Smokefur wandered down from Ravenstar’s den looking for Gracklefire, she had spent that last couple minutes begging for the right to leave camp. This was a rather odd occurrence as she was a full medicine cat, and she was confined to camp like a kit or apprentice. She started towards the warriors den in search for the warrior that would accompany her in her search for herbs to replenish her stocks. She poked her head inside the warriors den and asked in a defeated tone, “Gracklefire? Are you in here?” She spotted the warrior and moved over to him and started to speak in a low tone so as not to be overheard, she was rather ashamed. “Ravenstar has ordered you to accompany me as a… escort-“ She chose the word in place of kitsitter even if the latter was a bit more fitting. “To help me collect herbs.” She finished whilst still looking down at her paws, as she was ashamed of what she had done and even a bit of her punishment. It was very obvious she was embarrassed.

Her mind had been to caught up with her interaction with Mudstep the few nights before, not to mention the fact her belly rumbled with the need to eat however no fresh-kill was present in the meager pile it was almost sicken to the black she-cat. However her discomfort was politely placed somewhere else as she looked toward the medicine cat she hardly knew for Gracklefire was one of the healthier cat to inhabit NightClan, a pride she held to herself.
The tabby cat before her asked for an escort and Gracklefire didn't disagree, with the threat of Demon during the leaf-bare months, not to mention the threat of other Clans was so high, Gracklefire wasn't even okay with letting anyone out of her sight, without a partner, it just wasn't wise.
"I'd wouldn't mind gathering herbs with you, but you will need to show me which ones." Gracklefire spoke respectfully, flicking her tail as she started toward the camp entrance, pausing a moment to wait for Smokefur.

Smokefur moved closer to the warrior and said in a low tone under her breath, “I can find the herbs fine…” She sighed moving her eyes up to meet Gracklefurs’ “I need an escort because… I’ve…” She broke her eye contact with the warrior, “I’m being punished by Ravenstar, I… need an escort at all times… and I can’t leave camp unless a warrior accompanies me…” She was obviously very embarrassed. She then started walking towards the entrance of camp wanting to continue this conversation where others couldn’t pry. Wouldn’t matter sooner or later every cat in camp would know exactly how bad she had been as of late. As she left the camp she started searching by digging at piles of snow fairly close to the last known locations of the herbs. She wasn’t even sure if the warrior had followed her, but after she had brought Ravenstars punishment and orders for Grackenfur to tail her she knew the cat would be right behind her.

That kind of thing could the medicine cat have done in order to upset Ravenstar that she'd be needing an escort at all time. It was puzzling and brought a slightly confused look across Gracklefire's face but she dismissed it, it wasn't her place to ask questions in fact more accustomed to siding with Ravenstar are matters such as those.
If Smokefur had broken a law, or risked the safety of the Clan, then Ravenstar had every right within her claws to deal out punishment even if that included Smokefur needing an escort at all time. However Gracklefire was a warrior and wasn't held accountable for matters of leadership within her clan, she had already vowed her life and soul to Nightclan at the time of her birth, it was forced into her mind just like breathing and talking, it was natural. Without further questions Gracklefire followed the medicine cat without question and stood beside her as dug for herbs, it was a weak attempt with all the snow and Gracklefire couldn't help but feel sorry for the silver tabby.
"Any way I can help?" Gracklefire asked, squatting on her front legs to appear humble and less menacing, she knew that her silent and closed ways were seen as a threat at times, deadly are the silent ones.

Smokefur was glad the warrior had offered help, she was afraid as soon as she had mentioned punishment from Ravenstar many Nightclan cats would think her a bad medicine cat that needed to be tossed into a fire, slow roasted and fed to the queens and elders. Nightclans' fanaticism at times could be a little scary, although their dedication to their clan was a huge asset in Smokefur’s case it could mean extra punishment from cats beside their leader. They all took insubordination seriously, however the way Gracklefire was acting it didn’t seem like she was going to smack the medicine cat around a little and that made her grateful. “No, I’m quite alright.” Smokefur said as she dug at another spot where where herbs had grown in the greener seasons. “Ah!” She exclaimed gently, “There is a little bit of comfrey here!” She gently removed what she could of the plant and set it in front of her escort, “I have changed my mind, and it would be very helpful if you could carry the herbs we collect.”

"So Smokefur, what happened?" She asked gently not wanting to upset the medicine cat, her question remained however, but her tone was light and if Smokefur didn't want to answer her Gracklefur accepted that. Yet the black she-cat kept herself busy as the silver tabby worked, lining the bundles of herbs up in a mock perfectionism type mannerism.

