Moondance Goddess of the Hunt, the Moon and Purity Disease's growing, it's epidemic I'm scared that there ain't a cure The world believes it and I'm going crazy I cannot take any more I'm so glad that I'll never fit in That will never be me Outcasts and girls with ambition
That's what I wanna see Disasters all around
It was the perfect time to go hunting, just before night fell, but while there was still a bit of light that brightened up the world. Pale pink and oranges stretched across the sky as the sun lowered and the moon rose. The two entities of night and day sharing the skylight together as they passed to let the other resume it's place.
Nimble paws raced forwards, and leaped to the sky as a silver tabby landed with ease onto the back of a raven, crushing it easily below her body and giving a swift nip to the neck to kill it for good. The silver huntress lifted her head, moonlit blue eyes glancing behind her as she spotted the golden tabby fur of her brother and the multicolored fur of the tortoiseshell, Hazepaw.
She had invited, which was a nicer word that she would have chosen, Sunpulse, her brother, to coming hunting with her since the two made such a great team together. As apprentices they had indeed impressed the warriors with how much prey they would bring in. It was Hazepaw, the apprentice, who had invited himself to come along, that or Sunpulse had invited him without her knowledge.
The pure she-cat was aware that Hazepaw had a severe problem with staying awake. Narcolepsy, or something of that term. He was always running around and then falling unconscious. As a kit, Moondance had found it amusing, but also worried about him severely hurting himself. As a warrior, she found it dull and annoying, because he would never be able to get anything done.
Flicking her tail, the pretty silver tabby's fur was starting to glow under the lowering sun and rising moon. The raven at her paws was still warm, and her paws itched to hunt for a bit more prey. "Sunpulse," Her tone came off as disinterest, because though she cherished her brother, he was still a tom to her and she held a strong dislike of all toms. "If we hurry, we can bring back more prey for the elders and queens."
The lithe she-cat, who was very obviously built for hunting, enjoyed providing her clan with the food they needed. In her mind, it was the job of the she-cats to do what toms had done for so long. She-cats were just as strong and able to provide and protect Nightclan, and toms were well adapted to care for the young and heal the sick.
If any cat could prove her statements and believes correct, it would be her.
Tail flickering again, she narrowed those eccentric blue eyes as she padded over to the two toms who were straggling behind. "Sunpulse, did Hazepaw fall asleep again!?" She growled lowly, narrowing her eyes as she came up upon the two Nightclanners who were out with her.
Of all the toms to come hunting with her, it had to be the one who fell asleep every couple of heartbeats.
Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back Porno Paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl Baby if I act like that, flipping my blond hair back Push up my bra like that, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

HAZEPAW 15 Moons || NightClan || Tom || Narcoleptic
It felt so good to be home again. He had missed the smell of the marshes (believe it or not), the tall blackened pines, and the cool sanctuary of NightClan's cavern; but most of all, he had missed his friends and family. Not surprising that it had been a bit of a shock to the youngster that all of his friends had moved out of the apprentices den; it was now almost completely empty, with only himself, Blackwolf's latest apprentice Nightpaw, and Palepaw, who had been injured. Gone were the days of curling up beside Darkpaw and Brightpaw, gone were the days of listening to Sunpaw's rhythmic chatting as he wished them all goodnight, of hearing Moonpaw scoff at them all because the toms outnumbered the she-cats. In those three months he'd been gone, Hazepaw's life had been static, unchanging on all fronts (except his weight), but here, NightClan had continued on without him.
Melancholic was a good word to describe what he was feeling; to make matters worse, he had overheard some of the warriors accusing him of being lazy because of how much he slept during the day. It's not my fault, it's the best way to manage my condition if I sleep a lot during the day... There was no use in explaining this; Hazepaw's inability to stay awake for long periods of time was a mystery, and it was beginning to weigh on him now that he knew it would set back his warrior ceremony. Turning a critical eye upon himself, Hazepaw had begun to wonder just what the Clan truly thought of him; it was no secret that Blackwolf thought him another useless mouth to feed. But what did his friends think of him?
When Sunpulse had invited him to go hunting, Hazepaw had leaped at the chance (not literally, but you get the idea), aching to prove himself, that he wasn't just a useless lump of fur who couldn't do anything right. He wouldn't be that kind of a burden on the Clan and his family, he would make sure they said his name fondly instead of with a roll of their eyes. The fear that Ravenstar might kick him out if he was too much of an embarrassment to the Clan was entirely real.
"Hello Moonda--" His cheerful call was drowned out by the pretty she-cat growling at Sunpulse in a none-too-quiet voice ""Sunpulse, did Hazepaw fall asleep again!?"
Hazepaw's tail drooped, and his ears flattened in a look of shame. Should he have come on this hunting trip with them? Moondance clearly didn't like him, even if, oddly enough, he'd been so delighted to see her when he'd returned. "I can go back to camp, if you guys want." Murmured the tortoiseshell, confidence splintered like a tree struck by lightning. He could always go back and talk to the elders some more, they seemed to be the only cats in the Clan who didn't mind if he stayed around and listened to their stories. Of course, the difference was that they'd earned the right to sleep around all day, and he hadn't.
I don't want to embarrass myself in front of Moondance, but I want to spend time with them too. At a stalemate, Hazepaw looked to Sunpulse for help.

