It was near the end of the day when Snake was standing near the middle of the main cave, watching cats filter back in after a session out in their territory. His eyes eventually fell on Hound.
The Lead Cave Guard's ears very briefly started to tilt backward, before he got control of the motion and adjusted them. This was not the time to act in such a way.
No time was it right to act in such a way. But he did notice that Hound also did not look exactly content with everything that was going on.
Snake suppressed a sigh. Then plucked up his courage and walked in Hound's direction. Once he reached there, he carefully settled himself down and said, "Would it be possible to talk to you? You seem discontent."
He found his heart beating a bit faster than usual, but he tried his best to ignore it, even as he sheathed and unsheathed his claws. This was his clanmate. He couldn't go around treating him like this.

Too many tails,". Hound scowled as he narrowly avoided stepping on yet another clan-cat tail. The she-cat he had nearly offended offered a huff and glare before turning back to chat with a clanmate. Hound had opened his jaw to utter an apology, but at her dismissive reaction, he, too, dismissed the near-altercation. Annoyance rolled off him in waves, not a typical emotion for the large black tom. Indifference was more his speed, but lack of space and reek of clan cats put him even more on edge.

Rounding a row of nests that Clan cats haphazardly claimed, Hound realized his usual napping spot had been overrun. Eyes narrowed, and lip curled. "When is this going to end?" The thought occurred to him, but an inner, soft voice reminded him that it wasn't up to him or even for the Clan cats to decide. They had lost their home, simple as that.

Forgoing the nap, Hound found his center and, with tired paws, decided to leave the cave to seek peace and quiet till his name was called and Snake made themselves noticeable. Hound dipped his head in greeting, ears pinned back at Snake's direct question.

"I'll be alright, just so many cats," He answered, mirroring the elder tom, his attention drifting slowly toward the milling about clan cats. "I can't wait for them to be gone," He confessed, tension present in his broad shoulders and tightnesses of his pinned back ears.

Snake blinked at Hound, looked around the cave, and then nodded. He understood that sentiment very well. Then again, he wasn't sure how best to proceed from there once he'd given that agreement.
After a second of claw tapping on the floor, he looked at Hound again and asked, "Did you want to leave then? Check the border? Maybe they can leave soon."
He was being hopeful. They still had to actually explore the area and find out where they were going to stay, but at least the Tribe could get an idea of when they would be leaving. Or rather, they could at least tell if there was any reason not to. Anything on the border that was dangerous. He wasn't sure if that was actually going to be a good option for them, but he figured it might hit two birds with one stone - and by that he meant maybe he'd actually work up the courage to not be scared.
Yeah.
Like that was going to work.
But he'd thrown it out there anyway, and now was just looking at Hound to see what he thought.
"What do you think?" he asked. Fully prepared to get a negative response.

His brow twitched, head tilting slightly as well. Was Snake inviting him?. It rarely happened, which was of little concern to Hound. He was used to being solo and found bits of pride in the truth that he could handle himself. The invitation couldn't go unanswered, and in the span, it took Snake to prod for his reply, Hound resigned himself to his answer.

"Sure,"

His reply, quiet as it was polite, would easily be considered abnormal. Hound wasn't known for making friends or even spending time with anyone. He existed almost as a loner within his tribe. He wouldn't complain, of course; it was his lot in life.

"Lead the way," He prompted Snake, standing and giving his body a good shake. Being a cave-guard was his life's work and any moment he got to spend actively doing his job soothed him. He was easing away the tension that burdened his shoulders.

This response surprised Snake, but he managed to keep his cool. It wasn't the time to look like he hadn't expected confirmation to do just this.
"Good," he said. A tail tip twitched to betray him, but he rounded around, heading for the entranced of the cave.
There was a light mist outside from the early morning light. It wasn't going to dissipate until the sun was properly up. Snake looked behind him, watching for Hound and expecting him to follow. He wasn't completely sure how this as going to go.
Was he supposed to make conversation?
That had kind of been his intention for inviting Hound after all. He really should have thought this through.
He let his gaze sweep the sky, thinking over what he could say to the other Cave Guard. Then, eventually, he asked, "Soooo ... what is it you usually do when you go off on your own? If you don't mind me asking?"
Then, because he felt like this was going to get into personal territory if he wasn't careful about how he made that sound, "It must be difficult - being a solo Cave Guard doing patrols. Dangerous, even?"
His tone was more curious than accusing or suspicious. He hoped.
