25 Moons | TreeClan | She-Cat | Warrior
Islands, diamonds, trips around the world,
“What would you do, Daringheart, if you had the immunity of a Medicine Cat and could go wherever you pleased?”
A highly feminine, naturally inviting crooning rose over the sound of a grumbling brook, the water splashing over wide flat stones, a collection of smaller pebbles lining the bottom of one of TreeClan's water sources. Bushy tail held high to avoid the brook, Appleshade gingerly pawed the pebbles around this way and that, apparently searching for something – an expert eye cast over what appeared to be meager pickings, a dramatic sigh parting pale-tinted jaws.
If only they were Medicine Cats, then her never-ending search for lovely things could continue unhindered by pesky things like borders and overly aggressive warriors on patrol.
”I don't suppose we could sneak over to RainClan and check their river for stones, could we?” She mewed, highly doubtful that the deputy of TreeClan would not only allow, but willing participate in something so asinine as that. It was a ridiculous request, but one Appleshade couldn't stop herself from asking. With a love for beauty that almost rivaled her love for the Clan, the young, incredibly flirtatious warrior had a knack for filling up her day with the most trivial of things – like now, for instance, where she seemed perfectly happy devoting her sunhigh to the search of pretty little trinkets to fill her nest with.
Shiny pebbles, iridescent feathers, sweet smelling flowers – beauty was in the eye of the beholder, and this particular beholder wasn't going to rest until she found what she was looking for.

Daringheart was of course enjoying her time with Appleshade; their conversations seemed to always be decently interesting at the least. Even now as the feminine she-cat busied herself pushing around stones and trying to stay dry she was asking thought provoking questions, what if Daringheart was a medicine cat? That wasn’t exactly the question but she quickly decided that being Treeclan’s deputy suited her much better. “If I could go wherever I wanted…” She said slowly her thinking about her answer apparent in her tone, “I would go… where I normally go now.” She said simply before giving Appleshade a hard stare, “I mean look who you are talking to, when have borders ever stopped me?” She replied confidently knowing it to be true, however it almost blew up in her face as the other she-cat asked if they could sneak into Rainclan territory to find her some more stuff. For a moment Daringheart so badly wanted to say yes, it was like hunting for treasure and that was so her style. However she couldn’t help but answer a moment later, “Sorry I can’t let you do that, I’m a total hypocrite but as Treeclan deputy I have to see that you behave. Or Lionstar will jump down my throat and I don’t like it when he does that most of the time.”

Appleshade immediately switched tones, using the same one she employed whenever she was talking to a particularly resistent or awkward tom, trying to coax them into a conversation on the grounds that it wouldn't kill them, her habit of toeing the line of the warrior code coming back up to the surface. "Awwww c'mon Daringheart~ It won't be for very long. I'll be quick!"
Face shining, her eyes gleamed with all the hope she could muster just thinking about the precious sparklies, shimmering shells and aesthetically pleasing tokens of nature that were just asking to be discovered. And then reality hit her, the she-cat's expression evening into something similar to sulk. "Well I suppose you're right, we don't want to give that grumpy ol' furball a reason to get upset."
Appleshade's words began to slow as she reached the end of that sentence, her thoughts taken over by an idea that was perhaps better than her original - though not by standards of the code - and she gave her companion a trouble-making sort of smile. "Say Daring~ I have an idea~ How about we search NightClan's territory instead?" Climbing up out of the brook, Appleshade shook out one dainty paw, flinging droplets as far away from herself as she dared without looking ungraceful. "They live in a swamp, they have no eye for beauty -" her nose wrinkled "- they won't appreciate anything I take, if they even notice!"
Oh she has to say yes now. That was too good an opportunity. It would be a very quiet, very subtle jab at NightClan; they would stay along the edges of the border, just further enough inside NightClan territory to possibly find something good, but close enough to their own section of the forest to make escaping seem foolproof.
How could Daringheart resist?

