able to support their decisions or offer some advice of her own—only if its necessary, though.
Pleasant and gentle, Honeypaw tries to approach everycat as though they could be a potential friend, Clan boundaries or not. Aggression does not seem to be in her nature, though she will fight with all her strength should the need arise.
As a good luck charm, Honeypaw 'protects herself' from sickness by keeping a few leaves of catmint in her nest, finding the scent comforting. She also has a kite feather in her nest to honor her late brother's passing, and to look at it often so that she'll remember to be brave. To not let fear of the future or fear of 'what might happen' get the best of her.
History:
Honeykit was born in leaf-fall to two StoneClan warriors, Lotusfur and Thistletail; she was the last kit in a litter of three, following Kitekit, Cloverkit and Sedgekit.
Honeykit was blessed to be a part of such a tightknit, happy little family; there were other kits to play with, sure, but with more than enough friends amongst her own siblings, Honeykit saw little reason to branch out beyond the four of them.
The first few moons were peaceful, but it was not meant to last; in leafbare, Honeykit and Kitekit were desperately sick. Greencough was raging through StoneClan's camp, and there was a very real possibility that the two kits would not survive.
Isolated from the rest of her family, Honeypaw can recall those awful, blurry, brutal days in the medicine cat's den with startling clarity. She remembers the confusion, the ache in her body and the sensation of having difficulty breathing. And she remembers the horror, upon waking from a dream of StarClan, to find that Kitekit had not woken up.
Because of the sickness, they'd had to bury her brother's body immediately; she remembers being forced to wait in the medicine cat's den while the rest of her family grieved for Kitekit, sitting vigil after laying feathers over his grave to wait out the night. She remembers the kindness of the medicine cat, Ivywhisker and her helper, Dawnblossom, in such a dark time of her life.
For that reason, she is always grateful to the healers and goes out of her way to ask if they need anything—be it a herb, a fresh piece of prey, or even just a message delivered.
Though Honeypaw survived the greencough battle, the sickness left her weaker than Sedgepaw and Cloverpaw, so she was made an apprentice a full moon behind schedule. It touched her that her remaining siblings had all decided to wait a full moon as well, so they could have their apprentice ceremony together.
Assigned to Crimsonshadow, a young tom with history in TreeClan, Honeypaw's training has been slow but promising. It takes her a while to play catch up, but she tries not to beat herself up over being so behind.
Though she doesn't have her future all planned out yet, she's making progress, and that's enough for now.
History Update
Honeypaw became Honeynose a little behind schedule, owing to a mentor-switch to Ospreywing midway through her apprenticeship. She has formed a very tightknit friendship with Herondive (Hawkstar's oldest daughter) and Hazelcloud, a she-cat born with an unusual condition but a spirit bright enough to not make her health issues seem so frightening.
On top of these very dear friendships, Honeynose developed a massive crush on Herondive's brother, Vipertail. Their relationship has hinted at gaining traction, but so far nothing has stuck, and she's beginning to wonder if maybe Vipertail isn't the missing ingredient to her happily ever after, after all.
Her life has been markedly uneventful, something she's taken notice of now that senior warrior status is only a pawful of seasons away. Maybe it isn't too late to start standing out?
History Update #2
(Greenleaf Day 10, VY 7)
Vipertail was not the missing ingredient of Honey's happily ever after, it was Emberlight. A moment of serendipity drew them together, and Honeynose quickly became smitten with the warm, philosophical, gentle-hearted deputy of RainClan. It was a cross-Clan romance, and she suffered guilt from these feelings she could scarcely contain - but the thought of giving up something she had waited her entire life for... It was out of the question. But Honeynose was not a very decisive cat. Could she really leave StoneClan to be with Emberlight? Asking Emberlight to leave RainClan was unthinkable, especially when his Clan needed his guidance as their deputy.
Their love was one that ignored borders, but it hovered in this bittersweet space of separation.
In leaf-fall year 8, a Clanmate - Alderfrost - caught wind of Honeynose's dalliance with Emberlight. Without any room for misinterpretation, the malicious, possessive Alderfrost made it clear that if she continued visiting Emberlight, Alderfrost would harm her beloved beau. Paralyzed with fear, Honeynose cut off her relationship with Emberlight, terrified that Alderfrost's threats would come to fruition if she didn't. Her heart ached. She could barely eat, afraid of what her Clan would do if they found out how disloyal she'd been - afraid that Alderfrost would be able to spin the truth however he wanted.
Her behavior for the next two seasons were flighty, and her depressive behavior was worrisome for Hazelcloud and Herondive, who were supposed to know her best. It took a long time for her to pluck up the courage, but she finally confessed to Herondive and Hazelcloud what had happened, in newleaf year 8. Apart from fleeting, miserable looks at Emberlight whenever their time together coincided with the Gathering, her relationship with him was cut painfully, woefully short.
Herondive encouraged her to speak to Birdstar about Alderfrost's unacceptable behavior, but fear again won out for the she-cat whose life had never been so complicated, with stakes so high. Able to soothe her heart a little, Honeynose begged Herondive to pass along a message to Emberlight on her behalf - explaining her reasons for staying away, and pleading with the RainClan deputy to stay away until the problem with Alderfrost could be resolved.
Then Greenleaf (Day 12, VY8) arrived, and with it, came the earthquake that changed everything.
In the chaos, Honeynose was with her Clan as they hurried, breakneck, to the shelter of the Tribe. The other Clans gathered too, and Honeynose and Emberlight were once more directly confronted with each other. Somehow, in the midst of this tragic, high-stress time of change for the valley, their love was rekindled.
There was nothing Alderfrost could do, not when a new path presented itself before them.
They could join the Tribe.
It would involve throwing away her Clan life, the comfortable nights curled up in a pile with Herondive and Hazelcloud, throwing away anything familiar. But she could not deny what her heart wholly and truly wanted. With the StoneClan she knew dying when Hawkstar took his last breath, and now Birdstar and Sorrelclaw amongst the fallen, that 'home' felt like it didn't exist anymore. Emberlight was home now, and Honeynose, after a few long nights of deliberation, finally found the courage to make a decision.
For once in her life, she made a choice for herself.
Honeynose joined the Tribe as Drop of Warm Honey, a prey-hunter - with obvious ambitions to be a kit-mother - and stood with the other few former Clan cats, who had made a similar choice. Honey gave bittersweet goodbyes to Herondive and Hazelcloud, and welcomed a new world of possibility with her mate, Ember, by her side.
