While Spottedfeather said she'd have the break healed in no time at all but Lionstar felt the apprentice's training shouldn't be held by to many moon.
While at first Lionsong was over joyed for the chance to mentor a cat she quickly went to her old mentor and asked for tips, while he was kind and joked with her a short-while he said there isn't much of a way to teach someone how to train, but rather just do what felt right. Lionsong with a respectful nod did as her former mentor said and picked battle training to be the start.
She gave the message to the dark colored tom-cat that looked very fluffy it gave Lionsong something to smile about, as she headed to the hidden thicket and paced up and down the battle training arena. It didn't seem that long ago she too was here working up a hungry belly sparring with her mentor, her skill of learning battle moves easily was a skill she used all the time.
She practiced even now with willing warrior friends, to ensure she was always at her best when battling, never knowing when a border patrol would turn ugly. As she waited, Lionsong sung a little tune, the reasons she was named, however it was quite and hard to hear, but it filled her heart with happiness, she finally had a goal in life. Mountainpaw had been rather distraught when he heard of his mentor’s accident; however it wasn’t at all because his training may suffer. His training was honestly not a huge concern to him when he was thinking about the tragedy that had befallen Longstripe. He had grown very fond of his mentor, and he was genuinely concerned for his wellbeing after the accident. It wasn’t to last though, he was soon assured that although Longstripe would be slowed down a little for a while he was going to be fine in the long run, much to the relief of Mountainpaw.
Even with peace of mind over his mentor’s health Mountainpaw was still concerned very little with his training, it just didn’t matter to him at all. He was sure one day he would become a warrior, and even that wasn’t a very big concern with him. He still would try hard but he was just too easy going to let anything so simple get to him. Even if he wasn’t thinking about it himself it was obvious someone was as Lionsong informed him to meet her at the hidden thicket.
He set out from camp without a worry or care in the world, there was no hurry in his step either. Taking a breath of the crisp, cool air he surveyed the area as he walked. He found it odd that a treacherous season that tried every year, and succeeded plenty, in killing the clan cats could be beautiful in its own way. Was that saying something about the weather, or death itself? Is death beautiful? With these thoughts in his head he entered the thicket with a slightly scrunched face pondering his newest revelation.
There he found his new mentor humming a near inaudible song; he quickly shook his head to rid it of the thoughts of death. He smiled and sat down near silently, he wasn’t even sure if she had noticed him entering the thicket. So he decided he would sit there until he was noticed.

Lionsong meowed flicking her tail and taking a few steps backwards she peered at her apprentice with keen eyes. Mountainpaw gave his new mentor a curt nod as she gave him the order to attack, he wasn’t put off and he didn’t ask any questions. He didn’t even seem phased at all that she had moved so quickly into his training, and even more odd would be how he went about fulfilling the order she had given him. He started circling her slowly; his probing gaze would seem to burn into her very soul. Slowly moving he would tilt his head as if he was in question of her, perhaps her very existence.
Many cats would honestly find the display terrifying, its’ oddity would surly leave even the most experienced cats terrified. His very being was his best weapon, he was so different. His difference was hard for other cats to accept, hard for them to deal with and it made such a useful tool for him in combat. After circling and getting closer to the she cat step by step he lunged quickly with a few swats of his front paws, nothing serious as he quickly exited the confrontation before becoming committed. His mentor hadn’t been slacking with his training and he wasn’t a new apprentice, he had been doing this a while.
It was all just a test to Mountainpaw as he wanted to see how she moved before he would commit to any sort of attack strategy. He wasn’t even thinking how badly this might anger his mentor as she was supposed to be observing him.

While his first moves were excellent and well crafted, Lionsong watched him and knew where he was weakest at, he move too quick.
While it was an advantage to move quickly to dodge attacks but it was a disadvantage if you weren't in one place long enough to land a more damaging move, that was going to be her first order of business with the new apprentice.
"That is enough, you did very well Mountainpaw but I do have a few changes to make." Lionsong meowed kindly flicking her tail respectfully. "You attacks are quick but I feel they lack the power behind them. I suggest that the next time you attack bounce around like you did and once you find an opening strike with full force instead of batting away."
[/color] Lionsong meowed trying to think of ways to give an example but didn't see instead flicked her tail and prepared for a sparring event. "Come at my again this time commit to one attack don't always stick to dancing around." She purred faintly trying to seem friendly to Mountianpaw. Mountainpaw took a moment to absorb everything that Lionsong threw at him, he quickly made a mental list, albeit a short one, continue doing what you are doing, dance around it’s working for you and commit to the big strike when you see the opening. She was being kind to him, and he was rather pleased as he responded much better to kindness then cold callous behavior. He however had to put in a few words, “That’s true; however I was just getting some distancing down. I don’t want to swing for the big strike and hit air.” He said as he started moving again, clearly he was going into an aggressive stance showing he was going to try again.
He circled a little bit, although not nearly as much as he had last time because he was already a little familiar with his opponent. He was positive she would be displeased with what he was about to do, but he figured that wasn’t a reason to ignore what he knew worked. He threw a few quick strikes just as he had before attempting to get Lionsong to move, and it was only a few quick moments before he saw his opportunity and struck hard with a bite. He wouldn’t make it quick though, if he made contact with it he would just keep his fangs tucked gently to her fur and flesh showing his surgical precision with the move.

