Teller of the Mountain Sky He could see the excitement in the faces of the kits, the three of them sitting in front of him with eyes wide, paws and tails twitching in anticipation. On either side sat Snow and Dusk, and further back the rest of the Tribe looked on. Skyteller met each kit's gaze and then lifted his head to speak. "I have decided that the time is right to add to our ranks. These three kits are ready to take their place among the prey-hunters, who keep us fed, and among the cave-guards, who keep us safe." He looked down on the three again, eyes softening.
"Dawn on Golden Petals, your parentage has given you your slender form and swift sight. As such, I name you a to-be of the prey-hunters, and I entrust your instruction to them. Speckled Leaf in Snow, I place her in your care. You have more than proven your compassion and your skill, and I know you will do your best to watch over Dawn." Quietly, as he'd spoken, Leaf had left the other prey-hunters and taken up her place behind Dawn, a dip of her head accepting the Healer's decision.
"Stone that Blocks Stream," Skyteller continued, turning to the single tom of the litter, "your parentage has given you your strong build and your unwavering determination. As such, I name you a to-be of the cave-guards, and I entrust your instruction to them. Wolf that Howls at Moonhigh, I place him in your care. You have proven your own tenacity, your ability to overcome hardship, and I know you will do your best to watch over Stone." He turned to the last as Wolf settled behind Stone, warm amber eyes meeting Splash's.
"Splash of Leaping Trout, your parentage has given you your devotion toward those you care for, and the ability to protect them. As such, I name you a to-be of the cave-guards, and I entrust your instruction to them. Strut of Ring-Necked Rooster, I place her in your care. I see your similar affection toward kin, all things considered-" and there was certainly a gleam in his eye- "and I know you will do your best to watch over Splash." He waited just until Rooster had taken his place and then rose.
"Let us share our first meal with our new to-bes, and welcome them into the ranks they were born for. I look forward to seeing how far life takes you." Tribe of Forgotten Waters

Strut of Ring-Necked ROOSTER 24 Moons Cave-Guard Tribe of Forgotten Waters Dusk and Snow's kits were becoming to-bes! It was an exciting time for the Tribe, and it filled Rooster with pride knowing that the next generation of prey-hunters and cave-guards were on their way. But it's still my time to shine. He was a young cat, especially compared to the likes of Storm or the Skyteller, and he had no intention of getting upstaged by a clutch of fledglings who barely knew their whiskers from their tails--
"Strut of Ring-Necked Rooster, I place her in your care. I see your similar affection toward kin, all things considered and I know you will do your best to watch over Splash."
Rooster's thoughts tumbled right out of his head like a rockslide, replaced only with a perfect storm of pride, excitement, and the anxious thrill of responsibility now resting on his shoulders. "I won't let you down, sir!" He proclaimed, on all four paws and standing proudly before his newest To-Be. Just like him, her knowledge of cave-guarding would come from the whole group, not just one specific cat, but Rooster couldn't help himself from diving eagerly into the task Skyteller had given him.
No, Skyteller had rewarded him with.
Their leader was acknowledging his talents, and Rooster would rather hurl himself off the highest peak than disappoint him. He couldn't resist a grin at his littermates, wanting them to share in his pride and the pleasure of recognition, jade-green eyes alight. Was it just him or did everything suddenly get better? All his petty grievances and minor grumblings about nest arrangements or Song's obnoxious habit of stealing rocks turned into steam, evaporating into nothingess under the fierce glow of this new task.
"Are you ready to work hard, little fish?" Rooster grinned, showing pearly white teeth as he sized up the she-cat that would one day be a cave-guard. "Are you ready to work until your paws are hard as rocks and you can sense danger faster than a fox can scent a rabbit? Are you ready to protect our Tribe with everything you've got?"
Rooster prodded her squarely in the chest with his ringed tail, eying her intently. He thought he heard a dry cough from Dusk, but it was probably just the tortoiseshell tom choking down a particularly dry piece of prey. Splash of Leaping Trout tribe of forgotten waters Splash of Leaping Trout sat with her eyes fixated on Skyteller, fluffy tail tucked neatly around her awkward, large paws. She could feel Dawn on Golden Petals trembling with nervousness beside her, as though she faced a great eagle rather than their kind, soft-voiced Tribe healer. The background murmur of the gathering Tribe echoed around the cavern, with the sigh of falling water whispering beneath it.