Daringheart was pleased that Appleshade had seen things her way; she didn’t want to have to fight off the urge in Appleshade, and herself for that matter, to go find treasure. However that wouldn’t be the end of it, it never was it seemed for a deputy, as Appleshade hatched a new plan. “Nightclan… Seriously?” She asked feeling more and more like she needed to have a cat stay with the little hoarder at all times to make sure she stayed out of the other clan’s territory. “That is an even worse idea then the last, I know they deserve us tromping around in their territory for all the time they’ve spent in ours… but risking a battle over some pretty little trinkets for your nest?” She meowed hoping Appleshade would understand what she was suggesting, “You know Nightclan… it wouldn’t matter why you were there! A battle would ensue with them thinking it was completely justified.”

25 Moons | TreeClan | She-Cat | Warrior
Islands, diamonds, trips around the world,
Appleshade's luxurious tail drooped, feathery plume dropping to the ground in a look of utter dejection, her head slightly lowered. "Awwwww." Despite her plans repeatedly foiled and Daringheart's inner call to adventure repeatedly stifled, Appleshade was determined to come home with at least something that sparkled or glittered or glowed when held up to the light; if she wasn't allowed to break the rules, then she'd just have to work with what she had!
Emotionally picking herself back up, the she-cat's tail resumed it's high position, curling at the tip in a sign of contentment - it wasn't as though she couldn't see the sense in her good friend's words, it was that she wasn't willing to really listen to the good sense in her friend's words. But she would behave herself, if not for the deputy then at least for TreeClan's reputation. Though if they happened to pass by the border and a NightClan tom could be persuaded to bring them something pretty, then how could Daringheart possibly raise any alarms? And how could that tom resist? Two stunning creatures such as themselves were not to be ignored.
It would be a win-win, though highly unlikely to happen.
"Will you at least help me collect some feathers? The nests are quite high, so I hope you don't mind a bit of climbing." This was one of the tasks Appleshade had a habit of skipping over, simply opting to wait until any stray feathers drifted down - but a bluejay had nested in a tree not far from here, and the pretty sorrel feline had grown rather covetous of the blue, black and white banded feathers it sported.
It was about that time that the chicks would be old enough to fly, so the nest would likely be empty - the hardest part would be reaching it.

Daringheart was glad that Appleshade had stopped trying to convince her that they needed to sneak into the other clans territory’s so she could leave with her precious shiny objects. At least she figured that was what was happening as a dejected noise made its way from the younger she-cats maw, Daringheart did hate to disappoint her especially when all she wanted was an adventure and some loot. The fluffy deputy would have to get over it though because she was just that, a deputy, and now she had responsibilities and an example to set for the rest of Treeclan. Then something she could do was asked of her by Appleshade and she responded quickly, “Of course I can do that, and as the cat Lionstar sent to train the apprentices on tree climbing I figure I can get the feathers you need no problem!” She started to look up at the tree tops swiveling her head searching for abandoned nests, “Do you have a tree in mind already?” She figured the she-cat had already found what she was looking for but her dainty demeanor had caused her to seek another to do her ‘dirty work’.

Islands, diamonds, trips around the world,
"Yes I do, actually~" she chirped, bubbly now that Daringheart was willing to help her with a slightly less mousebrained scheme. "Just...please don't fall and break your neck. That'd be terrible." Mentally wincing at the thought, the pretty feline weaved a graceful path through the brambles and the parts of the forest that were still semi-burnt, wrinkling her nose at the smell of soot though plunging forward bravely, trying not to focus on the soot that was likely coating her paws with each step.
Finally arriving at a tall sycamore tree, Appleshade leaned her weight back onto her hind legs, sittingg up very much like a groundhog - though a lot prettier, mind you - gesturing with a small paw to a nest high up above them. "See? Right up There!"
The height made her shiver beneath every hair of her properly groomed, always maintained sorrel-silver fur. In Appleshade's defense, the young warrior wasn't at all unwilling to go the extra mile in order to get what she wanted - she was willing to go right into NightClan territory after all, with the full intention of getting out alive and relatively unscathed - it was just that there were times when something else rivaled her covetous behavior.
Fear.
Appleshade was afraid of heights.
She could keep her calm on the lower branches, but when everything got noticeably smaller, then she would freeze, terrified beyond all reason and unwilling to come down to the point that she would have to be half-carried, half-dragged down by someone much brawnier and more skilled than she. Most accused her of it all being a ploy to get attention of the male persuasion - but one look into those panicked eyes was enough to quell their suspicions outright.