Sunpulse The golden-red tom cat trotted rather pleasantly beside his tortoiseshell friend. It had been uplifting to see the glimmer of excitement in Hazepaw's eyes when he'd invited the dark-furred tom to hunt. Sunpulse was aware that there were some others who had issues with Hazepaw's... Tendencies. But there were those who had issues with Sunpulse's rhyming, so.. He didn't mind Hazepaw's company. In fact, he found it fascinating, if not a little unfortunate. That didn't mean he thought any less of the tortoiseshell tom for it. And he wouldn't stand for anyone putting the tom down. That included his sister.
His smile quickly turned to a frown at Moondance's words. He loved her to the end of the earth and back, unconditionally as any brother loved their sister. But he could do without her attitude and rather... Down-putting personality. He wasn't proud of their father's choices, but he didn't slap generalizations that all toms wanted nothing more than to use she-cats, or that all she-cats couldn't stop themselves from being used. He'd seen enough of the world in his short 14 moons to know that each character you met was unequivocally different than the last, and that with each encounter with someone new, you grew up a little more.
Amber eyes were sharp and narrowed as he stared evenly at his sister, lifting his tail to lay it over Hazepaw's shoulder. "No such thing he did with me, you should not judge so hastily. He is our friend with every right to hunt with you and I tonight." There was a twitch to his tail tip, one that showed his annoyance if you couldn't already depict it in his eyes. The fact was, they'd been burying prey they'd hunted together. Hazepaw had been in charge of the actual catch, while Sunpulse drew them out of their hiding places. So what he said next wasn't exactly a lie.
"Prey he caught, two in a row, while I still have nothing to show. If you so wish to show disdain, turn to me and then complain. But of him do shut your maw, or you will break my final straw."

Of all the things that her brother could have spat towards her, it had to be an insult in which she wasn't even attempting to be the slightest bit of rude in the first place. Sure, she may have come across as a little harsh, or sharp of tongue, but she wasn't cold of heart to hate on a cat who couldn't help the problem he had.
It wasn't like Hazepaw had asked to be born the way he had been. And it wasn't in Moondance's nature to be outstandingly rude because of this poor condition. But the fact that he brother hadn't even thought of that, and just jumped down her throat is what almost set her off.
Her temper slightly flared, but she figured that getting mad at her brother while they were trying to hunt would only scare away what little prey might be out at the moment. Him and his loving nature towards others, despite the fact that she was his sister. Sunpulse should have known. Should have realized that despite that tone of hers, she wasn't attacking Hazepaw, nor his problem of sleeping.
No matter how annoying it could have been.
"If you would have let me finished." She held back a hiss, blue eyes blazing with a cold fire as the silver tabby turned from Sunpulse's more fire-colored pelt towards Hazepaw. Her eyes ran over his tortoiseshell colored pelt before she continued to speak.
"I was going to ask, if you were okay, should you had fallen asleep while hunting." She, of course, was telling the truth, but was also trying her best to come across as 'nice' to the tom. Which, knowing her nature and forced personality, was not an easy thing to do. But with her feeling sorry for Hazepaw, it was a bit easier than being nice to most toms.
"Also." Step two of being nice, and also kicking it to her brother, a completment. "Good job at catching some prey. I'm sure Ghostlight will enjoy a piece of fresh-kill." Sunpulse's old mentor, and a she-cat in which Moondance had looked up too, and who had recently given birth to Blackwolf's kits. Though Moondance was not fond of Ghostlight's mate, nor the fact that Ghostlight had taken one and then bore his kits, she still found that Ghostlight was her role model when it came to attitude and personality towards most toms. But, unlike Ghostlight's lack of she-cat friends, Moondance was prepared to gather a following of she-cats who thought like her.
Despite Sunpulse's dislike for how Moondance felt of toms, she found it rather inspiring. What better way to serve your clan, than to teach she-cats how to better themselves and teach themselves to live without the constant drabble of toms.
"Come on then, we still have time to catch some more prey before returning to camp." She said in her pretty voice, flicking her tail past her brother before turning and padding off, letting the rising moonlight bask her silver pelt.

