Skychaser 48 Moons - Rainclan Warrior
This wasn't the first time the snowy white tomcat finished off an apprentice's training. Back when his younger sister, Ivoryrose, had been just a 'paw he had finished the second half of her apprenticeship, aiding her in gaining her warrior name. Aside from that, he had also aided in two full mentor-apprentice pairs, so the white warrior was well equipped to train another young mind. It was something he rather enjoyed as well, passing on both Timberstar and Larkwing's wisdom.
Even if that young mind happened to be a bit on the brazen side.
Duel colored pools were clear and light as the alabaster warrior made his way across the clearing of Rainclan's camp. While the heat didn't exhaust him as his coat was fairly short and thin, the sun caused more problems from how pale his fur was. Skychaser had roused Wasp-paw from his slumber, the morning sun already giving off enough heat to be slightly uncomfortable. They would be hunting today, but not in the traditional Rainclan aspect. The multicolored eyed tom would be testing the golden and black apprentice on his land skills, hopefully some voles or mice would be out and about today.
Pausing at the entrance to the camp, Skychaser turned his head to let blue and green orbs watch his apprentice approach. "Since it seems like today will be hot, why don't we make training a game." A glitter of amusement softly filled the laid back tom's eyes, his voice just as soft and rumbling as ever. Learning to be a warrior, while difficult, didn't mean it always had to be boring and mundane. "We'll be hunting, over by the wooden cove. So no water prey today."
While Rainclan mostly fed off of the food from the river, they also took the occasional land prey when it was presented. No need to starve themselves just because it wasn't trout or minnow. Of course, the Rainclanners who didn't enjoy water as much as the others also brought back a healthy number of land dwelling critters.
"I know you've learned and practiced crouching and land hunting techniques so lets put it to good use." Skychaser continued at his comfortable pace, taking the lead as the two tomcats made their way out into Rainclan's drying territory. The scent of rain hung low on the breeze as the humidity rose around them. "I want to see how much prey you can catch before the sun reaches the top of the sky, I'll be sure to mention how good you do to Silverstar." Bribery? Possibly, but when dealing with such a high tempered apprentice sometimes things had to be altered in a way to fit their fiery personality.

Wasp-paw opened his eyes with a huff after his new mentor, Skychaser, had woken him up. Wonderful. Another mentor to scare off. The young apprentice, while he would never admit it, rather liked annoying Storkleg. His old mentor must not have appreciated him quite as much. That seemed to be the usual with Wasp-paw's relationships however, his only truly constant one being with his mother.
The ruddy bengal sleepily rose from his nest, padding along outside to follow his mentor. The moment he exited the Apprentice Den, Wasp-paw felt the heat of the sun already boring down on him. He would be very excited to get into the water today for a swim. His ears piqued at Skychaser's mention of a game, but his excited expression turned to mortification when his mentor explained that Wasp-paw's hunting for the day would be on land. "In this heat? You trying to kill me?" The young feline rolled his eyes and began to zone out of his mentor's words, but he refocused once he heard Silverstar's name mentioned. A chance to impress the leader with his hunting skills? Wasp-paw liked the sound of that. His blue eyes filled with a fire. He hated the idea of overheating on dry land, but nothing could stop him once his competitive spirit had been roused.
"This will be easy," Wasp-paw retorted, unable to contain his excitement for Skychaser's game. Almost immediately after speaking, Wasp-paw ran a few feet away and scrambled clumsily up into a lone tree. As the leaves rustled in response to his climb, a few birds fluttered away from the branches. Wasp-paw cursed to himself, realizing he had just lost prey that could have gone to Rainclan.
Re-orienting himself, Wasp-paw stayed silent and still on a low branch, opening his mouth to taste for the scent of prey. Just like that, he smelled something alive that was definitely not a cat. Wasp-paw scanned the ground with narrowed eyes until he saw it: a rather large squirrel almost directly below him. Without thinking, Wasp-paw dropped down from the overhanging branch onto the squirrel, landing on it with a deafening crack. The young feline didn't even have to bite into the poor creature to kill it, as the shock of his landing killed it immediately. Wasp-paw turned to look at his mentor, hoping that Skychaser would be impressed by his non-protocol killing of the squirrel. But this wasn't enough. Wasp-paw had to get a lot of prey if he wanted to make Silverstar proud.