It was exciting to be sparring with a cat that was learning quickly and already smart enough to know how to keep a distance. While he was quick, Lionsong had the hind legs power to match him easier and created a charming picture for any passing cat. The opening was coming, the cat was going faster and while Lionsong in a real battle wouldn't have had any trouble keeping up she did slow down to allow him an opening for his final blow.
The bit startled her a bit but she didn't cry out in surprise but smiled in praise. That was nearly the same thing she would have done! The thrill of knowing he was clever enough to think out of the norm nearly had her jumping for joy but she remained composed but her eyes shining brightly.
"That was a great move Mountainpaw! Enemies don't expect a bite and with your smaller size they'd expect you to use only your claws, but that was smart move." She praised him happily and it was well earned, flicking her tail in happiness she sat on her rump and flicked her tail for him to do the same.
"You are a fast cat but in battle your enemy won't be slowing down at all. While I am pleased you thought of the normal and bite me, I want to teach you some battle strategies, if you are up for it." She asked him, unsure if he had learned any while under Longstipe's mentorship.

The praise came quickly from his new mentor as he loosened his jaw and let go of the mouthful of the she-cat he possessed. He took a step back and spat softly to dislodge some of Lionsongs stray fuzz that had hitched a ride on his tongue. As he made his space and cleared his mouth his mentor motioned for him to sit with here, which the young cat declined. He had remained stone faced through everything she said to him, if he felt any pride or joy in the kind words from Lionsong he hid it perfectly. He had no time for the praise, some cats needed to hear such things to succeed as a warrior Mountainpaw was not one of those cats. He knew exactly what he was, and he didn’t need it to be verified by another to help his self worth. He noted the small bit of criticism she offered then was asked if he was up to learning some battle strategy. He simply nodded his head once as his unwavering, unmoving cold gaze stayed on the she-cat.

While it wasn't bad that he was it was his reactions weren't as she expected from an apprentice. It possibly was from her own mentor where praise came little and far apart that she felt over excited when the senior warrior praised her for even the smallest of victories.
Mountainpaw chose to stay standing and Lionsong wasn't going to make him sit but she looked in the dirt below her and used her claw to make little scratches. "Alright when you are given orders, it's very important you follow them but also can think for yourself." She meowed drawing and pointing to each mark in the dirt to be a different warrior group.
"When attacking an enemy patrol try and rush the flank. It takes agility and speed which I'm sure you have plenty of. Rushing the flank and taking an enemy by surprise is the best thing to happen during a battle She said, pausing for a moment, learning quickly that Mountainpaw wouldn't have much reaction.
"Now what do you think would be the best reaction to a overpowering on the enemies part? Say they have three more cats then a TreeClan patrol of four. What would you do?" She asked, flicking her tail, wondering if he'd answer correctly. [style=float: left; background-color: wheat; height: 10px; width: 30px; margin: 1 4 0 0;] Your word count goes here. It was strange, even though Mountainpaw was a very softspoken cat he happened to be very opinionated. He did agree with the part about listening to orders that was partly because he knew it was a good way to disappear into a crowd and not stand out. He however didn’t agree with the last thing the she-cat said, he wouldn’t just flank a group of cats if he could. However he didn’t have the combat experience, so he kept his mouth shut because maybe his ideas wouldn’t actually stack up in a real situation. However he was about to find out what she thought of his ideas as she posed the question about the best way to attack a smaller group of cats.
The apprentice stopped and thought about it for a moment, most the time was actually spent finding the right words so as not to get him in trouble. The wrong words would make the whole situation sound more like an execution. “Well with a larger group you would make a full circle around the enemy, it would render the cats in the middle of the pack useless whilst still allowing your cats to gang up on those on the outside. It also prevents retreat so you could in theory remove the cats from the battle completely… if you wish to destroy them that is.”

