APPEARANCE
APPEARANCE
A slightly chubby, short-furred silvery-blue tom with vibrant green eyes and a fluffy nub of a tail.
At first glance, Puffinkit looks like a ghost. The ghost of his father, Birdstar, but upon closer inspection, the differences appear. The most notable difference is Puffinkit’s lack of a tail. Where his father had a long, normal tail, he ended up with a remnant of his mother, a short, stubby nub of a tail with fur longer than the rest of his coat, giving him a little tuft at the end of his spine. His fur is currently a slightly fluffy, medium length, but as he ages, that kitten fluff will shift to a shorter, dense plush coat. It’s a consistent shade throughout, a silvery blue-grey with little to no variation in tone. As far as build, he’s a little larger than average, but by no means among the largest cats of the valley. His face is somewhat round, chubby cheeks giving him a soft appearance. He has a sturdy, muscular build, but some of his strength is hidden beneath a thin layer of fat, softening his overall look. He’s not overweight, but just carries around a little extra.
There are a couple spots that break up the monotony of Puffinkit’s coat. The flesh of his nose is a slightly darker gray, and his pawpads are a muted pink. His claws and whiskers are white, his whiskers vividly so. The last spot of color Puffinkit possesses is his eyes. The wide round orbs are a bright, vibrant green, and incredibly expressive. In fact, his entire face is expressive, more often than not revealing exactly how he’s feeling. Puffinkit reads like an open book, both unable and unwilling to hide his emotions, and it shows in more ways than one. At times when he gets very excited or incredibly happy, he’ll begin to wiggle, wagging his hind end and his tuft of a tail. This has led to Icefang calling him her “little wigglebutt,” a nickname that Puffintuft finds endearing.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY
Puffinkit is, overall, a soft cat. He’s gentle and kind, compassionate and selfless by nature. Fighting is not something he enjoys, and he tends to avoid it as much as possible. Even arguments and confrontations are avoided. Puffinkit is more naturally a peacekeeper, with a naive belief that all conflict can be solved without violence, or better yet, avoided entirely. He has a mindset that it’s possible for everyone to get along, all the time, and will struggle to learn that it’s simply not feasible. In his efforts to avoid all conflict, he can easily become a people-pleaser, often sacrificing his own comfort and ignoring his own feelings in order to keep the peace. Even when he isn’t attempting to avoid conflict, he’s still a selfless cat. Puffinkit doesn’t hesitate to lend a paw when someone is in need, or to just sit and listen and offer a calming presence. Despite his extra chub, Puffinkit is surprisingly willing to share food with others, partly due to a need to make sure others are cared for, and partly because he craves that connection with his Clanmates. He’s a very social cat, craving connection and attention from the cats around him. His kind and friendly nature makes it easy to make friends, but its the deeper bonds he needs more and works hard to attain.
Puffinkit is a very open and honest cat. Lying isn’t something that comes naturally to him, and it’s honestly not something he ever even considers as a possibility. Truth is best, even when it’s hard. He wears his heart on his sleeve and his emotions across his face. He’s an expressive cat, what many would consider an open book. He doesn’t know how to hide what he feels, for better or worse. He’s also a very paws-on cat, always willing to help out wherever he can. It doesn’t matter what the work is, he wants to be part of it. What he wants most is just to be able to help others. Whether that means extra hunting, extra patrols, doing physical work fortifying the camp, playing with kits or spending time with the elders, he wants to make sure his Clan and his family is cared for. His dream is to become a healer one day, so he can avoid conflict and use his paws for good. Training under Ebonyheart is a life goal for him, but due to his history and the punishment unknowingly handed down by StarClan, it seems he’s destined for heartbreak in this endeavor.

HISTORY
HISTORY
On a frozen morning, on the cusp of the transition from leaf-fall to leafbare, three kittens were born in secret. Deep within the shadows of the Hidden Thicket, a healer and a false queen conspired to bring forth new life in such a way as to mitigate the consequences for all. They were forbidden children, the kittens of a missing leader and a healer devoted to her position. StarClan frowned upon the pairing, as they did to all medicine cat relationships, fearing that a healer’s love for another soul would hinder their devotion to their Clan and their ancestors. The two she-cats had crafted a plan, a way for their Clanmates to never suspect the true lineage of the kittens. The false queen would raise them as her own, never revealing they were not of her blood.
Puffinkit, Cardinalkit, and Jaykit. Children of Birdstar, who had disappeared during the earthquake only a season before, and Ebonyheart, the dark healer that had to remain strong as she bore her secrets and her grief in the aftermath, even as she carried her position into her new Clan, GorgeClan. By her side the entire time was Icefang, the false queen who began to show the symptoms of the healer’s pregnancy, making the ruse all the more viable. They shared one day within the Hidden Thicket, where Ebonyheart could share with them the love she had as their mother, before they were forced to return to their Clan and begin playing their parts. Icefang would raise them as her own, having decided that they would know of their father, and tell them tales of the great cat Birdstar was. She felt they deserved that much.
Even before they had been born, StarClan had taken so much from them. Their father was missing, presumed dead, though no one could be certain and Icefang still held onto hope. Their mother was forced to give them up, to pretend they meant nothing to her, in order to keep her mantle as healer of GorgeClan, the one thing that gave her meaning in life. As if that wasn’t enough, StarClan felt fit to punish the kits for the sins of their parents. Puffinkit, Cardinalkit, and Jaykit could never hold a position of rank within the Clans, no matter how much they wanted it or how well they qualified. It felt extreme, but what cat could cross the will of StarClan? So Icefang vowed to do whatever it took to give the kittens as much of that back as she could. They would grow in love, and they would know exactly the cat their father was. She would protect them with her last breath, and her closeness with Ebonyheart would ensure that they had some sort of relationship with their true mother, even if it wasn’t the one they deserved.