The young bengal dropped down to the ground, making his already small form even smaller as he listened for more prey. A light scratching noise caught his attention, and he slowly began to walk towards the source of the noise. At last he came upon it, or rather, them: three mice were scuffling about, looking for food. Again, Wasp-paw moved without thinking, leaping at the mice with a loud grunt, landing on one but scaring the other two off. After delivering the killing bite to his catch, Wasp-paw huffed in frustration: he had targeted the smallest of the mice. He brought the mouse over to where he had left the squirrel, already pouting in his stupid failure. "No point in being Rainclan if we eat mice," he mumbled grumpily, "Might as well be called Mouseclan."

Skychaser 48 Moons - Rainclan Warrior
It's not like there were a lot of places where the alabaster tomcat could hide while his apprentice hunted throughout the reedbeds and sandbars of Rainclan's territory. It seemed that both the challange and offer to speak to their leader increased not only the tempermental apprentice's mood, but also his energy towards actually doing work that he wasn't use too. Fishing was a normalcy within the clan, something that even he himself was good at, but all cats within the clan among the river should be gifted with the ability to hunt land prey just in-case.
Multiple skills were essential to being a good warrior.
Flickering his tail, the white tomcat kept out of side, keeping his bright pelt away from where his apprentice might be hunting for unsuspecting prey. He didn't miss either catch, though horribly sloppy and incorrect posturing Wasp-paw managed two smaller rodents. An ear flickered as the warrior slipped closer, quiet as a mouse from year of learning to stalk and hunt alongside his clanmates... Not to mention the need to hide from purists and their ambushes when he was younger.
The though caused the tom to pause slightly before he pushed away the terrible memories that were associated with his young and that of the Rainclan Civil War.
Sneaking up on the young Bengal apprentice, Skychaser parted his maw to speak. "Despite being called Rainclan we don't eat rain ether." His tone was stern but still held that deep, soft and patient under-rasp. Duel eyes were full of wisdom as green and blue stared down at Wasp-paw's smaller form with an unreadable expression. "Do not dismiss land prey simply because we are Rainclan, any prey that feeds this clan is needed and appreciated, whether land or river." Another lesson within the lesson.
Wasp-paw had little respect for things, that was well documented, hopefully under Skychaser's tutelage and wisdom he could shape the brazen tom into a well rounded warrior of Rainclan. If not, then Silverstar might have something more to say in regards to the disrespectful apprentice and his attitude towards things. However, the white warrior wasn't nearly as concerned as the future as he was with this current hunting session. Which, despite the prey caught, it wasn't going nearly as well as it should.
"You are being loud and clumsy when you hunt. Remember, just as the fish can see your reflection, the land prey can hear you, smell you and feel you. Lumbering around like a badger with thorns in it's paws isn't going to get you anywhere fast. These last two catches were pure luck, especially with the fact that you nearly squished that mouse into oblivion." Harsh? Possibly, but Skychaser knew that being gentle on Wasp-paw would ail no results. He had to challenge the youngster to do better, it was simply the way to train such a fiery cat with the perception that he could do no wrong, or that he was invisible and knew everything.

Wasp-paw grumbled at his mentor's criticism, but deep down, the apprentice knew that Skychaser had a point. Grumbling so as not to seem like he cared too much for what the white-furred tom had to say, Wasp-paw took the advice to heart. Quiet and still, quiet and still.
The young bengal crouched down with a renewed vigor, pressing his ears to his head so as to make himself as small as possible. Just like that, the apprentice almost disappeared into the earth, his bengal coloration only further camouflaging him. The noises of small animals slowly began to repopulate the setting, and Wasp-paw smirked. They had no idea what was coming for them.
