With a soft laugh, the ginger and white medicine cat stepped out of Falconstorm's den, and into the open of an unfamiliar place. She stuck out like a sore thumb in TreeClan's sheltered enclosure, her dark ginger fur doing little to mask the sleek form so typical of her Clan. White paws side stepped a stray branch awkwardly, her tail still waving goodbye to Falconstorm. Dark amber eyes blinked slightly as though the tangled mass of tree limb has surprised her, but she shook it off after a moment. Straightening herself slightly, she glanced about in search of the exit.
It was time for she return to LightningClan, for Tigerpaw would certainly begin to fret if she stayed away much later. Weaving among cats casting her puzzled glances, the LightningClan healer parted her jaws to pull in the scent of something that wasn't TreeClan. It was less so she didn't like TreeClan's scent; she didn't mind it. She was just unaccustomed to and a little uneasy at being completely surrounded by something so distinctly not home. She could use the fresh air, just to clear her head. It was this thought that had her pushing a little bit faster to excuse herself from TreeClan's premises.
In her haste, she proved distracted, for the ginger coated healer turned a corner too quickly and nearly careened into a young TreeClan warrioress. With a startled squeak, Kindleflare reared back and promptly plopped into a sit to avoid crashing into the unsuspecting TreeClanner. "O-Oh h-heavens, I'm s-so s-sorry, I r-really d-do need to w-watch where I-I'm going! I w-was t-trying to g-get out of T-TreeClan's f-fur, and have e-ended up r-rather t-tangled in y-yours, h-haven't I?" She quipped, ears flattened in embarrassment as she hauled herself out of the awkward sprawling sit.
Adopting a sudden and worried tilt to her head, she let her deep amber eyes flick over the TreeClan she-cat. "I-I h-haven't c-caused y-you any h-harm, have I? S-StarClan a-above, I w-would never forgive m-myself i-if I inconvenienced y-you like that!" She tutted to herself, eyes almost desperate as she searched for an answer. A realization struck her then, and she shook her head. "G-Goodness.. Wh-Where are my m-manners? I'm K-Kindleflare, L-LightningClan's medicine c-cat. I was v-visiting F-Falconstorm b-before I... W-Well, before I n-nearly r-ran nose f-first right i-into you." She commented with a laugh bordering on nervous. Y-You're g-getting o-old, Kindleflare. She sighed mentally to herself, unsure just where the barrage of words had come from. |

Fawnspring 34 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLANFawnspring had trotted back to camp, pleased over the plump vole she'd just caught by the sparkling brook. It wasn't common to find prey animals so close to camp - ones still breathing, that is - but Fawnspring had been at the right place at the right time.
Well, almost.
Without warning an orange blur appeared in Fawnspring's direct line of sight; small gray-beige paws scrambled for a hasty stop, but it was too late. The two she-cats collided, and the loud squeak made Fawnspring drop the vole in a mixture of surprise and horror. For a split second, she'd gawked at it as though it had come back to life, half expecting it to run away.
But the squeak had come from Kindleflare, not the vole.
Convincing her short fur to lie flat again with a nervy laugh, Fawnspring waved her tail, quickly trying to console the flustered healer. "I know who you are," she beamed, resisting the urge to rub her nose where Kindleflare had bumped her. "I've seen you at gatherings, that is. Though we've never spoken before now. I'm Fawnspring, sister to Amberwing and daughter to Moonfeather, if you've met them."
The medicine cat's heavy stutter was rough to Fawnspring's ears, so used to the smooth speech patterns of her Clanmates, but she forced herself to stay polite, both in her thoughts and in her posture. I'm sure us crashing into each other is making it worse. Kindleflare was plenty of moons her senior, but the healer seemed genuinely apologetic over the whole ordeal. Had it been someone else, Fawnspring may not have been so quick to smile and laugh it off - but Kindleflare seemed kind, and reminded her of Falconstorm, even if it was in job description only.
"No harm done, really. May I walk you to the border?" It seemed like the polite, well-mannered thing to do. As far as she could tell, Kindleflare had come here without any warrior escorts - or had left them waiting at the open woods. The medicine cat was safe here, but courtesy was courtesy. Besides, thought Fawnspring with a small spark of delight, maybe I'll have a good story to tell Thornheart and Finchcloud later. Ears flicked up in surprise and her pelt warmed as the she-cat before her indicated she knew just who Kindleflare was. It shouldn't have been too much of a surprise, considering her rank, yet... Kindleflare had always considered herself a little... Transparent, forgettable. And yet, here was a she-cat who did remember her. Pushing the stunned thoughts from her mind, she focused on what the petite she-cat said afterward, just managing to catch her name. With a gentle purr, she smiled. "I-It's a pleasure t-to meet you F-Fawnspring. W-What a l-lovely n-name too!" She decided to keep the fact that she wasn't very good with names or meeting others to herself; the two names offered by Fawnspring were unfortunately not recognizable to her.