Daringhearts assumptions were confirmed and soon she was being lead into a slightly more… crispy part of the forest. As they cut their little path through the blackened, soot covered woods Appleshade made and incredibly awfully timed comment about Daringheart falling and snapping her neck which the deputy found completely unnecessary. “I am one of the best climbers the forest has ever seen, now however you have jinxed me and I am going to fall and die. Hope you’re happy.” She skulked as she was shown the tree which she would be climbing. “Well better get climbing; I’d hate to be late to my own vigil.” She joked as she leapt at the tree and used her strong leg muscles and sharp claws to pull herself up the trunk towards Appleshade’s prize. It didn’t take her long and she was glad the tree wasn’t burnt to a crisp in the fire, those trees would tend to crumble quicker then she could climb and would cause her to plummet in an ungraceful way. Pulling herself up onto the branch with the other she-cats’ nest she called down, “Would you like me to just push the nest off the branch so you can take what you want?”

The idea that she'd just jinxed her Clan deputy into falling to her death made Appleshade's stomach tighten and lurch unpleasantly, the pretty feline releasing an uneasy laugh, "oh you're such a kidder, Daringheart," but the aptly named warrioress was already scaling the tree with all the agility of a squirrel. It was easy to step back and admire Daringheart's courage, Appleshade feeling her stomach start to unknot now that the mottled feline had reached the nest; she shook her head at the idea of knocking it down.
Though she would much rather be up there looking over it personally, a fear of heights was working against her, and she trusted Daringheart's ability to discern nice quality things from bad quality things, and would let the deputy pick from there. "No, just grab what you can! It should mostly just be bluejay feathers!" Oh Daring, be careful.
Flashes of the deputy's heartwrenching moment during the forest fire flitted across Appleshade's memory, and she kneaded her paws into the ground with unease, careful to keep her face controlled in a look of calm, though anxious energy had continued to build up since Daringheart had first taken up the task.
Of course, for such an adventurous young she-cat, if she had made it this far without doing severe damage to herself, then she could make it down a fire-seared tree without too much trouble. Appleshade had an incredible amount of faith in her.

Daringheart was told she had free reign to pick what she liked, at least that’s what she heard. For some reason anything less then specific orders that left no wiggle room for interpretation meant she could do whatever she pleased, and she was happy for that. So she began to pick the finer feathers that were still whole without rips and tears in the fletching, after deciding a feather was a keeper she would slide it into her thick fur carefully which would hold onto it well enough for a quick trip to the ground. She did this many times before she found herself full and picked out the last few good feathers with her mouth and began to slide back down the tree tail end first. She left deep scratch marks and figured the whole ordeal would go off without a hitch until she hit a rather burnt patch about five tail lengths off the ground. The bark broke away under he paws and she was sent plummeting down to the hard ground, she landed back first as her back paws rolled over her head and she finished on her stomach.

