63 Moons. Tom. TreeClan.
~~~~~
~~~~~
All was well within TreeClan. They were very fortunate this season, and while Newleaf was typically the season of renewal, Lionstar always felt very passionately that the summer moons were when TreeClan really bloomed back into full health.
There were kits in the nursery and his warriors were all very well fed. Lionstar could hardly find anything to complain about; yet... When he had sought out Littletimber, to invite the healer to the Gathering (knowing full well the medicine cat would decline, either with a single verbal 'no' or he simply would go right back into his den), he hadn't been able to find him.
It wasn't completely unusual for Littletimber to wander off by himself, though he had told Skyfall and Blackwing to keep an eye out for the odd little star-reader when they led the dawn patrol if he still wasn't back by morning.
With the assembled cats following at his heels, Lionstar entered StarClan's Claws, Meadowleaf at his side, Skypaw trying to keep in step with the Clan deputy. The fishy tang of RainClan was the first sense to greet him, many days having worn away the stale scents of the last Gathering.
Leaving Meadowleaf to keep the Clan on good behavior in front of others (there were quite a few new apprentices in attendance, from both Clans by the looks of it), the golden tom gathered his strength and leaped onto the boulder overlooking the meeting place.
"Timberstar," he nodded courteously to the aged she-cat, whiskers twitching as the faint, sour smell of sickness—nearly smothered out by copious amounts of herbs—clung to the elderly feline's ginger pelt. She looked even older than he'd remembered her seeing, and at once Lionstar got the sense that all was not... entirely well in RainClan.
Timberstar wouldn't bring sick cats to the Gathering, Lionstar cast a critical eye over the RainClan cats, but so far he could detect nothing unusual. Maybe it was just Timberstar. And, Lionstar knew very well, maybe it was just old age. In the event that it was an actual sickness, Lionstar kept a respectful distance.
The last thing he wanted was to bring greencough home to the nursery or the elders' den. Gazing briefly up to the stars glinting in Silverpelt, he thanked his ancestors for the rain the prey had needed to keep surviving, blessed by a prosperous Greenleaf.
The others would arrive soon. Lionstar's dense golden-black tail tapped faintly against the stone, a contemplative gesture rather than a hurried one. He was in no rush.
Time spent among trees is never wasted.