A loud chattering noise caused Wasp-paw to ever so slightly move his head to the right. He crept closer and closer to the sound until he was very close to the source: a large squirrel chipping away at some food. Wasp-paw narrowed his eyes and took a moment, waiting until it had turned its back towards him and then...Pounce! The squirrel didn't even have a chance to squeal before the bengal tom had bitten into its neck and killed it. Perfect.
The silent killing of the squirrel had not alerted any of the other prey animals, so the noises continued full-force. Wasp-paw opened his mouth, tasting the air for something. The zoned-in apprentice continued to find prey, listen, and watch for every right moment. It was as if a switch had been flipped, turning Wasp-paw into a potent hunter. He had gone from two sloppy kills to three decent ones.
Wasp-paw barely even noticed when the sun crept up to sun-high, only becoming aware of it as he looked up from his final kill: a medium-sized mouse. Wasp-paw felt an immense sense of pride, smiling softly to himself and basking in his victory. He took his fifth and final kill over to the pile that had been congregating by Skychaser, unable to contain his own excitement.
Dropping the mouse onto the pile, Wasp-paw looked up at his mentor, his eyes beaming. He opened his mouth to say something, and then closed it, rather puzzled, for he did not have anything rude to say to Skychaser. The bengal tom was genuinely confused that he only had feelings of gratitude towards the older tom, and he had no idea how to correctly express them. "The advice. It was alright, I guess." He struggled for a moment. "Y-you're a good mentor."

Skychaser 48 Moons - Rainclan Warrior
The sleek white tom was pleased with the progress shown within such a short amount of time. Wasp-paw was a smart cat, but his feisty personality and quick temper made it hard to co-exist easily with others. He merely needed a cat who was mellow, who could level out his impulses and teach towards his benefit rather than setting him up for failure. With just a simple adjustment to the way he clambered about, the young Bengal had managed to snag several delicious pieces of fresh-kill.
Rainclan wouldn't go hungry tonight, especially if the other hunting patrols managed to snag other prey throughout the day.
A ripple of amusement passed through the bi-colored pools of the alabaster feline at his apprentice's moment of fluster when showing gratitude. It wasn't much, but it was the start of forming respect, something the younger tom desperately needed. It would come in time, just as wisdom and patience did with age. Wasp-paw was still young and had more time to grow and mature. The warrior flicked his tail towards the small pile of rodents that the golden and black tomcat, pulling his apprentice's attention towards it.
"Thank you, I do like to think I am a good mentor." Skychaser's tone was soft and full of amusement before it fell into a more serious, teaching tone. "However, I only told you what you needed to know. You did a marvelous job listening and maneuvering, you should be proud of what you accomplished today." In time, Skychaser was sure that the younger tom would become a well valued, strong member of Rainclan, he just had to get through his young, rebellious stage.
A stage that the alabaster tom didn't go through, nor did he have the freedom to do so. The warrior had grown up within the midst of a deadly, blood Civil War in which he had watched his clanmates rip each other apart due to bloodlines. His purest parents had abandoned him when he refused to follow their ways, leaving him with the teachings of Larkwing and Timberstar. Whom he both lost at the end of that dark time. Skychaser had been forced to mature at a very young age, and with the looming war between Treeclan and Nightclan....
The white tom hoped his apprentice wouldn't have to be forced to grow up too soon.
Shaking the thoughts from his head, the wise tom once again flickered her long tail but this time toward the direction of the camp. "Carry as many of those as you can, I'll follow you with the rest of them. Make sure you take a few to the nursery, and one to Silverstar." Skychaser said as an order, those duel colored pools flickering ever so slightly. It wasn't that long ago that the leader had instilled the drop of fear within the young Bengal for his outburst during a clan meeting. It was only right for the youngster to offer a share of his prey to the leader of the clan.
"And then you can take a piece for yourself, you earned it today. Good work, Wasp-paw." Skychaser said after a moment, the light of pride shimmering within green and blue eyes as he watched Wasp-paw near him.
"Out of the darkness, each breath that I take will be mine"