Ears pricked forward in alarm at what Fawnspring offered next. With a nervous flick of her tail, the ginger and white medicine cat forced herself to dip her muzzle in a nod. "T-That would be v-very kind of y-you. I am n-not so w-well versed in n-navigating your territory. F-Falconstorm v-visits m-me f-far more o-often than I v-visit h-him." She admitted. Her nervousness was not because she didn't want Fawnspring to accompany her. It was more the fact she'd never expected someone to offer such a courtesy.
Fawnspring seemed kind enough, however, and the ginger and white healer clung to the idea that the petite she-cat may prove to be wonderful company yet. A quick glance down reminded her of the vole she'd caused the warrioress to drop. "B-But y-you should d-deposit that f-first! D-Don't w-want it t-to get ruined a-any more th-than I've a-already caused i-it to." The admission triggered another flare of warmth that rippled through her, and she ducked her head in embarrassment. Clearing her throat softly, she looked up and took in her surroundings. Side stepping to keep herself out of the way, she offered a shaky smile. "I-I'll w-wait her f-for you?" |

Fawnspring 34 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLANKindleflare's bashful response endeared Fawnspring to her, the smaller of the two she-cats beginning to purr in the hopes it might soothe the healer's frazzled state. "It's no trouble at all! I rarely get to meet cats from other Clans outside of the Gathering. I'll be right back to drop off the vole, then we can go."
Kindleflare seemed content to wait for her, and Fawnspring hastily snatched up her fresh kill to slip into camp with it. The fresh kill pile was half it's usual size, evidence that the kits and queens and elders had likely eaten already. Fawnspring deposited her catch where it would be easy to find, then searched for the nearest camp guard.
To her delight, that guard was none other than Thornheart.
With a mirthful laugh and a smoothly waving tail, Fawnspring brushed her pelt against her best friend's thick tabby coat, standing in his shadow as if she had always been there. "Guess what I'm about to do?" Green eyes were twinkling, the note of pride in her voice unmistakable. Alright, so I'm gloating a little. Is that such a bad thing? "I'm walking Kindleflare back to the LightningClan border. I don't want to keep her waiting!"
Fawnspring bounced forward, light and springy on her paws as if her energy had been renewed. "Think you can keep an eye on the camp while I'm gone, Mister Big Tough Guard? It's too bad you can't come with me." She wouldn't mind Thornheart's company - she never did - and perhaps Kindleflare would be grateful for the additional protection. Thornheart was nothing if not a giant, by Fawnspring's standards, and she always felt safer when he was around.
Not to say she wasn't a true warrior, of course. The thought of a scuffle with a predator made her uneasy, but Fawnspring reminded herself that this was something she could handle; Maplebrook and Skyfall had made sure of that. Besides, a walk to the open woods should be mundane. Boring, even. Bright-eyed and eager for this fresh change of pace, Fawnspring glanced past the ancient stump, picturing Kindleflare, tail nervously flicking, waiting for her to return. SOME LEGENDS ARE TOLD, SOME TURN TO DUST OR TO GOLDThoRnHeaRt 33 Moons || Tom || TreeClan The afternoon had passed rather uneventfully thus far for the large tabby tom, which he supposed was technically a good thing. From his perch as camp guard, amber eyes passed lazily over the denizens of TreeClan, watching as they went about their mundane lives. He couldn't help but wish for a little bit of excitement, just something to capture his attention. It was as this thought floated through his mind that, like a gift sent from StarClan, someone brushed up against his flank, soft fur mingling with his as a musical laugh graced the brown ears atop his head.
Purring almost instinctively at her presence, Thornheart tilted his head to locate the petite she-cat next to him. His amber gaze glinted with a playfulness that matched hers as she oh-so-obviously gloated to him about her recently adopted task. Narrowing his eyes slightly, the big tabby stood, thick furred tail sweeping thoughtfully behind him. "Keep an eye on the camp?" He scoffed, his voice still thick with his amused purr. "Nah, I now've got a much more important task at my paws. Someone has ta make sure you stay safe while completin' your very important mission. don't they?" With an easy going flash of his trademark grin, Thornheart pressed his shoulder to hers and used his tail to corral her forward.
A quick glance one way caught sight of one of his mother's best friends. "Feathercloud!" He called to the silver she-cat, earning a flick of an ear and a curious tilt of a head as the senior warrioress trotted in their direction. He couldn't place the look in her eye as she glanced over the two, and he could have sworn he caught her stifling a smile. "Thornheart, Fawnspring." The pretty she-cat greeted them happily, her feathery tail arching above her back as she approached. "What's up?"
