FIRESTAR leader of lightningclan
Strange how one of the most important days of her life started out like any other. She woke to the persistent long that came with the absence of Russetfall. Devoured a small mouse more out of need as opposed to desire. Her appetite had gotten better but nowhere near where it should be, she wondered briefly if the change in her rank would make worsen her condition. Deciding it wasn't worth the effort to fuss over and instead left her den and headed for a walk. She instructed a passing apprentice on her way out to strip the den clean. She felt it was better for Redscar to start fresh. No lingering scents in the den that would soon be his.
Heading for a small hill near the camp, her paws felt heavy the moment she finished climbing it. A bittersweet feeling of content settled in the bit of her stomach. Dread lingering on the edges. Her entire life had been built upon becoming LightningClan's leader. The success of it carried an indescribable high, an addiction to growing and bettering LightningClan. The time had come. She'd finally be able to stop to smell the flowers. Bask in the warmth of the sun while she still had the moons left. And if StarClan willing watch her family grow.
Staring out to the expanse of LightningClan's territory she replayed the talk she had with Redscar and Kindleflare. How her mind was already made up. All she wanted was their blessing and their company as she walked to Moontree for the last time. She'd give back her lives in a matter of hours and return to LightningClan an elder. Finally, be granted peace.
She continued to sit out on the hill for hours to come. Watching the grass, the birds and even a few distant feline forms. Patrols that remarked borders or hunting parties on the prowl. She'd never stop surviving the Clan, even from the elder's den she'd do her part. Watch over the kits, tell them stories of their parent. Love them like her own.
A lump formed in her throat, realizing she'd be addressing her Clan for the last time. Deciding in that exact moment she wanted to be perfect, Firestar began a feverish grooming session stopping only when she felt her fur glossy. The pinnacle version of herself. It was then she headed back.
Striding proudly to the top of the hill, she sat before calling the Clan to gather. Like always she waited, watching as word spread of a meeting happening. Once she felt everyone had gathered she spoke, voice strained with emotions.
"I've called you all here this evening to announce I will be traveling to Moontree tonight to return my extra lives to StarClan and become Firesky once more," Murmurs broke out, cats calling out their questions, Firestar silenced them all with a sharp flick of her shortened tail.
"I have faith that Redscar will continue to lead LightningClan down the path of greatness as StarClan wills it so," She dipped her head, before jumping down from the hill. She had chosen cats as escorts without telling them her intention. Their expressed remained shocked but determined as ever to succeed. They'd leave soon, there being just enough time for cats to well-wish the departing cats if they felt it right to do so.

Owlmind LightningClan || 66 Moons || Senior Warrior/Queen It had been another day away from Lightningclan's Camp and the dark, warm nursery that kept the gray senior warrioress' three young kits safe. As they turned three moons, the queen had been less and less confined at camp, free to stretch her legs and resume patrols and hunting excursions. However, that didn't mean that she had passed off her duties completely.
There were a few cats who stayed with the three, young kits during the day if she was out and about helping the clan. Quailfoot, of course, the sire of the litter who was practically all about them, would watch them in the comfort of either the Nursery or the Elder's den, telling them stories from before they had been born. Cloudyfeather, the permanent queen of the clan, always enjoyed looking after kits and was thrilled whenever she was given the opportunity to play with the youngsters. And of course, the gray feline's more gentle sister.
Always observant, the sharp minded feline had noticed Firestar's wanderings today. Several times she caught the aging leader up on the hill outside camp, keeping her gaze steady as she watched over Lightningclan's moors like a calico statue. At first, she hadn't thought anything of it when she had left with a hunting patrol earlier within the day, however, upon returning from the patrol with a plump rabbit and two field mice, Owlmind noticed that Firestar still stood. Rooted in the spot like an ancient oak tree.
It had seemed that since the badger ambush, aided by Stoneclan, that Firestar's temperament seemed to even out. She seemed less hollow, less starved in recent moons and it was pleasing to see how healthy she was growing. Owlmind didn't miss the far away look in her gaze though, she was still haunted by the loss of Russetfall, though maybe coping with it better than she had been.
The lanky, gray she-cat hadn't been within the camp boundaries long before her leader made her way towards the center to call the clan together. The senior warrior brought over the rabbit she had caught earlier, offering it to Goldenkit, Goosekit and Greenkit after she relieved Cloudyfeather. She settled down on the ground, stretching slightly before taking a bite from the rabbit.
Flickering an ear, Owlmind didn't move much, but out of respect she pulled herself up to lower her haunches in a sitting position, rather than being sprawled across the comfortable ground. Her thin tail wrapped around her paws as an ear flickered to the side to listen to her kits while those wide, amber pools watched Firestar as she called for the clan to gather around.
Attention diverted slightly, Owlmind glanced down as Goldenkit propped herself up against her mother's leg. Her long, golden fur stood in different directions as if she had been playing with Greenkit or Goosekit recently, but her attention was trained on her leader, as much as a three moon old kit could anyways. Her siblings however, were attempting to play while also eat at the same time. Owlmind hushed their loud squabble with a quick, stern look from those amber eyes.
It wasn't a long meeting, nor what any cat was probably expecting, based on the shocked looks among her clanmates. Owlmind, however, sat with an unreadable expression upon her narrow face. While it seemed to be the trend for their leaders, as Redwind had stepped down to be a queen before Firestar, the gray feline didn't think it was a bad idea for her aging leader.
She could live out her days, resting within the elder's den. She'd still be around for those who needed her and she could enjoy the youth of the clan as they came to venture for stories of the old days. Owlmind was sure that her three, lively kits would enjoy sitting at the elder calico's paws with wide eyes and open ears.
And now, it was her brother's turn. Redscar would now step up, earn his nine lives and return to lead Lightningclan in his way, with his direction. The gray feline wondered who her ginger coated brother would choose as his deputy. Owlmind couldn't help the twinge within her chest, a small flurry of hope that it would be her chosen.
Which was an odd thing, as the queen had never wished to lead the clan before... and yet, all she had ever wanted was what was best for Lightningclan, what could aid them, make them stronger, have them rival the other clans who were known as powerhouses.
Was that not what a deputy and leader strive for?
Alas, it was something to worry about in a distant future, Firestar and Redscar still had to venture to Moon Tree tonight to exchange lives and names. An old era coming to an end, a new era coming to rise. And so, respectfully Owlmind gave a dip of her head one last time to Firestar, who would never be her leader again.
"Show respect to your leader." She whispered towards her three kits, who at this point, were all watching Firestar with wide, green pools. And as told, three little heads, tabby brown, gray and golden, all bowed.
Wisdom. Courage. Strategy.
