Cinderfur had just dropped a squirrel, plump with weight from its efforts to eat as much as possible before leafbare, on the fresh-kill pile; his ears pricked and his head turned as the younger of the medicine cats called his name. The offer to go collect herbs was met with just a fraction of hesitance- he'd hoped to snatch a moment's rest- but that could wait.

"I'd be glad to," he replied, turning toward the entrance and padding through ahead of Shadowchaser. "What are you looking to gather?" He knew little about herbs- that wasn't his place- but it didn't mean he couldn't learn a little bit about them. He knew the basics, made no secret of his curiosity over the herbs used to treat scratches or other ailments: their uses, their appearance.

The air, cold and clean, washed over him as he emerged into the forest and shook out his fur. It was going to get cold, he could tell. Leafbare was on its way- his second, though he'd been an apprentice last time. So much had happened since then.

Shadowchaser

Shadowchaser scanned the encampment for one more set of paws to help gather what he had in mind. His gaze alighted on a black and white apprentice, densely fluffy and fairly quiet compared to the rest of the paw's denmates.

"Hey Badgerpaw, I need your help too!" Shadowchaser signaled the kitten over with a soft wave of his tail, holding it high to make sure he was seen. He liked including the younger members in little tasks like this. He liked to think it was a bit more exciting than changing bedding or fetching prey for the kits and queens. Just a break in routine, which everyone, no matter how diligent they were, could probably benefit from.

Shadowchaser smiled, turning back to Cinderfur. Things had been... awkward, since the truth had come out. But time had a funny way of sweeping things under the proverbial rug. Just as his relationship with Newtstripe was mending into something precious and wholesome again, any awkwardness he felt in Cinderfur's presence had quickly evaporated. The young warrior seemed to be holding steady, despite the tremendous upheaval.

"I want to collect oak leaves. Leaf-fall is the best season to do it. We need them when they're brown and dry, but not too dry." Shadowchaser gently nodded a greeting to the camp guard as he led the small gathering party up the steep hill of NightClan's entrance. "Not hard at all, but the more I can bring back before the weather takes a turn, the better. Most of our stores are still recovering." A touch of worry flitted across Shadowchaser's expressive golden eyes, and he tried not to think of leafbare as something to dread.
