Name: Heronkit -> Heronpaw - Herondive
Age: 15 moons
Gender: She-cat
Clan: StoneClan
Rank: Warrior
Picture: Kit 1 - Kit 2 - Apprentice 1 - Apprentice 2 - Adult 1 - Adult 2 - Adult 3 - Adult 4
Description: As a kit, Herondive was never seen as overly large, or particularly tiny. Her body structure did seem to hint towards an above-average height. She grew slightly on the path to apprenticeship, but it was obvious she didn't take much of her body structure from her father. Her shoulders were perhaps a little more defined than other apprentices her age, but her overall body type could be encompassed by the word lithe. The thick, soft fur she inherited from her mother does lend to her appearance, perhaps making her seem larger than she really is. She is taller than the average she-cat, and her strongest muscles rest in her back legs.
Like many a StoneClan cat, she has a knack for jumping. As an apprentice, however, Herondive took it one paw step further. She began to practice her leaps on her own time, testing how high she could jump, from what surfaces she could jump, and how she might use all this to her advantage. Developing a particularly movement-oriented battle style, Herondive developed a powerful set of hind legs, perfect for fast forward strikes and for leaping up into the air. Her skill set even lent a paw toward her warrior name; Herondive, for the way she leaps up and dives down onto the backs of her enemies in the heat of battle.
Her coat color is a best described as a fusion of her parents. As a kit, it was predominantly a shade of white like her mother's white parts. As she aged, the white began giving way to various darker patches. These darker spots are coloured similarly to her father's sandy-brown colouring, even so far as being decorated with soft hints of tabby stripes. The cream is most prominent on her face, covering both her eyes and her rounded, triangular ears. On her face, the cream is broken up by white fur along her cheeks, and the bridge of her muzzle. A soft pink nose accents Herondive's pale fur. Her haunches lean more toward cream now that she is a warrior, the white remaining mostly along her chest fur, and her four paws.
The closest connection she shares with her mother, Frozenrain, is the color of her eyes. They are a beautiful blue that seem to reflect the color of the sky, and shone with her emotions as a kit. Though these emotions mainly consisted of her unconditional love for her parents. As she aged, they became less expressive, almost dull, though the apparent dimness had nothing to do with changing color. They dimmed with her changing perspective of the world.
Description Summary: Lithe, cream and white she-cat with bright blue eyes.
Personality: The easiest way to describe Herondive used to be "a pawful". Her highly curious nature had her constantly asking questions which generally landed her in one of two scenarios. Either she asked so many questions and pushed so much that she ended up face to face with a rather... Annoyed individual, or she found herself in a situation that landed her in trouble. More than once, she'd been caught wandering out of the nursery as a kit, and had even tried leaving camp. She'd probably been the cause of more than one gray fur on her father's pelt, that's for sure. She could be loud, voicing whatever concern she might have on her mind. She'd been known to say something that came off as an insult, though she certainly didn't mean it that way. She just didn't believe in hiding behind false words.
During her apprenticeship, unfolding events with LightnightClan, and the hanging stories surround StoneClan's exile at the paws of StormClan had her naive outlook on life changing. Her curiosity and sense of adventure was suddenly muzzled, and she began retreating into herself, the hate writhing within her for the Clan that seemed determined on destroying hers. Though her mentor, Eagletalon stopped her from completely enclosing herself in a numb, protective shield, she still hasn't reverted back to her kit personality. Some might argue that she is simply more mature now. Which would not necessarily be a lie. She does still fine herself wondering at the world; curiosity is not something easily crushed, after all. However, she has dedicated her life to her Clan now, and only her Clan. It would be a difficult task, talking her into lifting even a claw for a cat of another Clan.
Even as a kit, her fierce loyalty was evident in the way she defended those she cared for. The fierce loyalty has only grown as she has, encompassing her immediate family, her mentor and 'uncle' Eagletalon, and her close friends Honeypaw and Hazelpaw. Her friendships didn't start until after her apprenticeship. Most kits found her outgoing curiosity to be either frightening or annoying, and gave her a wide berth. She has developed a better understanding of appropriate interaction, but might still struggle to make anymore good friends. Her new-found, guarded nature and protective instincts might be off-putting to other Clan members. She means well, her aim solely to defend her Clan, even at the cost of her life; just like she promised in her warrior ceremony.
Much of what Herondive does has one goal: to make her family proud. It began when she was injured as an apprentice, and consequently held back. Forced to watch her brother be named a warrior before her, she vowed to be better, to be stronger. As kits, she had been the strong one, not Vipertail. Yet, he stood there, a warrior in his turn while she was still stuck in the apprentice den. Determined to prove to her father, her mother, and her mentor that she could and would be a powerful warrior, she set herself to work; both on her physical self, and on helping the Clan. Though she had now earned her warrior name, she still strives to see that look of pride her in parents' eyes. It is even more of a challenge now that she's been named a warrior. For this reason, it isn't uncommon for Herondive to exhaust herself. She is constantly working for others, and sometimes forget to work for herself.
Herondive is not immune to emotion. Irritation can get the best of her, as can fear or anger. She reacts to intense bouts of emotion with a fire all her own. Her eyes glow with a ferocity unusual for the guarded she-cat, and she will seek to butt heads with whatever might be challenging her, where that opponent be tangible or simply emotional.
