Ebonypaw,
Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams
The heat was getting annoying.
Greenleaf was certainly coming in strong, and even the small amount of wind wasn't easing the feeling. It didn't help that the large she-cat was both black in color and had long fur. Nor did it help the apprentice laying within her den trying to fight off a fever and heal from being attacked days earlier.
The younger healer had spent the earlier part of the day replacing the cobwebs and medicine upon Dawnpaw's wounds. The one in his hind leg was bad and would take some time to heal, and even then there would be a chance that he would have a limp for the rest of his life.
Granted, it wouldn't hinder him from most day to day warrior duties, but Ebonypaw could understand how such a thing could impact confidence and self-esteem at a young age. He was only six moons, a day into his apprenticeship and battling an eagle, and now he was slowly recovering within the Medicine Cat's den.
Unreadable green pools glanced up at the sleeping form of Dawnpaw, his chest rising and falling with each soft snore. Ebonypaw had given him some poppy seeds earlier to help him sleep, it was the best thing for him at the moment. After a moment, the young healer returned her attention to preparing his next dose of medicine.
Sandblaze was snoring softly within his own nest, resting after his long night of checking on Dawnpaw consistently. The young tabby tom had yet to regain his vision, another worrisome problem but something told Ebonypaw that within time it would return. Perhaps it was just her natural instinct as a medicine cat.
"Ebonypaw." The voice of her mother brought the black feline from her thoughts, looking up to see the black and white form of Rabbitfur. The senior warrior had a shrew and two mice dangling from her jaws as she padded near silently towards where her larger offspring sat, herbs spread about her wide paws.
"Mother." The black feline spoke in a proper tone, dipping her head out of respect, in which the elder she-cat copied with a small, amused smirk upon her maw. Setting down the fresh-kill, Rabbitfur lowered her haunches to sit next to her daughter while her own green gaze rested softly on Dawnpaw.
"How is he doing?" She asked in a soft voice, not wanting to disturb either tom that slept within the den that smelt of herbs.
"He'll live." Ebonypaw stated after a moment, giving up on working on her herbs for just a moment as she lowered her own haunches to sit with her mother. "His leg seems to be healing fairly well. No sign of infection and he has yet to get a fever." Yet. This heat was not helping that factor, Ebonypaw was constantly getting wet moss balls brought to him.
"And his eyes?" By now the whole clan knew about the incident, and about Dawnpaw's ailments that came from it. Paintedpaw and Poppypaw were often checking in on their brother, and Dustclaw would stop by at least one a day but the younger healer tried to keep their visits short.
Her patient needed rest and not stimulation.
Sandblaze tried to give a neutral option on Dawnpaw's sight, and it was hard to say what would happen anyways, but, "I think he will see again. He just needs to continue healing and resting." She didn't know what made her so confident about that fact, but something was telling her it was fine.
"Starclan picked a good Medicine Cat, and Sandblaze has a good apprentice." Rabbitfur said after a moment, turning her green gaze onto the larger stature of Ebonypaw. The black and white senior warrior didn't often show affection, and it was rare for her to do it with other cats around. Even if they were sleeping.
It caused a swell of pride to wriggle beneath Ebonypaw's long coat, a flicker of appreciation quickly ran through her green gaze before it fell back into an unreadable fog. "I'm just doing what i'm suppose to." Ebonypaw said, trying to sound proper and reasonable.
"Oh, my little bunny, you may have the attitude of a grouchy old badger, but you have always had a good heart." Rabbitfur said with amusement and affection before it too slid from her face as she stood up, needing to return to her duties as a warrior. As much as she wanted, she couldn't sit and chat with her daughter all day.
"Make sure you eat, I brought you a shrew." Rabbitfur said before dipping her head and making her way out of the Medicine Cat den. The last thing Ebonypaw saw was the black tip of her tail disappearing out of sight before she returned her attention to the tabby form of Dawnpaw.
He could sleep a bit longer before she disturbed his rest to reapply his salve. Reaching out with a wide paw, the black feline hooked the warm body of the shrew and brought it towards her, stomach growling at the delicious scent.
