Name: Yewgaze
Age: 15 moons
Gender: She-cat
Clan: StoneClan
Rank: Warrior
Picture:
Description: Yewgaze is a smaller cat, lean and a bit short in the leg. She's all too happy to make it very clear that her trim stature, while not likely to be much use in a fight, is just right to make her an excellent hunter. Her fur is uniformly short along her body, except of course on her head and ears where it's thinner. Her eyes, round in shape, are a mix of yellow and green that can appear to be more one color than the other in different levels of light.
Her coat is tan at its base, but she is a true tortoiseshell. A line of black at her forehead trails down and widens as it goes, covering her nose and making it black, before abruptly thinning again in a short dab of black surrounded by white. The black branches out into a marking along her lips on her upper jaw and then is replaced by white. Her lower jaw, chin and throat are all snowy white. One ear is solidly black while the other is mottled, the same mottling that covers the entirety of the rest of her body, right to the puff of fur at the tip of her tail.
Description Summary: Small tortoiseshell she-cat with yellow-green eyes
Personality: Yewgaze is honestly rather typical in personality; she has a few quirks her Clanmates might raise their eyebrows at, but for the most part these are accepted as part of her not being Clanborn and tolerated, since she makes an effort not to make them too obvious. A very down-to-earth sort, Yewgaze has taken after her father and uncle in their non-belief of StarClan, which on its own makes her an oddity in the super-religious Clan, but she has learned not to draw attention by outwardly questioning that belief, keeping her feelings about wishing on stars in the sky to herself. She only believes that what matters is the living; what she can see, touch, hear is realer than dead ancestor cats she's never seen.
Yewgaze hardly remembers her life before StoneClan, and she is firm in her loyalty toward them. This is where she's spent most of her life, and it's where she feels she belongs. The structure of Clan life appeals to her: there is almost always something to do, and she's content in the give and take of Clan life. She does her patrols and hunting and fighting, if necessary, and in return she receives shelter, food and companionship from cats she's known for moons. She feels that despite her roots, she's managed to make a certain place for herself, and having a reliable future is a comfort.
Highly observant, (and more than thrilled to have that affirmed in her name) Yewgaze has trained herself to notice oddities. She's best at reading the body language of those in her Clan, quick to spot signals that indicate anger or sorrow, but she's lately been working on figuring out how to read the language of prey. Noticing clues such as a limp or a stagger in prey that might not be feeling well and may be an easier target. She likes knowing things, and enjoys puzzling out the whys behind things that don't make sense at first. She's never been the type to be content with 'that's just how it is' even though most of the time she has to be- because how it is, is so deeply ingrained into a Clan cat that figuring out the whys would be impossible.
Yewgaze is judging you. It's not your imagination. She delights in amusing herself in picking apart why cats do what they do, another aspect of her observation, and she has no qualms asking questions outright. She'll back off if you snap at her, but rarely deterred for long. If she can't find out what she needs to know from the object of her fascination, she'll turn to others who might be more willing to talk.
She's fond of her brother and looks up to both her father and uncle, but she's not nearly as dependent on them as she used to be, and she also enjoys a bit of distance now and then. Don't smother her and she'll like you just fine- a cat needs space from time to time, after all. She has an independent streak that rears its head from time to time, and she can get stubborn about doing things on her own, without help; proving her worth as a StoneClan warrior.
History: Yew and her brother Bone weren't born in StoneClan- their first two moons were spent far outside of Clan boundaries, within an area called Rook's Hollow. Their mother and father, Adderpool and the StoneClan warrior Tumbleheart, raised them together, and they were cared for and protected within the den. Adderpool might have been quiet and a bit dull where fun was concerned- but their father was more than willing to enter into any game with gusto, and young Yew adored his easy enthusiasm.
She's known, since she could understand, what happened to put an end to that: her mother's death. And suddenly their life in the Hollow came to an end, and the two kits were taken by their father and the uncle they hadn't yet met to StoneClan. They were all but weaned at this point, which made it easier for the queens of the Clan to care for the newcomers, but it was still quite the adjustment for Yew and Bone- Yewkit and Bonekit, now. The little she-cat had never imagined a place like this could exist... but truly, she didn't mind. They were welcoming enough, and she had her brother and father with her still, plus an uncle who was so similar it was confusing trying to figure out who was who at first.
There was plenty to keep Yewkit occupied in the remaining four moons before her becoming an apprentice. She- however unknowingly- had learned observation from her mother, and while she had plenty of moments where she could be just like any other playful kit, she also had times where she would just sit and watch some fascinating scene unfold. She displayed a knack for reading body language and expression, and she had a flair for mimicking whatever she was taught with ease- even if she didn't quite get the meaning behind what she was doing.
She was more than happy to stand before Birdstar and earn her new name, though she was less sure of the pick of mentor; she supposes, looking back, that it could have been worse. Blackclaw wasn't meek, and she pushed, but she was never overly harsh, and the two formed a bond that grew strong as the moons passed.
Their only point of contention was Yewpaw's lack of belief in StarClan; growing up a loner, she'd never had that point of knowledge taught to her from the start, and it wasn't something she could force herself to believe in. She was glad, at least, to know Tumbleheart and Lightningflash felt the same. And in an attempt to get along with her mentor- who she idolized- Yewpaw decided to stop trying to question Blackclaw's beliefs and kept her own thoughts on the subject to herself.
Her apprenticeship passed uneventfully, and she earned her warrior name of Yewgaze. Pride in her achievement carried her through the vigil that night, and her first day of warriorhood was equally uneventful... until the warning Ebonyheart passed on- and the earthquake that shattered the Clan's peace.