A sharp surge of anticipation filled her from ears to tail tip when Skyteller's golden gaze met hers. She straightened up, offering once long, affectionate glance to both Dusk and Snow as she returned her attention to the regal, lion-like tom that addressed them. "I have decided that the time is right to add to our ranks. These three kits are ready to take their place among the prey-hunters, who keep us fed, and among the cave-guards, who keep us safe." His voice easily travelled across the entire cavern like a roll of distant thunder. "What if he makes me a cave-guard?" Dawn whispered, her voice laced with anxiety. Splash brushed her thick tail down her sister's side. "Skyteller wouldn't make you do anything you didn't want to." She whispered back, but there was a tinge of doubt to her words.
"Dawn on Golden Petals, your parentage has given you your slender form and swift sight. As such, I name you a to-be of the prey-hunters, and I entrust your instruction to them. Speckled Leaf in Snow, I place her in your care. You have more than proven your compassion and your skill, and I know you will do your best to watch over Dawn." Dawn let out a shaky breath as the prey-hunter took her place behind the pale golden she-cat, eyes brimming with relief. Splash purred loudly, placing a small white paw on her sister's quivering toes as a gesture of reassurance.
Next, Skyteller's attention turned towards their brother, and Splash knew immediately that Stone was going to be named a cave-guard. "Stone that Blocks Stream," He began, his voice weighing heavily on those words as though he had given what he was going to say a lot of careful thought. "your parentage has given you your strong build and your unwavering determination. As such, I name you a to-be of the cave-guards, and I entrust your instruction to them. Wolf that Howls at Moonhigh, I place him in your care. You have proven your own tenacity, your ability to overcome hardship, and I know you will do your best to watch over Stone." Wolf was a huge cat that made even Splash want to back away as he strode forward to greet Stone. He had a quietly intimidating presence, like a bear. Splash tried not to twitch as he drew near.
"Splash of Leaping Trout, your parentage has given you your devotion toward those you care for, and the ability to protect them." The hard stone floor of the Tribe's home felt suddenly hot beneath her feet. A voice behind her, Feather, grumpily muttered criticism so quietly she wasn't entirely sure she'd heard it. "Takes more than devotion to make a cave-guard." He scoffed, green eyes narrowing in his trademark scowl. Splash sat up taller, determined not to let anything ruin this for her and her littermates. She kept her gaze fixed on Skyteller, whiskers twitching with the thrill of it all. Nothing would spoil this moment, the moment she'd begin her training and contribute to her Tribe, her family, the cats she had known and loved for her whole short life. "As such, I name you a to-be of the cave-guards, and I entrust your instruction to them. Strut of Ring-Necked Rooster, I place her in your care. I see your similar affection toward kin, all things considered-" Splash's mouth dropped open in a slight gape of surprise. All she had ever heard about Rooster from the irritated complaints of the older cats in the Tribe was that he was that he strutted around with the same inflated confidence as the bird he was named for. He was the last cat she would have expected to be named as her guardian. "-and I know you will do your best to watch over Splash." Splash fixed a calculating gaze on the cat that would be overseeing her training with the cave-guards, trying to judge him for herself rather than believing the grumbled rumours she'd heard. Rooster sprang to his paws with a look of wild excitement and smugness on his face, tail flourishing dramatically. "I won't let you down, sir!" There were some rolled eyes and snickers from among the group, and Splash tilted her head slightly. He seems alright. Why do some cats not like him? She wondered, her eyes gleaming with a newfound sense of adventure. She would become so strong, no eagle would ever be able to touch a Tribe cat again!
Rooster approached her like a prey-hunter approaching a rabbit, sizing her up with an almost playful smirk playing across his features. "Are you ready to work hard, little fish?" He asked, an intensity to his voice that only made her excitement grow. "Are you ready to work until your paws are hard as rocks and you can sense danger faster than a fox can scent a rabbit? Are you ready to protect our Tribe with everything you've got?" The tom prodded her in the chest with his tail, which only made her fur fluff out like a pinecone. She caught that small cough from Dusk, and flicked her tail dismissively at her father as if to say "don't worry". "I'm ready for anything." She meowed, her voice firm and serious, eyes glinting. "When do we start?" I got spirit I got wings I got fire in my lungs 950 Fawn, Taxx Notes @zen for Wolf mention