Islands, diamonds, trips around the world,
The resemblance to a fledgling bluejay was surprisingly accurate, even the awkward landing from Daringheart's fall that sent some of the feathers fluttering up to descend a few heartbeats later, Appleshade scampering over to meet her. "Are you alright? Did you break anything?" Gingerly nosing the she-cat, her voice had become high with concern, sweeping plume carried low to the ground, feathers momentarily forgotten over Daringheart's safety.
Okay so it hadn't been too terrible a fall - but for a feline with a fear of heights, that cracking sound from the bough would likely reoccur in her nightmares later on, along with that awful plummeting of her stomach like a stone after witnessing the Clan deputy tumble down to earth. Somehow, amidst her concern for bodily injury, Appleshade had taken notice of her friend's coat, and vowed to groom it later – she was unaware of Daringheart's actual maintenance practices, but Appleshade had a feeling it wasn't quite as in depth as her own.
And after she'd gone all the way up to fetch her those silly little feathers for her silly little nest, grooming Daringheart until she shined was the least she could do. Oh StarClan, never let me be mousebrained enough to ask for something like this again. Appleshade felt like inventing a new foraging rule; if it was on the ground then it was free for the taking. If they had to trick a fox, climb a tree or stick their head in a badger set to get it, then it just wasn't worth the risk.

The wind was knocked out of the treeclan deputy when she made contact with the ground, so looking up at Appleshade with wide eyes she sputtered and opened and closed her mouth trying to suck in a breath of air. She looked very much like a fish out of water but was in fact just a cat out of a tree, after a few seconds she managed to suck in a huge labored breath. Coughing out a response to Appleshades worried mews “I told you...” She had to stop there to wheeze and cough a few more times, “that you jinxed me…” She then plopped her head back down on the earth and closed her eyes letting the world pass her by until she was fit enough to stand again. This wouldn’t take too long, and when she was ready she rolled onto her paws and mewed and apology to her companion, “I hope I didn’t mangle any of your feathers…”

"I'm just glad you didn't mangle any limbs," Appleshade pressed her nose into Daringheart's fur, as if needed the physical reassurance that her friend was in fact in one piece. Now that she was certain the dappled feline in front of her was more or less winded than anything else, Appleshade could turn her attention to the feathers Daringheart had managed to acquire;
Such a beautiful shade of blue.
The jay's feathers were an exquisite shade of blue that seemed to lighten towards the edges, the fringe-like end part a solid white, with the distinctive black markings that separated it from the feathers of any other blue-hued bird by a long shot. Thoroughly pleased with Daring's handiwork, the she-cat's mind was already churning with potential ways to pay her back, the first and foremost being adding a little spice to Daringheart's life, if she could manage it. While a section of the pretty sorrel feline's brain was cooking up schemes, the other was already on to the next glittering thing, already dreaming of the possibility of finding some shiny river stones and even more feathers.
Though a small portion of her was conscious of the fact that they should probably at least try to catch a little something for TreeClan...

“It wasn’t that long of a fall.” Daringheart said simply as she rolled onto her paws, she was at least glad Appleshade seemed to be pleased with her handiwork. She gauged her level of satisfaction on the lack of negative comments she received about the feathers, as there were none. This could have been wishful thinking however, she could have just been concerned or felt bad about Daringheart having fallen and didn’t want to say anything because of it. So giving herself a quick shake and a few licks to her chest fur out of embarrassment, she of all cats should not have fallen, and she knew that she wouldn’t be able to take care of her totally screwed up pelt herself. That was a matter for another time however as she still had plenty of work to do, at least she felt like there was still more to do. “I assume this isn’t all you want, do you have any more ideas for collecting treasures?”

"Actually I do," she mewed, recalling something she'd seen yesterday while out hunting but hadn't been able to retrieve at the time. "It's not for my nest, and I don't know if it's still usable right now, but there's a hive that fell down near the great maple. The bees had already left." I just hope a skunk or a badger or something hasn't found it and eaten most of the honey. "Maybe Littletimber can use it for sore throats?"
Appleshade had forgotten to alert the unusually silent healing tom of the discovered honeycomb earlier in the day, but armed with the deputy's fearlessness and her own determination to get what she set her mind on, Appleshade didn't mind doing a bit of collecting for their mysterious medicine cat. "Fortunately this type of treasure should already be on the ground, though we may have to chase off an animal or two." Intending to lead the way, Appleshade kept her friend within her sights, checking over her back to make sure Daringheart hadn't suffered any nasty side-effects from her fall - growing more confident that things were just fine the further into TreeClan territory they went.