[style=border: 5px wheat solid; text-align: center; width: 100px; height: 100px;] lionsong [/style][style=font-family: verdana; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; padding-top: 5px; line-height: 12px;]Lionsong studied him, she was caught off guard by his statement but she was careful not to show it. This cat before her was speaking of destroying a patrol, which in her mind played out to kill and in a sense devour the enemy. While Lionsong knew that death was apart of everyday clan life. Daily prey died to serve as energy toward the Clan's life. Warriors died in battle and even queens died bringing in new warriors. Even their system of ranks was built upon dying, a new deputy wasn't chosen unless the ony before him had died, same as for the leader.
That was the reason Lionsong felt so loyal to Lionstar, he was the deputy who stepped up to the plate in order to bring TreeClan out of the loss of Distantstar and into the light of a new leader, a new promise. Flicking her tail, Lionsong thought for a moment, allowing the silence to grow. She hadn't yet pin pointed where she wanted to speak first instead she made her choice like always to attack things head on.
"Destroy would not have been the word any one would have used. To destroy something in my mind and the minds of many warriors would be to kill something off. While it might seem to be worthwhile to kill an enemy cat, it will not benefit you or the clan." Lionsong spoke sternly rising up, presenting herself in a more stern fashion. "You should never kill a cat unless it's life or death to you or life or death to someone weaker than yourself. The only justification I can see in murdering a cat would be if he or she was bent on murdering you. " Lionsong paused for a moment to gather her thoughts again.
"You however do have a point, circling up on a smaller patrol would be smart and not allow for reinforcements, but a trapped warrior will become a killing warrior." Lionsong finally said, thinking back to a battle she once served in, while she enjoyed the thrill of attack and defending her clan, she also saw the heart ache of death. Her mentor's mate died in that battle, still Lionsong remained faithful and accepted that one day she might have to kill a cat to protect her Clan, she just prayed it wasn't any time soon.
"Mountainpaw I think we had a very eventful training day, why not go and head home. I'll see you tomorrow at dawn for a patrol." Lionsong excused her apprentice with a flick of her tail and a gently touch of her nose to his shoulder, she waited for him to leave.

Mountainpaw was dismissed; however he didn’t feel like leaving at all. He hadn’t really been talking about killing other cats, as a part of their culture it was a huge taboo. Even without the cultural stigma, something deep down made his fur crawl at the thought of ending another cat’s life in cold blood. Taking away something he could never give back was something Mountainpaw could never bring himself to do, or even indorse in any way. So he wasn’t just going to walk away after her little talk about murder, he wasn’t at all surprised that she thought he was capable of it. He was quite, and was rather reclusive so getting a good judge of his character could be difficult. What rather scared him was the fact that she thought he was talking about murdering cats in battle tactics and had said her part on how it was wrong. That was it? He wouldn’t move until he had talked this one out, “I wasn’t talking about killing warriors, but this needs to be discussed before I go anywhere… you thought I just mentioned murdering other cats and you don’t have more then that to say?”

"Mountainpaw it's not that I'm afraid of you murdering cats. You will become a strong warrior and I am pleased to be your mentor. The reason I don't wise to keep talking about murdering cats is that I don't have fear that you will. " Lionsong now presented herself warmly, a nurturer of character. " I have faith that you will become a noble warrior, which includes having good judgement. I don't feel you will become a murderer so I don't see the point talking about it anymore with you. Lionsong said firmly, a touch of warmth for the cat before in her eyes.
"So again I feel you should take a rest and be ready at dawn for a patrol. You again are dismissed. " Lionsong said again, flicking her tail over his shoulder as she got up to leave, his time she waited for him to walk with her home, pride for apprentice warm in her heart. The warrior didn’t take long to mull over her words, “Fair enough.” He said simply standing as she flicked her tail and dismissed him again, this time to leave along side her. He wasn’t satisfied though and wasn’t sure how to proceed, she was his mentor but he wasn’t going to let the words go unsaid. “Lionsong how much do you actually know about me? You can name my parents, siblings, and my clan but what else?” He asked in a simple tone as he began to walk back towards camp. He remained silent for a short moment before he added onto the question clarifying before she answered, “You probably know me as the quite tom that is polite and reserved, but honestly isn’t that the true absence of knowing a single thing about me?” He delivered the line as he turned to look the she-cat in the eyes as they walked, giving her a serious stare to probe her eyes for doubt about him.
