Rabbitleap

The call to evacuate had come with the entire Clan present. Immediately, cats rushed to gather with their families and loved ones. Rabbitleap only had two cats on his mind, and one was a warrior whom he was confident could take care of herself. It didn’t stop his eyes from seeking out the familiar black pelt, though. He could see Ravenfrost speaking to another she-cat, likely her sister, but all of their attention was focused on each other. Worry for them both twisted in his chest, but he had to trust they’d make it out safe. He had another matter to attend to.
Warm brown eyes cast about the camp, seeking out one lithe form. Once he spotted the grey-brown and white fur, Rabbitleap bunny-hopped over. “Ravenpaw!” he called when he drew near. Once wide yellow-green eyes were locked onto his, Rabbitleap dipped his head slightly. “Ravenpaw, I want you to stick with me, okay? Look, I know this is scary, but here, let’s go get all of your feathers. I’ll help you carry them.” Rabbitleap kept his voice gentle, trying to portray an air of calm even as fear rippled through the Clan. The tabby warrior led the way into the apprentices’ den, scenting out Ravenpaw’s nest. Gingerly, he began sifting through the moss, carefully extracting each precious feather and placing them in a pile to the side.
Once he was certain he’d grabbed the last feather, Rabbitleap turned to the slender apprentice. “Here. You carry this one,” he gently shifted the sleek black raven feather, Ravenpaw’s absolute favorite, towards him, “and I can carry these. Sounds good?” The spotted tabby warrior waited patiently for permission from the young cat before making any move to pick up the feathers. He knew they were precious to Ravenpaw, and didn’t want to intrude more than he already had by digging them from his nest. So he’d wait for permission before picking them up and leading the younger cat to the safety of the mountains.
