Honeygaze collapsed into her mossy nest; exhaustion sweeping over her like a wave of deep blue. She briefly glanced over her shoulder at the silhouette of her sister, Greywing. Spotting the gentle rising and falling of her pelt, she smiled; a little more at ease.
The golden tabby she-cat was exhausted. Catching land-prey was more than it's worth, she was looking forward to when the river melted again, she was starting to get sick of mice and birds instead of the sweet, fresh taste of trout or minnow.
Slowly closing her eyes, she found her immediately immersed in a deep blue wave of tiredness and it wasn't long until she found herself being washed away into sleep.
When Honeygaze awoke, she found herself standing on pebbles. Blinking in confusion, she looked up to find she was on the shore of a huge lake; sparkling and glittering in the moonlight. It looked oddly familiar, as though in another life, the golden tabby warrior had been here.
She spotted movement in the corner of eye. Turning, she spotted the silver silhouttes of cats, their pelts shining like starlight.
Am I in StarClan? she thought to herself, a little confusion, Am I dead?
Her thoughts were interrupted by a rustle of leaves. Honeygaze spun round, her heart racing. Out of the undergrowth emerged a small cat, no, she corrected herself, a kitten?
Though small, the young cat carried himself in a very dignified way. His pelt was downy and soft, though Honeygaze could tell that one day it would be much like hers. It was of a dark grey colour and glittered with starshine. Around the kitten's neck, the fur bunched, giving it the look of a mane.
His paws were small and paler than the rest of his body, and in between each claw, the fur clumped together.
Looking up at his eyes though, was intense. The kitten's eyes were a warm honey-amber colour and were unblinking; as though filled with knowledge way beyond his moons.
Finally, Honeygaze made the connection.
"Riverkit," her voice scarcely a whisper, her amber gaze filled with emotion, so deep.
She rushed forward to her lost brother, longing to press her nose into his soft, dark grey pelt, but he stopped her.
"Honeygaze," he meowed, stepping away from her, though regret swam in his amber gaze.
Honeygaze was lost for words. There was so much she wanted to say, but so little time. But before she could speak, Riverkit stopped her.
"I have some old friends to show you,"[/b] he meowed in a voice beyond his moons. Eyes glittering with emotion, he flicked his sweeping grey tail behind him towards the undergrowth.
Honeygaze spotted more silver shapes, darting amongst the shadows, then another cat emerged.
He looked to be about the size of an apprentice, though Honeygaze knew that had he lived, he would've been made a warrior in a moon or so.
"Stormpaw," Honeygaze half whispered, half sobbed. Her amber eyes shone with a deep emotion. Her dead littermate was much bigger than she remembered him.
His long, silky grey and white pelt glittered with starshine and was no longer stained with blood, neither did it bear the scar where he had been bitten by a snake, which ultimately, had caused his death.
His piercing blue gaze was filled with such intense emotions, that Honeygaze had to look away for a minute. Stormpaw stepped forward, dipping his head to his sister, then glancing over his shoulder.
Another cat followed, but this time the golden tabby she-cat recognised her instantly.
"Lilybreeze, mother," Honeygaze sobbed, darting towards her, though she too refused to make contact with her, though the RainClan she-cat could see the hurt in her green gaze.
It was rather perculiar, as the former RainClan queen looked nothing like any of her kits. Her fur was short and neat and was a pale ginger colour. Splodges of white marked her otherwise unmarked pelt and her eyes were a pale green colour, rather like leaves Honeygaze thought.
"It is time," she began with a sigh, "That I introduced you to someone," she flicked her tail towards the undergrowth.
A tom strode out, his fur shining silver in the moonlight. Confidently, he approached Honeygaze and the other StarClan cats. As he dipped his head in turn to each cat, Honeygaze managed to get a proper look at him.
His fur was long and silky, a deep golden-brown colour, and his paws were small and neat. But it was his eyes, perhaps, that Honeygaze found the most fascinating.
His left was a deep, piercing blue colour and his right was warm honey-amber colour. Her heart started to race, there was something about his eyes, that, that.
Honeygaze couldn't put a finger on it.
She rushed to the lake shore and stared down at the clear surface, at her own amber eyes, then back at Stormpaw and Riverkit, then the newcomer.
"You... You're..." Honeygaze couldn't get the words out, instead staring dumbstruck at the golden brown tabby tom.
Lilybreeze met her confused gaze, "This is Tangle," she meowed, her voice wobbling a little. She swallowed.
Honeygaze still couldn't speak, the former RainClan queen seemed to read her thoughts.
"Yes, my sweet, precious daughter. He's your father."
There was silence that lasted for a few moments, then the golden tabby warrior met Tangle's gaze, "F-father," she meowed a little unsteadily, "You're my father."
The golden-brown tabby tom nodded, "Yes, Honeygaze, I am your father." his voice was gentle and confident, Honeygaze found it rather soothing.
She didn't speak, her gaze darted from Riverkit and Stormpaw. Both looked sympathetic and she guessed that they had already been told of their father.
Swallowing, Honeygaze sat up a little taller and addressed her father, "So, you're a loner then."
Tangle nodded curtly, but didn't say a word.
"Honeygaze."
The RainClan she-cat's amber gaze returned to her mother.
Lilybreeze smiled, "We bring you a message," she glanced sideways at Riverkit and Stormpaw, "You must move on, my sweet daughter. You can't dwell in the past forever."[/i]
Stormpaw chose this time to speak, "Until you move on from your past, you life will not be lived. You've been blessed with the gift of live, make the most of it." his piercing blue gaze was filled with regret.
Honeygaze swallowed and was about to protest, but realised what they were saying was true. She couldn't live in the past, she had been given a life, she needed to make the most of it.
She smiled shyly, "I'll do you proud,"
Lilybreeze smiled, "Oh I know you will, Honeygaze. I know you will."
