FLINTSTORM
The soft crunch of snow beneath paw pads brought with it the signature freezing feeling of the frosted liquid. It was distatefully uncomfortable. An annoyance They did not wish to have to endure but duty of a warrior calls. The lack of shelter from the coldness of snowflakes as they fell from the gloomy grey clouds above did not help Flintstorm's mood in the slightest. But They had a job to do. An important one that lay a little heavy on Their slight shoulders. With Leaf-bare's arrival not only had the herbs growth stunted in this season making it hard for the healers; Kindleflare and Ravenpaw of the clan to gain the right herbs for the sick but prey was also getting more and more scarce every day. The silver dappled feline was sent out with a partner in hopes to gain some more herbs for those whom were sick with Greencough. It had already killed Harestrike from what Flintstorm remembered and many others were still rather sick in both mild and severe stages of it. Stressed was an understatement for those poor cats and their families. Flintstorm debated whether They should be hunting right now instead but considering how many mouths the clan had to feed the silver tabby knew that right now able bodies were needed in more than just one place. If the warrior was not hunting another would have already be taking Their place. That just had to do for now; not like the warrior could do anything about it.
Green eyes lazily looked over Their shoulder Flinstorm gazed at the bangel trailing behind Them. The warrior let out a low sigh; too soft for the other to hear as They led the way through the territory of Galeclan. The open spaces that drew in the coldness of Leaf-Bare's wind was slowly dulled by the towers of rocks that slowly began to form around the two clan mates as Flintstorm made the path through the long and narrow path between two large walls of rocks. This area was known for being a common ground for herbs to grow. The two warrior's had been debriefed upon what herbs Kindleflare was looking for; what they looked like, what they smelled like, and the best places to find them. Flintstorm appreciated the information as They were a cat who liked details. Swiftfox; a much younger warrior then Themself was not one that the steely colored dappled tabby came around to speaking with. Born in the same clan sure but always the two were separated by age that built a barrier. This was one of the first rare times the two cat's paths crossed. A part of Flintstorm already disliked the tom before They actually got to know him because of his bright eyes that held secrets of mischief and the bound in his step. Swiftfox looked like someone who would have high energy and although the older warrior was not opposed to hyper or friendly cats They certainly did not feel in the mood to entertain them especially the longer the pair walked in the freezing weather. But there was something that Flintstorm was not expecting and it was for Swiftfox's presence although a little too energetic for the other warrior's liking was rather persistent and something the older feline could not ignore even when the silver warrior walked in silence with a brisk step. They did not wish to be out here any longer then They needed to be.
A patch of life of the flora variety flashed into view from the corner of Flintstorm's gaze making the lanky feline halt without warning and spin around swiftly not realizing the fact the bangel tom was hot on Their heels. Flintstorm reared back as if They were smacked in the face with Their attempt to stop Themself from smacking face first into the light colored bangel. Whiskers twitching in irritation at the close brush up They tipped their head over Swiftfox's shoulder to the patch seen moments before speaking for the first time during the patrol.
"Kindleflare spoke of this herb; she heard it from the Tribe Healer I think when we were with them. It's called...colts...Lamb's ear. Looks like a weed to me but apparently it grows in the mountains year round. Kindleflare said to make sure to get a good bit of this." the lanky feline mumbled almost to Themself as careful steps were taken towards the clump of dull green. Careful paws worked to dig it up from the stiff and cold ground.
Flintstorm jerked Their head over Their shoulder before adding to Their statement. "Kindleflare said there should be some clumps of dandelions out here too; could always use some of those. Go grab some while I dig this out and we can return to foraging." the slight feline instructed not giving much room to say anything else on Their behalf.
Flintstorm did not like this weather and did not wish to be out here longer than needed so if the pair of them could make this trip as fast as possible the warrior would be in much better mood. Not one to mince words or sugar coat things The nonbinary individual clearly did not care if Swiftfox did as told or agreed with being snipped at; it was cold okay?! Blinking over a slender shoulder the older of the pair glanced over at the bangeled tom and narrowed sharp green eyes at him as they watched. Not particularly to make sure if the tom was following orders but as a self conscious way to gauge the reaction. The pair had not interacted before today so Flintstorm did not know much about Swiftfox; not enough to actually understand the younger tom. But a part of the feline did not wish to be rude to others; it simply came out that way due to what Their twin sister Silverlily often said 'lack of filter on the brain'. The pretty she-cat was always chiding Flintstorm to be a better clan mate by being nicer to others and at least to try to understand their feelings so that no one got offended. The sibling did not understand the need for it but to make her happy They'd bend over backwards for her just to hear praise from her. Perhaps, it was Silverlily's influence of the mind that made Flintstorm blurt out with maybe a little hint of grudging tone.
"Are you handling things okay? We have not spoken before now...It is hard to gauge others reactions after the events of the earthquake and the visit with the Tribe. Where you one of those whom got effected by loss?" claws dug into the earth to gingery rip out the base of the clump of herb; leaving the roots to grow more in moons to come.
Grasping the green clump in between fangs Flintstorm turned to follow Swiftfox where he was working on the dandelions and watched him curiously. Whether to gauge how the questions affected the tom or simple for observation as Flintstorm liked people watching as a way to try and understand emotions that others felt. The feline wondering if such an idea of having a bond of friendship let alone comradery with a clanmate would eventually be cast a light on in Their mind to understand. Always someone who was busy or following duties Flintstorm did not often put brain power into social interactions in understanding even if often enough They were considered rather smart and compassionate in Their quiet own way.
"This is Flint speaking." And this is Flint thinking.
