Lionstar
The crown is getting heavy
But they've written my name in the stars
But they've written my name in the stars
The bramble thicket acted as an insulator, keeping the chilliness of leafbare from seeping out into the forest. When Lionstar pressed through the twisting branches, his breath fogged in thin puffs ahead of his whiskers, the ground under paw damp from snowmelt. Newleaf had come to the forest, and with the absence of snow, Lionstar could no longer put off the one area of Lilypaw’s training he was the most unsure of. While being the most crucial, the golden tom had a bevy of defensive maneuvers to teach her - but they were not tailored to a cat that could not see.
This would be as much trial and error for him as it was for her.
She needs to be able to defend herself. They had enemies on all sides, and NightClan would not hesitate just because Lilypaw was blind. It was his duty as her mentor, her Clan leader, her father, to see to it that she was prepared as she could possibly be.
”We’re here, Lionstar!” A soft voice called from the outside of the thicket. Lionstar turned in time to see Fawnspring slipping in under the brambles, her tail stretched out behind her to give Lilypaw a guide through the netted twigs trying to catch in her short pale coat.
Lionstar greeted them both warmly; he would not be fighting Lilypaw himself. It was better that he instruct from the sidelines and allow her to fight an opponent closer to her own size. Fawnspring was by no means a champion, but she was a dutiful young warrioress who made up for her shortcomings with sheer effort and diligence. A good first opponent for Lilypaw.
”Welcome, welcome. Lilypaw, I want you to stand close to me. Fawnspring, you will stand opposite Lilypaw.” As he directed Fawnspring with a flick of the tail, his voice was focused towards Lilypaw. ”We’ll start with the basics, once we have your defensive stance down, then a little sparing match can begin. Are you ready?”
This would be much different than the raucus tumbling inside the nursery with Ivykit and Brackenkit. What was just playing and copycatting of the warriors around camp would be a serious affair here, in the hidden thicket. This was training. Training that could one day save her life.
I've been building up all these kingdoms for so long
It's good to be king
