Name: Thornkit > Thornpaw > ? Age: 1 1/2 Moons Gender: Tom Clan: NightClan Rank: Kit
Picture: Adult Form
Description:
A small buff colored kitten with stereotypical blue kitten-eyes. They are going to change to a bright amber once he's closer to his apprenticeship, but for now they're as sky-blue as any of his siblings'. His fur is soft with kitten-down, he's a little bit cloud-like in appearance, with his petite body structure and pale-furred face.
Though he's little right now, if his parents anything to go by, he's going to get big; his father was notorious for knocking over apprentices and smaller cats due to his bulky size.
His nose is pink, his tummy is fluffy, his ears are soft and pointed, with possible tufts in his future.
Description Summary: A fluffy buff-colored kitten with pale blue eyes.
Personality:
Thornkit is the oldest of his litter of three, and that brings with it a sort of entitlement. Though he's only a moon and a half old now, when he gets older, he's going to feel a sense of responsibility over Ash and Oak, the kind that runs deep and is too hard to disrupt for anything. He'll be a proud apprentice, who is eager to learn but just doesn't have the time or patience for fairy tales.
He'll become a realist, since the deaths of his parents and the treachery of his uncle, which means he'll cultivate a certain amount of distrust and cynicism. Don't get me wrong, he's a perfectly fine, healthy kit, but he'll have kind of a rough start to life. Being a NightClan cat by blood, he is proud of his heritage, and won't tolerate anyone speaking poorly of his parents or his Clan. He will be brave and strong, though with a probable lack of faith in StarClan and won't believe too strongly in the kindness of others.
Nothing will be more important to him than Ashkit and Oak-kit; because of his rescue by RainClan, he may struggle with not looking upon them with bias, but knowing this fella, he'll just chalk it up to them following the warrior code. He doesn't have plans to get close to anybody, but he's not unfriendly, just that when the training session or the gathering or the Clan meeting is over, he expects you to let him be or leave him to go hang out with his siblings. His social circle will be small, but when you finally make it in, you'll be one of the few cats he'll trust for the rest of his life.
History:
Bramblesong and Boulderstep were happy and in love; they were a very attractive match, Bramblesong being a pretty blue tortoiseshell, Boulderstep a very masculine dark tabby. Their love story was a favorite amongst the more soft-hearted queens and she-cats of NightClan; Boulderstep had been in love with her since their apprentice days, and had done just about everything he possibly could to win her over, even putting other apprentices down to make himself look good, as he was popular and he just couldn't understand why she wouldn't give him the time of day.
The cold shoulder she kept giving him ended just after they were made warriors, when Boulderstep saved Bramblesong from Demon. It was one of those situations where luck and StarClan has to really be on your side for things to work out alright, and as it turned out, Boulderstep had plenty of both. Fending off Demon bravely, he was able to buy Bramblesong enough time to get into a tree before the saving patrol arrived. Boulderstep had nearly lost an eye, but at the end of the day he had a scar down over one eye, a new place as a respected warrior in NightClan, and the girl he'd always wanted.
Shortly afterwards, they were expecting their first litter, and none were happier for the pair than Boulderstep's brother, Longshadow. At least, for a little while.
The elders had started talking, as elders usually do, but this time it was different than their usual complaints or bouts of nostalgia. They had told Bramblesong with a spark in their eyes that her kits were likely to become great warriors if given the chance, maybe even the next best thing to ever happen to NightClan. Longshadow had always been a superstitious cat, a jealous cat who inwardly loathed his brother for getting the girl he'd always wanted for himself.
Unable to deal with the possibility that Bramblesong and Boulderstep were going to have the next generation of NightClan's future legends, he contemplated killing her, but his own attachment, his own lingering love for the she-cat prevented him from doing so.
A short while later, Bramblesong's kits were born, and it was just as the elders had said, three, Oak, Ash and Thorn, just like the poem old Newtclaw had spoke of:
“Of all the trees that grow so fair, / Old Forest to adorn, / Greater are none beneath the Sun, / Than Oak and Ash and Thorn.”
She named the first born tom, a buff-colored kitten who was bigger than his siblings, Thornkit. The middle kit, a pretty she-cat with dark gray fur, became Ashkit, and the runt of the litter, a lighter tabby though close in appearance to his father, became Oak-kit. There was no longer any hesitation over what he must do.
He had to get rid of those kittens.
Bramblesong's life came to an end thanks to a quail stuffed with death berries, and the three kits were kidnapped, Longshadow, despite being as crooked as they come, could not kill his nice and nephews himself. Boulderstep, knowing what had happened, chased after the kit-stealer, and confronted him at the river. Boulderstep was brawnier, smarter and fighting with a rage spurned on by grief and betrayal. Had he not slipped upon the rocks, bashed his head and drowned, Longshadow's treachery would've ended right then and there.
After covering the kittens in wild garlic, Longshadow then scattered them, leaving the oldest by the river, leaving Ashkit in the moorlands of LightningClan territory, and he abandoned the runt of the litter in the farthest, swampiest corner of NightClan's territory. Assuming nature would do the rest, the tom had returned home, singing a sad tale that Boulderstep had snapped, killed his mate, drowned his kits before drowning himself, and that he, the noble Longshadow had tried to stop it.
The little buff kitten Longshadow had abandoned on the ice was rescued by Violetclaw, Blizzardclaw and Sandstripe, a small group of RainClan warriors and brought back to RainClan camp for treatment.
What happened to Oak-kit and Ashkit has yet to be revealed.
