Golden eyes glanced toward the sky, where small pinpricks of light stood out against the gathering blackness with a clarity only attributed with nights in the dead of leaf-bare. It was time.

With Deadstar and Amberblaze gone - just like that - and their medicine cat as temporary leader of RainClan, normal clan life had seemed like a thing of the past. Though Swanfeather was a perfectly capable she-cat, the distinct sense of leadership that a clan needed had been missing; she was, after all, a temporary leader in the time that it had taken StarClan to get their act together, and having to keep the whole clan healthy was a completely different job, which required just as much energy and time. So he did not blame her and decided to rid his mind of these thoughts; it was time to look forward, not to linger in the past. The semblance of normal clan life had begun to shift into reality, and as long, golden legs carried him toward the distinctive stone in the middle of camp, he could not ignore the pride that he felt at his clan's resiliance.

Even though his paws had just come into contact with the surface of the stone, the new leader could already feel gazes directed his way. His pelt prickled slightly with the sensation of being watched, and he ignored it in favor of raising his head and calling out, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath River Stone for a clan meeting." As he gazed around the familiar scene, the tom noted that perhaps the call had been unnecessary; the sight of him leaping onto River Stone seemed to have summoned most of the clan in itself. He could almost feel the anticipation and energy, for surely any intelligent cat - and RainClan was full of them - would have guessed his intentions by now. The question was: who?

"As I am sure you have guessed, it is time to appoint RainClan's deputy." His voice was not forceful, yet it demanded complete attention and respect from every one of the listening cats. A jolt of kit-like excitement ran through him, though his countenance remained the same. "I say these words before StarClan, that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice." They were recovering, and they would soon regain the position that they deserved as the top clan. He let his gaze travel over the warriros has he spoke, feeling the resolve behind his decision only strengthen as he noticed the tom who would become RainClan's next deputy."The new deputy of RainClan will be Razorfang!"

Jaws parting in a large yawn, she got to her paws and ambled over to the River Stone. She guessed that the RainClan leader was going to announce the new deputy. Honeygaze herself had her suspicions on who was to be chosen, but she was still just as clueless as anybody else. Settling herself comfortably, at least as much as she could on the cold, snow-covered ground, beneath the River Stone. Her amber gaze hovered on Sandstar, then swept around the camp briefly. Blinking, she listened as he began to speak. "As I am sure you have guessed, it is time to appoint RainClan's deputy." Honeygaze tilted her head to one side, honey-amber gaze alert and focused on her leader. Fluffing up her golden fur, she waited patiently for his next words. "I say these words before StarClan, that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of RainClan will be Razorfang!" Honeygaze smiled. Sandstar had made a good choice. "Razorfang! Razorfang! Razorfang!" Honeygaze chanted, honey-amber eyes glowing. Swivelling round, her gaze scoured the gathered cats for the newly appointed deputy, but he was nowhere to be seen. She frowned briefly, but the smile soon returned to her face. "The new deputy of RainClan will be Razorfang!"

Dark ruddy ears pricked forward and then swiveled at the sound of Sandstar's already distinctive voice, emerald green eyes sparking into life upon recognition of the name that was called. Russetpaw's mouth fell open, and the first emotion to hit him was pride; it was kind of funny to think that a cat he wasn't sure if he hated as a rival or loved as someone to look up to could inspire such a reaction out of him. Spinning around on his heels, Russetpaw's whiskers twitched with warmth as he called out his mentor's name, eyes locking with the hazel and black tom.
"Razorfang! Razorfang! Razorfang!"

The warrior technically hadn't accepted the position just yet, but Russetpaw knew in his heart of hearts that Razorfang would've had to be crazy not to accept. He was a good candidate for the job; a bit too cold for some people, but Russetpaw was thinking in terms of how the other Clans would view him. He was almost a warrior, and as such he'd developed a certain focus for politics, and he knew that with the death of Amberblaze and Deadstar hanging over the heads of his Clan like a storm cloud, Russetpaw was extremely grateful that RainClan's new leader, Sandstar, had chosen such a capable deputy.

Fighting through the sea of cats to reach Razorfang before he went up there, Russetpaw dipped his head respectfully, purring against the roar of voices to add his own to the mix; "Congratulations, Razorfang. You'd better be a great deputy - I've gotta have someone to look up to, y'know." Those words came out encouraging and humorous, his teasing threat nearly the exact opposite of any actual hostility towards the tom, and Russetpaw knew Razorfang was smart enough to tell the difference. Quietly and not-so-subtly telling Razorfang that he was more or less becoming Russetpaw's idol as well as his mentor, the ruddy tom gave his teacher the space he needed, watching as he joined the ranks of RainClan's hierarchy.


He didn't notice the shock and anger that blazed in the eyes of the silver she-cat sitting just a few steps behind him...

Instinctively, his large head raised from its position of content rest atop his paws, legs straightening with the gesture of standing, followed by a light stretch before the tom's strides allowed him to advance across the clearing effortlessly to gather before the clan's new leader. Within, Razorfang was more than positive that this would be the Deputy announcement he had eagerly been anticipating. And, although the warrior continued to maintain his icy aura as he settled comfortably upon the terrain... it was impossible to keep the interest out of his dull irises as they averted upwardly to scan the River Stone for the sight of the golden tom, Sandstar. Majority of Sandstar's words were hardly noted, for his main focus was upon the name soon to be spoken from the newly appointed leader's vocal chords. And, once the name was voiced aloud... a few seconds were spent before Razorfang cued into the fact the name was none other than his own. Razorfang blinked, slightly caught off guard. The Rainclan warrior had spent a moon or two wondering what it'd be like to be selected. And, he even caught himself planning the perfect speech of acceptance once upon a time. But now that the moment had truly arrived, he had never been more... speechless. Thankfully, the familiar bundle of reddish brown fur that belonged to none other than his joyful apprentice was enough to rattle Razorfang back into the situation's reality. Russetpaw's words would normally spark some kind of hostility from the warrior's unusual temperament. However, for the purpose of the occasion, he instead offered a smirk of amusement. Razorfang stood, attempting to keep his air of stunning power, yet ominous elegance completely in check. He nodded solemnly in the River Stone's direction, deciding to take one more moment of his time and dedicate it to the apprentice that had stumbled across the gathering of Rainclan cats to be the first to congratulate him up close. “I'll make you proud, Russetpaw. You don't have to worry about that.” The tom raised a paw and nudged Russetpaw's shoulder, a chuckle oozing from the newly announced Deputy's throat before he pivoted and began progressing toward the River Stone to stand directly beneath Sandstar's positioning. Upon arrival, he lowered his head in utmost respect. “Thank you, Sandstar. It is my greatest honour to serve Rainclan to the best of my abilities as Deputy.” From his position, the tom had to tilt his chin upward to meet Sandstar's gaze. And, for what could seem as the first time in the eyes of many, there was an unusual glint of a stunning trait of happiness that seemed to glisten brightly in the black tom's gray-green irises.
