Heading into camp once again empty jawed the warrior dropped to his side once out of the entrance way. The murky grey tom had spent the better part of the morning hunting well trying to hunt. It seemed every time he went out he came back even more hungry than before. It was terribly frustrating to the him that he didn't even want to look for anymore food, but he had to, the life of his clan was hanging in the balance.

With the fresh-kill pile growing smaller and smaller, he did his best not to allow that depressing sight of it affect his mood to much. Curling up in a tight ball he laid under what little sunlight that carried even the smallest of warmth he wasn't sleeping, he was just resting, trying to clear away the dread of not bringing home any kind of meal for his clan or even his mate.

She felt as though she could walk on the clouds that hung low in the sky. Her heart was so light and every step took half the effort it usually did. She could do anything that she wanted to, and it would turn out perfectly, just the way she desired it. The wide grin across her featured seemed horribly out of place in RainClan's camp, full of slowly starving cats and a shrinking fresh-kill pile, but Brighteyes could not bring herself to care. Partially because she had never had a reason to try, the warrior had always been bad at hiding her emotions and refused to start now. Besides, her smile might make another cat smile. Apart from him. She could barely wait to tell him the news!

Brighteyes spied the subject of her thoughts a moment later, padding into camp with defeat written all over his body language, familiar gray shoulders slumped. Sadness pricked at her heart, the force of it small compared the sheer joy that lifted her sky high. Light, quick steps carried the she-cat over to her mate, and a purr rose in her throat as she approached. Letting the sound reverberate through her chest, the she-cat moved close to Tideripple, intending to press herself against him. "Hello, my love," She meowed quietly, barely supressing the excitement and beating back the urge to tell him outright. "Can you guess what I'm going to tell you?"

He shifted only slightly in his tight ball that he almost fell asleep. Not that it was the most comfortable of places to rest but he was tired no doubt but didn't feel like joining the warrior's den, not while he felt like a failure. To keep him awake his opened his eyes, while still curled up and was slightly amazed by how tight he was curled up, almost no light filtered in but something else did.

His ears fluttered as her beautiful voice rang in his ears. No later did she speak did he feel her warm and comforting fur up against his. Sitting up he nuzzled his mate, enjoying her getting and a smile crossed his lip when she asked him to guess her surprise.

Many things crossed his minds, but he wasn't sure what to guess. "You found food and there are five warriors coming back with jaw and jaws full of fish?" He asked, tummy rumbling in the thought of a miracle of a meal. While it seemed to far fetched to be possible it didn't stop the tom from dreaming.

Though she knew that she should not take the well-being of their clan so lightly, Brighteyes gave a chuckle at his response. It was her giddyness, perhaps, that brought on the laugh at something that really should not have been funny. At this point, she felt as though she could smile at anything, though her happiness was not untouchable. The complaining of his stomach, a sound that had become painfully familiar over the course of leaf-bare, sobered her up a little, reminding her just how dire their situation was. "I wish," Brighteyes purred, absentmindedly grooming his shoulder in a comforting manner. "But you're wrong."

Pressed against her mate, she paused in her actions, grinning into his fur as she tried to control her urge to blurt out her surprise. "I think you'll agree with me," She began, her clear voice muffled by his shoulder, "When I say that my surprise might be better than prey, as strange as that seems." Really, it was amazing that she could form coherent sentences at all, instead of squealing and making nonsensical noises due to the joy that made her heart feel as though it was going to burst. Another powerful purr left her throat, and she could hold her tongue no longer, as occupied as it was with grooming him. Slowly, she groomed her way up toward his head, emitting purrs as she did so. Once her breath shifted the fur on the top of his head, she breathed softly, "We're going to be parents!"

Tideripple had his eyes closed and simply enjoyed the company of his mate, her warm purrs and gentle grooming of his pelt nearly put him asleep, not that it was terrible thing.

As he dozed off he thought briefly of his mother how she was so warm to him even if he never knew his father or knew just how much they looked alike. While Tideripple was no fool and from time to time as he grew up he saw his mother with a heavy heart and even heavy eyes, Tideripple was sure everytime he talked to her her heart would break.

However, the warm news that Brighteyes purred into his ear had his eyes open wide and throat rumbling in a loud purr. "Really?!" He shouted in happiness, leaning up to cover in cheek and ears in lovely kisses, moving to nuzzle her neck after a few frantic licks.

"I can't wait to see our little bundle" He purred happily, looking down to her belly, wondering just how strong his kits would be, he was so very excited.