Although Gracklefur didn’t specify exactly what situation she was referring to the silver medicine cat had a fairly good idea of what she was wondering about. “Well…” She said gently trailing off as she worked pausing to give herself time to find the best words to describe the situation. “If you are referring to my punishment I challenged Ravenstars’ choice to send patrols into Treeclan territory to steal prey.” She said honestly, “When she dismissed my concerns I threatened to withdraw my treatment of any sick cats if she didn’t cease her actions at once.” She said sitting slowly, she had stopped working and was now twirling a paw in circles on the snow. It was obvious she was either very embarrassed, scared, remorseful or maybe a mix of all three. “It didn’t last long, she broke me of my disobedience before I could refuse one patient and then she punished me with an iron paw.” Smokefur said in a little voice, Ravenstar was her sister but she did fear he slightly even so. She wasn’t afraid her leader would be cruel to her or hurt her unfairly, but she did know she had the power to make the medicine cat mewl like a kit still in the nursery.

Listening to the younger she-cat, Gracklefire felt it was right how Ravenstar had punished her, after all Smokefur was a medicine cat she took a vow to help all cats.
"I don't agree with Ravenstar asking us to steal prey, however, I don't agree with you threatening to withhold treat me to any sick or dying cats. I might now be a medicine cat but I've been around for a few seasons. Gracklefire paused for a moment and looked away from the silver tabby before her bright amber eyes went back.
"There are better ways to solve problems Smokefur, allowing cats to die is not one. Showing dislike of an order is fair and allowed but don't let your dislike of a choice ruin the lives of everyone else." Gracklefire said finally her tail flicking and ears rotating a sense of her wisdom of her 55 moons was growing stronger but she didn't let that belittle the cat in front of her, Smokefur out ranked her but Gracklefire carried the experience of watching cats die, the death of her kits on her own heart.

Smokefur didn’t much appreciate what the she-cat had to say, she was telling her a view on the situation she thought rather juvenile. Of course on paper it looked so obvious but it was much to black and white and wasn’t at all suited to stand up to the real world’s brutal being. “You think I would just let those suffer? I am in a position of power not for the same reasons Ravenstar is. I have irreplaceable skills the clan so desperately needs; there are other cats in our clan right now that could lead Nightclan with great success. I was never going to let cats suffer; I just wanted to see Ravenstar concede because she would be lost without me and my skills.” Smokefur said in a rather indignant tone, “What you have just suggested is such an overused cliché I can’t really respond with anything but a question, what sweet little innocent world do you live in? I live in a cold unforgiving one where those that dare win.” She growled softly at Gracklefire.

"You might have made a great warrior" Gracklefire said casually, allowing the medicine cat before her to slide on her outburst. Normally if the cat was more within a warrior's ranking, Gracklefire wouldn't have hesitated and lashed out giving the cat a few well placed blows to the ears. However, it was treason to attack one's own medicine cat and Gracklefire wasn't ready yet to meet StarClan, instead he turned and stepped back a little. Still, the statement and question Smokefur left in the air about Gracklefire's innocent world brought a thick growl to her throat.
"Smokefur, you are clearly mistaken. I do not live in an innocent world. My world is filled with memory of kits I didn't want but loved so dearly. My world is marked by a tom I loved with my entire being that saw me only as a play thing. My world is beaten raw with reminders of a dear friend I lost, forced to keep going as if every day I don't wish to seem my babies growing strong. Smokefur you are fool to think I have an innocent life." Gracklefur paused for a moment, emotion raising in her words.
"I bid you good day Smokefur, carry your own herbs back." Gracklefur growled stepping back placing the herbs at the she-cat paws before turning and heading back toward the camp, her heart heavy and weary, the ugly healed scars reopening with each step.

The silver medicine cat watched as her escorted ditched the assignment and left the herbs Smokefur had collected for her to carry by herself. Smokefur wasn’t angry or disappointed that Gracklefire had left her post, she didn’t blame her she knew she had upset the cat greatly. She felt a little bad, she didn’t mean to make her leave she just wasn’t keen on getting a lecture on things she already knew especially when she felt she knew more on the subject than the one trying to lecture her. She silently picked up the herbs and started walking back towards camp in the warriors wake. The silver medicine cat was already mulling over ways to apologize to Gracklefur in her mind, she knew she would have to make an important heartfelt apology to the she-cat or she could lose her trust forever. Smokefur figured a simple ‘I’m sorry’ was out of the question, she had to think of something much bigger than that but for the light of her she couldn’t think of what.