HAZEPAW 15 Moons || NightClan || Tom || Narcoleptic
The dread that had been coiling up in his belly like a snake evaporated, at Sunpulse rising to his defense and Moondance's quick but pointed explanation that she hadn't been trying to insult him. She was going to ask if I was okay? Underneath the tortoiseshell fur, Hazepaw's skin warmed up, turning a red no-cat could see at the possibility that one of his oldest friends had been concerned about him. It was... weird, that he was getting so worked up over it - his heart had even begun an irregular, fast beat when she'd looked at him with those bright blue eyes of hers - after all, they'd been friends for so long, you'd think he'd be used to her by now.
"Thanks, Sunpulse, for defending me. And thanks for being worried about me Moondance, but I'm actually okay today." Well, he'd fallen asleep once when he'd been waiting for Sunpulse to chase a frog towards him, but there was no point in mentioning that. Tail raising like a splotched banner into the air, Hazepaw felt his spirits start to tentatively renew themselves, all of his apprehensions about coming with them beginning to seem like silliness, nothing more. Of course she'd still want him around, right? They were friends, even with her rather... aggressive stance towards feminism that gave the toms of NightClan little chance of ever getting into her good graces, it was with a bit of naivety that Hazepaw sincerely hoped that wouldn't impact their friendship any. He would always be fond of her company, no matter how much she bristled at him just because he was a tom.
Maybe he and Sunpulse could show her that they weren't so bad? Well, if he really thought about it - if Moondance didn't like them now, after having met a few good ones and realized they weren't all a bunch of playboys, then she probably wouldn't ever change her mind. Didn't hurt him any to try, though. Hazepaw couldn't locate the reason behind his desire to alter her opinion, he just knew he felt like it was something he could actually do something about. "Let's get started, you two!" Sharing a smile with Sunpulse, at Moondance's next words he began to trot with the two littermates, intending to keep up. He was still going to try very hard not to be a burden to the group; the silvery she-cat leading them had been an exemplary hunter in their apprentice days, and the drowsy tom had no doubt in his mind that she had only improved while he'd been gone.
He didn't want to embarrass himself by hunting poorly. With that now on his brain, Hazepaw thought best how to question Sunpulse on hunting strategies; would Sunpulse keep chasing the prey towards him or would he pair up with his sister and leave Hazepaw to devise his own methods? Thinking back to his difficulties hunting without Sunpulse, he resisted the urge to wince. It was no secret that Moondance and Sunpulse had their own tag-team style of catching prey, and Hazepaw was both very curious to see it in action as well as hoping Sunpulse would be a part of his team instead.
It's not as if Moondance needs the help, he reassured himself. She was great at this sort of thing.

Sunpulse He held her gaze, ice cold versus blazing fire, and never flinched. He watched her closely as her blue-eyed gaze shifted focus from him to Hazepaw. Behind him, his tail curled upon itself, remaining tightly coiled for a good few seconds before relaxing again. He remained silent from where he stood beside his friend. He knew that sometimes he could get a little too defensive, a little too quickly. It was said his sister had a temper, but really he did too. It was simply a different trigger for him. He could sit there and listen to you tear into him for hours on end without more than a couple blinks. But the moment you turned on one of his friends, all bets were off.
With a glance towards his closest friend, he let his breath slip from his lungs and forced the tension from his shoulders. He watched as Hazepaw happily trotted after Moondance, who'd turned to lead the way again. He considered his friend for another moment, a seedling of worry budding in his chest. He'd just noticed a strange sort of behaviour from Hazepaw... Surely he knew of Moondance's stance on toms... What was he thinking..
He frowned softly, his mind shifting to an apprentice by the name of Nightpaw. Just the thought of her made his heart skip a beat from within his chest. Perhaps Hazepaw had no control over it. He certainly hadn't appeared to have a choice. With a soft sigh a gentle shake of his head, he pushed his lean frame forward, easily catching up to Hazepaw. Purring softly at Hazepaw's enthusiasm, he bobbed his head in agreement. "One and one, we're two tonight, let's work together and stir a fight. As a team, let us compete, and see if Moondance we might defeat. Go and hide and take your spot, and let us see what might be caught."
With a nudge to Hazepaw's shoulder, the red tabby turned to go. Before disappearing into the woods, he glanced to his sister and offered her a smile laced with a challenge. Now he just had to go and find prey to win the challenge he'd just issued.
