DARKSTONE || BRACKENSTRIDE
TREECLAN
"Brackenstride."
A broad-shouldered dark tabby warrior broke away from the returning dawn patrol, his stride slowing as his target came into view. Brackenstride - the self-centered but charismatic son of Lionstar - looked neither surprised nor confused by Darkstone's approach. They both knew what this was about; they were linked by one cat. Moonpaw. "I was told you would be battle training this sunhigh," Darkstone's raspy voice broke the silence first. Brackenstride's tail flicked, golden eyes narrowing as if to ask and who told you that?
"Yes. We've got the basics down, now comes the hard part." Brackenstride knew what was coming. It was either going to be a critique from his apprentice's own father, or it was going to be a request. Brackenstride didn't know which he disliked more. That he was a new mentor didn't factor into this at all; he wasn't a brilliant tactician or a bloodthirsty brawler, but he did know he wouldn't wreck Moonpaw's chances of becoming a warrior. As far as he was concerned... if you did what you were told and didn't completely suck, getting a warrior name was a sure bet. He'd never seen an apprentice held back from a ceremony due to low performance.
"I want to accompany you. It is important to me and my mate that we see Moonpaw's training firsthand." Darkstone spoke slowly, as if bracing for an immediate pushback from the younger, more fireblooded tom. But it didn't come. Brackenstride didn't even roll his eyes, though his tone carried his annoyance instead. "Fine, but if you start taking over my lesson, we're done here."
Darkstone's ears flicked. Impudent... That agitation was swallowed, and he gave a single curt nod. They would meet at the hidden thicket, then. Brackenstride broke away, signaling the end of the conversation. Darkstone chose to depart early, even as he heard Brackenstride's voice calling into the apprentices' den.
"Moonpaw, time to go. Battle training. If you sleep in, you're running laps to the sparkling brook and back."
TAGGED: Lucense
NOTES: EXTREMELY LATE, I AM SO SORRY