Forgetting about his questions concerning the look she'd given them, the big tabby glanced back and Fawnspring and his grin seemed to brighten immediately. "Fawnspring's walkin' the LightningClan medicine cat back to the border, and I've gotta make sure she gets there okay. Do ya mind takin' my camp guard spot fer a little? It'd just be 'til I got back, 'course." With another amused glance, the silvery she-cat agreed, and the brown tabby ushered his best friend off toward the camp entrance, thanking Feathercloud for her trouble as he did. BUT YOU WILL REMEMBER ME FOR CENTURIES ~350 words @tag Mai boiii <3Dark amber eyes roamed over her strange surroundings, taking in the thick bark walls that protected TreeClan from the outside world. It was so different to her LightningClan home, she couldn't help but wonder how TreeClan never quite felt...Trapped. Maybe being surrounded by so many trees all the time helped ease any sense of claustrophobia. After all, the real puzzle was NightClan. Sure, LightningClan had recently begun exploring tunnel navigation as a form of hunting and ambush, but... Kindleflare had never liked the tunnels. NightClan, meanwhile, lived in an underground cavern. It baffled her completely; she'd take the moorlands over that any day.
Approaching pawsteps drew her patient gaze to the arrival of Fawnspring, noting with brief alarm that the petite she-cat was no longer alone. At her side, fur mingling unabashedly with hers, was a big brown tabby tom, lopsided grin painted on his features as his full attention remained on Fawnspring. It wasn't until Fawnspring looked her way and introduced him to the LightningClan medicine cat that he seemed to notice she was there. As the petite she-cat explained that this tom, whom she introduced as Thornheart, would also escort them to the border, his bright amber gaze met hers and his smile changed to a friendly but polite one.
"Nice ta meet you, Kindeflare. Hope ya don't mind my joinin' ya. Only here ta make sure you get on home safely! TreeClan prides itself on safe guest arrivals and departures, ain't that right, Fawnsoring?" The purr in his voice was unmistakable, and it even managed to draw a soft one from her as she watched the two interact. Clearing her throat softly, the ginger and white medicine cat rose to her paws. "N-No p-problem at a-all. Th-The m-more, the m-merrier." She responded, dipping her head in a delayed greeting to the big tabby tom.
It didn't take long for the three to begin their journey, the timid medicine cat letting the two TreeClanners take the lead. Falling into step next to yet slightly behind Fawnsrpring, she couldn't help but marvel at the way the pair moved. Despite being quite a fait bit larger, with a stride that could overtake hers easily, Thornheart's gait matched Fawnspring's perfectly, the pair seeming to move as one. Curiosity got the best of her then, the LightningClan healer unable to withhold her question. So, with a pleasant smile and a warmth in her heart at the sight of the pair, she asked.
"P-Pardon my i-intrusion, but I j-just have to a-ask. A-Are you t-two m-mates?" |

Fawnspring 34 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLANFawnspring greeted Feathercloud with a warm smile of her own, but admittedly her thoughts were on Kindleflare - and as soon as Thornheart gained confirmation that Feathercloud would willingly take his place, Fawnspring was lightly bounding away, spry as her namesake.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, had to bring this goofball along." Fawnspring chirped to the ginger healer, swatting Thornheart's shoulder with a slender beige and gray-brown tipped tail. The big tom was always right by her side, something she had adjusted to naturally; it made for a comfortable walking pace, Thornheart having adjusted his ridiculously large stride so that her petite form could actually keep up.
When Finchcloud and Thornheart were together, however, Fawnspring often found herself a little breathless, taking an extra two pawsteps for just one of theirs.
Fawnspring took the lead, steering their little group of three towards the open woods, already envisioning the thinning woodlands and the far verdant moors of LightningClan. It was something she enjoyed doing - climbing a tall tree and watching the distant corners of the world, these little pockets of life Fawnspring would never be able to know. It saddened her just a little.
After her mother's stories, of Bramblebrush and Moonfeather living a life uncharted and unhindered by boundary lines, Fawnspring couldn't help but wonder...
"P-Pardon my i-intrusion, but I j-just have to a-ask. A-Are you t-two m-mates?"
Huh? Fawnspring's jaw fell open like a fish's, eyes large and staring. "What? Why would we be mates?" That didn't make any sense, Thornheart was her best friend! They'd grown up together. He was like a... brother to her. Maybe even more than Aspenfire, now. Fawnspring suppressed a wince. Right?
Fawnspring forced a laugh, flustered. "Me and Thornheart? No way! We're the best of friends, that's all. Right big guy?" The little she-cat bumped her shoulder against the enormous tabby's leg, half-frustrated that she could not force her heart to calm down. Why did that shock me so much? It was just a silly, innocent question.
And she'd put that question to rest, dusted her paws of it.
Right... ?
Green eyes sought Thornheart's, Fawnspring expecting him to back her up. A coil of apprehension sat inside her gut like a stomachache, the she-cat half afraid of what he might say. There was nothing more going on between them, Kindleflare was a LightningClan cat and didn't know. That's all.