History: Born to the StoneClan leader Hawkstar and his mate Frozenrain, Heronkit was one half to the very first litter of both her parents. She shared her nest in the nursery with her brother, Viperkit. Whereas her brother's name was chosen by her father, Heronkit was named by her mother, a sort of... Honorarium to the big tom who fathered her two beautiful kits. Admittedly, Heronkit had caused her fair share of trouble, trouble which her brother had always seemed to have to drag her out of. She was also known for spending all the time she could listening to others speak of adventures they'd had, or things they've done.
She thought it would never come. She was convinced she'd be trapped in the nursery forever. But soon enough, that call rang out from her father's mouth. It was time for her to leave the nursery and move on to the next exciting step of her life: apprenticeship. She quite nearly vibrated in place as Frozenrain tried to groom her plush fur flat, so she could look her best. Heronkit didn't care what she looked like at the time; she just wanted her new name, and to know who her mentor was going to be! Of course, when her father called her forward in front of the entire Clan, she was glad that her mother had taken the time to groom her. Her chest was puffed up proudly the whole time as she listened intently to her father's words. Soon enough, she was Heronpaw. Her mentor? Eagletalon. She was convinced she had the best mentor in all of StoneClan! Save, of course, for her father.
As far as mentors went, Eagletalon did not disappoint her in the first few moons. He taught her to leap after birds, as though it were a game. He kept her interested, and kept her adventurous nature afloat, and she loved him all the more for it. At approximately 9 moons, however, Heronpaw badly twisted a forepaw and jarred her shoulder, which had her confined to the medicine cat den for what felt like an eternity. The only thing that kept her there? The looming thought that she might never be able to become a warrior if she didn't allow herself to heal. Healing was slow, but she did make it eventually. And Eagletalon was with her every paw step of the way. He guided her, choosing small exercises for her to do, to rebuild strength in the paw and shoulder she had damaged.
One such lesson included sliding around the frozen Sky Springs to learn how to use terrain to your advantage and become more familiar with your own body. It was a perfect reintroduction to training, and a perfect lesson to make her feel as though she were still training while Eagletalon monitored her progress. She was even befriending some of the newer apprentices, chatting with two she-cats in particular; Honeypaw and Hazelpaw. About half way through her twelfth moon, things began changing. And Heronpaw began changing with them.
First, she witnessed LightningClan make an aggressive move aimed at claiming some of StoneClan's territory. It confused her, and hurt her to see a Clan leader seem so... Careless. A dark cloud hung over Heronpaw's head following the incident, one that would only grow darker when she witnessed her brother earn his warrior name without her. It might have seemed like petty jealousy to some, but Heronpaw couldn't deny that it hurt. She did her best to continue interacting with her friends, but it was obvious that there was something... Not quite right about Heronpaw.
Of course she wouldn't admit that to her mentor or her parents; she didn't want them to think less of her for it. Instead, she put all she had into her training. Even when Eagletalon didn't call for her in the morning, she would practice, focusing on developing her leaps. She even began thinking on how she could apply these leaps in practical situations. With time, she grew stronger, but the cloud din't necessarily dissipate. It festered in her, until eventually, her mentor couldn't ignore it any longer. In an organized sparring match Heronpaw found herself face to face with her brother, Vipertail. Her extra training sessions would come to use in this particular sparring match, just as the sparring match would serve as a gateway to allow Eagletalon to try and find out just what was hanging over his apprentice.
And it did help. It didn't magically fix it all, but it helped her begin to heal. And she figured that was a pretty good start. She vowed to spend more time with her friends, and to try and shake the jealous feeling that liked to creep up on her when her brother was mentioned; after all, it wasn't his fault, and deep down she loved him. Time spent with friends also helped in her healing process. Despite her hatred of LightningClan, which had only been further fuelled by their siege on the night of a Gathering, she would not be controlled by the dark thoughts. Because she had friends, because she had family.
On a particular Greenleaf day in her fifteenth moon, she and her friend Honeypaw were sent out on a hunting patrol by her mentor, Eagletalon. Little did the two she-cats know, this was also Heronpaw's hunting assessment. Deciding hunting was best done separately, the two friends parted ways and set on their tasks. After catching a mouse and a lizard, a call of alarm had her running back to her friend, just in time to see a hawk diving at her. Without hesitation, Heronpaw leapt at the hawk, using whatever leverage she could find to bring it down. Heartbeats stretched on as she wrestled the aggravated bird, until it eventually lay dead at her paws. She'd done it, she'd saved her friend.
Three warriors deemed her battle with the hawk a success, and Hawkstar was given the go ahead. Her day had begun rather normally; she'd spent time with Honeypaw and another apprentice in the apprentice den. Eventually, her mother had called for her, and she grudgingly allowed the older she-cat to groom her fur, figuring it was in response to her run in with the hawk the day before. And then the call went up, her father's powerful voice pulling the Clan together. Feeling as though her heart were about to beat out of her best, she finally was granted her warrior name; Heronpaw became Herondive before StoneClan and StarClan alike.