That's all. As we soared above the town that never loved me I realized I finally had a family ❋ 396 Words ❋ BlooRey DVD ❋ Notes

By the reaction she received to her seemingly innocent question, you would have thought Kindleflare had asked whether the pair had put thorns in the bedding of every nest in camp. Fawnspring seemed to nearly leap out of her fur, and Thornheart's large-pawed and confident stride faltered immediately. Barely managing to keep himself standing, the thick-furred tabby tom gaped at the medicine cat momentarily, before his bright amber eyes flashed to Fawnspring as though the petite she-cat might be able to shine some light on that situation. When the warrioress did answer, she gave an answer that did little to convince Kindleflare.
And it didn't seem to convince to two of them much either. Thornheart cleared his throat, ducking his head to flatten his chest fur as though it were paramount in that moment, before rasping out his own reply. "Yeah, Fawnspring's just my best friend, ain't no one in the world who's a better friend ta me. Can't be mates if you're best friends, right? Wouldn't wanna risk what we got either, ain't that right, Fawnspring?" Dark amber eyes blinked slowly as the tom chuckled, though the sound was distinctly different than his previous one.
Now, Kindleflare had never been an expert on relationships and love, what with being a medicine cat and all that. But from what she'd seen of her parents, the way they'd looked at each other... Fawnspring and Thornheart were essentially the embodiment of what she saw. Completely wrapped up in one another, so much so that they didn't even realize it. She opened her mouth as though to say something, one paw raised curiously and a doubtful glint in her eyes. ...Until she remembered that these two were not of LightningClan, they had not asked for her help. With a soft clearing of her own throat, she flashed a sheepish smile.
"O-Oh, of c-course! M-My apologies! I m-must have m-mistaken your f-friendship for s-something m-more. You t-two are r-remarkably c-close, it t-truly is l-lovely to see." She mewed, adding a soft purr at the end of her sentence. Although she could still identify the direction she'd arrived earlier that day, she thought it best to divert the conversation someplace else, lest she further embarrass the young cats. "F-Fawnspring, I c-can never r-remember... Wh-What's the qu-quickest way t-to get t-to the b-border from h-here? I-I've n-never been g-great with directions, I-I'm afraid."
Ah, young love. She just hoped they figured it out before it was too late. |

Fawnspring 34 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLANFawnspring latched onto Kindleflare's question as if it were a clear path through a thicket of needle-sharp thorns. "R-Right, it's, ah, this way." A beige tail swayed promptly to the left, before the she-cat's heart sank with dismay. No, that was towards the Deer Path, not the Open Woods. "Sorry, I meant that way." She corrected, forcing her words to sound steady and certain as a river.
Had Kindleflare really flustered her that much? Oh my stars, why is my heart beating so fast? It was just like Thornheart said. They were friends. They... wouldn't want to risk what they had. Fawnspring's brain, her treacherous, overanalytical brain latched onto something Thornheart had said.
'Wouldn't wanna risk what we got either, ain't that right, Fawnspring?'
Does that mean he feels something... more? Does that mean he's thought about it? These thoughts built upon themselves, each one topping the other in importance until she felt as if the question might burst out of her mouth before she could stop it. Her mind's eye was imaginative and all too willing to torture her with a myriad of what if's. What if she and Thornheart were mates? What would that be like?
Just the same, weedled a voice in her head.
Different, but better! said another.
Fawnspring's thoughts leaped onto Silentsong and Zephyrfang, picturing their faces clearly. Silentsong, the quiet beauty with her bright tortoiseshell markings, and Zephyrfang, as handsome as he was opinionated. She saw the look Zephyrfang gave Silentsong every day; every cat in TreeClan had. Something inside the petite she-cat's stomach panged, a hollow gong of longing.
What would it be like to have someone look at her that way? What would it be like to have Thornheart look at her that way? Stop it, you're being silly. It's just like he said. Why ruin a wonderful, amazing friendship over... over... something more?
Her desynchronized thoughts were mimicked in her movements, Fawnspring falling out of pace with Thornheart as if his presence had thrown her whole equilibrium off. Frustrated with herself, Fawnspring quickly skipped ahead, forcing herself to talk to regain a sense of normalcy. "Do you have any littermates, Kindleflare? I've been to a few gatherings, but no one really goes out of their way to introduce themselves. At least not to me." Her smile was fleeting, though warm. "If I had a medicine cat for a sibling, I'd probably have to stop myself from bragging." Better to brag than suffer from crippling insecurity.
Comparison was the thief of joy, it was true. Fawnspring had already had plenty of moments of stolen self-confidence as Amberwing continued to outpace her in every area. As we soared above the town that never loved me I realized I finally had a family ❋ 441 Words ❋ BlooRey DVD ❋ Notes
